Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States and Frenchman Alexis Pinturault were awarded the “Longines Rising Ski Stars” prize at the 2012/13 Alpine Skiing Finals in Lenzerheide (SUI). Both were handed a trophy and a Longines watch, along with a cheque for CHF 20,000.
Mikaela Shiffrin aus den Vereinigten Staaten und der Franzose Alexis Pinturault wurden beim Finale des FIS Alpinen Ski Weltcups in Lenzerheide (SUI) 2012/2013 mit dem Award “Longines Rising Ski Stars” ausgezeichnet. Beiden wurde eine Trophäe und eine Longines Uhr sowie ein Scheck über CHF 20.000 überreicht.
With six podium finishes, of which three were victories, as well as a slalom gold medal from the World Championships, 18-yearold Shiffrin has had an outstanding season. The same can be said of Pinturault, who clinched three victories and seven podiums to become the best young male skier at only 22 years of age.
Die 18-jährige Shiffrin blickt mit insgesamt sechs Podiumsplätzen - davon drei Siegen - sowie einer Goldmedaille im Slalom bei der Weltmeisterschaft auf eine herausragende Saison zurück. Das Gleiche gilt auch für Pinturault, der drei Siege und sieben Podiumsplätze unter Dach und Fach brachte und dadurch mit nur 22 Jahren der beste junge männliche Skifahrer ist.
“It’s very exciting for me, especially as one of my goals was to be the youngest to win World Cups and to leave a mark as a young athlete,” said Shiffrin. “It’s exciting that there is an award dedicated to young athletes and their success.” Pinturault added: “It’s a great idea to reward young racers. It’s motivational and gives them something to shoot for.” Longines President Walter von Känel commented: “A hundred years ago, in 1933 in Chamonix, Longines started its association with ski competitions.
