I remember “Alraid” resembling a small sprout planted by your brothers and sisters twenty years ago. This sprout has been nourished with the water of truth, sincerity, inspiration, hard work and self-sacrifice, persistence and endurance of your predecessors. I’m always happy to learn about your new achievements, to hear from the former kids from our circles and summer camps who have grown up and succeeded as personalities, activists, specialists and religious figures. The Lord says in the Qur’an: “…Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky. It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord.” Association “Alraid” is similar to such a tree, with its heavy foliage and countless fruit that are useful for the people by the will of God. That tree was planted twenty years ago, and today it continues growing and producing fruit. It’s not the years that evaluate the Organisation’s age, but rather its achievements, endurance and progress. I want to express my best gratitude and my highest appreciation for the current team of “Alraid”, and for all the Ukrainian Muslims! I pray that God grants you all good luck and success! How it all began

HOW IT ALL BEGAN “Alraid” went a long way from a small group of enthusiasts in 1997 to 20 organisations in many regions of Ukraine; from an interregional institution to All-Ukrainian Association. This level playing field, along with certain centra lization with each of the member-organisations’ preserved autonomy became the firm ground for effective coordination, and at the same time, for effective and independent grassroots decision-making. Many successfully implemented
project for the benefit of not only Ukrainian Muslims, but the Ukrainian society in general, depict this long, effective and fruitful cooperation. Implementing the elective principle of appoin ting management and monitoring institutions, both Head of the Association and members of the Executive Board are elected by secret ballot at General Assembly of the member-organisations.

GIVE WAY TO THE YOUTH! “Alraid” gives the young people every opportunity to take the initiative, and they eagerly do take it, generate new ideas and take part in educational events (seminars, conferences, trainings etc.)

The East Fest is of the most shining examples of such initiatives. Despite the fact it was launched only several years ago, it already became a sort of landmark for Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre, and visitors ask if the date of the next festival is known yet as soon as they enter the acting one. No wonder they want more, for East Fest has plenty of tasty dishes from all over the world, traditional crafts, clothes, jewelry and natural cosmetics, and one can taste, try and buy all that without leaving the Ukrainian capital. Not to mention the interesting quests, painting and photograph exhibitions, art-installations, cooking classes, children’s entertainment programme, and presents.

LEARN AND TEACH! Over the years, we not only participated in various educa tional events organized by leading experts in communications, media, social development. We also held our own various educational events for both Muslims and non-Muslims who want to learn about Islam, for the public consent benefits when people of different beliefs learn information about each other directly, not from the Media clichés that make impartial attitude almost impossible. We believe that dialogue is the best basis for peaceful and neighbourly co-existence; therefore we take part in various interfaith events. Our area of interest incдudes Islamic studies, intercultural and interfaith dialogue, cooperation for the sake of evolving Ukrainian society and State, themed events in the field of halal products and services, etc.

DEVELOPING ISLAMIC STUDIES IN UKRAINE “Scientists are the Prophet’s successors!” is the very saying of Prophet Muhammad that was chosen as a motto by the Ukrainian Centre of Islamic Studies when it was launching (in close cooperation with “Alraid”) the International Summer School for Islamic Studies. The School helps the young Ukrainian Islamic studies researchers evolve, and is aimed at forming a fully-featured and powerful scholarly tradition of Ukrainian Islamic Studies. “Alraid” is concerned about maintaining ties with scientific communities from Ukraine and abroad, so we hold various scientific events (including those of international format), like conferences, seminars, roundtables, Summer School of Islamic Studies, and eagerly accept invitations to participate in such events as guests.

THE FIRST HAFIDH OF UKRAINE For Muslims, learning and memorizing the Qur’an is not only the means of better understanding of our religion, but also one of the means of preserving the Holy Text (along with printing) and the recitation styles approved by the Prophet (peace and bles sings be upon him) himself.

PROMOTING SPORTS
Islam teaches us to take care of our bodies the God entrusted us, and care for both our spiritual and physical development. For that reason, Association “Alraid” fully cooperates in different sports events and competitions. Islamic Cultural Center’s teams play football, futsal and Ping-Pong, young people arrange picnics with sport games in the fresh air; the whole Muslim families take part in sports quests; Kyiv ICC has a women’s fitness centre that runs on a daily basis.

FAMILY VALUES 55 seminars and trainings 8 “family days” 100 family picnics in various regions of Ukraine Close-knit and happy family based upon the fear of God, mutual respect, care for each other and promoting personal growth of its each member is for sure the basis of the healthy and balanced society where everyone cares for developing the best qualities and ideas for the overall good. Absolute trust between the spouses, between parents and children is the cement that holds the family together. Many people can only dream of that, but it’s all in our hands! For that reason “Alraid” Islamic Cultural Centres place special emphasis on events aimed at strengthening families, harmonization of spousal relations and bringing up a happy, worthy and God-fearing offsprings. Besides, the Association organizes family picnics and quests where families team up against different game challenges and increasing their feeling of being a natural team.

www.halal.org.ua “Alraid” Halal Certification and Research Center started working over 10 years ago and already has two branches, one in the East and one in the West of the country. During that period, 120 Ukrainian companies have been certified. Our Center facilitated many Ukrainian producers in opening new markets of Muslim countries. “Alraid” Halal Certification and Research Center is the only Ukrainian halal certification institution whose
certificates are accepted by the Gulf countries as those fulfilling their strict specifications for quality and compliance with the rulings of Shariah. 75% of European consumers are eager to pay about 10% higher price than average for the products of better quality, which are justly the halal products. Besides, having Halal Certificate allows Ukrainian producers to open new markets in Muslim countries.

COOPERATION
Every “Alraid” member-organisation is always open for cooperation with organisations and private individuals with whom we share common goals. Of course, we also cooperate with the state and local authorities in the fields of culture, education, science and charity. We have a long and fruitful cooperation with Crimean Tatar Mejlis, and developed links with Crimean Tatar Community in Kyiv along with the Crimean Tatar
Centre of Culture and Crafts “Tamga”, Assosiation of Young Donors of Ukraine (Donor.UA Project), Centre for Interconfessional and Interreligious Dialogue “Libertas”, Ukrianian churches and religious organisations, Universities, schools, lyceums, libraries, etc. We also participate in other charitable and ecological initiatives, and are looking forward to meeting kindred spirits in order to implement our own projects of social importance.
