Introduction The IB professional development we offer you contributes not only to helping schools and educators implement the IB programmes and pedagogy but also the IB mission statement. The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. (…) Professional development opportunities include: • Face to face regional workshops • On-line workshops • In-school workshops for PYP and MYP We strongly encourage you to read the sections of this programme which relate to the workshop architecture: target audiences, goals and objectives of each category.

The workshops you will find in this programme may be subject to some minor changes – please always refer to the online IB Professional Development calendar for the latest information (www.ibo.org/events). Please note that all workshops are in English, unless otherwise indicated. All participants must be sufficiently fluent in the language in which the workshop is offered to allow for full and unaided participation. Please refer to our website and pages 4-5 of this document for more information on workshops in languages other than English. Prices in 2011-2012 on IB-run workshops remain the same as the past 2 academic years. Additionally, ‘early bird’ fees for those registering five months prior the event start date still apply.

These will help you to find the most appropriate workshop for your needs. NEW!

Diploma Programme workshops What is…? A ‘Generic language’ workshop A workshop designated as ‘Generic’ is the means by which the IB supports professional development for languages in the DP where a language specific workshop is not available. The format will typically have a common core for content and materials, supplemented by language specific materials related to the languages taught by the participants. The workshop will be presented most commonly in English.

A ‘Subject Specific Seminar’ (SSS) This is a Category 3 workshop to officially address changes to the Diploma Programme curriculum in the diploma review cycle. New subject guides are published at the beginning of a given calendar year. Subject Specific Seminars will be offered at face-to-face events within the first 3

months of that year. Any workshops which follow the Subject Specific Seminar (online and face-to-face) will work to the new subject guide; any workshops which precede the Subject Specific Seminar (online and face-to-face) will work to the existing guide. In 2012, do not miss the Group 5 SSS!

A ‘New Subject Seminar’ (NSS) This is a Category 1 workshop to officially present a new subject guide in the region. New subject guides are published at the beginning of a given calendar year; NSS workshops will follow publication of these guides. In 2012 do not miss the Sport Exercise and Health Science NSS! For more on DP workshop descriptors, please visit: http://www.ibo.org/ibaem/workshops/ documents/20100805promotionmaterialsforDPc at1andcat2Sept2010.pdf

Registration information for events run by IB Africa, Europe, Middle East Regional office How to register The IB online registration system is available: • via IBIS, the IB Information System (https://ibis.ibo.org). • by following the links available on the IB Professional Development calendar (www.ibo.org/events). N.B.: IBIS login details are required in all cases and for all schools. If you do not have an IBIS account, please contact our office (ibaem@ibo.org).

Payment Payment should be made upon receipt of the registration acknowledgment e-mail issued automatically once the registration has been completed via our on-line registration system. In the event that the IB has to cancel a workshop, the total amount of the registration fee will be refunded or a credit note will be issued. More detailed information on how to make payments is posted on the IB website (www.ibo.org/ibaem/workshops/eventdocs/ registrationandpaymentinformation.cfm).

Confirmation of registration The IB coordinator and individual participants will first receive an automatic acknowledgment of registration, followed by a formal confirmation of participation once payment has been received and the required minimum number of participants have registered. The automatic acknowledgment message does not mean that the workshop has been confirmed.

IB Africa, Europe, Middle East reserves the right to cancel workshops that do not receive sufficient enrolment. All registrations are subject to space availability and are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Registrations received after the workshop registration deadline are not guaranteed placement. Please do not purchase non-refundable airline tickets until you have received the formal confirmation of registration.

Changes to registrations of confirmed participants • A confirmed participant who is unable to attend may be replaced in the workshop concerned by another teacher from the same school, provided the replacement has the required academic criteria for that workshop. • Registration cannot be transferred from one subject workshop to another without written confirmation from the IB Africa, Europe, Middle East professional development team. In cases where such confirmation has not been given, the registration will be cancelled and the IB cancellation policy will apply. • No requests for changes of subject workshops will be accepted on site.

Prices in 2011-2012 on IB-run workshops remain the same as the past 2 academic years. Additionally, ‘early bird’ fees for those registering five months prior the event start date still apply. Any registrations or changes of registration made past the registration deadline (i.e. 6 weeks prior event start date for all events) will incur an extra charge of USD 100.00 (GBP 59.00, CHF 105.00).

Other workshop providers For workshops run by Professional Development Providers other than IB Africa, Europe, Middle East office, registrations are made directly with the Professional Development Providers concerned and registration is via their website (see Pages 4-5) and are subject to the conditions they apply. Cancellations/transfers are independent to IB-run workshops.

Cancellation policy Any cancellation made 22 days or more prior to the first day of the workshop will be refunded by a credit note for the full amount of the registration fee. For cancellations made 21 days or less prior to the first day of the workshop, a penalty of 100% of the fee will apply. In the event that the IB has to cancel a workshop, the total amount of the registration fee will be refunded or will incur a credit note. Unconfirmed registrations will not be billed or will be refunded by a credit note if the payment has been made. Cancellation policy will apply also in cases where a visa is refused.

Travel and visas Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the event. If required, a visa support letter can be downloaded from the online registration system after the participant has been confirmed.
