Dear Valued Customers, Another year has come and gone, and after celebrating our 10th anniversary last year, our 11th product line offering for the 2016 sales season is looking like one of the best ever! You will continue to see favourites of the past such as NCS Reston RR2Y, NSC Tilston RR2Y, and of course NSC Richer RR2Y – the high yield champion. But brand new for 2016 is NSC Watson RR2Y. This variety truly offers a new standard for early maturity. It’s rated at 2225 CHUs, so growers in the northern parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba will confidently produce high quality soybeans year in and year out. This variety may even bring Alberta growers into the soybean growing family... We sure hope so! Although NSC Gladstone RR2Y was launched last year, we only had a limited amount of seed available. Based on its performance and feedback from growers, this is the new “GOTTA HAVE” variety. Its midseason maturity rating and the large branchy plant structure makes it suitable for most growers to put on a portion of their soybean acreage. It’s perfectly complimentary to either a longer season variety for growers in the southern areas, or a short season variety for guys in the west or north. So remember NSC Gladstone RR2Y, it’s the new GOTTA HAVE variety! All our varieties have been extensively tested again this year in many locations across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Please check our website: www.northstargenetics.com for all the yield and performance data. We have an aggressive print ad campaign planned that will prominently feature the characteristics of all our varieties as well as testimonials from growers who have grown the varieties and want to share their very positive experience. Soybeans have become a cool crop to grow in Western Canada, and we have never felt more confident about our soybean variety lineup. Further down the road, new traits will continue to add excitement to this cool crop. We thank you for choosing NorthStar Genetics soybeans last year and hope to earn your business again this year. Best wishes for a successful growing season. Sincerely,

Ray Wytinck General Manager NorthStar Genetics

Recommended Seeding Rates Air Seeder - 200,000 - 220,000 seeds/acre Row Planter - 170,000 - 190,000 seeds/acre **Note RR2 varieties are sold at 140,000 seeds per unit.

Factors to Consider When Choosing an Optimal Seeding Rate • Seed quality: best management practices should always be considered when handling soybean seed to avoid any undo damage, potentially resulting in the reduction of seed quality. • Field soil conditions at time of planting: wet lumpy conditions versus smooth, moist conditions; lumpy wet conditions require higher seeding rate. • Early planting versus late planting dates: 10% - 15% increase in seeding rates should be considered if planting dates become late. • Row crop versus solid seeding: row crop planters are more accurate in the placment of the seed and therefore require lower seeding rates. • Pod height to help harvest ease: higher seeding rates tend to increase pod height of some varieties.

Demonstration Plots NorthStar Genetics (NSG) is a leader in bringing new soybean varieties to Western Canada. Our portfolio is greater than any of our competitors’ and gives our customers the best options for their farm. Variety testing is very important to us which is why we have demonstration plots across the Prairie Provinces. We have three levels of variety testing: NSG Demonstration Plot Sites, Cooperator Plot Sites, and Field Scale Trials. Each of these levels showcase our varieties and help our customers make smart decisions for their business. 1. NSG Demonstration Plot Sites - This is where all of our varieties and competitor lines are planted in small-scale trials by our own staff with our own equipment. All plots are compared to a variety of factors but maturity and yield are the two most important characteristics. 2. Cooperator Plot Sites - These are locations where third-party research groups include NorthStar Genetics soybeans in their plots. Often, these groups are farmer sponsored to give producers the best, unbiased information possible, like the IHARF (Indian Head Agriculture Research Foundation) group based in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. 3. Field Scale Trials - In many instances, NSG will provide several units of seed to be planted in a side-by-side strip against other soybean varieties. Yield comparisons are often made by the use of combine yield monitors, but these trials give producers a good idea of how each variety grows and matures. We have made it easy to view the data from these plots on our website www.northstargenetics.com. There you will find an interactive map which shows you where our plots are and a database that shares the results. We want to make sure you are equipped to make the best decision possible about variety selection.
