COUNSELOR EDUCATION
AREAS OF STUDY
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) track prepares students for Masters-level licensure as a mental health counselor. Students gain knowledge and skills to therapeutically address a wide variety of individual and relational concerns with adults, children, teens, couples, families, and groups following intensive practicum training and community-based internship experiences. Graduates are also eligible to pursue licensure as a clinical addictions counselor.
The School Counseling (SC) track prepares students to work as a school counselor with the professional knowledge and skills to promote academic, career, and personal/social development of K–12 students. Graduates are prepared to work as change agents in community schools through direct counseling with students, development of comprehensive school counseling programs, and advocacy for children and families.
The College Counseling and Student Affairs (CCSA) track prepares students to work as a student affairs professional in higher education settings, while also providing a path towards Masters-level licensure as a mental health counselor. Students gain knowledge and skills to therapeutically address a wide variety of individual and relational concerns as well as manage various university administrative duties. Graduates specialize in counseling with university students and are eligible to complete an on-campus internship
