AppShark’s MBS (Message Broadcast System) is a comprehensive message delivery system that can deliver attention-getting messages of different content and delivery types to various receiving devices. The messages can be broadcast with different attributes that control the delivery and presentation of a message. The receiving devices can be 1. Computers on a LAN 2. Computers on a WAN 3. How it works Recipient Management Recipients in MBS can be defined using Active Directory or an ODBC interface to a database that has a list of recipients with their group memberships. Recipients can manage messaging settings from their desktop. This includes language, profile and other settings

Messages will be published from the Messaging management console by choosing message type, content, recipients and delivery schedule.

Messages are delivered by “Push” methodololgy. With this approach the messages will be delivered from the server as needed, the clients do not poll the server.

Messages can be set to deliver immediately, or they can be delivered at a scheduled time.

Direct delivery is used for small Networks. In this method, all clients Are contacted by one server.

All desktops will run a MBS client application that listens to broadcasts from the broadcasting server(s). The MBS client uses the currently loggedin user’s credentials to register with the broadcasting server.

Architecture – Physical

Relay delivery is used in large networks So that network bandwidth can be optimized. Clients get messages from their designated relay server.

All messages are received and stored locally. When a message is received, based on the message attributes, the message will be presented to the user.

System Components Messaging Server

MBS Client

This is the heart of MBS. It provides a user interface to manage messages, message broadcasting and system administration.

The MBS client application runs on all desktops of the corporate network. The client receives all messages from the Server and displays them using the appropriate mechanism.

The messaging console is used to create and publish messages. Provides system administration tools that help monitor and maintain messaging activity, clients/hosts, relays and performance statistics.

Keeps a list of all active clients, their language preference and host name/ip address.

A rich dashboard provides all pertinent information about MBS.

Works on Windows Server 2003 and 2008. 32 and 64 bit versions.

Starts when user logs on, runs as a task tray application.

Provides an easy to navigate interface where the user can see their message list/history

Packages

Relay Server Relay Servers are used to deliver messages to various network segments in a network. They play a key role in network bandwidth optimization. l

Primarily recommended for WAN segments

l

Can be used to reduce broadcast traffic by designating Relay severs in different segments of a network and letting the relays broadcast messages within their network segments

l

Messaging Server will send one message to the Relay Server with complete details about the message and recipients; Relay will then broadcast the message to recipients within its subnet(s).

l

Relay server will handle all messaging and software update activity from clients within the Relay Server’s subnet.

l

Works on Windows Server 2003 and 2008. 32 and 64 bit versions.
