Op verzoek van het ITFFU hebben enkele wielrenliefhebbers hun favoriete wielerfilms uitgekozen die ze samen met het publiek graag willen zien op het grote doek. Na afloop van de vertoningen lichten zij hun keuze toe. A number of cycling enthusiasts were asked by the ITFFU to pick their favourite bike-themed films, which they will then watch with the audience on the big screen. They will then talk about their choices after the screenings.

Ter gelegenheid van het Grand Départ en het Internationale Tour Film Festival Utrecht staat ook de quiz in het teken van fietsen. Welk team weet de pittige en ludieke trivia, ondersteund door muziek en fragmenten, het best te plaatsen? Doe mee, en maak kans op mooie prijzen en eeuwige roem. Vanaf 20.30 uur ben je welkom in de Foyer in het Louis Hartlooper Complex. Teams kunnen zich inschrijven met maximaal 6 personen per team. De getoonde werken zijn van de Utrechtse beeldend kunstenaar John Noy. Voor de Tourstart in Utrecht maakt hij een aantal schilderijen van ‘Oude Tourhelden’. Jacques Aquetil, Fausto Coppi en Eddy Merckx vormen een selectie van wielrenners uit het verleden. De tourhelden zullen ook te zien zijn in de tentoonstelling ‘Hotel Héroique’ die is samengesteld door Jeroen Wielaert. Van de Ronde van Kanaleneiland en de Ronde van Zuilen tot het bedrijventerrein in Overvecht dat tot in de jaren 90 werd gebruikt als trainingslocatie door Wielerclub De Volharding. Door de ogen van betrokkenen van toen en nu wordt belicht hoe het eraan toeging, wat het wielrennen voor de Utrechtse wijken betekende en hoe deze rijke historie doorwerkt in de huidige wielercultuur van Utrecht. A look at the history of cycle racing in various neighbourhoods in the city of Utrecht. From the ‘Ronde van Kanaleneiland’ and the ‘Ronde van Zuilen’ to the industrial estate in Overvecht where cycle racing club De Volharding trained until the 1990s. We see and hear from those involved, then and now, how things were and what cycle racing has meant to these Utrecht neighbourhoods, and how this rich history is reflected by current cycle culture in Utrecht.

Fietser, laat je horen! In 2015 is de fiets niet meer weg te denken uit de Nederlandse steden. Veertig jaar geleden was de auto de toekomst en werd de fiets beschouwd als een aflopende zaak. Op 18 oktober 1975 werd in RASA in Utrecht daarom de Eerste, Enige, Echte Wielrijders Bond (ENWB) opgericht. Inmiddels heet de ENWB de Fietsersbond en strijdt nog steeds voor de fiets. Reis door de tijd en bekijk in het Louis Hartlooper Complex een selectie van posters die aandacht vroegen voor de fiets. www.fietsersbond.nl Cyclists, be heard! Bikes are an omnipresent fixture of Dutch cities today. Forty years ago, however, cars were the future and many thought the bicycle was on its way out. Tati speelt zelf de hoofdrol in deze korte film over een Franse postbode die wil bewijzen dat hij even snel is als de Amerikaanse postdiensten. This short comedy by Jacques Tati is the precursor to Jour de Fête, the French classic he made in 1949. Tati himself plays the lead role in this short film about a French postman who wants to prove that he can be just as fast as the American postal service. Ce court-métrage constitue une sorte d’ébauche du long métrage Jour de Fête réalisé l’année suivante. Deze korte documentaire is geïnspireerd op Tim Krabbé’s deelname aan de Ronde van Vlaanderen in 2014 op 71-jarige leeftijd. Zijn eerste en zijn vroege en late wielerleven worden met elkaar verweven. Intimate portrait of Tim Krabbé, cyclist and author of the cult book ‘De Renner’ (‘The Cycle Racer’). This short documentary was inspired by Tim Krabbé’s participation in the Tour of Flanders in 2014 at the age of 71. The film interweaves his first, early and later life on two wheels.

Voor het indrukwekkende animatieproject Places and Monuments reist Pierre Hébert de hele wereld af voor de verkenning van alledaagse voorvallen, anonieme menigten en monumenten. Speciaal voor Utrecht maakte hij op uitnodiging van het Holland Animation Film Festival een installatie in het kader van het vertrek van de befaamde Tour de France in Utrecht van 1 t/m 5 juli 2015, met het parcours en het decor in de hoofdrol en het contrast tussen professioneel wielrennen en het alledaagse gebruik van fietsen in een combinatie van live action en animatie. www.haff.nl For the impressive animation project Places and Monuments, Pierre Hébert travelled all over the world to explore everyday events, anonymous masses and monuments. Purpose-made for Utrecht at the invitation of the Holland Animation Film Festival, he created an installation celebrating the start of the famous Tour de France in Utrecht from 1 to 5 July 2015, with the track and its setting in the leading role in a combination of live action and animation. De Tour de France heeft altijd grote aantrekkingskracht gehad op filmsterren. Acteurs als Jean-Paul Belmondo en Alain Delon kwamen graag naar de ronde om zich met de coureurs te laten fotograferen. Orson Welles heeft in 1950 zelfs de startvlag geheven. Ver voordat er in Cannes een filmfestival was eindigden er al Touretappes. Toen waren er ook al speelfilms gemaakt met de Tour als onderwerp. Maurice Champreux draaide in 1925 Le Roi de la Pédale, film nog zonder geluid. In 1938 jaar later maakte Jean Stelli de geluidsfilm Pour le Maillot Jaune, met Albert Préjean en Meg Lemonnier. Deze film werd deels op locatie gedraaid tijdens de Tour. Later werd de ronde onderwerp van grote documentairemakers als Louis Malle (Vive le Tour, 1962) en Claude Lelouch (Pour un Maillot Jaune, 1965). Het werd dus na het IDFA hoog tijd voor het ITFFU: International Tour Film Festival Utrecht.
The Tour de France has always been a source of a great fascination for film stars. Actors such as Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon loved to visit the Tour and have their picture taken with the riders. In 1950, Orson Welles even waved the flag at the start. Way before there was a film festival in Cannes, this was often the finishing line for stages of the Tour, and then there are the many films made about this most famous of races. In 1925, Maurice Champreux made the silent film ‘Le Roi de la Pédale’. In 1938, Jean Stelli made the talkie ‘Pour le Maillot Jaune’, with Albert Préjean and Meg Lemonnier – a film shot partly on location during the Tour. Later, the Tour also attracted great documentary makers such as Louis Malle (‘Vive le Tour’, 1962) and Claude Lelouch (‘Pour un Maillot Jaune’, 1965).

Een hartverwarmende komedie over het elfjarig wielertalentje Freddy, zoon van een slager. Het Utrechtse filmtheater Louis Hartlooper Complex organiseert het eenmalig, samen met Le Tour Utrecht. De filmselectie bestaat uit meer dan 30 (inter)nationale documentaires, speelfilms, korte films en als afsluiter een gratis openluchtvoorstelling. Een aantal films beleven hun (Nederlandse) première. Het Louis Hartlooper Complex wordt het warme festivalhart met exposities, live muziek en de beroemde LHC-filmquiz. Tijdens de talkshow schuiven filmmakers, journalisten en renners bij Jeroen Wielaert aan tafel, waaronder Dirk Jan Roeleven, Ad van Liempt en Bert ‘Ventoux’ Wagendorp.
Utrecht cinema centre the Louis Hartlooper Complex is organising this one-off festival in cooperation with Le Tour Utrecht. The film programme consists of more than 30 documentaries, feature films and short films from the Netherlands and abroad and, as the finishing touch, a free open-air screening. A number of the films will be (Dutch) premières. The Louis Hartlooper Complex will be the beating heart of the festival with exhibitions, live music and the famous LHC film quiz. During the festival talkshow filmmakers, journalists and riders including Dirk Jan Roeleven, Ad van Liempt and Bert ‘Ventoux’ Wagendorp will join the host, journalist and author Jeroen Wielaert.

De zoons van filmpionier Willy Mullens, Albert en Wiebe, volgden in 1953 drie weken lang de Nederlandse wielrenners van de Tour de France. Het werden wonderlijke weken, want de Tour-leiding werkte tegen, zodat veel opnames in het geheim werden geschoten. Op verbazingwekkende wijze laat de film deze Tour, verreweg de succesvolste voor Nederland tot dan toe, herleven. Deze eerbetoon aan de unieke wielergeneratie van de jaren 50 is de openingsfilm ITFFU. A forgotten film about the 1953 Tour was found in the archives of EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam. EYE, TV programme Andere Tijden Sport, cycling blog Hetiskoers and the Louis Hartlooper Complex joined forces to get this film out of the can and onto the screen. In 1953 Albert and Wiebe, the sons of film pioneer Willy Mullens, spent three weeks following the Dutch participants in the Tour de France. It is 1998 and the cycle racing world has been rocked by doping scandals. One tier down from the top, team leader Paul ‘Zotte Polle’ De Baeremaeker does what he has always done: he leads a team on the smaller Flemish cycle racing circuit. Once, these ‘fairground races’ were an integral part of Flanders, a source of entertainment for the ordinary man in the street.
