2022–23 YEAR IN REVIEW

OUR MISSION

Irvine Barclay Theatre is a leading presenter of performances by diverse and exceptional artists, providing a state-of-the-art venue for community cultural organizations and university programs, and broadening the scope, availability and appreciation of performing arts in Orange County.

Dear Friends,

When I reflect on this past year, I feel immense pride in the community we have created at Irvine Barclay Theatre. The confluence of greater performers and artists, public partners, and loyal members like you, all joined together to create what was truly another extraordinary season. This past year, among the busiest ever in the Barclay’s history, provided you and tens of thousands of others with unique performing arts experiences of spectacular popular entertainment, classical music, jazz, global music, dance programs, lectures, and more than 100 community events.

As planning was underway for the year just past, the Board of Directors and I committed to bringing to the Barclay bigger names and the most talented and inspiring artists working today. I am proud to say we accomplished that goal. The strength of your ticket purchases let us know you agreed — helping us to sell out performances by Alan Cumming, Midori, Wynton Marsalis, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and David Sedaris.

In addition to the strength of our programming, the Barclay’s relationships with our community partners also grew stronger this year. UCI, the City of Irvine, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, Festival Ballet Theatre, and others, continue to be willing and supportive partners helping us deliver on our mission to broaden the availability and appreciation for the performing arts in Orange County. We are grateful for their partnership and look forward to building a remarkable future.

These many successes are only possible because of your ticket purchases, your generous donations, and your belief in this theater. The “Year in Review” you hold in your hand illustrates the many ways in which you helped make this past season a remarkable one. I hope you enjoy these highlights, stories and images; they truly demonstrate the Barclay’s importance as an essential cultural asset for our community, and your role in making it all happen.

On behalf of the Barclay’s Board of Directors and staff, thank you, again, for supporting Irvine Barclay Theatre. We look forward to welcoming you soon, and often, to more wonderful events and performances this coming season.

The best is yet to come,

DONOR PROFILE MIHIR AND ANU WORAH

Dedicated to helping organizations that enrich the human experience through arts & culture

In the heart of Orange County, the Global View Series at Irvine Barclay Theatre presents a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultural traditions from around the world. Behind the scenes, the Worah Family Foundation, led by Mihir and Anu Worah, has been instrumental in bringing the series to life. Their dedication to the performing arts and commitment to fostering global cultural understanding has made an important and lasting impact on the community.

The Worahs are thoughtful philanthropists and passionate advocates for the performing arts. Drawing on their shared success in their professional lives, Mihir and Anu recognized the transformative power of live performance and the civic value of bringing to Orange County both traditional music from around the world and unique fusions of contemporary forms and styles.

The Worah Family Foundation's goal is the support of educational, artistic, and community initiatives that encourage inclusivity and foster mutual respect. By partnering with organizations such as the Barclay, the Worah Family Foundation plays a pivotal role in making cultural experiences accessible to the community.

The Global View Series presents artists from different corners of the world and promotes unique “only-atthe Barclay” programs. By promoting these cultural opportunities widely throughout Southern California, the series works to promote the value of cross-cultural experiences. Audiences are given four opportunities per year to gain a deeper appreciation for diverse traditions and develop broader social and cultural perspectives that encourage a sense of unity and empathy.

The Worah Family Foundation’s support of the Global View Series has allowed Irvine Barclay Theatre to expand its programming by attracting a wider range of the highest-level international performers than had previously been possible. The series has brought talented artists such as Zakir Hussain, Soweto Gospel Choir and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, among many others. The series continues in the coming season with Shakti, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Soledead Barrio & Noche Flamenca, Shrimati Kaushiki Chakraborty, Jayanthi Kumaresh and Pandit Abhijit Banerji.

“Orange County has become a melting pot of global cultures. Yet, we felt it needed a world class venue that consistently showcases the best international performing artists. We reached out to the Barclay and were thrilled with their immediate support of our vision. In its short existence, the Global View Series has featured brilliant artists and performances by Ustad Zakir Hussain, Soweto Gospel Choir, and others. In partnership with the Barclay, we look forward to establishing this venue, and our community, as a ‘must perform’ destination for international artists touring the U.S.”

– Mihir and Anu Worah

Mihir and Anu Worah have made an indelible mark on the performing arts in Orange County by inspiring audiences to embrace the transformational power of live performance. Their unwavering commitment to fostering broad understanding of the wide world of performing cultures through programmatic diversity has elevated the Barclay’s reputation and enriched the lives of its audiences. The Board of Directors and the staff of the Barclay are immensely proud to be their partners.
