what isEnlightenment? with Linda Clair Q: Why do you say that we need to work to become enlightened? You also say that the separate individual is an illusion – it doesn’t exist. So isn’t any work done by this illusory individual also illusory? What can be the point of it? Linda: You still believe you are a separate individual until you prove that it’s an illusion. That’s what you have to do – prove to yourself that this belief in a separate individual is not the Truth – and you have to work to do this. It has taken a lot of time and effort to create this individual, so it takes a lot of time and effort, which is almost like rewinding the clock, to become free of the illusion. I say that the separate self is an illusion because that is what I have realised. That’s what the Truth is. This idea of separateness is what causes all our suffering. We think we are all special, separate individuals. We are all unique in a way, but deep down, we are all the same. Everyone and everything is the same. It’s just energy. That’s what you realise – it’s just this intense life energy. The individual, which is really the mind, does not want to be free of itself, because enlightenment means the subjugation of the mind, so it is not the mind that is doing the work. It’s something else – it’s love of something other than yourself. It’s pure consciousness that is working towards it, but it’s not working towards enlightenment, it’s working

at being free of what you know is not real, which is the separate individual. You need to keep putting in effort to centre yourself, using your body to prove to yourself that you are actually here, and then the mind gradually weakens. But it takes a lot of effort to keep holding your ground – to stay here, rather than wishing you were somewhere else, or thinking about what you did yesterday, or ten years ago. You need to become as grounded in your body as you possibly can. This illusory individual is made up of the past – thoughts and emotions (which are really just strong thoughts). That’s what it is; it’s not real, not substantial. Even when you are feeling sublimely still, you need to let go of this. You need to keep going more and more deeply, seeing that it never ends, because Now is not a finite thing. It’s timeless. You never get to the bottom of Now. It’s infinity. Even though you might get to a point that people call enlightenment, where you become Now, even then you see that you can go more deeply into it. The depth is endless. But after the point of enlightenment there’s no fear of going more deeply, and there is also no desire to go deeper. It becomes the natural state. But before that point you need to make an incredible amount of effort to keep staying here. It takes a lot of effort and energy just to be here. Now is a very energetic state. Stillness is very, very fast. The separate individual or ego has no interest whatsoever in you

being here now. It feeds on time, so it has no interest in you becoming timeless. When there is no ego, there is only action. There is no delay involved in action – no time. When there are no thoughts, there is no ego, there is no acting any more, there’s just action. You become action. There is no-one there to think about what you’re doing. Everything that needs to happen happens. But in a way nothing is happening. In the deepest sense there is just Now.

www.innerself.com.au awakening. It’s completely different when you know it’s permanent. With an awakening, deep down there’s a sense that it might not last, and with that comes a subtle grabbing - a subtle wanting of it. With enlightenment, that’s not there, so in a way you don’t even realize it, because there’s nothing there to realize. You become the realization. There’s nothing to compare it with. Everything is obvious. All the longing, the desire, the wanting, just dissolves,

and it’s gone. All that’s left is this profound peace. When I had the awakening, it was really good being with my teacher because he said, ‘Enjoy it’, and he acknowledge what was happening, but he told me not to dwell on it too much - to enjoy it but let it go. It’s a very difficult thing when you have an awakening, because the tendency is to not let it go. You want to keep it. It’s such an amazing relief. But enlightenment is a complete letting go. There’s

no desire to hang on to anything because you realize that there’s nothing to hang on to. It’s almost like there’s no enlightenment - it doesn’t exist. Nothing exists, it’s just what’s happening. Quite an amazing thing. Q: So what is really the essential difference between awakening and enlightenment? You said that you had an awakening in 1997, then you became enlightened in 2005. In your experience, what is the difference, and why did it take you so long - another seven or eight years - to say that you were enlightened, after you had a profound awakening? Linda: With the profound awakening, there was something in me that just knew that it wasn’t completely permanent. There was a profound realization that this was possible in me, and I feel that’s really what an awakening is - the realization that enlightenment is possible. It was a huge release, but I knew that I couldn’t grab onto it and dwell on it too much, because there was still a lot of work to be done. I knew I wasn’t completely pure. It was amazing, but when the real thing happened, I knew that it was permanent. Again, I just knew. There was no question about it. There were no more questions at all. I didn’t need anyone to verify it. I knew that I was just here, and it was here to stay. It was completely different to the

SIMPLY BEING HERE It is a great pleasure to make a connection with you through this column. I have been on the spiritual and psychological path for many years, really about 45 years, so I hope that I can share some of the things I’ve discovered. My own path has been quite straightforward at times, but also quite confusing at other times in my life. I’m sure that together we can share our wisdom and refine our abilities to really gain the fulfillment we all seek in life. Everyone is on a path of some sor t. We are all directed by a set of values and behaviours that are meant to lead towards contentment and fulfillment, no matter how that is conceived. For some people this is a materialist path. On this path we operate with the basic belief that fulfillment is achieved through creating the right physical circumstances in which to live. We put our efforts into building a well-paying career, creating a comfor table living space, finding ideal vacation destinations, etc. For some people nearly all of their energy goes into seeking security at a material level. I would say that up to point, nearly everyone is on a materialistic path. As a reader of InnerSelf you’re also on a psychological and spiritual path. You’ve realized how the functioning of the mind has a major role in our wellbeing. You see the connection between what you think and believe, and how you feel from day to day. You’re path includes working at the “inner level.” You have different ways of getting inside yourself and working directly with your mind and emotions using any of a variety methods that might include, changing how you think about things, using your imagination, your intention, your attention and awareness. Maybe you’re following a specific path of self-development as part of a training or community. Or, perhaps you’re creating your own path from the incredible range of resources that are available to us these days. As a reader of InnerSelf it’s quite likely that your path includes a dimension that goes beyond the thinking mind, that goes beyond the reality of your own personal self. If you meditate or practice a form like Tai Chi this is certainly the case. You’re seeking to be connected with a source of be-

ing, love or wisdom that’s more vast than who we are individually. But, no matter what path we’re on, we need to admit that, up to this point, we’re all unsuccessful in our endeavour. I can’t see how we would keep looking in the pages of a book, a magazine, attending a workshop, or searching for a teacher on YouTube if we were truly, totally and fundamentally content now and into the future. For sure we break through from time to time into a space where things are complete and perfect as they are, but even these experiences are usually very conditioned. Just one element needs to change, someone comes into, or goes out of, the picture, and something is missing, again. And back we are, searching to be complete. What we really all want is to arrive at the end of the path, and stay there May be we’d like to go back from time to time for some adventure, but even then, our ideal is to be able to return to some ultimate state, whenever we’d like to. Most people think that the way to arrive at the end of their path is to follow it until the end; to keep working at the practices and implementing the values and principles that define the path. But there is another way entirely to complete the path. And that is by dissolving the whole idea of “being on a path” and arriving at some destination, itself. How do we dissolve the path? Just by being here, in the moment. Nothing could be easier. In fact, for as long as we think that we are “on the path” we can’t complete it. The only way to complete the path is by “being here.” This moment offers us the opportunity to need nothing more than what is here for us in this instance. If we connect with this instant, we don’t need anything more. We don’t need another teaching, we don’t need to find the meaning of life, we don’t need more money, a different figure, better health, or some guarantee of our future happiness, not in this instant. In this moment we don’t actually have time to use any of these things. You might think? Okay, that’s nice, but I can’t be here—in the moment—permanently. I do have to take care of my health, my family and my investments! Being here doesn’t in anyway dis-

connect us from the realities at hand. We can check this out right now. Being here means being where WE are right now. In one way this is another reality. It’s different because we can’t say what it is. But equally, we’re fully connected our embodied existence. I am here, in my office, writing this, and fully aware of what’s going on around me. And you are reading this, aware of this word, and the context in which this is happening for you. Being here, means that we are drinking the ineffable and fully alive to our senses, and feelings and thoughts at the same time. It is a joy to meet you “here” and I look forward to sharing with you in future issues as we play in the space of being complete, no matter where we are. Mindful Eating

by Thich Nhat Hanh

Mindful eating is very pleasant. We sit beautifully. We are aware of the people that are sitting around us. We are aware of the food on our plates. This is a deep practice. Each morsel of food is an ambassador from the cosmos. When we pick up a piece of a vegetable, we look at it for half a second. We look mindfully to really recognize the piece of food, the piece of carrot or string bean. We should know that this is a piece of carrot or a string bean. We identify it with our mindfulness: "I know this is a piece of carrot. This is a piece of string bean." It only takes a fraction of a second. When we are mindful, we recognize what we are picking up. When we put it into our mouth, we know what we are putting into our mouth. When we chew it, we know what we are chewing. It's very simple. Some of us, while looking at a piece of carrot, can see the whole cosmos in it, can see the sunshine in it, can see the earth in it. It has come from the whole cosmos for our nourishment. You may like to smile to it before you put it in your mouth. When you chew it, you are aware that you are chewing a piece of carrot. Don't put anything else into your mouth, like your projects, your worries, your fear, just put the carrot in. And when you chew, chew only the carrot, not your projects or your ideas. You are capable of living in the present moment, in the here and the now. It is simple, but you need some training to just enjoy the piece of carrot. This is a miracle. I often teach "orange meditation" to my students. We spend time sitting together, each enjoying an orange. Placing the orange on the palm of our hand, we look at it while breathing in and out, so that the orange becomes a reality. If we are not here, totally present, the orange isn't here either. There are some people who eat an orange but don't really eat it. They eat their sorrow, fear, anger, past, and future. They are not really present, with body and mind united. When you practice mindful breathing, you become truly present. If you are here, life is also here. The orange is the ambassador of life. When you look at the orange, you discover that it is nothing less than a miracle. Visualize the orange as a blossom, the sunshine and rain passing through it, then the tiny green fruit growing, turning yellow, becoming orange, the acid becoming sugar. The orange tree took time to create this masterpiece. When you are truly here, contemplating the orange, breathing and smiling, the orange becomes a miracle. It is enough to bring you a lot of happiness. You peel the orange, smell it, take a section, and put it in your mouth mindfully, fully aware of the juice on your tongue. This is eat-

An Interview with “Sailor” Bob Adamson By Leo Drioli & Enza Vita

Nature – a Place of Awakening

by Isira

At the heart of all life, deep in the natural order of our world, is an inherent power and presence. It is unquestionable. Where life abides in its most natural state, there is a flow, a pervading stillness and ceaseless vitality. This is why I speak often of the human need to be connected with nature. Not only is it essential to us – for it is the very source of our life – but it connects us at a very deep level to our true Self. A simple example of this is when we take a few quiet moments to sit still and observe a lake. Very soon a feeling of peace and calm arises within us. Walk among forests and a sense of vibrancy, freshness and power ensues. Sit on a rock by the sea for a while and the idea of time begins to vanish. Deeper than this is the capacity for nature to re-awaken us and to sustain us with wakeful awareness. In being present to nature we can see the true essence of life and, therefore, the essence of our very selves. Take the encounter of watching the lake. We become aware that the lake is constantly moving; water is rippling and forever stirring, even when it is most calm. Yet also when the water is most stirred, simultaneously, there is a profound presence of stillness, as if the lake is suspended in the timelessness of now, and only now. How does this help us? In seeing the constant movement we are reminded that life IS constantly flowing, changing, moving, passing, transforming. Nothing is fixed. This movement and flow becomes a mirror for our very own lives. Is there anything in our own lives that is not changing, passing, flowing, transforming? When we truly watch we realise that indeed, no event, no situation, no THING in our life is fixed. Only in the illusion of our mind do we have the erroneous belief that somehow we are stuck or trapped. In reality everything passes. Everything changes. Yet we are not gone. Our Self does not vanish. And, in the place of those things that have passed, new things are born. New experiences unfold. Our lives, and all of life, is like a river – a “rivering” – a never-ending flow of creation. Consequently, it is pointless to hold on to anything, to fear letting go, or to perceive any lack or loss. Life (our very self) is forever freeing and forever renewing – in fact it is forever being! So when we are deeply present to nature – to the true nature of our selves – we enter a state of true openness whereby we have surrendered to what IS. We become accepting of life’s constant flow. Our resistance falls away and WE fall into the stillness – the suspended, timeless space in which this flowing is happening – we are forever present in the now.

In this stillness we realise we are far greater, and so much more, than a body, or a lifetime of events. We are eternal. We are the infinite, unified field of energy that is life. We are forever being. When we enter this depth of realisation, all attachments drop away. Fear dissolves. The mind’s projections vanish. What is left is the very essence of our selves – aliveness... awareness. As a child I was acutely aware that we live our lives in boxes. These boxes that we occupy and the boxes that we work in are like tombs. They are places of death, where our life force can easily slip away. In these boxes people lose touch with nature, and therefore lose sight of the true nature of life and of Self. With that loss comes a decline of vitality. We get lost in the mind and submit to the drive of the ego and the attachment to things. We merely exist, living a superficial life in an unsettled state – chasing elusive peace, happiness or fulfilment. Now, as an adult, I continue to witness humanity’s growing dissociation with nature. Along with this rift is a deepening fear and attachment to the illusions of the mind. Collectively we are responsible for great destruction of our natural world. Individually we are responsible, and capable, of regaining the connection we need with nature– not just for the sake of the planet or future of humanity – but for the sake of being truly at peace, within our self and with each other. When we value life more than we value things we will begin to create a collective shift towards a more natural world again. When we value nature we value life. We also realise the value of the Self we are and the gift it is to experience life in this form. Nature is here for us - available to us in every moment - if only we take a few moments to step outside our boxes and dance again! Nature is calling us, waiting to teach us silently and deeply all that we need to know; to join in the rivering of life again, to awaken and enter nature’s heart of peace. Isira is a presence of unconditional love and compassion - a power that inspires, uplifts and changes lives. As a self-realised master of enlightenment, she is here to help us all to awaken to create a world of love, peace and well-being. Through her consultations, programs and books including “A Journey of Awakening” Isira answers our questions and supports us in our own awakening. www.isira.com

Sailor Bob Adamson We’d been hearing about this interesting sounding spiritual teacher who had actually spent time in India, first with Muktananda and then with Nisargadatta Maharaj, the renowned voice of Advaita or non-duality, author of “I AM That”. “Sailor” Bob Adamson, had found the peace he was seeking in the presence of Nisargadatta Maharaj and was now a teacher and author in his own right. Bob lives in Melbourne and has held weekly talks for visitors from all over the world for over 30 years. Many come to his home or call him to discover the same Presence Awareness of which he speaks. In October 2005, we visited Sailor Bob Adamson, attending one of his small gatherings in a tiny lounge room in his home in Melbourne. Little did we know what a turning point moment this would be for the both of us. The evening was stimulating and insightful, yet strangely ordinary and very natural with Bob bringing the discussion back to the clarity of the nondual perspective each time someone veered off into the mind a little too far. It was fascinating to watch this man at play, serenely and very matter-offactly casually pointing back to Truth, to That, to What Is … with every word he spoke. The next day we met again and while I was preparing some questions for the interview, the tape recorder was turned on and captured a spontaneous dialogue between Bob and Enza. When I transcribed it, I felt that this is where the interview should begin. It has taken us nearly seven years to finally get around transcribing this interview and as always, this is the perfect moment. Enza: Even though everything is an illusion, not the real thing, yet in this illusion, there are little ways that point to the Truth. All my life I’ve been going through periods of seeking and not seeking and intuitively feeling that, there was nothing that I could really do, that I just had to wait, which is also an illusion... this waiting. Then 6 months ago, in a dream, one of my spiritual teachers came and told me “Enlightenment has already happened.” And then he showed me in an instant, a seed, a map, and that map or plan is now unfolding ... in spite of me. (Laughter)

Sailor Bob: (Laughter) You’ve got to understand that appearance as it’s appearing is It also, appearing as That. It’s all That... as soon as we see that there’s no separate entity here, then it becomes all inclusive... like the old Zen saying “Before enlightenment cutting wood, carrying water... after enlightenment, cutting wood, carrying water.” The same things are happening, but where before it was a chore, and poor “me” had to do it, now it’s happening, just unfolding of Itself. Enza: Yes, totally of Itself. And I know, deep down, that it has nothing to do with me, with this “me” I think I am... (Laughter) Sailor Bob: There’s no-one to do it, but the doing happens. Enza: There is this sense of being taken somewhere, and I have no idea where I’m going. (Laughter). But it doesn’t matter… It doesn’t matter. Sailor Bob: You realise that you’re in safe hands. There’s one part of the marvel in that, “I can have it”... and underneath it, is the everloving arms. You can’t fall out of It, you’re guided wherever you go. It’s not even that you are guided, there’s no “you”. The universe is just functioning, just the way it should in every aspect. You are that essence, you’re not a particular thing, you are that total essence. Where are you ?... you’re everywhere. When you say that in the dream, there was a map planned out... Well, that is omnipresence. It’s always here, the whole lot of It. Ramesh Balsekar (also a past disciple of Nisargadatta, and non-duality teacher) puts it nicely. He says that you’ve got a big dark room, with a long plain wall and on that wall’s a big mural, your whole life. And you come in with a torch and shine it on one aspect, and you’re only seeing that aspect at the moment but the whole journey is already there, if you can see the lot. But we can’t see the lot, until we are ready to see it. Then It’s already here. Enza: I’m in this sense of wonderment about how it’s spontaneously unfolding and it’s like “Wow, how’s it going to happen?” But I have this deep trust that all is unfolding as it should be. “Oh OK, let me wait and see.” I don’t know anything but still that map… that seed is growing in ways that I hadn’t ever imagined. All of it, it seems, is contained in that seed. Sailor Bob: It’s like watching some series on TV, you enjoyed last night’s episode, you’re waiting to get to the next night, to get to the next bit. But all of it has already happened.

At this point, I join the conversation and ask my first question. Leo: I’m wondering if you could, for the benefit of our readers, give us a quick overview of your teaching?

Sailor Bob: Basically it’s a pointing back to what’s has been passed down through the ages. All the different religions and traditions point to It, the non-duality of it all. There’s one basic essence, it’s all functioning “in” and “as” That. And That’s pointed at, when they put a name on it like God or Spirit or something like that, which we can get confused about because of all the different concepts about it. But basically what is told in every tradition, is That is omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience - total Presence, total Power and total Intelligence, – not intellect, Intelligence. And everything is That. We have the idea that we’re all separate entities and individuals, and that sense of separation without questioning it has been the cause of all our problems. It’s a matter of simply having a look and seeing that there is nothing here with any independent nature at all. And you can break everything down into that one essence. So in coming to that understanding or seeing that clearly, you know that this essence is expressing through as that pattern, and that pattern and that pattern, which is all you. And it takes a lot of hassle out of the belief in an entity which is fearful and anxious, which has all these psychological problems because it believes it’s running the show. It takes all that away, and leaves everything to unfold naturally. That’s why we call it the Natural State - similar to nature. Nothing in nature is running the show, there’s no-one out there like a puppeteer pulling the strings... the whole lot is infused with that pure Intelligence. If you break a peacock egg open for instance, the yolk and white looks the same as any other egg. But the amazing colours of the peacock feathers develops from that egg. Like the sperm and ovum coming together in our case... the sperm and ovum are nothing at that stage, it’s just slime. And that can develop into a human being with all the different degrees of intellect and talents... and again this amazing and wonderful Intelligence/Energy suffuses it all. And that is what you are really, that essence. Leo: I remember many years ago something that always comes back to me: Rumi said: “What we’re looking for, is what is looking.” And you say it in your own way with “You already are That.” Can you talk about this that is looking, this that we already are? Sailor Bob: (laughter) It is no thing, to the mind. It’s no thing that the mind will ever grasp. And that becomes a problem. You look for something - “some thing”. The mind which is a thing itself, it’s trying to grasp no thing. But a thing cannot ever understand or conceptualize or grasp no thing. When there’s no thought here, even if it’s for a brief instant, if you pause your thought anytime and look, you realise that even without thought, the seeing is still happening, the hear-

ing’s still happening, the functioning is still going on. You’re still breathing, your heart’s still beating. It gives you a taste of that pure Intelligence that’s prior to the mind. And that pure Intelligence, patterns, shapes and forms into everything. Leo: We’ve been both journeying for many years and for me, there has been this constant yearning, or desire for Truth or for God, however you want to put it. Does this yearning for God have a place in our journey? And what is it? Sailor Bob: In what we call the Natural State is That which is beating your hear t, growing your hair and your fingernails. And That is constantly here. But when we started to reason out at two and a half years of age, from then on, if you look at it closely, everything is acquired, it’s all learned stuff from then on. And the focus goes into that learned stuff... that’s where the belief in separation comes about, with “I” and “not I”. And with that sense of separation there’s insecurity and vulnerability. The total focus goes into that mental construct we’ve built about ourselves and we miss the Natural State, which is still going on here. This is the yearning to be re-cognised again. Innately you already know this, but it’s like the cloud coming over the sun. A big cloud will come over the sun and you go outside and you say the sun’s not in the sky. You don’t say that for long because, by looking, you realise that it’s impossible for the sun to ever leave the sky. All the sun does is shine of itself. It doesn’t need any other light to make itself see its light. Now this self awareness or self knowing is constantly here. It’s not a self-particular pattern, it’s an overall self awareness. The cloud of thought has covered it over and our focus goes into that cloud of thought and we don’t recognise that the innate Natural State is still functioning. It’s not recognized, that’s all. Have a look at that metaphor of the cloud and the sun, what causes the cloud? The sun’s always in the sky and all it does is shine. It’s not concerned with what happens on the ear th, it just shines in itself. And in that selfshining, it’s warmth will evaporate the water and form the cloud. So it’s the sun itself that enables the cloud to form. And that cloud could cause a wind or break down into rain or disperse. And in breaking down into rain, it’ll land on the earth and there might be a seed in the earth and take that warmth and water and that seed will grow. So many things happen because of that shining of the sun. All the sun does is continue to shine, and gives us our life too... we wouldn’t be able to live on this earth if it wasn’t for the sun shining. The same thing applies to the essence that you are. Now as I say, it’s constantly here and when you hear this, something pulls you... it’s like a magnet. A magnet will attract cer tain filings to itself and will repel others. It’s functioning in these pairs of opposites. And this is what’s going on all the time. You’ll notice in your life how many things you are attracted to, how many things will repel you. Over the years there have been very few who have pointed to this. Now it’s more prevalent, it’s spoken

“Recognise the naturalness that you are – pure, all-pervasive, space-like, ever-expressing, spontaneous presence-awareness, with no reference point having any substance or independent existence. Failing to recognise naturalness (the unity of appearance and emptiness, space and its content), delusion happens and there is a grasping of or fixation on appearance - me and the other, a seeming duality. Without that fixation, there is freedom as naturalness. Delusion dissolves and evenness (non-duality) remains - the natural state, simply this, nothing else. Naturally remaining as naturalness (equanimity), is the natural (effortless) meditation of no one to meditate and nothing to meditate on – of no trying to get or trying to avoid, just effortless being which is always already so. Recognise this again and again.” - Bob Adamson about and spoken about. And when you hear it, it resonates. We recognise it. Because you already know it. Leo: Well, a lot of these questions came about because I need to ask you questions or I wouldn’t have an interview... I’ve asked many teachers and masters this question and it’s always interesting to hear what they have to say about it: What is enlightenment? Sailor Bob: There’s no such thing! Enlightenment implies that there is somebody, that there is an entity here with some independent nature of its own and that if this entity does certain practices and does things that are good, it’ll come to understand God or whatever. It implies that there’s something to get in some future time. But that moves away from what the ancients tell us, that It is omnipresence. Time is a mental concept. If you look at that closely you can see it. Time is only a mental concept. It’s only ever here now, so that’s why we say here: Start from the fact that you already are That. You can’t negate that beingness. At no time can you say “I am not.” And the knowing that you are, is constantly and ever with you. So if you are already that nowness, what are you going to get that’s going to improve anything? It’s just a matter of having ignored our true nature, we’ve focused into the cloud and ignored the sun, the light of the Spirit that we are. We’ve ignored it but It is already here... It is already here, shining. The only thing you know for sure is the fact of your own being... you can’t negate that being. In seeing that, there’s nowhere to go. Leo: These days I can sit with myself and fall back into that Presence and just be here with It. But then I marvel how I can overlook it throughout my day, when I’m busy and get caught up in my thinking and all the rest of it. But I do fall back in, it seems to come of itself quite naturally. I’m not here constantly but I’ve touched a place that pulls me in without me trying. But I wonder, what can we do in our busy lives to assist with being more present? Sailor Bob: So you fall back into it and you realise it’s here, it’s the base... you can’t fall anywhere but into It. Now when you think you’ve seemingly lost it, what’s going on? It’s just conceptualizing going on. If you understand that, and you’ve pulled it apart and had a look, you realize that the thought itself “I have lost It”, is also That. Not as the thought, but as the essence or the base of the thought. Then, even the thoughts that are going on, don’t become a problem, even if you seemingly believe in the thoughts. Could you have a thought if it wasn’t for That? See, a thought has no independent nature, thinking doesn’t happen on its own, it couldn’t happen by itself. How many thoughts can you have without That? When you realize that a thought has got no independent nature, then

everything becomes all-inclusive again.

That. Each and every one is already That.

Enza: So what happens with the thoughts?

Leo: And all these questions that you must be asked a million times, the same questions... it must take a lot of patience to always answer the same questions.

Sailor Bob: Everything stays the same as before, but now you know the truth. Just the same as you learn the truth about the blue sea. You go down and see a beautiful blue ocean but there’s no way in the world if I said “Go get a bucket of “blue” water from the sea” that you could. No way in the world that you’d even consider it. You know the truth about it, you’ve seen through the false appearance of blue, and you can still admire the appearance but you know it’s not a reality. The same as you know a rainbow, you can’t go and grasp a rainbow. It’s only the light shining through the mist … or the water in the mirage, or the blue sky... all these metaphors are used to point to That. The old scriptural saying is “Know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free.” Only a few hundred years ago you looked out over the ocean, where the sea and the sky merge and people would say “Don’t go out there, you’ll fall off the edge” And we believed it. But nobody believes that now, because it’s been investigated and seen the falseness of it. On investigation you see that all your thoughts, feelings and emotions, everything in essence is That. Pure presence awareness appearing as other – always, only and ever That. Knowing that, conceptualising falls away and awareness remains, totally unconcerned with thought. Thought is a vibration, a movement of energy; it’s always divided so it can never know non-duality. That’s why we say you can never find the answer in the mind. Because the mind will keep going in different tracks and divides itself into super-conscious, subconscious... all these other shapes and forms and continues to go down different paths. It will never find the truth. The only way out of the mind is to full stop! Full stop... pause... we’re home. You’re immediately present... you’re here. If you look at it closely you’ve never left. Even in the seeming convolutions of the mind, you’ve been present. It’s not in some future time which is imagined or anticipated... not something that’s been recalled. No. Right here. Effortless being - just this. Leo: What motivates you to teach? Sailor Bob: It’s the way it’s meant to be happening. I came back from India and people started to ask me whether Nisargadatta had asked me to talk. But it wouldn’t have mattered if he had told me not to talk. He couldn’t have stopped it. Enza: What do you see in me, in us, in all these people who come to visit you? Sailor Bob: Whether you know it or not, I know that you are already

Sailor Bob: I don’t know, it’s just what’s here... who would call it patience? These labels can only come up if there’s a reference point to attach to it. Compassion and all that, that wasn’t my nature. Going back to what I was like, there was no compassion, none of it. It’s naturally here now. Enza: Listening to everybody talking in your meetings it seems, at first, that everybody’s got it. I see some incredible depth of intelligence in their questioning. Very profound thinking about it all ... But then I realize they haven’t really got it, because they’re still asking the questions to clarify what it is that they have or don’t have. Sailor Bob: The simplicity of It, the mind can’t grasp that. They think there must be more to It than that, so they seek out every avenue until they can find It. They’re still trying to get some answer in the mind, tuck it away there. But if you can simply see that the mind is continually dividing things, the mind is dualism itself, and it can never, ever grasp non-duality. So what are you going to do with your mind? It’s there simply as an instrument, translating stuff but you’ll never find any answers in it. I’m saying again that, in that pause for even a moment, everything’s still here registering... you’re here, fully present, with or without thoughts. Leo: I really get that... And that’s just so simple and yet so obvious but, I still find I lose myself sometimes. Sailor Bob: And that’s it, you’ll find you’ll keep doing that for a little while. But it loses it’s power... It’s taken all these years to build up all this anxiety and fear, and the psychological stuff that goes with it. But eventually you realize that, if chatter goes on, it’s just noise... just like the car going by there; you take no notice of that. You’re still aware of it, but you don’t take any notice of it. So you’re aware of the thoughts and ever ything else that come through and it’s just That spontaneously translating into thought... To who could it matter what thought, event, or happening occurs? Leo: This next question I remember asking Andrew Cohen and he laughed... How do you know you’re not deluded?

Laughter all around Sailor Bob: (Still laughing) Deluded or not deluded are mental concepts. In that non-conceptual awareness, if you pause once again, in that pure seeing without wavering, is there any idea or concept about being deluded? What’s wrong with right now unless

you think about it? It’s only thought that can put those labels upon it. You make the label Human Being and label God the Supreme. Now take the label “Human” and take the label “Supreme”... if you remove the two labels, what remains? All that remains is “being” . That is being a car, That is being a chair, That is being a tree outside. Take away “car”, “chair” and “tree”, what then? It’s all just being. And being doesn’t know “becoming” or “was-ing”. It’s what the actuality is right now. There’s no delusion in that, that’s a fact. Leo: So, who or what is Bob? Sailor Bob: (Laughter) Bob’s just a label. Leo: Is it necessary to have an awakened teacher in your life to help you see, or can it be done totally alone? Sailor Bob: The way it happened here (within himself) was that somebody that knew, pointed back to my own true nature. He showed me that I was already here. Enza: In this dream that we are all dreaming, a person appears and tells you that you are dreaming... Sailor Bob: Like in that dream you had that night, somebody told you. What’s the difference? (Laughter) Enza: (Laughter) Yeah... it’s the same, isn’t it? Sailor Bob: If there’s no one around to tell you, something will innately tell you. Enza: So, me coming here... in a way, I didn’t come here to get something from you but I’ve been led here. Somehow, something wants to know. (Laughter) Sailor Bob: As I say, with that dream, it just confirms what you already know. You can pick up a book and read something in it and it confirms what you’ve already realised, or you’ll see somebody... As I say, you already know it and when you hear it, it’s That that resonates with Itself. Then it’s not taken in by the mind. That’s what we call The Art of Listening. When I’m not listening to you and you’re not listening to me, that’s called conflict. Because you’ve got your concept about me and I’ve got my concept about you, it’s not penetrating. When we say “hear t to hear t”, when you have a “heart to heart” with someone, you know what that means. The heart is usually the symbol of the Spirit. When That resonates within Itself, then there’s communication... and That opens. You’re really having the inner hearing. It’s no longer mine, it’s yours. Leo: My question from my heart is, I really see it and I wonder what I’m meant to do. I guess the obvious

answer is just do what needs to be done... be who you are. Sailor Bob: With that question there’s a subtle implication of future time there. Leo: Yeah, there is. Sailor Bob: Even that subtle implication of some future time, where you’re wondering what you’re going to do... it takes a lot of attention away for what is already present. Being is here and It unfolds Itself. Just be with your Natural State. Leo: I see a love drenched being before me. Strangely surrendered to life, very ordinary, very natural. I wonder, what does your wife see? Sailor Bob: (Laughter) You better ask her. Leo: I will ask her. Sailor Bob: Barbara... Barbara

Barbara walks into the room. Leo: This one’s for you Barbara, I’d just like to ask you a question.

Laughter all around Leo: I see a love drenched being, strangely surrendered yet very normal, very natural in Bob... but I’d like to know what you see. Barbara: (Laughter) You’ve gotta be joking ... you better turn that tape recorder off.

More laughter from everyone Barbara: You just get on with the living. We’ve had our ups and downs, we separated... I lost count (how many times). Against both our wills I went over to India with a friend to go to Muktananda’s ashram when Bob was there. He was already going out to see Nisargadatta and he had taken two women with him to see Nisargadatta, but they weren’t at all impressed because apparently Bob and Nisargadatta were yelling at each other. The two women thought that it should be all sweetness and love... A couple of weeks later I arrived in India. We were getting divorced, so we were in separate beds in the hotel room we were staying in. And Bob said to me “Would you like to come and see this man?” And I said “Oh yeah...” And when I sat there it was just... like... “That’s it!” And I didn’t really want to go back to Muktananda’s ashram anymore. And we got back together again. (Laughter). So you see, that’s our life, and... it’s great. We’re both very different people. The best thing is I mind my own business and he minds his but we overlap like this... When I was in America I went to all Bob’s talks there and I was just sitting in the second to front row and I liked to pretend I didn’t know him, to feel as if I were listening afresh, anew. And I just thought “Wow... this is amazing. He’s meant to do this.

I remember one man, standing up and going on a great long blurb about Buddhism and some other “isms”. Bob’s answer was very simple “Well I don’t know very much about Buddhism or any other thing but I do know This...” And he just sort of wiped it all away with his answer. And I got, like I have now - tears in my eyes, because I know it’s all coming from... that Oneness, that Essence... But in our everyday life, every day, it’s very normal (Laughter) Leo: Well that’s the end of my questions but I do want to share with you Barbara something that happened the other day, the first day we met Bob. After attending his meeting, we were chatting with him and I said “Everything I hear you say is totally exploding in my heart... I recognise it as truth and, it totally resonates, I get it, I see it, I know this and before I could mouth the next word, Bob - pointing his finger in the air - said...”But”... which was the word about to come out of my own mouth And I grabbed his finger, saying “So you really mean that if there are no more buts … if I simply “Full Stop” here, it’s finished, it’s over? He simply replied “Yeah … That’s It!” And we went away with this... “No more buts”. Then, in the car, while Enza and I were still reflecting on the simple yet profound Truth we had encountered, I looked at my watch and it had stopped at the very moment when I had grabbed Bob’s finger... 12:34pm. 12:34pm, 9th of October 2005, was the day my watch stopped. The watch is frozen in time in that moment! So I have the watch here as a reminder of the timelessness of it all … the end of time. Enza: “Sailor Bob - The one who wrecks watches!”

Laughter from everyone Leo: Yeah, move over Yuri Geller. Bob has an amazingly clear and direct way of expressing what has been called Non-duality. SelfRemembering with Stephen Denham

Reclaiming our Birthright of Soul

The ideas of the Armenian mystic George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff (18661949) may at first glance seem far removed from a discussion of multitasking in the 21st century – and yet key elements of his teachings speak to us now with a striking relevance. Life is accelerating in 2012, so much so that the old days can seem like not very long ago – say two or three years at most, or even just last year. And it’s not just fun that makes time fly. In our working life, it’s well recognised that if you are busy the day goes faster. But if the days are rushing by then so is your life, and it’s good to not lose sight of what’s impor tant; not to get caught up in ceaseless activity, which at the end of the day doesn’t leave you with much. It is here that Gurdjieff’s teaching beckons us like a street sign, showing us another way. In the early 1920s he emerged from a twenty-year pilgrimage throughout the east, to present to the western world a rich gestalt of methods and disciplines borrowed from different faiths, philosophies and practices - with the purpose of waking humanity from what he called its “waking sleep.” One of Gurdjieff’s better-known sayings is that “Man cannot do” – a

statement linked closely to his view that in the normal flux of life we are a collection of many different selves or “I”s. For each of us, at any given moment, there may be a different “I” in charge, depending on our emotional state or the situation at hand. In this divided state, we cannot do because there is no consistent, reliable self directing our behaviour. This idea of many “I”s bears an interesting relationship today with multi-tasking - a term borrowed from computer science in the 1960s. Multi-tasking might be considered an important strategy in managing the demands of a fast paced world; in fact, as we find ourselves increasingly busy with competing priorities, common sense would tell you it is essential. Current psychology, however, has something quite different to say about it. One of a recent batch of courses rolled out to companies and their employees about how to manage or prevent burnout puts multi-tasking firmly in the “no no” basket. Despite the fact it appears to be a necessary aspect of surviving in today’s business environment, multi-tasking is now recognised as stressful, even counter-productive. In this context, Gurdjieff’s teachings from almost a century ago, not

only complement current thinking and the findings of workplace studies, but reveal a whole other dimension to how we might approach life in this second decade of the 21st century. Present day strategies for dealing with highly demanding, stressful workplaces operate at the level of what Gurdjieff called the “good householder.” Within the Gurdjieff system, the “work” as it came to be known, could only be undertaken by students once they had established a basic mastery over life conditions that is, they were able to hold down employment, maintain a home, pay their bills and taxes, engage in stable relationships and so on. Today, therefore, a good householder would be someone able to manage similar demands within the fast-moving context of our technology-driven lifestyle, without compromising the integrity of their inner self or succumbing to stress or burnout. While this in itself might be considered a worthy enough achievement, for Gurdjieff this represents just the

www.innerself.com.au beginning. The Gurdjieffian path to becoming a fully developed human being revolves around a number of key concepts and practices, the most fundamental of these being attention. Attention is the basis of “selfremembering” by which Gurdjieff meant the process of being present to what one is doing – that is, going about life without being so distracted or divided. With sustained effor t, self-remembering was a key factor in gradually breaking the hypnosis of day-to-day life, the rulership of the law of accident and the vagaries of the many “I”s - those parts of ourselves with different needs and wants - that keep us in a state of waking slumber. According to this system, the vast majority of men and women are out of balance, meaning they tend to be predominantly orientated toward one of the three centres - intellectual, physical, emotional - to the neglect of the others. For instance, an intellectual type would be mentally focused to the extent of having under-developed emotional and physical expressions. Gurdjieff’s work represented a group-based, multi-faceted exposure of this habitual, mechanical side of human nature, targeting the different centres. The ultimate aim was to bring about a state of balance from which the individual could begin to awaken their latent capacities – the higher emotional and intellectual centres. This raises big questions for us today, in regard to what we are doing, and the quality of how we go about it. When we jump from one task to another, we generate a stress that compromises more than just the quality of our work. Over time this also has a negative impact on the quality of who

we are, our being. To recall Hamlet’s famous question, we forfeit our right to be. In effect, we choose not to be. Or to put it yet another way, we cease to be; we lose touch with our soul. Modern studies reveal there is a substantial level of mental effor t required to simultaneously work on multiple tasks. Multitasking is counterproductive for two basic reasons: 1) Employees simply cannot multitask like a computer, and so switching from one task to another ultimately results in loss of time and efficiency; and 2) the demand and effor t involved generates considerable stress for employees, which over time can have additional negative consequences for workplace productivity. Many strategies are suggested by today’s psychologists to counteract the negative effects of multi-tasking: for instance, complete one job before you move on to another; check your email only a few times a day; learn to delegate better; and break up large tasks into manageable sub-tasks. There are also a number of what you might call being-focused practices recommended like deep, rhythmic breathing, stretching, progressive muscular relaxation, yoga, positive visualisation and meditation. The strategies listed above are all commendable ways to becoming good householders, to use the Gurdjieff terminology. However, the being or soul dimension of human nature presents itself in questions of spirituality more than popular psychology or empirical research. If soul is a quintessential aspect of what it means to be human, we should be concerned if our contact with it is under threat. Our multi-tasking overdrive is in effect a lack or loss of attention. But in the

spiritual realm, attention is the axis of being and awareness; it is the key to realising one’s creative potential. When I learn to practice self-remembering, by regularly directing attention to my physical, emotional and mental manifestations - my body, my skin, my breath, my emotions and thoughts - I begin to develop an awareness of being, of the human being that I am; I begin, as Gurdjieff expressed it, to “grow my soul”. In 2012 there is more at stake than our ability to manage our busy lives. Unchecked, the acceleration of life and our constant level of distractedness will push us toward oblivion. Modern psychology’s defensive strategies to avoid burnout, reduce stress and restore balance are only partly the answer. Gurdjieff’s teaching calls us to remember ourselves and our God-given soul potential; and as good householders, to embark upon the quest to become creators in our own right.

THE INVITATION

Perfecting Life Through Imperfection Sky Shayne Innes “Life doesn’t get better. Life is perfect exactly as it is.” I wrote these words in my book, Love’s Alchemy, with the crystal clear clarity that comes in those precious moments of true and perfect awareness. Yes, they are words that point powerfully to the truth, and because they are the truth, we recognise their truthfulness in our hearts. Nonetheless, even with heart intelligence, these words can trigger a howling resistance, a rage and an outcry that would make a mountain quake. How dare you say that life doesn’t get better, that life is perfect exactly as it is. How dare you say life is perfect when my wife has left me; when the diagnosis is cancer; when my child comes home in tears again because of the bullying. How dare you say life is perfect when another species is now extinct for no other reason than we have chopped its natural habitat down. And, we have chopped it down in the name of energy, ignoring the energy of the sun and wind and water. How dare you say life is perfect exactly as it is, when I have yelled at my best friend because my tolerance is non-existent for lack of sleep, because the back pain turns night into a hell-realm filled with the crazies. How dare you speak of perfect life when the abuse still plays out in my life fifty years later and my hear t is broken again.

How dare you! How dare you?

As a question, it is well asked. How, indeed, can we find life perfect exactly as it is? How, when life feels like a burden and not a gift, a “to do” list and not an awesome experience of wonder and delight. And, if it is perfect exactly as it is, do I sit back and put up with it, with my addiction, my anger, my wound, my harmfulness, my pattern, my intolerances and my prejudices? The alchemy in these words is to do with your point of view. If your point of view is informed by the material world you appear to live in, then these words are outrageous in their inaccuracy. If the divine informs your point of view, then these words are sacramental, inviting the mysterious and the sacred directly into your present moment. The invitation is to tune in to your wisdom body, awakening your inner guidance. This is where you have to give up your sureties of who you think you are and what it’s all about. The world we see with our eyes open is the conceptual world, our consensus reality and, ultimately, the illusion. Close your eyes and you begin to see the rest of the world, the possibilities and the potentials of this great illusion. Every aspect arises out of your creativity. We close our eyes, not to escape but to explore infinite possibility. We enter new dimensions and other reali-

ties from this inner realm. We don’t do this to get a better understanding, and often there is no coherent explanation. Instead, there is revelation, an uncovering of the mysterious that brings insight, inspiration and guidance but remains always a mystery. There is a purpose for every aspect of our lives and a protocol for manifesting it as the divine. Trust is the key. Total trust that whatever you are creating now, it is always about manifesting the divine. Your life is a message to the divine. Your life, your stories, your journey has no other purpose than to manifest the divine in form. To do this we have to know life’s sweetest gift, which is love. Actually, life is love but we can experience life either from the perspective of love or its opposite, fear. Life lived in love means that you trust that everything - every experience, every obstacle, every tribulation - is there for the single purpose of awakening to the divine. When your life is a painful experience in one way or another, it is an invitation to remember, to recognise, to realise. Because of the invitation, life is perfect exactly as it is. Love has many qualities but perhaps the most demanding quality of love, is trust. If you can accept the invitation, trust gives rise to a freedom and spaciousness in the face of the most challenging experiences. Trust that you are walking your path exactly as you need to walk it. You may trip, stumble, even fall along the way, but

www.innerself.com.au know that no matter what, everything is always okay. In recents weeks, I have faced an assortment of challenges, the most difficult being to do with my physical health. Blessedly healthy for most of my life, this health issue came as a very unwanted, imperfect and somewhat nasty surprise. It also delivered two precious gifts. One is the gift of listening - listening to my body and respecting its messages. I have long understood this but I am now so much more receptive, aler t and respectful. The other is the gift of choice and creative choice at that. Do I go along with what the doctors say (and if so, which one?) or do I withhold my agreement and manifest differently? This does not mean I fly in the face of their wisdom. This means I take responsibility for it, trusting my guidance for the right support and treatment. I confess I came close to handing over responsibility but my antennae for fear stood me in good stead. As I write this, I cannot tell you a story of resolution but I can tell you of my resolution to trust that life is perfect exactly as it is. Trust deconstructs the story of fear. To be willing to trust that it is all divine design invites real transformation. Every joy and every bump in life is recognised as the divine matrix designed to grow and evolve, not just you personally but the whole that you are. WHY OUR EMOTIONS ARE THE KEY TO PRONOUNCED AND LASTING CHANGE by Jaan Jerabek Things were not always going well for me. I was always emotionally stuck, full of anxiety and riddled with physical ailments, not to mention broke and never able to achieve the abundance of love & money “I knew I deserved”. I was constantly in my head, because I constantly tried to escape the emotional trauma stuck in my body and heart, so it was less painful to stay in my intellect. (Yes, poor intellectuals... it is true) My thinking would run 24/7. I literally used to think so much that there were times I would not sleep all night because my mind would be so active. I lived in constant hyper vigilance never having inner peace. Depression would come and go, addictions would come and go. I would systematically sabotage my relationships if I finally got the partner I wanted, that was when I was not chasing unsuitable par tners/love interests. I was a mess. I was your average human being. The only thing that really made a difference was emotional release work. Why emotional release work? On our journey of wholeness, our healing, there are 4 main stages we have to go through in order to resolve our “Core Life Issue” issue. I deliberately say “issue” singular because I have found that no matter what we are trying to deal with, whether it is dysfunctional relationship patterns, or lack of relationships. Whether it is family issues, life purpose issues, money issues, health issues, depression issues, anxiety issues, physical health issues...whatever the issue is, it actually ALL stems from your “Core Wounding” or two in some cases. The univer se actually made it rather simple for us, our poor minds have made it complicated and we segregate the areas of our lives when in fact all the different areas of our lives will be symptoms/expressions of the one thing that runs us and uses up our lives - our unconscious core beliefs. We are either driven by “I am not good enough, I am bad, I am not wanted, There is something wrong with me, I am not good enough as a boy for mum, or as a girl for dad” and the list goes on. But behind all of these is the experience/mis-interpretation that we are not being loved, and all these core beliefs are what we decided to rationalize in our mind why

we were not experiencing our parents love... some are more than rationalizations and were things we were told over and over such as “You are a naughty/ bad boy” or some were things we psychically picked up on “I wish I had a son, not another daughter” if your dad was inclined that way or “I wish I had a girl after my first boy” as my mum thought to herself... we know what goes through our parents’ mind when we are really young. The job of the therapist/healer/facilitator is to help you become aware of this unconscious part of your thinking process – that governs 98% of your decision making on an unconscious level AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, help you discharge the emotional pain that keeps that part of your thought process alive and running the show. The emotional energy literally keeps it alive and in charge of your reality... The painful emotions associated with these core beliefs and not experiencing love issue is the equivalent of an electro-magnetic energy charge that has to be discharged through crying/wailing it out to discharge the grief aspect, screaming/punching/ kicking it out to discharge the anger aspect and shaking in fear & terror to discharge the fear aspect. If you do not go through this and only uncover the belief aspect and then “decide to move on, forgive yourself and your parents” you are in “la la land” and will wonder why down the road you are still experiencing suffering, struggle and unnecessary stress in life. If you are undertaking a therapy that does not have as a goal the discharging/ expression from the system your built up emotional pain - your anger, sadness, fear, guilt and shame, then you are wasting your money and you are wasting your time. Many therapists mean well, and genuinely desire to help you and want to see you get better, but if your therapist does not have the tools to facilitate in you the releasing of raw emotions, than chances are they have done a “mental learning” of human nature, or even worse they have studied statistics and other people’s case studies from text books, which the majority of psychologists have as training in university, and they are equipped to only give you “advice” around changing your thinking or

our goal is to awaken one community at a time . . . behaviour through willpower. If they are not using a technique to facilitate emotional release in you, they have not been trained in one themselves, which means they have most probably not yet done their own long term emotional work... This means that they do not have the genuine map to get you out of your emotional maze yet. Simple. Let’s face it, if all it took was willpower to change, then the world and its people would be in a different place and you would have been healed by now and would not even be reading this. Even the vast majority of “alternative and new age” healing modalities are like this... A head trip. People avoiding their emotional pain, stuck in their heads, trying to help other people come out of their heads. Or even worse, people escaping into the energetic/spiritual realms, so they are even further up than their heads, they are up in the clouds and promising you life change through some ethereal means. The blind cannot heal the blind. Make sure your therapist is grounded and in their body, with a functional material life, successful relationships, in their power, communicating their boundaries and present on this material plane. I have noticed that the best psychics also happen to be the most wounded people, because living up in the angelic, spiritual, energetic realms is the best and most pleasurable escape... believe me, I lived there most of my life. The astral plane, astral travel, Akashic records, chakras, yogic living, ascended masters etc etc. I loved it, and still do. But now I do not use it like a drug to escape the “real plane” and the real issues of self worth, the pain of unmet love and emotional needs from the family, the fear of being present and vulnerable in the face of intimacy... The pain of being in the body on planet earth. Watch for it - Spiritual Addiction will be named for what it is shortly. A Disease like workaholism which also took a while to be named. I hope you appreciate that I am not making anyone or anything wrong. Everything really is perfect, everyone is at the perfect place, doing the perfect thing. I am merely trying

to shed light on the path for many people who are misled, and end up suffering needlessly for longer than necessary. And I am trying to save you time and money by giving you a guide of what to look for in a therapist and technique. Whether you do your deep inner work with us or someone else is irrelevant, I am speaking to you as fellow human/friend to fellow human/ friend. Cathartic Breathwork though, is one of the rare modalities that actually delivers more than it promises. It opens up the emotional pain on the “raw emotional level” and enables you to discharge the electro-magnetic energy charge that keeps the core beliefs alive and running the show. It does this from the first session onwards. Come try it with us, you will not be disappointed. It has to be “Cathartic” style Breathwork which has as its main aim the emotional trauma release, not a “whatever happens happens...It is all perfect, go with the flow” aim (less-ness). You need to do it with people who are experienced and trained to use it as a grounded therapy tool with other psycho-therapeutic “side techniques”, not an airy fairy, spiritual bliss, meditate & hug, transcend type of approach. Unless that is what you want for now or as a break from “therapy”. This is the introduction to my free ‘e-book’ available on my website www. jaanjerabek.com. The Art of Self-Care

by Glenda Needs

As a human services professional, one of the most critical elements in maintaining a passion for what I do is carefully managing boundaries and self-care. This means keeping a balance between my professional and personal lives, looking at how my body and mind are responding to the way I live, and sometimes being prepared to say “No” even when I want to say “Yes”. The quickest way to burn out in your chosen profession is to ignore the warning signs and battle on despite them. I often find myself using ar t as a means of reflecting not just on my day or the issues that a client might bring to therapy, but to further observe and understand my way of being in the world. I use the art to tell a story. I look to art for insight and guidance. I pay attention to what comes up for me and, finally, I act upon this new knowledge. Try it for yourself.

Imagine an old castle, a stronghold, a place that metaphorically holds your professional practice. In order to maintain your ability to keep doing this work, you need to protect the castle. The drawbridge is often down and all the townsfolk can come to the castle for whatever they may need and, in fact, many may also bring elements that enrich your practice. Imagine your passion for your role as a fire burning brightly in the middle of this castle. Imagine that the timbers that feed the fire and keep the castle warm are the symbols of a sense of achievement. They may be the successes, big and small, that you might experience each day. These logs are the energy stores that help keep this fire burning and the fuel you use to continue the work you do. Some days, the fire might burn low and the logs to feed the fire may be few. Perhaps on these days you

spend time talking to a good friend, a colleague or a supervisor and you are reminded of what you bring to the lives of others. These people will hand you another log for the fire to restore the passion and have the fire burn brightly again. Around the castle is a moat. The moat is a special space - a sacred space. This is an area that you expect people to respect. A well protected castle has a moat with creatures wonderful to behold but unwise to swim with. Anyone who seeks to gain access to your practice by unfair or deceptive means, climbs into your moat. This might be the client who follows you home, or seeks you out through means other than agreed upon by the terms of your engagement. Sometimes without appropriate protection in the moat, someone will sneak into the castle. This can be frightening, and a real threat to your capacity to keep the castle’s fire burning. Be sure you have determined who is swimming in the moat as protection. Is it your boss? Perhaps you also have the police? To provide your clients with a service: they must come to the castle’s drawbridge. The door guards lower the drawbridge and when the work is done, draw it up tight. Perhaps they have instructions to lower the drawbridge on weekdays and raise it on the weekend. Perhaps there are some conditions where the guards may choose to lower the drawbridge. Perhaps if a client is in immediate need. Will you answer a phone call from a client at 11pm? To imply that he or she cannot manage without you indicates an unequal power, a relationship of neediness rather than self-empowerment. So will you lower the drawbridge? Perhaps it is during your daughter’s birthday party. Do you potentially hurt those closest to you to suppor t another? Perhaps you have worked seven days straight and are exhausted. Do you risk your own wellbeing for that of a client? Is this model an appropriate way of being? Be sure your door guards know the answers to these questions and clearly know when it is appropriate to lower the drawbridge and when the castle needs to be locked tight. Who stands at the battlements on

the very top of the castle overlooking your practice? This may well be a professional accrediting body, your clinical supervisor, or even your boss at work. You will also have the law keeping an eagle eye on your practice. It might be worthwhile to place your partner or a trusted friend here also. This can be the person who asks “Is this the third night out this week for work?” or “I can see you are not coping so well at the moment, what about a few days off?” This person may also say, “This is great. From here, I don’t know the inner workings of the castle, but I can feel the warmth from the fires inside and I can see how happy people are when they leave here”. Spend some time drawing your castle on a large piece of paper. Use the metaphor in as many ways as is applicable to your practice. Then stand back. Look. What do you see? What can you learn about yourself and how you operate in your profession that will help you keep the fires burning and the passion for your profession bright? Self-care is not just for ourselves. If we do not care for our own wellbeing, we model inappropriate self-care to our clients and ultimately without this awareness, we will burn out and be unable to do this valuable work at all. Stop and take measure often, and keep those fires burning brightly! Glenda is the Head of Art Therapy at Ikon Institute Australia. Beliefs and Spiritual Evolution

By david Lane

Points of view about what is right or wrong can and do change. If we compare our current views with those of our childhood; we will probably find that several if not many of our perspectives on life have changed. Some more obvious examples would be Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny. These changes in our perspectives are the results of a healthy mind because a healthy mind will reason and compare without initial judgement. We may find that what was once perceived as right is now perceived as wrong. What is really happening here is that what is right and what is wrong depends on the perspective that is applied. Our perceptions are based on our beliefs systems which are based on the information that we hold in our long term memory. What we believe is also our personal truth! Any original or “first time” information is like a database and all new incoming information is compared with and processed according to that information. We cannot help being influenced by this data and therefore we cannot help being biased towards our beliefs. This original data is also known as our “core beliefs” but these beliefs may be faulty because some of the original information may have been faulty or – misinformation. Please note that a healthy bias helps protect our survival because it provides us with a healthy scepticism on any new information. This protects our vulnerability to being misled and provides us with the opportunity to use our discernment. It can be an asset when used in balance but on the other side of the coin; it can reinforce our fear-based beliefs and hinder any productive assessment of new information. Being willing to stay open to new information, no matter how much it conflicts with our current beliefs, applying our wisdom and discernment whilst applying a healthy, balanced bias will provide us with a safer platform from which to spiritually evolve. Most people would find it hard to create that type of balance in their thinking. They may have to regularly practise applying such a concept in order to transfer it from their short term memory to register it in their long term memory where it will become a permanent memory. Once in the long term memory it can become a habit or an automatic response. Many people believe that they can keep an open mind on any subject but they can’t help making a biased judgement of what they believe is right or wrong. Some scientific research has shown that it is impossible for the researchers to keep their bias from affecting the outcome of any experiment. Why? We know that thought creates outcomes and it is

the first stage of any creative process i.e. “thought word and deed”. We also know that thought affects matter. Thus; their biased thoughts will always affect the outcome of any experiment. Some research estimates the bias to influence the results by up to 40%. They cannot keep their bias from affecting the experiments, no matter how hard they try. They often refer to this phenomenon as the “Placebo effect”. This is a huge scientific conformation of the belief that our thoughts create outcomes. The human race has a heavy bias towards the belief in the duality concept of right and wrong. We have to learn to manage or overcome our bias if we want to spiritually evolve to the higher levels where the concepts of levels of truth are found. This higher concept is difficult to grasp and it creates a problem because the human race relies on the opposite polarities of right and wrong to function. However; there is a lot of injustice in the world and there are continual arguments about what is right and what is wrong. Countries go to war believing that they are right and the irony is that most of the time; both sides believe that they are right. We all need to raise our consciousness to the higher concept of levels of truth if we are to avoid continuing these repetitive patterns that create anger and hatred. One of the Christian Ten Commandments is “Do not judge unless you be judged”. This brings up a question; “what is the best way to compare conflicting new and old information so as to make a judgement about which one is right?” New research or information is often discredited by those whose beliefs are threatened by the information. It is usually very difficult to make a judgement about what is right and what is wrong based purely on the arguments put forward by both sides. We know that it is impossible for both sides to keep bias out of the argument and it is just as difficult to judge who is being more biased. If a person is well read on the subject then they may be in a better position to make a more informed judgement. However; even they will be biased in their judgement because they will have core beliefs that are influencing their perspective on the subject. The answer to the above question is; “don’t make any judgement at all”. Allow yourself to observe and understand both sides of the argument. Take it all on board as “information only” and do not judge it. One side may make more sense that the other or both may or may not make any sense at all. It does not matter what perspective you currently have, just treat the information for what it is –

information! Many people mistakenly think that they always need to have an opinion and so they make judgements. However; once that judgement makes its way into the long term memory it will become their “truth” and all new coming information will be processed according to any associated information held in the memory. They will judge the new information according to what they know and the judgement will be affected by what they already believe and they cannot help being biased. Spiritual growth and freedom require us to increase our awareness with an open mind. David Lane’ s spiritual journey started out with Christianity but now includes many other understandings drawn from a diverse range of information. He believes that we are all individuals who have come to tread our own unique spiritual path. David’s first book called ‘The Handbook to Heaven’ is about how we spiritually evolve and how to monitor our journey and is available online. David has also developed an on-line course on ‘practical spiritual evolution’.

MoneyMindset with Dr Andrew Powell

The Root of all Evil?? We’ve all heard it before, right… that money is the root of all evil. In fact, unless you’ve been living like a hermit in a remote cave somewhere then I bet you’ve heard it probably thousands of times throughout your lifetime. It’s an idea that is very pervasive in our society. It’s something that comes up with every single one of my 1-on-1 clients in some form or another… without exception. If we’re honest, I think deep down most of us accept this concept as being true at least to some extent. No matter how much we might consciously realise money is not evil, there’s a deeper part of us that just seems to resonate with this idea. After all, looking at the world around us who could deny that money is the cause of massive problems? Greed and irresponsibility in the financial and banking sectors have caused

immeasurable pain and loss to millions of people. Retirees have had their dreams of a peaceful, abundant future shattered. Corporations rip us off and pollute our environment in the name of shareholder profits. The third world is exploited by wealthier nations for its rich natural resources while millions continue to live in grinding pover ty… who could deny the evils in society that seem purely motivated by rampant desire for money? Yet for every one of these situations there are compelling examples of money being used to make massive positive differences in the world. Millions are donated to charitable causes every year. The Grameen bank has created a revolutionary model of micro-lending to women in povertystricken communities to allow them to create their own small businesses and help them, their families and

their communities become self sufficient. This model has proven wildly effective and is now being adopted by others around the world. Every year volunteers give their time, energy and passion to help those in need… for example I spent a month in Kenya with a dedicated group of natural health practitioners helping people heal from trauma… something I could never have done without the money to pay my way there. The truth is, for every example of money doing harm, there is an equally powerful example of money doing great good. However, we hardly get to hear about these. These stories don’t sell newspapers, or advertising space on TV news. The focus of the media when it comes to money is overwhelmingly negative. Throughout our whole lives most of us have been programmed with negative associations when it comes to money. We receive these messages from our friends, families, religious teachers, schools and universities (who are always struggling for funding)… in fact from pretty much everywhere. All this has the effect of programming our subconscious mind. It has been shown that there are 2 key requirements for learning- repetition

and emotion. When it comes to negative ideas about money, both of these conditions are well and truly met. We hear the negative messages over and over again, year in and year out. Not only that, money is an extremely emotionally charged subject for most people. Lack of money triggers our very deepest fears about survival. Most people’s ideas about money are deeply rooted in fear, and the media constantly “pushes our buttons” because they know we will react. So money satisfies both the requirements for deep, lasting, automatic learning. No wonder the idea that money is evil seems to resonate at a deep level, while any positive money associations are quickly brushed aside and forgotten. What we are resonating with is not the truth, but simply our own subconscious programming. And we wonder why we have issues with money! When we sidestep our programming (easier said than done) and look at it objectively, it’s easy to see that money is simply a tool, a means of exchanging value. It is neither inherently good nor bad in and of itself. This makes sense when we look at a tool we are not so emotional about… say a hammer. A hammer could be used for good, such as building a house for the homeless, or it could be used for “evil”, such as beating someone over the head. It would be ridiculous to blame the hammer for being good or evil, yet that’s exactly what we do with money all the time. Now here comes another big distinction- the original quote isn’t that money is the root of all evil, but rather that the love of money is the root of all evil. The key thing to realise here is that rich people don’t love money. In actual fact, rich people love the freedom that money gives them. They

understand that it’s not the tool, it’s what you do with it. In the same way, the carpenter doesn’t love the hammer, he loves the work he does with it and what he creates with it. If you can truly understand that concept, and take it on at a deep level, then you are on your way to shifting one of the biggest money blocks that people experience in society today. So how do you do that? Try this exercise. Take a sheet of paper and at the top write “I’m a good person who deserves wealth because…” Then come up with at least 100 reasons why this is true. Dig deep, don’t just stop when your mind goes blank (which it will - this is just a sign that you have exhausted the conscious mind and are starting to break into your subconscious, where the real issues are hiding). Then take another sheet and write “Having more money will help me be a better person and do more good in the world by…” Once you have at least 100 reasons listed on each of these pages I guarantee you will have a different attitude to money, and you will be amazed how it starts flowing towards you as a result! Awakening your Memories!

Love – the pathway to purpose

Learning to Make Memories

by Stephen Chong

by Karina Godwin Making memories is one of my favourite things to do. I started consciously making memories about a decade ago, when I realised I had very few good memories from my first marriage. “Could it really have been that bad?” I thought that I wouldn’t have stayed in a marriage beyond fixing, but I know that isn’t true. I often yearned for my freedom, yet the need to stay together for our children overrode that yearning. Maybe I couldn’t remember the good because there wasn’t any or perhaps I was just so busy that I didn’t absorb the good times when they were there. My first marriage taught me so much about what I wanted in my future, and a catalogue of great memories was one of them. On the night of my fortieth birthday, I found myself surrounded by so many wonderful people at a gorgeous venue over the bay. This party was incredible! Everyone was here for me, and I didn’t want to miss a moment! More impor tantly I didn’t want this memory to fade like so many others, so I wandered around, pausing and taking mental snapshots. I embraced every second of that night, and have so many memories as a result: the cheeky smile of my underage daughter as she tasted her first cocktail via my step children, my beautiful husband Berni kissing our baby boy whilst he slept, his smile of love for me, and people laughing and dancing. “Live in the moment and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering!” Fanny Crosby We often miss the reasons for our journey here. The idea of incarnating on Ear th is to learn to feel in the absence of the full expression of our Source energy. We begin to understand and create spiritual wisdom:how the human interaction dancesin the absence of this love energy. This is best done in the school of Earth. We are here to enjoy each

moment of our lives, ideally arriving at our final destination having lived so fully, with so much joy and abandon, that our lives were full of the love and success we attracted. Better than perfectly attired and groomed, having missed out on the fun!

Making Magic

So we have this incredible opportunity to make magic whilst we are here. Ask anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one right now: life is too short to waste it on things that don’t really matter. Believe me, as a nurse watching people leave their lives on Earth: it is a very humbling opportunity to see what really matters. I learnt to really and truly live in the moment, whilst nursing a lovely 42 year old many years ago. His greatest regret was that he had not lived more and worked and worried less. When I sat with him at 2am on the night of his diagnosis, I promised myself to remember that life is for a defined amount of days. No more, no less. Watching him contemplate not living to see his children grow, he asked me to promise that I’d live life to the fullest. I remember his gift to me: “Karina the only thing that really matters is those you love, friends and family…enjoy them while you can”.

Making new Memories

Today is a new day. Tomorrow is another new day… you are in charge of your destiny. So what if today didn’t go so well and you failed to do/ be what you thought you would. Start again right now. Begin as if today was the very first day of the rest of your life. What are your dreams? What do you yearn for? What would you do if today was your last day? Write a “Living Bucket List” full of all that you’d love to be doing right now. Begin again, focus upon what is impor tant to you and expand that

energy outwards. This will bring you greater abundance and opportunities for success, love and happiness than you could have imagined. Even better, when you do decide to leave the Earth to return home, you will leave behind a legacy of memories that will be cherished by those you love. It’s about living fully rather than existing, life is not meant to be miserable…

Karina’s Living Bucket List:(to give you some ideas on how to begin!)

1. Love my kids and make sure they know it…kisses, cuddles & more 2. Passionate expression of my love for Berni every day 3. Dreaming time... 4. Have fun every day 5. Nurture my body every day in some way or form 6. Make up for old hurts by letting them go 7. Listen to my music 8. Dangle my feet in water 9. Walk on the beach and breathe in its magic 10. Draw 11. Tuscany 12. Hawaii 13. More fun 14. Etc. etc. etc. Karina Godwin is the Founder and Dir ector of the Flying Souls Institute of Healing in Melbourne. I often receive requests from people to assist them to find their purpose in life. This is eminently realisable through an exercise in creative visualisation. Yet, we need to understand where our “life purpose” has its origin. It is through our principle relationships, with ourself and others, that is the well from which we draw this knowledge and inspiration. “Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of our being. It is the only way to be fully present and totally aware of the other being. My love for my family, gives me a meaning to love – a love that knows no limits and no boundaries. Through this love, I am becoming more aware of what I can become, and what I should become – what is yet to be realised.” Ref: Chong, 2011 It is best encapsulated in a story … between a father and his son. A young child sat on his father’s knees as he was told a story. This was a most favoured time of the young boy, for it was the time when he had the total devotion of his beloved father. At the same time each week, the two would sit on the comfortable old lounge of their quaint, but modest home on the outskirts of the town. His father read him a story of dragons and sorcerers. It was a tale of great deeds of heroism in the fight against an evil that had beset the land. It was a grand adventure and one that the young lad would remember for the remainder of his days. When the story was finished the young lad asked his father, “Dad, are these stories really true? Did these things actually happen?” “Well son,” said his father, “some would say that these stories are myths and legends. Others would say that they are figments of wild imagination. Even others would say that they are literal truths that occurred many centuries ago.” “But father, what do you say?” enquired the boy. “Well, what I know is that whatever you believe is true.” “Dad, I don’t understand. What do you mean?” “Well son, in life whatever it is that you believe in, you actually make real. It is real for you. By believing it, you make it real.” “So dad, if I believe in the devil, then I make him real?” “Yes, this is so.” “If I believe in God, then I make Him real.” “Yes, this is so.” “If I don’t believe in anything then life has no meaning?” “Yes, my son, this is so.” “But if life has no meaning, then what is our purpose for being here?” “Exactly son, exactly.” “But dad, where do I find this meaning?” “Son, what do you love most in the whole world?”

“Well, I love you and I love mum and I love my sister, Elizabeth and I really love our dog, Misty.” “Good, said his father, because the meaning of life has its origins in love. Love for others, as well as for yourself. Therefore, would you treat me and mum badly?” “No,” replied the boy, “I love you.” “Would you treat Elizabeth or Misty badly?” “No, I would not. I love them too.” “Excellent, because your actions are in harmony with the meaning and purpose you give to your life. I think too, that you are well on the way to a rich and fulfilling life?” “Why dad, how do you know?” “Because I love you too son, and so does your mum, Elizabeth and Misty.” Stephen Chong is an inspiring and engaging speaker and coach. READY to LIVE MY DREAM

by A Student of The Health Arts College Imagine being your own boss and in control of your own destiny for a change? IT IS POSSIBLE… I have always loved caring for others and dreamt of finding a vocation that made sense. I wanted to make a difference. My dream of going back to study was always being sidelined by either lack of money or time. Late in 2009, I became involved in some self- development workshops and received different types of treatments in complimentary medicine. It turned out that I loved it! I became certain that pursuing my passion of helping others by developing a career in complimentary medicine was exactly what I needed at that point in my life. I knew then that it was exactly what was missing and what I had been looking for to fulfil my life, both personally and professionally. For years I slugged away at an unrewarding job, each effort I made going unappreciated, looking out the window and dreaming of something different. I wasn’t sure if I could make it in a new career. I was sure that I would go crazy or become very ill if I didn’t do something. But I was afraid and lacked confidence. I made excuses for my lack of action and as a result, nothing changed. Finally work was making me so unhappy that I decided to make my dream a reality and give it a shot. I rationalised that anything had to be better than my soulless 9-5 existence. To study massage would be a great personal development tool, and no harm would be done by studying part time while working. I would still have my job and be able to try a new skill – no learning is wasted. I was worried I could not afford it though, as I had heard it cost many thousands of dollars to study complementary health. I mentioned this to a work colleague who was studying massage at the time and loving it. He graduated and quit his job to do massage full time. I told him how envious I was of his success but that I would have to skip massage as I had bills to pay. That was when I decided to find a reputable College that offered training in Diplomas on weeknights and weekends. This meant that I could continue with work and family duties whilst pursuing my dream. I did find such a College and enrolled in a Diploma of Remedial Massage. The College I attended embraced and encouraged me throughout my learning experience. The instructors were of an exceptional calibre, thoroughly professional and caring in their approach to instilling their wisdom and experience in me. The way in which this fed my passion was invigorating. I felt the challenges were set at just the right level to motivate and push me to do my best. I achieved more than I had thought possible. The students became my friends and we supported each other as friends, family, study partners and eventually, colleagues. The College had a fantastic system in place which enabled me to get the practical experience I needed to become a professional, confident and experienced practitioner. They had VET FEE-HELP, so that with this Federal Government loan the issue of finances vanished. In Victoria, the College is also approved for the Skills Victoria subsidy, which is a grant you do not have to pay back. What a great opportunity! As I developed as a practitioner, I undertook professional practice hours in the attached student clinic. Whilst I was nervous to begin with, the staff and instructors, and even the other senior students encouraged and supported me. Within a short while I felt and acted like a professional. Clients were telling me how much I made a difference to them and how I had changed their lives. They were walking out with a new perspective on life, which I had contributed to! It felt amazing. More and more Australians are now more interested in their health and wellbeing than ever before, and you have a booming industry that presents many opportunities for a career change and better work-life balance. Complementary Health is a gratifying and stimulating career option for people who feel that they can make a difference to the health of another. It’s a job that requires maturity and life skills for the most part. It can impact on your own health in many ways that you may not even have considered. For example, less stress. Finally, the satisfaction of choosing your own path and being successful gives a health boost that money cannot buy. If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding complementary medicine and complementary medicine schools, let career training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, kinesiology, aromatherapy, reflexology, and others get you started! Explore the opportunity for learning in a vocation that appeals to you and embrace the prospects in complimentary health. For more information on beginning YOUR dream contact The Health Arts College via email on study@thacollege.edu.au, research all your choices at www.thacollege.edu.au or you may call to speak with YOUR personal course advisor on 1300 658 326.

Move Towards Your Dreams By Megan Chambers Do you wish you could live your life with a sense of meaning and purpose but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you haven’t found something that makes your heart sing. This article gives you practical tips for figuring out what you most love doing and bringing more of that joy into your life. Since I was a teenager I felt that I was here to do something important but I struggled to figure out what it was. Eventually I started thinking that perhaps I was delusional, that I only thought I had a purpose when in fact I didn’t. At that point I let go of my quest and decided to just be content with the way things were. Interestingly, that’s when everything started falling into place. My mentor asked me, “Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?” After a few days of thinking my answer became clear, “Running my own successful natural therapies practice.” I am now in the joyous position of watching my dream come to fruition. Following are some key steps I took in the years leading up to my mentor’s pivotal question. I know they can help you clarify what makes your heart sing and create a life you love. To star t, get a journal and go to a place where you feel most creative – a park, a beach, a coffee shop, a hillside, your backyard, etc. In the journal, write your answers to the following (yes, please do write rather than just doing this in your head – there’s power in writing): • What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail (“rob a bank” is not the kind of answer you’re looking for!)

Would you learn to sing and join a band, open a restaurant or nursery, quit your job, climb Mount Everest, learn to scuba dive, or leave work earlier each day so you can see your children before bedtime? • What makes your hear t sing? Start a list – at the end of each day think back on what you did that you really enjoyed. Nothing is too inconsequential for this list – sometimes simple things lead to big outcomes. If you did nothing that you enjoyed then don’t add anything. If you are consistently adding nothing to the list then start another list – what would I have loved doing today if there were no restrictions on how I live my life? Add at least one thing to your list every day. Don’t judge your answers and don’t leave something off because it’s not “realistic”. • What would you do as a job even if you weren’t paid for it? That is, what would you do simply for the love of it? Again, don’t count anything out at this stage, include everything even if it doesn’t seem linked to a ‘real’ job. Remember, people create jobs for themselves all the time.

Now it’s time to get creative and dream…

• Look at your lists and identify themes – write these in your journal. My themes were: a love of learning about psychology and spirituality; a love of trying to understand what makes people tick and how concepts of the divine play out in people’s lives; a love of meeting with like-minded

people to explore these ideas; a love of helping people see their problems from an alternative, more positive perspective. Another example is, feeling most connected, centred and happy when you’re in nature; a love of digging in the dirt in your garden, designing beautiful areas in your garden and watching your plants flourish. Finally, explore how you can make this love of yours a bigger par t of your life. • Decide how much time you want to spend on your passion every week (this is different from how much you actually can spend right now). You may be happy just having it as a hobby on weekends or you may want to do it five days a week and earn an income from it. • Write yourself a letter from your ideal future, stepping through a perfect day in your life from waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night. • Decide whether you need to acquire new skills to engage in your passion to your desired level – this is particularly important if you plan to derive an income from it. If you need new skills, research workshops and courses you can take to acquire them – talk with people or review the websites of people who are already doing what you want to do to see what skills and qualifications they have. This tells your unconscious mind that this is the direction you’re now going in. You need to give your unconscious direction otherwise it’s like a ship without a rudder. And now – GO FOR IT! Every day

take at least one step towards your dreams no matter how small. You’ll be amazed at how quickly lots of small steps can add up to a big impact: • Book into the workshops or courses •Read about your chosen topic • Connect with others who have a similar interest • Subscribe to relevant magazines • Join groups of like-minded people and attend networking events • Keep writing in your journal to keep you on track and inspired • Give yourself rewards for your achievements, eg. treat yourself to a nice meal or a trip to the movies when you hit a milestone – they don’t have to be big milestones to be worthy of a reward! • See a counsellor to help you remove any unconscious blocks you have to achieving your goals. This will clear the way and help you move forward with ease and grace. • And most importantly of all, keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities. The most amazing synchronicities will occur once your unconscious has a goal! Good luck – I’d love to hear from you about your progress. With a postgraduate degree in Psychology and 13 years’ experience in the corporate world, Megan Chambers is now living her dream of working to help people heal and grow. What is Kinesiology?

by lynette jordan

Kinesiology is a natural healing modality and communication tool that enables a person to access and improve how they function in all areas of their life. It is the science of energy balancing and is grounded in the study of anatomy and physiology. Using muscles as monitors of stress and imbalance within the body, it enables people to detect and correct various imbalances that may relate to any area of their life. This could include nutrition, learning problems, injuries, emotional imbalances, concerns related to stress and any other issues they meet in their daily life. Kinesiology allows you to achieve your optimum potential through a state of total balance. It can transform your health, increase your inner peace, enrich your relationships, and increase your prosperity and success. It can help you to grow as a person, embracing life to the fullest. Developed by Chiropractor George Goodhear t D.C. in the early sixties, Kinesiology has come a long way from those early days. Initially using muscle monitoring to evaluate muscle function, posture and general body imbalance, he continued his research and through his work and the work of countless others, Kinesiology has developed into an effective tool for finding where and how imbalances are held in the body. Using this information, the Kinesiologist is able to find the best options to assist in bringing the person back to their optimum health and wellbeing. Every person is unique and so there are no “one-size-fits-all” solu-

tions with Kinesiology. Each individual is treated in the way that best suits his or her needs at the time. To the uninitiated, Kinesiology can be a puzzling experience. New clients often comment, “I don’t know what the practitioner did, but it seemed to work because I definitely feel better”. A Kinesiology treatment is known as a ‘Balance’. During the balance the client remains fully clothed. After taking a comprehensive history, the practitioner uses “Muscle Monitoring“ to address energy imbalances. So what is muscle monitoring? The body never forgets and because it doesn’t the Kinesiologist will be able to find this hidden information using muscle monitoring. Placing specific muscles into a position where the integrity, not the strength, of that muscle can be monitored and asserting gentle pressure upon the limb, indicates how well the person is coping. An unlocking muscle indicates a disturbed energy flow, making this is an effective and versatile tool for detecting and correcting various imbalances in the body. This method taps into the subconscious and monitors a range of physical/structural, emotional, mental, nutritional, and spiritual aspects. Stresses left untreated may manifest into some form of disease, an accident, poor nutritional or postural habits, unresolved arguments, personal trauma or crisis. During a balance, people are often surprised to find themselves recalling long forgotten incidents. The person however, never forgets because our survival-

our goal is to awaken one community at a time . . .

oriented structure means we hold all memories, particularly memories of negative experiences, somewhere in our system. The unconscious mind projects these experiences into the body, mind and soul, an outcome that gives rise to ‘feelings’. So what does all this mean for you? Kinesiology encompasses a vast array of balancing modalities with most of these emphasising the impact emotions have on an individual, par ticularly unresolved negative emotions. Muscle monitoring can pinpoint these emotional triggers, and by bringing them back ‘on-line’, the person is given the opportunity to re-evaluate the event and the circumstances surrounding it. The power of Kinesiology lies in the ability to get to the cause of the problems Kinesiology can help with a wide range of personal issues such as stress and muscular and ner vous disorders. It can also detect allergies and nutritional deficiencies and assist with emotional problems, learning and behavioural difficulties. The body’s energies can also be stimulated and untapped potential can be released. A session will generally take about an hour to an hour and a half. Your practitioner will take a full medical history to gain an understanding of where you are in your life. You may wish to work on a specific issue, or just look at increasing your energy and zest for life. Kinesiologists have all witnessed amazing and sometimes extraordinary changes in client’s lives through this unique form of natural therapy. COLOUR IN FOCUS

by Anna Wilson

Remember the wonder of seeing a rainbow as a child? That is a wonder that never seems to leave us, we see a rainbow and if we are alone, we stop and look at the colours with awe, if not, we exclaim to whoever is with us, “look, look... a rainbow!” A rainbow appears so beautiful; we wonder how can it be... Even though we know it is the effect of light refracting through raindrops, a rainbow never ceases to amaze us. In that instant of seeing a rainbow, we feel happy. That is what colour can do, make us happy. We all know that the present moment is not so bad, not really. What happens is, within the present moment we spend time worrying about the future or regretting the past, and thus we taint our present moment, which is really not so bad. Colour can bring us back to the present moment. A moment in which all else fades away except for the realisation of colour. Colour has a subliminal effect on us, which is why it is used so successfully in advertising. Fast food outlets often use red and yellow. Red is a passionate grounded colour, it makes us hungry and energised. Yellow is a sunny happy colour that makes us want to laugh and talk. So we can see how red and yellow work well in places where for optimum turnover of customers, people should feel hungry, chatty and sociable, but energised so that they want to leave once they are full and see what else of interest they

can put their energy into! As colour works on us anyway, understanding a little about the quality of colours, means that rather than being affected at the whim of those who know its powerful effects, we can start to consciously use colours to bring about effects in ourselves and in our lives that we desire. The great thing about colour is that because it works on a subliminal level, and thus affects our minds without us being aware of it, we need do nothing but see colour for it to work its magic in our lives. So obviously for colour to work we need to be able to see it. We are using colour as focus points. With this in mind, wearing a coloured ring, bracelet or watch, would be effective as our hands are are often in view as we look at the time, work on the computer, or when we reach forward to pick something up. Conversely a coloured necklace, unless it was very long would not be seen unless we were looking in the mirror, so it would not be as useful as a focus point. Conscious focus points of colour are also good to use in the home, as scatter cushions in a chair your eye sees rather than sit on. So if you use the couch they can be arranged on a chair that is observable from your position on the couch. Once you start using focus points of colour to bring desired changes or effects in yourself or your life, you will get more inven-

17 tive and start to work out pertinent colours for yourself at par ticular times during your life. As life changes, so too do the colour choices that will help us. Some ideas are a big red pepper grinder in the kitchen against a white wall, if you feel you are wanting more energy and passion in your life, and of course if you spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen! When studying, yellow can bring us clarity and violet can help us ground our ideas. To have these colours help you during study, it is as simple as painting a yellow ball and a violet ball on a piece of A4 paper and sticking it to the wall in your line of vision. Each time you take a break from study, or want some clarity over an issue, or are not sure how to put your ideas into words for that essay, look up at your painting. This will refresh and clarify your mind, giving you room to make sense of what you are studying, or if you are writing an essay it will help you ground your ideas into the printed word. If you find the day always starts with an argument, either with your partner, in traffic or at work, start the day with a green focus point. Green is harmonious and is the colour of new beginnings and forgiveness, have something green by your alarm clock, if this is the first thing you see in the morning. Also by the bathroom mirror, that gives you a start to the day. If there is a leafy route to work, take that route, and if there is a park nearby work, try to pop out even for a few moments to take in the green of nature around you. Focus on colour, and enjoy. FREE DOWNLOAD Leo Drioli’s debut single “Give It Your Love” www.LeoDrioli.com Dear Friend, I’d like to invite you to join me on a joyous journey, it’s the journey we’re all on already – the Way of the Heart – and in our own unique way, our life is always an expression of it. Over the years my Journey of the Heart has expressed itself through my work as a publisher, editing Golden Age magazine and Innerself Newspaper, and as an author with my book “Every Moment’s a Miracle”. Another aspect of my work that’s also been very close to my heart is my music, which I’m about to share with the world. My first single “Give It Your Love” is a song I wrote a few years ago while working through a major life transition. I’d hit an impasse on my spiritual path, eventually coming to see that the only way around it was through it, by allowing the “eye of the heart” to open and guide me through the dark passageway. Many times in life, we are brought to our knees, to this very same point, where once again we are given another opportunity to “see” what we have become, and whether it’s aligned to our higher purpose here. This is always an opportunity to deepen and awaken into what’s real and true, into that One that’s always present and available … that One that’s looking through our eyes right now and simply allows for all things to be, just as they are. I’ve come to see that all you can ever really do is … “Give It Your Love.” “Give It Your Love” is the first single being officially released on May 3, 2012 at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney. But you don’t have to wait till then to receive your copy. For a limited time, the single is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD. Please download your copy and have a listen, I’d really appreciate your feedback. Go to www.LeoDrioli.com Join me on this joyful journey. And remember … Give It Your Love, Leo Drioli For a limited time, the single is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD at: www.LeoDrioli.com

Be prepared to take some hard decisions as relying on consensus may not be productive. This may not popular with everyone but it will get things done. 28 29 M H Emotions run deep and may catch some by surprise. 30

0421 326 001 or 08 8563 9182 however, we can easily discern our “Moon” birthday simply by looking at the phase of the Moon. Every month, each and every one of us resonates to that aspect of the Sun-Moon relationship that is imprinted in our psyches. This describes the basic capacity of the person to relate to life generally. In order to find the lunation phase you are born under, you can consult an almanac for the year and find out what the Moon phase nearest to when you were born. Dane Rudhyar, a famous astrologer developed the theory of phases and used it to develop the eight lunation types of personality which we will be discussed in a series of short articles over the coming issues.

These are generic interpretations for each of the zodiac signs. For a more personal interpretation, astrological consultations are available by appointment on

Lunar phases occur as a result of the relationship between the Sun and the Moon. This cyclic relationship produces the lunar cycle and everyone is born at a particular point in this cycle. A birth can be labelled as a “first quarter” “full moon” or “balsamic”. The lunar phase a person is born in refers to the relationship between the person’s Sun (the sense of self) with their Moon (their emotional expression and security). Therefore, the lunar phase that a person is born in can reflect how that person deals with life - the nature of the energy and their attitude to life and how they deal with it. The lunation cycle is a visible symbol of our place in the larger cycle of life. Without a calendar, we cannot accurately pinpoint our day of birth,

Ayurvedic Routines for Health By Vishnu Dass, LMT, NTS, CAyu True freedom can only be achieved through discipline and awareness. This is why in India yogis go through so many austerities to attain liberation. Health is freedom from disease, but also freedom from unrestrained desires and drives. An Ayurvedic lifestyle requires discipline and awareness, which you can develop by slowly integrating daily routines, or dinacharya, into your lifestyle. Following are some of the main dinacharya practices. Wastes should be eliminated from the body first thing in the morning. This helps revitalize the organism and prepare the body to receive more nutrients. According to Ayur veda, one should have at least one bowel movement a day. If not, the toxins can be reabsorbed into the tissues. To avoid this, it is impor tant to eat enough fiber-rich food and good quality oils, such as flax, olive or sesame oil, and avoid excessive amounts of raw foods and chilled drinks. There are traditional herbal compounds that help restore and maintain the tone of the colon while gently cleansing it

on a daily basis. But be careful not to abuse laxatives; even the herbal ones can weaken the tone of the colon and create dependency. Another early morning Ayurvedic practice is to gently brush the teeth and scrape the tongue. A thick coating on the tongue indicates that there is ama (toxins) from improperly digested food in the GI tract. You should scrape off this coating with a metallic tongue scraper several times prior to brushing your teeth. Early morning bathing is another basic dinacharya practice. In yogic traditions, bathing symbolizes the purification of the soul. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it also washes the sweat residue from the pores of the skin, leaving a healthy radiant glow. Gentle herbal soaps or powders can be used. The daily practice of rubbing the body with oil (abhyanga) can further nourish the skin and deeper tissues. Vata constitutions should use sesame oil, pitta should use coconut oil and kapha are best with corn oil. As much as possible, you should wake with or before the sun for medi-

20

tation. In the Vedic tradition, the pre dawn hours are known as Brahma mur ta. This quiet, calm time, when the Earth and its inhabitants are still asleep, is most conducive to a meditation practice. Even if it cannot be done before dawn, regular meditation is essential for the maintenance of health. It helps to rejuvenate and purify the entire nervous system, as well as to calm the mind so you can experience deeper awareness, peace and joy. Yoga and exercise are also important aspects of good health. The type of exercise you choose should be suitable for your specific constitution. Walking is probably the best exercise for all constitutions, as is traditional hatha yoga. Ayur veda suggests a workout at half the body’s capacity, just until you break a sweat. This will stimulate the digestive fire (agni) and relieve constipation. Relaxation and sound sleep will also result. Overexercising can cause dehydration, breathlessness, muscle aches, chest pain, and it may eventually lead to arthritis, sciatica, or heart conditions. Kapha individuals can perform the most strenuous type of exercise. Pitta people should do a medium amount of exercise and only during the coolest time of day. Those with a vata constitution should do the gentlest type of exercise; even though they love to jump and jog, better choices are yoga, stretching and T’ai Chi. Finally, the cultivation of clear, compassionate and loving relationships is another impor tant aspect of a healthy lifestyle. Suppressed or unresolved emotions can poison your body just as much as bad food combining. Regular meditation (or a meditative type of practice) can enhance your awareness of relationships and promote discrimination as well.

Kahuna Bodywork

Flowers and Hula skirts or Psycho Spiritual Transformation? by Fiona House When people speak of Kahuna Bodywork it might conjure up images of Hawaiian women dancing in hula skir ts and flower necklaces. Many get confused with the massage term ‘Lomi Lomi’ and think that it’s the same thing. Is this true? What actually is Kahuna Bodywork? K ahuna Bodywor k does have its roots in Hawaii. Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, who accessed this work from his own genetic memory, was a Hawaiian Kahuna. He is responsible for bringing his beautiful Bodywork to the West and introducing Westerners to Kahuna sciences training. This is where the Hawaiian connection finishes. Those who perform Kahuna Bodywork as trained by Ki’a’i Ho’okahi Weber, a direct student of Kahu Abraham, do not have anything to do with flowers, hula skirts or “temple style massage techniques”. We are participants of a traditional lineage, of a training that is Hawaiian in its roots, but not specific to Hawaiian culture. Rather, the training is a universal yet personal journey where we gain access to our own genetic line, and gain the wisdom and power from within us. With regards to Lomi Lomi, this is another type of massage and is not Kahuna Bodywork. Lomi Lomi is a Hawaiian word that refers to general massage, a bit like we would go and get a therapeutic massage each week to ease back pain. Kahuna Bodywork is something very different.

Kahuna Bodywork is not really a form of massage. We do use the application of oil on the body as a tool used in combination with rhythmical strokes to take the client into motion, but we do not “rub” a client in the manner of in a normal massage. While we do address different aspects that may be bothering the client, we do not work with intent and try and “fix something”. Rather, Kahuna Bodywork works like a dynamic re-patterning process on body, mind and spirit that gives people the oppor tunity to realign themselves: their own body’s wisdom changes old non-contributing patterns that are no longer serving them. The rhythmical application of the strokes, applied with chi energy, allows their body to reorganise itself energetically on a cellular level into a more contributing pattern —something that does not happen with therapeutic and remedial massage. This means that when you receive a Kahuna Bodywork session you are reaping the benefits of physical pain relief and relaxation, as well as a deeper realignment on emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Because of this, Kahuna Bodywork has been described as “a body based psycho spiritual transformation” as it skips the busy mind and enters the body allowing the wisdom of our multifaceted beings to come forward. Training in such a modality takes years of dedication. It is not about

doing one or two courses and then becoming a Kahuna Bodywork practitioner. One needs to find that space, awareness and wisdom within our own selves first before we are able to perform and provide the deeper healing space for others. Our training is mostly non-verbal, and cer tainly very physical (it has been compared to a martial art), giving us increasing access to the wisdom held in our bodies so that we can then learn to “perform” this wisdom on another. Fiona has been practising K a h u n a Bodywork for the last eight years in her business Your Body Your Temple. If you would like to know more or experience Kahuna Bodywork see www.fionahouse.com.au For hands on learning you can book into a weekend workshop to experience and learn about how Kahuna Principles can be put into healing action immediately without any tools needed. Essential Oil

with Robert Reeves Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist

Herbal Healers: Peppermint Peppermint is a widely known and used herbal medicine. Its healing uses vary from herbal tinctures, essential oil, herbal teas, and even cooking. Peppermint has become a herb that’s so commonly used we sometimes forget it’s a healing tool. There are many varieties of mint, however the most therapeutic is Mentha x piperita or, peppermint. Common mint and spearmint have mild healing actions but real peppermint is the best. This wonderful herbal healer has physical benefits, as well as some deep and powerful energetic ones. Let’s take a closer look at this herb you may already be using.

Finding your Voice

The energy of peppermint helps you find your voice. It gives you strength and courage to speak your truth. If there are issues you need to discuss, peppermint can be your comforting guidance during this process. Allow the healing energies of peppermint to walk by your side and allow you to speak what’s on your mind.

Perfect Peppermint Tea

When brewing a healing cup of peppermint tea there are several steps you should follow. To gain the most effect, both physically and energeti-

cally, you’ll want to enjoy the sensitive oils in the leaf. To do this steep your tea in a closed vessel such as a teapot or plunger. Generally 1 tsp per cup of water is a good starting place. If you don’t have a teapot then add peppermint to your cup, cover with boiling water, and then cover the opening of the cup with a saucer. As the tea heats ,the aromatic oils will be diffused in the steam. We want to trap these and allow them to condense back into your infusion. Therefore, you must cover the cup when it’s brewing. You can enjoy your tea either hot or cold, both taste good and both are beneficial.

Improving Digestion and Colic

A common use for peppermint is digestive complaints. It’s often used for nausea and stomach aches. The subtle oils help ease pain in the stomach and relieve wind. This makes it excellent for babies with colic. Brew some peppermint tea and allow to cool. When your little one’s curling up with wind pain and cramping, grab a teaspoon of cool peppermint tea. Either give it directly in their mouths, or give them a little more in a bottle. Keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours, then discard. It’s gentle, safe, and relaxing to their little tummies.

www.innerself.com.au

A common mistake is using peppermint for hear tburn and reflux. The action of peppermint relaxes the sphincters in the stomach. This means it can make reflux even worse. There are other herbs that can be helpful for heartburn including meadowsweet, gentian and chamomile.

Energetic Properties | Clearing Energy Channels | Energy Healers

Peppermint has great energetic proper ties. You can gain these through using peppermint in any way including food, tea, tinctures, or oils. Just set your intention to benefit from the healing energies. Peppermint opens up all of your energy channels making you a perfect vessel for Divine love and light. Perhaps make yourself a cup of peppermint tea as an experiment. Quietly sit and tune into your body and energy. Now, take a small sip of tea. Notice the feeling run through your body. Notice a coolness flow through your arms and tingle in your palms. This is your innate healing potential being awoken. This is an excellent herb for energy healers and energetic workers to use as part of their daily self-care practice. Having a cup of peppermint tea with a client can help keep your channels open, clear, and give you the courage to deliver messages of love and guidance.

The essential oil of peppermint smells refreshing, uplifting, and enlivening. It raises your energy and boosts your spirit. By having the scent waft through your home you feel more positive and happy. Add a few drops to your aromatherapy oil burner. You can also apply the oil to the skin. It’s best to dilute it first with a carrier oil such as olive oil, almond oil, or jojoba. Add 10 drops of peppermint per 5ml of carrier oil. Then, massage it into sore muscles or around the neck and shoulders for headaches.

Fever

Peppermint is what we call a diaphoretic. A diaphoretic helps the body “break” a fever by promoting sweat-

ing. Fever is a natural response the body takes to infection. The idea is to heat the body so that the invading bacteria can no longer survive. Fevers can help strengthen the immune system, but don’t feel too nice. Make yourself more comfortable by drinking warm cups of peppermint tea. Yes, I did say warm cups. Sounds contradictory doesn’t it. The warmth of the tea helps spread the peppermint through your body faster. Then, it can relieve muscle aches and bring on a sweat. Once you sweat the fever will generally come down. However, you must constantly monitor a fever to be safe. If it begins to get too high and approaches 40°C you need to get medical assistance immediately. This is my recommendation for healthy adults. Children and babies need

different care so please don’t use this method for your little one, ask for medical assistance from a professional. All of the preceding information is meant as a guide only and is not meant to replace proper medical care. Please speak with your health care professional before under taking any of the above mentioned advice. Salt Therapy Arrives in Brisbane

Salt Sanctuary, Brisbane’s first salt therapy clinic, is located in the bay side suburb of Cleveland. Salt therapy is a 100% natural alternative for respiratory and skin conditions. Salt Therapy involves sitting in a specially prepared room, with salt on the walls and floors, with a medical device that grinds pharmaceutical grade salt into a breathable powder. Salt therapy has been shown to benefit many respiratory and skin conditions such asthma, bronchitis, COPD, hay fever, sinusitis, cough, eczema, psoriasis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, ear infection, cold and flu and many more, including stress relief and relaxation. Stress” Loving All Human Beings “Every time we experience stress, Catering For All Human Beings whether it be physical, emotional, pharmaceutical, chemical, sleep deprivation, extreme temperature, noise stress, burns, surgery or any other trauma, we lose magnesium as a result. It is difficult with food alone these days to supply enough magnesium to compensate for all the stresses we are exposed to. A resulting magnesium deficit means the body cannot properly detox or repair cells and DNA links. In other words, low magnesium leads to premature ageing and all its symptoms of stiff achy joints, headaches, inflammation and allergy, anxiety, insomnia, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, muscle cramps and involuntary muscle spasms, pain, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, foggy brain, skin disorders, and weight gain and more. The more deficient in magnesium we become, the more acute the stress responses. Magnesium helps to calm the central nervous system and counteract the effects of stress. Oral magnesium supplements are difficult for people to properly digest and absorb, with the majority of magnesium being expelled before it gets to the tissue cells where it can be used. However, transdermal

secret lay in the quality of the water they drank every day. What the scientists discovered was that water underwent a transformation as it bubbled and cascaded over mineral rocks in pristine mountain streams and as it gushed from underground streams. They discovered that indeed - not all water was the same! These waters had properties that enhanced life and they called it the Water of Life. Today those same scientists have recreated nature’s processes to produce zazen Essential Water, with the same exceptional qualities so we can help you nur ture yourself and your family. Taking this nutrient could be one of the greatest gifts you ever give yourself. A 3 year d o u bl e - bl i n d s t u d y with over 350 people reveals this superfood unleashes a tiny army inside your body that can remove heavy metals linked to lethargy, aching joints, depression, poor digestion and blood sugar levels One of the reasons the Japanese value chlorella so highly is its natural detoxification abilities. Chlorella is a “green food,” a single-celled, micro-algae that is about two to ten microns in size. It’s very small. It is this small size combined with its unique properties that make it such a useful detoxification tool. Its molecular structure, allows it to bond to metals, chemicals and some pesticides. When chlorella is taken into your body, its natural action will bind it to lingering heavy metals, chemicals and pesticides found in your digestive tract, which is your body’s pathway to your bloodstream where these harmful toxins are delivered and deposited into your body’s cells. So chlorella first and foremost will help your body eliminate unwanted metals and toxins. But it does more than that. Chlorella is uniquely designed to not bind to the minerals your body naturally needs to function optimally. It does not bind to beneficial minerals like calcium, magnesium, or zinc. It’s almost as if chlorella knows which metals belong in your body and which chemicals need to be removed. Supplementing with chlorella is like unleashing a tiny army inside your body to fight the battle of removing toxins from your tissues and ushering them back outside your body where they belong.

Konjac Root Japan’s best-kept secret for lasting weight loss, health and wellbeing.

What is Konjac?

Konjac or Shirataki Konnyaku is a traditional Japanese health food made from a herbaceous perennial plant called “Amorphophallus Konjac”(K. Koch), water and calcium hydroxide or oxide calcium extracted from eggshells. The Konnyaku is cultivated for food only in Japan, but wild forms grow naturally in Southeast Asia and China. Japanese and Chinese have been eating Konnyaku as a health food, for over 2000 years. In the beginning, it was a precious gift shared between monks in the form of medicine and cakes. Konjac is quite popular in Japan; almost every family eats Konjac in every meal. It is still the most favored food in Japan. The Ministry of Health in Japan implemented that konjac food should be used in the cafeteria for all schools. Right now, Japan is the largest consumer of konjac foods. The main ingredient of the Konjac root is glucomannan fibre. Glucoman-

nan fibre not only contains more than 16 types of amino acids, but is a low-protein, low-fat, high-fibre food. Thus, Konjac can lower LDL cholesterol and blood sugar. Made out of a soluble dietary glucomannan fibre and scientifically proven to make you feel full faster, they can be helpful as par t of any weight loss, low carb or weight management program. The glucomannan fibre has also been scientifically proven to lower cholesterol and high blood sugar which can prevent heart disease and diabetes. It has also been shown to aid the digestive system, assist with elimination, and prevent constipation and diverticulosis.

The Nutrition and Health Benefits of Konjac Foods

Clinical studies specific to glucomannan supplementation have shown

positive results in the treatment of a number of conditions, including:

glucomannan group also repor ted reduced hunger. The reasons for this are simple: soluble fiber increases bulk, and slows food digestion.

Hyperglycemia and Hypoglycemia

Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Glucomannan can effectively inhibit the absorption of cholesterol and bile acid through lipolysis through the intestine, promote fat excretion, reduce the amount of fat and cholesterol in the blood, and reduce the amount of cholesterol and triglyceride in serum. It can also prevent high blood pressure, high lipids, and other cardiovascular diseases.

High Cholesterol

Weight Loss

The efficacy of konjac for weight loss relies on its ability to absorb up to twenty times its own weight in water. The glucomannan expands after ingestion, and this tends to promote a feeling of fullness as it travels through the digestive tract. Several glucomannan weight loss studies have produced impressive results. A 16 week study repor ted that glucomannan supplements can aid weight loss. At the end of the study, the glucomannan fibre group lost 4.52 kg compared to .79 kg on average in the control group. The

Diabetes

One benefit of the ability to regulate blood sugar levels is seen in Type 2 Diabetes. Konjac Glucomannan has shown potential to reduce blood glucose, insulin and serum lipid levels after meals, an effect that seems to be enhanced by glucomannan’s relatively high viscosity compared to other soluble fibres.

By attaching itself to bile acids in the digestive system and moving them out of the body, glucomannan supplements can help lower cholesterol and reduce the amount of fat present in the blood. In a placebo controlled study, cholesterol levels in men were reduced by a significant amount, and tryglycerides were reduced by 26%. This may be due to bile binding effects, or the fact that glucomannan fibre slows the absorption of these lipids in the intestines.

High Blood Pressure

As a corollary to glucomannan’s beneficial effect on cholesterol levels, one study has demonstrated a decrease in systolic blood pressure in healthy men after a four week course of glucomannan supplements.

Konjac Glucomannan attracts water in the digestive system and becomes a gel, slowing digestive processes and trapping carbohydrates so that blood sugar levels are stabilised.

Expressing the Real you to Heal In this current environment, social and work related anxiety is becoming more and more isolating and debilitating for people, creating many physical and mental health issues. Some of the best ways to overcome these anxieties is to find a way to connect deeply to one’s self and others. This is not always easy to do due to personal inabilities to express what is really being felt and self-judgment. Even if there is unease in expressing what you are feeling it may not always be your own, due to elements of suppression, transference or projection. I’m a believer that this happens from an over-acculturation existence, ongoing stressful environments or traumatic experiences. Such moments, affects us deeply at a neurological and sensory level, blocking growth, expression and causing feelings of numbness but also on a soul level it takes us away from our soul living. This tends to happen when we are no longer expressing from our essence and deep inner self. This is the part of us which makes us different to anybody else, it is our individuality or unique identity. I have a personal experience of this, whilst working for a long time in a heavily stressful business environment, which ended up taking me far away from some of my natural gifts and individual expression. I felt I had to suppress anything

that made me stand out from the crowd, sometimes including my laugh. Having said this I could only do this so much, as thankfully my personality only allows me to conform to a point. But even this amount of suppression and lack of true expression gave me a sense of not acknowledging myself or really being acknowledged for all my natural gifts. Which I believe, was an element in causing me various physical misalignments including stress, chest pains and vertigo. After this experience and walking through my own journey of healing these wounds, by connecting to my own personal expression through singing, words, jewelry making and art I firmly believe the process of creativity and expression not just healed but liberated me. One of the many challenges, which came to me during this period, was the impact of fear in taking action and building up conviction to believe that I was good enough to truly express my authenticity. The fear was very strong and it meant I had to in a way, look behind the layers of my beliefs, values and judgments to really review what my meaning and purpose was in life. Strangely this process led me back in full circle to around 12 years before hand, the feelings and emotions were the same, I new I was home in alignment again.

So what happened here? Expression takes all forms of communication through language, dance, voice, art, behaviour, emotions and biochemistry. It is an output, which forms expression and allows us to show what the individual is really feeling and thinking. The expression is what gave me a funnel through my layers to my essence, in a way giving me a tool to voice my unique self and to be really heard. When thinking of my own experience how did I manage the vulnerability of expressing my true self? I mainly did it through my instincts, having people around me, who made me feel comfortable to do so, and I guess feeling the pain and not dismissing it. Strangely as a part of this process to close the loop, my creative expression served as a place of protection for me in a strange way, particularly because this is where most of my vulnerability lied. By embracing my vulnerability I embraced my expression, which thus expressed my true potential and value. When embarking on a personal expression journey I would recommend

a few things to get the expression unlocked. Firstly, remember that the way you see the world is totally unique to you, no one else has a brain like yours or sees like you do. This is then the same for your true real expression, no one else will express quite like you and this is to be celebrated! Secondly, it’s okay to be silly, play, be a child this is a great process of releasing self-judgment and connecting to the core. And thirdly, when you express, you are expressing your own thoughts and feelings ... practice observing this, the more you observe your expression the more you will ensure it is your own. I work with people to help express and create, providing guidance intuition and nurturing to help themto connect to their essence to create and express more effectively. Love Your Life & Live It

Between Christmas and New Year I watched a young boy be taken away by police for selling drugs. For me it was a relief, it meant the last time I had to hear his voice as for over twelve months I have listened to domestic violence and gangster style garbage come out of his mouth and across to my building. With handcuffs behind his back it was the first time I saw this exhibitionist stand up straight. New Years Eve I looked across to the empty unit and realised something very impor tant, he had traded greed for freedom and would start the New Year behind bars. For a moment I felt sorry for him or was it pity that he couldn’t see his way clear of making something of himself and instead sold out for money. Happy New Year my vocal neighbourhood wannabe gangster, you just lost the most valuable asset to your life and that’s your freedom. Two weeks later

I saw his mum, leaving the building, I could see by her body language and her face the disappointment she felt, instead of grieving a loss she also suffered the embarrassment in her community of what her son had become. Interestingly enough my peace didn’t last long as now that position was vacant, I have new neighbours in my own building, the psychotic yelling at small children meant that the blood boiling feeling I was getting from the Jagermonster was now turned to the people I would have to listen to over the next 6 months of their lease, followed by another neighbour with the same psychotic sound in another adjacent building. The world is full of people that would love to have children, and yet the abuse by people that have them is disgusting. Not all people of course, but listen to your words and the sounds you make, look

The second yeller told her child that she had 2 weeks work to do and clearly this was more important than her child. I felt like going over to her building and taking her child from her and saying that clearly her work was more important so how about I hand your child over to family services while you think about your actions and how much more impor tant, your job is over your family. It reminded me of a builder I knew that worked consistently to build wealth for his family for early retirement. His wife didn’t want for anything as she had cleaners, cooks ... you name it she had it, but she didn’t have her husband. Every night he camehome, did his paperwork then went to bed. They were still young but they never went out as a couple. She would go out with her girlfriends and eventually she met someone else that paid her attention and she left him. These are three totally different sonarios that are true but also serve as a reminder to take stock and evaluate what’s important. Check on the work/life balance; remember that what you’re working towards might not be as important to your family as you are. Some of the things that we do, we think are of value but when we do a little time vs. money audit may find that the time, money and energy is better spent elsewhere. In a lot of cases this is easier said than done but being aware is a great start, it means that you won’t keep doing the things that effect your family or yourself creating a habit that can be destructive to your health and well being. My aunty died of cancer a few years ago leaving behind her husband, children and new grandchildren coming into the world. She was the same age as my mum. About the same time my step-dad fell of a roof he was fixing after a storm and was in hospital with broken ribs, all three were at retirement age. My mum told my dad while in hospital “that’s it, you are now retired”. Mum retired from a major department store she worked 21 years for. About 12 months later they discovered dad has Alzheimer’s. What I am putting to you is simple, life is short, sometimes shorter than others , it is for living not just existing. It is a gift to be shared, we are all so important, more important than an un-respecting employer, par tner, parent or aggressor, a vehicle, bank balance, a trinket or an opinion. We feel, we love, we work, and we retire. Our goals are in many forms. Our expectations hopefully no greater than what we would expect from ourselves. Our lives no more or less important than the next. So please love your life and live it. ELIXIR OF LIFE - An ORMUS Manifestation - Part 1

by Barry Carter © 2008 Soon after I learned to read in the late 1950s, I discovered comic books. My favourites were the comic books about superheroes like Superman, Green Lantern and Batman. In the early 1960s I began reading science fiction, with Rober t A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov as my favourite authors. When Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land appeared on my local library shelf in the mid-1960s, I was so fond of it that I read it a dozen times. The combination of psychic abilities and improved social interaction that it portrayed was very appealing to me as a young teen. In the late 1960s my favourite science fiction book became Dune, by Frank Herbert. I was very attracted to the idea that a substance (the "spice") could facilitate psychic communication and even play a role in teleportation for interstellar travel. Little did I know then that I would eventually manifest such a substance in my life. Throughout the 1970s I became more interested in "spiritual" teachings, such as the words of Edgar Cayce, Jane Rober ts/Seth and the lost gospels about Jesus. All of these teachings had a common thread: they taught that each of us is responsible for what happens to us in our own life. I think that Seth said it best: "You create your own reality." When I first read that in 1974, I wondered about what kind of reality I might like to experience and how it might manifest. In the 1980s I became very familiar with concepts such as the limits of growth, global warming, peak oil and the dominance of structures in our world. In the late 1980s and most of the 1990s I worked as an environmentalist and forest activist. In all of these things I became very aware of the contrast of what was out there in the world, and this stimulated my desire to see more cooperation and connection among people. Many of the problems that we deal with in the world can be traced to the structures that we have created and empowered to act on our behalf. We create these structures, empower them and then they take on a life of their own. The structures we created become our masters instead of our servants as we originally intended.

Jim's experiences with toxic metals

In the mid-1970s I met an inventor named Jim. In the mid-1980s I worked with him, helping him to build and market his super ozone generator. In 1987 I began to encourage Jim to use the ozone from this generator to help clean up various types of toxic waste that I was encountering as an environmental activist. In 1989 Jim began using his ozone generator to help clean up the toxic waste water from a gold mine in eastern Oregon. While using his generator on this waste water, he noticed that some very unusual things were happening. He would get a "snot-like" substance in the settling tank that would "disappear in a flash of light" if it was dried out in the sunlight and would fly away from his hands if he dried it in the dark. Because of these properties, he called the dry powder "fly ash". One time he even noticed that a puddle of "water" that appeared under the settling tank would move toward the nearest person. You can read the transcript of an interview that I conducted with Jim about these events at http://www.subtleenergies.com/ormus/tw/jimstory.htm. After Jim had been working on the mine waste clean-up for several weeks, he accidentally got some of the ozone-activated waste water on his hands and experienced a serious reaction. He got a shock from the water and let go of the leaking fitting that he was trying to reseal. When he opened his fingers, fibres of gold came out the back of his hands. For several weeks after this event, he would generate a spark every time he touched anything. Soon after the accident, he started feeling very sick and went to a doctor. The doctor did some tests and told Jim that he had four times the lethal levels of lead and arsenic in his blood. But Jim did not die in two weeks as his doctor had predicted. Instead, he began sleeping for 20 or more hours a day for the next 18 months. Toward the end of that time, he was tested by another doctor who said that he had twice the lethal levels of lead and arsenic in his blood; this was a remarkable improvement. While this was happening to Jim, I lost contact with him. I was still trying

to promote the use of his ozone technology to clean up toxic waste but, every time I called, the folks he was staying with would tell me that he was sleeping and could not be disturbed. I think what they really meant was that he could not be awakened. Eventually I did reach him, and he told me about his condition resulting from the toxic levels of metal in his body. My mom owned a health food store, so I went there and asked her about what might help a body eliminate toxic metals. She suggested a booklet by Dr Kurt W. Donsbach titled Hydrogen Peroxide, which described how to use peroxide to help the body to eliminate lead and arsenic, to chelate them out. So I bought the book and some of the 35% hydrogen peroxide recommended in it, and took them to Jim. He took it home and at first drank just a couple of drops in a glass of water. He got really sick and vomited, but the next day he felt better so he did it again. Every day he'd feel a little less sick after drinking a few drops of the hydrogen peroxide in water, and the next day he'd feel better. I interviewed Jim on tape in 1995. Here is his description of some of the changes after he started with the peroxide: "I got rid of the background hallucination, that blue, bluish purple, blue light, like in one or two doses. It made me so sick the first time... that I felt like I was going to die. Very, very nauseous, disoriented, etcetera, etcetera. My urine was literally a dark, dark, dark, dark, dark, dark brown; reddish. More red than...but I did not feel well. "I still saw colour until I star ted taking hydrogen peroxide, and it all quit like that. About three doses of hydrogen peroxide and I quit seeing colour and I quit hearing audio hallucinations." After a few weeks of the peroxide, he was feeling good enough that he decided to have another check-up. This time the doctor said: "There's nothing wrong with you. No lead and arsenic. Normal levels. You're fine. No problem. What were we concerned about?" In the interview Jim said that after two weeks of taking the hydrogen peroxide, the toxic metals in his blood

went from twice the lethal levels to "very, very low levels". But something kept Jim alive during those 18 months. Something reduced the toxic metals from four times to only twice the lethal levels. What was it? I didn't know what it was. Jim didn't know what it was. No one seemed to know. It was mysterious. It was scary because something (probably the lead and the arsenic) was nearly killing him. He was getting sicker and sicker, and then he started to get well for mysterious reasons that no one could understand. During the period when he was sleeping all the time, he was practically incoherent; you couldn't talk to him. He was somewhere else. He later said: "I don't know where I was, but I was not here." Jim told me more of his story after he took the peroxide. This was the most incredible story I had ever heard in my life. I witnessed some of the things myself before he got his hands in the mine waste water and got "nuked", as he called it. I saw the gold fibres from the back of his hands, but he told me most of the story somewhat later. It struck me that this miracle stuff was like the "spice" I had read about in Frank Herber t's book Dune as a youth. This stuff seemed to do everything: it floated away; it disappeared in a flash of light; it even caused Jim to become a great generator of static electricity! Something about it kept Jim alive when he should have died. After he told me the whole story in 1991, I often said: "Jim, let's look into this." He would say: "No, I don't want to have anything to do with it. It's awful." I wanted to explore this magical stuff further, but Jim would not cooperate.

David Hudson's ORMEs

I did get Jim to tell his story to a couple of friends, and one of them contacted me in 1995 to tell me about a gentleman named David Hudson who also had a substance that disappeared in a flash of light and would float away from your hands if you reached for it. I immediately contacted Jim and told him about the magical materials that David Hudson called "ORMEs" (Orbitally Rearranged Monatomic Elements). This intrigued Jim, and

fortunately we both got to go to David Hudson's 1995 Por tland, Oregon, lecture and even got to shake Hudson's hand. But we decided not to tell him about Jim's experiences because we felt that it would be better if all of the ORME eggs were not in the same basket. This looked like a technology that might be quite threatening to existing structures. Hudson's method for making ORMEs was quite difficult and involved. I knew that these substances might never come into widespread use if we did not find some easier ways to obtain them. Once he understood a bit more about the nature of the ORME materials, Jim was no longer afraid of them and he decided to experiment with the use of ozone to make them from metal. Jim's ozone method worked quite well, but it was also difficult and required his proprietary ozone generator to work at all. We clearly needed some simple methods for obtaining ORMEs that anyone could use. In order to get more people aware of these materials, I transcribed David Hudson's Portland lecture and got it up on the Internet in February 1996. This was soon followed by the transcripts of a couple of other lectures that others helped to transcribe. The WhiteGold Internet forum was also started in February 1996 by several people who had been to Hudson's lecture in Tampa, Florida. I was one of the original members of this forum and currently am its moderator. In his lectures, David Hudson mentioned many ancient references that he felt might be related to the substances he had been working with: the biblical manna, the Philosopher's Stone, the Fountain of Youth, orgone energy, prana, ch'i, the Holy Grail, the Great Pyramid and the Ark of the Covenant are a few of these. Though David Hudson called these materials ORMEs, I prefer to call this form of matter "ORMUS" because we are not sure that the materials are really monatomic. The term "ORMUS" also has a rich history that is quite compatible with these substances. Look out for part 2 next issue. fumbled and dropped something and then noticed a chain reaction of clumsiness around you? You will feel as though you are in a Mr Bean episode when your aura is this way.

When the static state strikes you, try the following:

Not Glowing? 3 Signs your Aura is Blocked

by Rachelle Terry

“So how have you been?!” I ask as I greet my friends or clients. “You tell me!” they joke, pointing to their auras. They do have a fair point. I could tell them how they are feeling and what changes have occurred by observing the shifts in their energy field however it seems more polite to ask. In fact, seeing your aura means that it is not only possible to identify colours which define personalities, moods etc., but it also enables me to identify the “marks” your experiences have left on you. Your internal responses to your environment, relationships and life events will affect how your energies appear and function. A trauma or unpleasant experience may cause your energies to contract. Being centered, spiritually aligned and operating from your higher truth will lead to expansion of your aura.

Three of the most common glitches in auras

1. Fading If you feel burnt out, exhausted or have a sense of not belonging, it is most likely your colours are not at their brightest. I have noticed a common pattern of faded aura colours in women who have sacrificed their needs for many

years while raising children. Fading of the aura colours can also happen with redundancies - both literal and figurative, where a person no longer feels wanted. It is as if the soul retreats, believing it is not needed on the planet. In the long term this reduction in life force can reduce energy levels and result in more serious health issues. Once I have worked with these clients on finding their true self, purpose and passions again, their colours and radiance return. If you can identify with the faded state, the following will help: • Write down a list of your passions. • Be aware of where you are sacrificing identity or needs and establish healthy boundaries. • Ask yourself daily: ‘What would I be doing right now if I were fulfilling my life purpose?’. 2. Static Disturbance Static interference in your aura results from and creates the energetic equivalent of a “bad hair day”. Static appears in the aura where there is chaos, confusion, anxiety and stress. Disconnected feelings, frustrations and even clumsiness are frequent outcomes of this state. If you are in a static state your field may well affect others. Have you

• Meditation, alternate nostril breathing or refocusing techniques. These can shift auric static quite quickly. • Identify any internal dilemmas or conflicts and write them down to reduce their charge and attain clarity. 3. Contracting If you feel as though you are in survival mode and don’t feel that you are thriving, it is possible that your aura is contracting rather than radiating outward. A contracted aura is unable to attract positive circumstances, people or oppor tunities because it is resonating with fear-based, survival states. The good news is that most of the time it is the fear rather than the object of fear, which is causing the contraction. Once the fear has been acknowledged and processed, it is possible to move into an expansive, thriving state again. If your energies are contracted, the following will assist you in expanding your field: • Develop a spiritual practice. • Identify what you are avoiding through fear. • Work on adopting an attitude of trust. Remember, your colours are at their brightest and clearest when you feel healthy, connected to your Divine source (whatever you perceive that to be) and aligned to your heart. The more in tune you are with your energy states, the quicker you will be able to make corrections, and experience what it is like to be a better version of you! Flowing Chi with Simon Blow

Nothingness is the Best Prescription Guigen is a Chinese ter m which translates to returning to the root or source, returning to the primordial energy from which everything emerges. Guigen Qigong is a Medical style of Qigong developed by Dr Xu Hongtao a specialist doctor from the Qigong depar tment at the Xiyuan Hospital in Beijing. The six sections of the dynamic Guigen Qigong are followed by the stillness meditation section helping to restore natural harmony and improve the human race’s quality of life. These self healing techniques are prescribed to both in and out-patients at the Xiyuan Hospital as a par t of their therapy. I first met Dr Xu while I was leading a study group to China in September 2002. Our group made an official visit to the Xiyuan Hospital, a large Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital with over 650 beds, treating over 2,000 outpatients each day in various departments. We spent an afternoon with Dr Xu in the Qigong department after touring the hospital. Dr Xu had a very friendly, approachable, relaxed manner about him as we discussed many ideas regarding Qigong, health and spirituality. He talked about the importance of meditation. When we enter a “realized

state”, or the state of nothingness, there is no disease or illness, only nothingness, he explained. The regular practice of meditation will change the energy in our body and mind, helping to cure disease and improve our quality of life. This concept was of great interest to me! From his own research and experience working in this department for over 20 years, Dr Xu has developed Guigen Qigong, its six different sections harmonise the different organ meridians in the body. Although our time with Dr Xu was only brief, he kindly taught us the movement “Stimulating the Water Element” for the kidney and bladder channels. As we left, I told him I would love to return and study more with him, and he gave me an encouraging look and nodded. When I returned home to Sydney, I had an email from Dr Xu. He had been looking at my website and congratulated me on the work I’ve been doing to spread the healing benefits of Qigong in Australia and invited me to study with him at the hospital. We corresponded regularly by email for a few years until I worked out an appropriate time to take a break from my busy teaching schedule and return to Beijing.

I was attending a World Medical Qigong Conference in Beijing in May 2004 and arranged to spend time with Dr Xu on the same trip. He explained that he could either teach me privately at my hotel outside of his working hours at the hospital, or officially at the hospital. However, to be accepted into the hospital for clinical practice, I would need to be a doctor or have some formal qualifications in TCM, and as I don’t, he checked with the directors of the hospital. They asked me to submit an account of my training and teaching experience in Qigong. I wrote a brief, 8-page history of my professional background – which you can find on my website – and sent it off to Dr Xu along with my two Qigong DVDs, the Art of Life and Absorbing the Essence. A short time later, he was pleased to inform me that my submission had been accepted. The World Academic Society of Medical Qigong (WASMQ) had organised the conference I was attending. I had been to one of their previous conferences in Beijing in August 1998 and had become a member. The Chinese Government officially recognises the WASMQ and its importance as an association to help foster the development of Medical Qigong and the international exchange of academic research and training. For the first time, I was presenting a paper which was to be on the work that I had been doing at teaching Qigong at Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centres in Sydney over the previous 12. My talk was a great success and I felt quite honored that I could mix with many high level professors, doctors and Continued on page 34

Uluru - The New Dawn 2012

by Jessica Dao

Watching the sunrise at Uluru on the New Year of 2012 was an experience of a lifetime. As the sun rose, revealing a glowing golden orange and purple landmark, a gem sitting graciously on the silent desert where time and space stand still. What is this landmark? Why had many crossed the vast land and oceans to arrive here? To some, it is an incredible huge rock; one of the oldest “monolithic” natural structure on earth. It reflects the shifting sunlight thus changes colour from dawn to dust. It is a magnificent landmark which stimulates our imagination and our appreciation for Mother Nature. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, Uluru is the most recognized Australian landmark and the Heart of Australia. To the indigenous Australians, Uluru is a gateway to the dream world, a place where ancestral spirits dwell... For many spiritual seekers, Uluru is a sacred site. It is a “Stellar Gateway” connecting the ear th to the cosmos. The cosmos energy is channelled to the entire earth through this portal then through a network of energy grids and portals including the Great Pyramid, Stonehenge, Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu. The year 2012 is the time of the great shift when an abundance of cosmos energy is being channelled into the ear th. The White Cosmos Light contains all colour spectrums, that of the rainbow. Many authors describe the new children as Indigo, Crystal and Rainbow Children. The newest, the Rainbow Children, are born with the highest level of spiritual development. They are at the cosmos consciousness hence the relationship to the Rainbow energy. As a Stellar Gateway, Uluru channels the rainbow light to the planet thus preparing humanity for the great shift in consciousness, soul evolution and spiritual enlightenment. It is indeed a sacred site which has been guarded for eons by the spirits of Aboriginal custodian of the land. On the New Dawn of 2012, the energy at Uluru was blissful; a sense of immense peace, serenity and tranquillity. When visiting Uluru, you might see “just a huge bare rock”, a lion resting, a light portal or the rainbow light. Why not take a moment to sit in silence? Feel the energy and the texture of the air. Listen to the birds, the sound of running water at the sacred waterhole and the whispering winds. Bathe in the timelessness! You might feel or see the spirits of the land. The angels might gather and take you to other sacred sites or be transpor ted to other dimensions. You might be drifting in space where time is frozen. Just simply enjoy

the moment and the experience of a lifetime! Please respect the site and the Aboriginal culture by asking the custodian spirits of the land for the permission of your visit. To do this, find a quiet place where you can still your mind and simply ask! While you are at the site, please refrain from climbing the sacred monument. You might wish to assist spiritually in healing the land and raise our consciousness by setting the intention to receive and anchor the Rainbow Light into Mother Earth and channelling it to her inhabitants. Most importantly, “leave only the footprint and take only the memories”. The site is protected by the spirits of Aboriginal custodian thus “no rock or pebble is to be removed from the site”. Navigate the Shift by Living in Greatness

Imagine living a life of greatness? Imagine living a life on purpose, knowing without a doubt that you are being carried in the safety of the flow of life, witnessing more and more the abundance of miracles abound, feeling the hope and passion that inspires you to be the best you can be. This can be yours, even in the face of these uncertain times. The bar has been raised and now is the time to step up and live your greatness. To navigate the shift more easily you need to recognise first and foremost that you are not your story, you are not your past, its time is done and nothing, nothing at all has any meaning other than the meaning you give it. So choose to see everything for the blessing that it really is, simply an opportunity for you to learn and grow. Now more than ever, as you experience the roller coaster of emotions during this shift it’s up to you to decide how long you stay in the lows if at all. I’d much rather you acknowledge your wor thiness of greatness, to know without a doubt that living in greatness doesn’t come in a stroke of luck but rather greatness comes by making a choice, a choice to be and live the best you can be in each and every moment. Yes it’s true that your past experiences have contributed to creating who you are today but that doesn’t create your tomorrow…it’s what you do today, in this very moment that creates the next moment and therefore your tomorrow. You can choose to live a life of greatness right now! Living in greatness or living your purpose doesn’t necessarily mean that it must be something of grandeur on the physical plane. Your greatness is measured by how you feel, the hearts you touch and the consciousness you contribute to. Whatever you do, wherever you

are right now is where you are meant to be, according to your past choices and the incredible self-organising and self-correcting intelligence of the universe. Right here right now, is all you have and all that matters. So what are you going to do with it? Do you choose feelings of sadness, turmoil, and anxiety or do you choose to stand tall, to live your inner- most truth, speak your truth and be who you are in your highest truth? The humbling speech below given by Martin Luther King III at Michael Jackson’s funeral serves as a great reminder that your purpose, living in greatness has nothing to do with what you are doing but rather who you are being in the doing. “My father once said that in life one must discover what their calling is and when they do they must do their jobs so well that the living, the dead and the unborn could do them no better. He constantly guided us to become our best by stating that if you cannot be a pine on the top of the hill don’t just be a shrub in the valley, but be the best little shrub on the side of the road. Be a bush if you cannot be a tree. If you cannot be the highway just be a trail. If you cannot be the sun, just be a star. For it isn’t by size that

you win or you fail, you got to be the best at what you are. Finally Martin Luther King Jr. said that in life if it falls to you to be a street sweeper you must sweep streets so well. In fact you must sweep streets like Beethoven composed music. Sweep streets he said, like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets like Raphael painted pictures. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of the heavens and earths would have to pause and say, here lived the greatest street sweeper that did his house well”. Choose to live in greatness every moment of every day and leave every place better than it was when you arrived. Every person, place and event right now serves as a window of opportunity to raise the consciousness

of all and elevate humanity into an incredible place. Surrender to the higher power, let go and allow yourself to be guided daily. You are here right now because this is where you are meant to be, here to be a part of, to witness and to co-create in the writing of our history…there is no greater purpose than being the best you can be and living in greatness for all of us. YOU ARE TRULY A STAR Ask any psychic, psychologist or counsellor about the most common concerns many of their clients have, and its relationship issues – especially past and present love relationships. For psychics of course many questions involve a possible future relationship and I love to predict a wonderful new lover coming for clients but sometimes my crystal ball just doesn’t show this happening or I really can’t see the relationship in question bringing great fulfilment in the future. In these cases it’s necessary to say what I see but I like to also look deeper to see what is the cause of this situation, plus if it can be changed.

Letting go of the “Perfect Image”

by Nicola Phoenix

Letting Go of the Perfect Image: What Will the Neighbours Think?

Feeling accepted seems to feature so highly in our lives. We set such great store by how others perceive us. We often want to control what they think and to portray ourselves as perfect and in control. Maybe right now you are doing this, even amongst people you would count as close acquaintances. Do you let them see the real you?

Being Real: Believing You’re a Fraud Because You’re Not Perfect?

I have worked with truly talented and successful people, and so many times they have told me that one day people will find out that they really are a fraud because they aren’t good enough. They believe they are fooling everyone into thinking they are good at what they do. They try and control other people’s view of them by going that extra mile, even helping others to their own detriment. So often they never let down their guard and show their true emotions, even when the situation allows them to be relaxed, vulnerable, heard and supported. What are they trying to prove? That they are perfect. And why? Because they don’t believe they are perfect.

Being Happy: Hiding the Real You for Fear of Being Criticized?

So often, people feel that if they show their real self or true feelings they will be criticized by others. If we aren’t feeling good about ourselves and are therefore judging ourselves very harshly, then of course we are going to presume everyone is doing the same. But they are not. And no matter what we do or say, we are unable to control what people think and feel about us anyway. If you feel that you are trying to live up to some unrealistic expectations that you have created for yourself, just take a break and give yourself permission to show people, little by little, the real you. And then you can relax

and feel happier. It takes much more effort to hold yourself in a restricted role than just to be yourself.

The Perfect Image: Acting How You Think Others Want You To Act

So often we are brought up to do the “right” or even “expected” thing that we grow up with the idea that acting in a certain way will result in others viewing us as a good person. Society as a whole can also be an influencing factor. We can feel that following trends or buying into a set of values set by someone else can bring us happiness. But this can ultimately only lead to pain and disappointment. Don’t let yourself be swept away by an unachievable illusion that can tie you into a lifetime’s struggle. Wouldn’t it be better to feel great with who you are and what you have in the now?

Being Real, Being Happy: Letting go of the “Perfect Image”

None of us need keep up a perfect image any longer. It doesn’t serve us in reclaiming true happiness. It also binds us to the illusions and often rigid patterns in life that we have created in order to feel OK. So the anxiety about being found out can go. We have nothing to hide. We can relax and focus on creating an authentic new life for ourselves knowing that we are good enough. KARMIC RELATIONSHPS

Most people we meet that we are strongly drawn to being with - to regardless of whether it’s wise or not- we have shared a past life with. That inner remembering of a past life relationship seems to often draw people magnetically together and they then often feel almost compelled to maintain the relationship. That’s often fine of course but if these people seek psychic guidance about the future of this relationship then examining the past lives the couple spent together can be very enlightening. Past life readings (or in some cases past life spiritual journeys) often show the couple experiencing many difficult past lives together – often with traumatic and painful endings for one or both of the partners. Abandoning your lover in a past life for whatever reason seems to set the stage for you being over-protective in this life regardless of the reason for doing this before e.g. a soldier needing to go off to war and never returning to his wife and children in the 18th century sets the stage for fear of abandonment again in this life. Violence and arguments seen time and time again in many past lives together tends to be reflected in this current life time by many insecurities and vague fears of history repeating itself.

SOUL MATES & SOUL FAMILY

I do believe we reincarnate with members of our Soul Family many times BUT because we knew each other before in past lives, or were even married in the past, it doesn’t mean we need to be together in this life time. In general many Soul Mates are meant to be recognised as such but NOT married to each other! The more lives together the more difficult the Karma seems to be often I find... so please reconsider that relationship and clear your karma first before you create any more. K ar mic Release is a process whereby you acknowledge you have had past lives together or are carrying burdens from other similar relationships and ask the Karmic Angels or Egyptian Divinities such as Goddess Maat and Isis to clear these past life energy blockages from your mind, auric field and Akashic Records. Everything you ever did in any life on earth, including this one, is recorded in the Akashic Records and these records can be accessed and read plus

Absolute Soul Secrets

cleared if needed. The Archangel Metatron and the Egyptian Divinity Thoth are both Keepers of the Akashic Records and can be consulted in deep meditation, past life journeys or by some psychics.

MEET YOUR *STAR* SOULMATE

Yes, sometimes we really do have wonderful experiences together in past lives and agree to meet up to do it all again in this one! In my experience these evolved souls have first met long ago in very early Atlantis or Lemuria and agreed on the numbers of lives they would like to share together and then at this particular time on earth they agreed they would have one more final life together. These relationships usually seem smooth from the very beginning with the couple often having met in an auspicious situation e.g. at a spiritual seminar or in a group devoted to aware living. These couples do feel very drawn to be together but are very mindful of the needs of each other and a quick check of their Akashic Records reveals more positive past lives than difficult ones. To draw your Star Soul Mate to you I don’t suggest you use magic spells, Vision Boards or written lists of your “Perfect Partner”....mainly because people often leave off a few essential attributes resulting in considerable pain and stress. Meditation and visualisation is the key to success here plus calling upon the Archangels and Goddesses to assist you to find that perfect partner – Haniel and Hathor are a wonderful combination for this. Your Soul Star Chakra is located above the crown chakra of your head

and its function is to assist you with your Soul Purpose in this life plus to magnetise your true Star Soul Mate to you as well. The best path to true love with another is to love YOURSELF first too...or at least to allow yourself a sense of compassion for the all times before you were ever aware that you are truly a Star in a great ongoing drama here on Earth School. Types of Psychic Abilities

Clairvoyance

A person with this type of ability can see things not apparent to others, like receiving a vision of events or a visual impression about a person. This ability is often combined with others and is the most common.

Clairsentience

This is the ability to receive impression that are more feeling in nature. Psychics associated with this ability are called empaths because they can feel the emotions of others.

Clairaudience

This is the ability to hear things that are outside the nor mal hearing range. This can be persons who have passed on or a spirit guide. A famous Clairaudient is John Edwards.

Telekinesis (or Psychokinesis)

This is the ability to move objects without physical intervention. This is a very rare ability and even the greats of this ability are questioned in terms of authenticity. One of those

people is Uri Geller, a world renowned spoon bender. To the disbelief of skeptics though, he's shown that he can bend metal objects, such as spoons and forks, from great distances and in several locations. And even more strange, is that people who are near him or can hear him while he does his bending can have this ability temporarily.

Psychometry

This is the technique used by psychics by which they pick up energy patterns from a physical object. We have our own electromagnetic properties and can leave these impressions, like fingerprints, on objects. A psychic using this technique will have subtle enough sensitivity to pick up those energy fields. This is why psychics like to use objects that were a "favorite" of the person in question, like a hat, ring, or something that only they generally touched. When other people touch objects, they too leave behind their energy imprint which can dilute the reading. Another example of psychometry are people who use

Tarot cards or other tools of divination. They place their hands on the cards, and let the subconscious mind send energy signals back through the hand. This is not to be confused with electrokinesis which is the ability to produce and expel electricity from our own body.

Remote Viewing

This is the ability to see, hear or feel target locations unknown to the viewer. This was established by the military and they wished to differentiate it from the label of 'psychic' because it followed strict protocols and the target was often blind (meaning unknown). It can involve all of the psychic senses and is associated with the term bi-location which means the viewer can actually experience a hyper reality, as if they were there on location with the target. Some advanced viewers have even claimed that they can interact with the target, such as swimming in a lake, having a conversation with a person (dead or alive) and so on.

Your Ascension with Ohlara

Measuring Conscious Evolution - part 1. Jumping off the Wheel Of Karma

Have you ever wondered how far along your personal evolution path you are? You’ve attended all those meditation & yoga classes, spiritual retreats, healing courses and personal development programs but feel like you’re going back over the same old stuff time and time again. Sometimes it feels like you’ve tried your hardest to move forward, followed the guidance and advice of teachers and healers, so you may ask yourself, Why do I continue to repeat those same old lessons? Wouldn’t it be great if there was something that could measure how far you have come, exactly where you are, and where that core problem resides is so you could finally sort it out and move on. I have some great news for you, there is. Over the next issues, I am going to share information about how I came across a map of personal evolution. It’s so easy nearly anyone can learn how to do this, simply by learning to develop your intuition, with “non-attachment”. What I’m actually talking about here is measuring ascension or I like to call it conscious

ascension, because that’s what it really is. I’m going to share with you and show you what I have learnt from developing a new energy healing system over the past 16 years. The universe is not at all chaos, there is a map, we are all connected and there is a defined process of personal evolution available to us all.

The Past

Humanity’s evolution has been constant in many areas since ancient times. However, this has not always been in the direction that supports the ear th mother and the evolving spiritual needs of human evolution. In ancient civilizations of Lemuria and Atlantis higher states of consciousness were available to all as humans were aligned with the cosmos and the earth mother through daily, planetary and seasonal ritual. Ancient tribal cultures like the Maya have continued with their time honored traditions. Until today evidence of the Mayan evolutionary processes and wisdom of the ages has been kept with Shamans and Tribal elders. The continual connection to the ear th mother and the cosmos has been a par t of the spiritual con-

sciousness of all who chose to evolve through the 3rd dimension and experience both limitation and expansion on their soul journey. At this time in earth’s spiritual history and, since 1987, there has been an accelerated growth in what we call ‘The Awakening’, for all souls residing on earth. This is a time of great opportunity, transformation and evolution, which allows the human soul to evolve beyond 3rd dimensional limitations in which we have existed for many thousands of years. An energetic opening and ongoing alignment has been occurring since 1987, which has been documented in Mayan wisdom teachings, many tribal cultural teachings as well as spiritual doctrines and many channelings. Until recently, in humanities evolutionary journey, higher evolution was reserved for the select few. Only individuals who underwent special initiation processes and training were chosen to follow the path of shaman, elder, priest, priestess healer or ascended master. Higher consciousness has always been available, but only for those initiated into esoteric, shamanic or mystery school teachings. This op-

www.innerself.com.au

por tunity has therefore been limited to few individuals who walked the planet. They have been known as the Masters. You may be familiar with Masters known as Buddha, St Germaine, Jesus and Mother Mary. Depending on your spiritual background, there have been many teachers who have come forth to guide and support humanity’s spiritual evolution. As we are on the doorstep awaiting the 2012 door to open wide, the opportunity to transcend 3rd dimensional limitations is now available for all of us. The Ascended Master Kuthumi in a channeling once said “If you want to be a chosen one, simply choose yourself.”

Activation of Conscious Evolution

During a spiritual activation event in 1987 (in what is called the harmonic convergence) I conceived my 1st daughter, she was born Friday, May 13th, 1988, just before midnight. The harmonic convergence was noted in the 1st half of August 1987. My life journey to receive this information started earlier, but the conception and birth of my daughter was the real beginning of my conscious awakening or conscious evolution journey. During the pregnancy, birth and following years, I studied with a powerful magician, shaman and raja yogi who greatly accelerated my evolutionary understanding of all energy and the cosmos. The harmonic convergence and conception energy (opening to source) was the opening I needed to access higher consciousness.

Karma and Death

My initial activation for this body of knowledge was a near death experience I had at 19 years of age. In June1980 I had a motorbike accident on the Greek Island of Corfu. It was during this time that I decided to leave my body and life behind as the pain and suffering I was experiencing was too much to bear. Deep inside I knew I must have done something really bad to have to go through such pain and suffering. This was an accelerated lesson for me surrounding karma. I felt like I was taking on the karmic pain of the world. During my ascent, I connected with 12 light beings. They appeared like a council in robes of light, sitting in a semi circle. I stood in front of them and had a detailed conversation about the choices I had in front of me. 1. To leave my body and this life and return to source. 2. To return to my body and life, and be called to be of service at a later time. Well I obviously took number 2. Returned to my body, refused all pain relief and my wounds healed amazingly rapidly. My mind was focused to return home and be with my loved ones. I had amazing strength; my emotions and mind greatly accelerated my healing. I learn t so much about healing and the power of emotion and the mind during this time preparing me for a life as a healer and channel. Eye on the Sky with Claire Hennekam, Astrologist

Astrology for April-June 2012 We always knew that 2012 was going to be a big year and the astrological climate is not going to disappoint. We are entering a particularly potent few months, with the cosmic climax arriving in June when we have the Venus occultation, followed by two major squares just after the winter solstice. It’s an exciting, revolutionary time, but the seat belt signs remain on as we continue our ascent.

“Talkin’‘Bout A Revolution” – Venus Occultation, June 6th 2012

On June 8th, 2004, we experienced the first of a precious pairing – an event in the sky that would be repeated eight years later, almost to the day, and then not again for 105 years. Known formally as a Transit of Venus, or commonly in astrology as a Venus Occultation, this event takes place when Venus passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, making Venus visible as a dark sphere against the background of the Sun for several hours. Most often (but not always), this event occurs twice, eight years apart, once every 105-120 years. The last time we saw this pairing was in 1874 and 1882. This was a time of “electrical revolution”, which quickly led to the invention of the telephone, light bulb and recording equipment. The Theosophical Society, Christian Science movement and Salvation Army were all founded during this time. Over a century before this, the pairing in 1761 and 1769 was witness to successes in military operations and geographic exploration, as well as the industrial revolution. Between 1631 and 1639, the world was changing with respect to science, philosophy and religion – something of a “thought revolution”, helped in no small part by Galileo and Descartes. In 2004, a few months before the first of the current transit pairing, Facebook was born. It now has over 800 million users and has been joined by Twitter, Tumblr and a multitude of other social networking sites. The ability to use this online “social revolution” to fuel a grass-roots campaign – or even a political uprising – has been clearly demonstrated around the world in recent months. If the recent overnight success of the “Kony2012” public awareness campaignis anything to go by, the power of this new revolution has yet to be fully realised or harnessed, but it surely won’t be long before it is. In her most highly evolved state, Venus also represents the Divine Feminine. Never in modern history have we been in a better position to capitalise on the energy of a transit this potent for the purpose of bring-

ing the Divine Feminine back into balance with the Divine Masculine. So discovery, invention, revolution and rebalance are the gifts Venus brings to us this year.

“It’s Hip to be Square” – Uranus and Pluto square off a day before Neptune and Jupiter do the same!

Last quarter I wrote about the Uranus-Pluto square that is likely to dominate the sky (and thus, most astrology columns) for the next three years. This quar ter marks the first exact square, which happens on 24th June. But there’s no rest for the astrowatchers, because the very next day, Jupiter sneaks in and forms an exact square with Neptune. So if Uranus and Pluto are all about social change and revolution (is there a theme here?), Jupiter and Neptune squaring off could pose some substantial counter-revolutionary action or even fanaticism. More personally, it would be easy at this time to drift off, to leave reality to the suckers and find a way - any way - to be in a more blissful state of illusion and ignorance. A more constructive use of the energy would be to explore creative pursuits, but be gentle – the hard square might make it difficult for the ideas to flow. They’re there of course, you know that, but you may need to back off to let them find their way around the corner.

Dates to watch this quarter 11th April

Pluto goes retrograde, giving those willing to do some deep, inner work, a valuable opportunity, and anyone unwilling to look within, more than a bit of grief! For those in the latter category, Mars going direct 3 days later should speeds things up a bit and take some of the pressure off.

16th May

Preparing for her big day, Venus goes retrograde – it’s time to get real about the feminine aspects of ourselves. Are we respecting our Divine

6th June

Venus Occulation. It will be visible in Australia (par ticularly on the east coast) and felt globally.

24th June

Three days after winter solstice comes the first exact square of Uranus and Pluto. Embrace any chaos that might erupt and make use of the vibrant energy that will be unleashed!

25th June

The following day, Jupiter squares Neptune, while Saturn goes direct. After the excitement of the day before, it’s a good day to ground and to gently explore creative and intuitive paths.

28th June

Venus goes direct again, re-emerging into the world, so to speak, following a big month. It’s a good time to consider doing the same. How To Gain Clarity

Clearing Out Your Mind and Your Unconscious by Daphne Rose Kingma You can find clarity for yourself by doing the following simple process. On a clean piece of paper, pose a question about which you seek clarity in your life. For example, you might ask “What is standing between me and finding my true love?” Or “Why is it so difficult for me to find my life’s work?” Then, very quickly, without thinking, write the first five answers that come to mind, no matter how ridiculous they might seem. Put the paper away and don’t think about it for a while. The next day or several days later, ask five people you know to respond to the question you have posed to yourself. “Rob, why do you think it’s so hard for me to fall in love?” “Jan, why do you think I don’t have a boyfriend?” Collect the answers and write them down on a second piece of paper.

Seek and Ye Shall Find: The Answer Is Already Here

When you’ve heard from everyone you have queried, compare your own off-the-cuff, instinctual answers with theirs. You’ll be surprised at how they intersect. Somewhere inside yourself, you’re already clear about the question you think is still baffling you, and you’ll be amazed to see that your friends’ and strangers’ opinions will remarkably converge with some of your own points. Whether or not you are gifted with

an opportunity to acquire clarity of consciousness from a clearness committee or you gain it on your own, attaining it is of the greatest importance. When your issue is loving yourself, this clearing provides the space for you to move from an old to a new way of viewing yourself, from a negative to a positive self-concept. Changing the World, One person at a Time

I’m here with some good news. You are powerful, and you can make a difference in our world! Have you noticed that much of the world media is focused primarily upon the negative, and it builds a vibration of fear and uncertainty around our futures? Many of us are reeling under the constant barrage of bad news, and the latest market crash, tragedy or monstrous act of violence. It is easy to feel that we are insignificant in the scheme of things. But this is not the case. Many people have changed the world through their thoughts and actions. And you too can play a part in lifting the vibration of our world to a place of Harmony and Peace. At the core of our distress is always lack of Love. When we live from our Hearts, violence against each other and senseless acts of greed and inhumanity within our communities and environment dissolve. Why? These are not products of the Heart, but of the Mind. They arise from our sense of disconnectedness from ourselves, our families, our communities, our environment and God/Source Energy. So what can you do? Firstly, focus on all that IS good in your life and in the world, no matter how small that detail may be. Do not give your attention to the bad news around you, and the unwanted things in your life. Focus purely on what is going well, and what makes you feel good. When you pray or meditate, bring that beautiful Divine Love and Light into your body and heart. Fill yourself up, and allow the Love and Light to continue to flow through you and to the people around you. Picture people and situations, and send healing energy and Love to them. Surround them in white Light and wish them only Love and Good, no matter who they are or what their actions might have been. See people and situations only as you wish them to be – full of harmony, wellness, love, creativity, joy and peace. Don’t dwell on negativity – always choose Light. Choose forgiveness of yourself and others Within your immediate circle practice acts of love, kindness and compassion. Move outside your own needs, and begin to understand and reach out to meet the needs of the people around you. Strengthen relationships within your family, friends and community. Create a network of support for yourself and others. Speak well of people. Treat others in the way you would wish to be treated, and always, always send and practice Love and Kindness. Where people hurt and upset you, send them more Love and Kindness. And when you are hurt and upset, connect with Love and Light to heal yourself. Be true to yourself. Practice self nurture, and allow yourself the time and freedom to enjoy your life and your relationships. Use the gifts that you were blessed with to do the things you are passionate about, and that you most enjoy. Doing this puts good energy back into the world, and allows you to grow and flourish at a Soul level, making ever increasing amounts of positive energy available to you and to those around you. You will have a positive impact on your immediate environment, friends and family just through your personal energy and state of mind! Reach out to others whenever you can. We are social creatures, and it is when our connections with others begin to weaken and fall apart that we are most capable of harming ourselves and others. Practice a spirit of tolerance and inclusiveness, but most of all, BE Love. Remember old people and children. Help them to feel loved and wanted. Find a way to give back to your community or a charity of your choice. Lead by example. Accept healing and nurture from nature. Spend time in natural environments, and with plants and pets. They are all here to give us Love. Introduce nature into your home and work environments and try to spend time in the fresh air and sunshine. Yes, it does make a difference! Slow down! Take time to breathe, to feel, to rest and relax. Reduce your stress, and the stress you impose on others. Eat well and look after your health. Support products, services, organizations and individuals with integrity and who treat the world and its inhabitants with Love and Respect. Finally, strive for Love and excellence in all you do, and in all you are. When you raise your own vibration, it has a positive cascade effect on all around you. So, don’t buy into fear – choose Love. Like the saying goes, “Be the change you want to see in the World.” ©2012 Nicole Cody is a Metaphysical Teacher and Channel.

by Brene Brown In The Gifts of Imperfection, Br ené Br own, a le a ding ex per t on shame, a u t h e n t i c i t y, and belonging, shares ten guideposts on the power of Wholehearted living—a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we’d no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, “What if I can’t keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn’t everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?” In her ten guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, “No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough,” and to go to bed at night thinking, “Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging.” Publisher: Hazelden

A Plate of Eggs

By Stephen Denham T his book is a wonderful collection of probing contemplations, insights, explorations of reality and spiritual questioning. A Plate of Eggs is not a spiritual instruction handbook however, but it will stir you sufficiently enough to get you to your own realisation of what is true and real. As a student of the Gurdjieff/Ouspensky movement, Denham has embraced the multi-level approach to Truth that explores through many spiritual traditions how it is that we come to be truly human . A wonderful book to read slowly, one short chapter at a time, and journey through and to our own awakenings as we do.

Qigong Masters. Because I needed to live in the hospital to receive the certification for clinical practice, Dr Xu had arranged for me to stay in the “High Official” room there. I had been staying at a luxurious hotel during the conference and this arrangement sounded interesting. But when I arrived at the hospital, Dr Xu told me in his usual joking way, “Sorry, a High Official is staying in your room, so we have organised a nurse’s room on the second floor of the inpatient’s department for you.” I met the directors and other main staff of the hospital and commenced my training as Dr Xu’s personal assistant. I would star t at 8am at the Qigong clinic and he would teach me the six sections of Guigen Qigong in between patients arriving for treatment. We would break for lunch at 11.30am and recommence at 1pm. From 3pm to 5pm, we held Qigong and meditation practice for patients and other doctors in the department. When word spread that a foreigner was in the Qigong department, a lot of doctors came to meet me, practise their English and discuss what I was studying. Soon, I had a few Qigong students, confirming that the best way to learn is to teach. I spent valuable time with Dr Xu at the hospital, we shared a common goal and desire to help people improve their quality of life. On my first morning with Dr Xu, he told me that I was the first Australian Qigong teacher to learn Guigen Qigong and that he wanted me to make a DVD on it so that others could benefit. I produced the DVD “Qigong - Restoring Natural Harmony” in that same year, 2004, and now this instruction book published in 2010 and packaged together with the original DVD. I have returned many times with groups of students to share Dr Xu’s knowledge, also to continue my own understanding and development of Qigong, TCM and Chinese culture. Simon Blow is the author of numerous books, DVDs and audio CDs about this ancient healing art. He is a Sydney-based master teacher (Laoshi) who has been leading regular classes, workshops and retreats for beginning and continuing students since 1990. Simon also leads unique study tours to China were he has received training and certification from Traditional Chinese Medical Hospitals and Daoist Monasteries who have given him authority to share these techniques. He has been initiated into Dragon Gate Daoism and given the name of Xin Si, meaning Genuine Wisdom. Simon is a Standing Council Member of the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong in Beijing. www.simonblowqigong.com or call (02) 9559 8153
