Thanks Travis Creek Wood Over 100 artists residing in the Inner Banks of North Carolina, thanked the public for sharing the vision of an Artistic Economy. their work is a product of our Heart and they felt honored to share it with Tyrrell County. Together , IBXartists and Tyrrell County are forging a Heritage for the next generation. IBXarts has hosted a website for two years, Since it’s inception, over 100 artists have been listed, featured and promoted. They have had incredible coverage from Our State magazine in the May 2009 Arts edition,All this on a shoestring budget of less then $120 bucks! Although they have not formerly sought sponsorship, many who share the vision have chipped in to lend a hand. IBXarts had gratefully acknowledged Tim and Rachel Spruill of Travis Creek Wood Products for sharing their building and property, Frank Dooley of IBXLifestyles for promotion, Tyrrell County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) for a grant to cover signage and promotion materials, Southern Dreams Gallery for print material, Ingrid Lemme of the Scuppernong Gazette and Swan Quarterly, Katie Hurley (author of IBXarts Smart) ,The Private donations of Photographer Ron Kemp, Pitt County’s Artist, Destry Sparks, Hyde County’s Joan Sears, and Joni Fortney and all the Artists that share the vision of an Artistic Economy !

Once this metal sculptor traded in his three piece suits and starched shirts for jeans and a T-shirt, he never glanced back. He found a life he loves. One where five and six foot frogs in tutus and tuxedos are the norm and his graceful herons and realistic fish sculptures dot the gardens and homes throughout the United States, England and Canada. TUNDE AFOLAYAN FAMOUS JR - a Nigerian native continues to make a significant impact on the lives of people through his paintings, and mixed-media expressions. He is a graduate of the prestigious Yaba College of Technology 'Yaba School' Lagos-Nigeria and University of Missouri-Columbia; MO. Exploring color as the basis of painting, Tunde infuses spiritualism and symbolism in his powerful lyrical expressions. His thematic compositions captured in vibrant colors allow figurative images to adopt expressive, abstract qualities as well as representational styles. Tunde’s spontaneous, energetic gestures created splashes, strokes, and heavily layered areas that reveal the confident control of his painting media for clarity of expressions. His color pallet tampered with strong and vibrant hues exemplifies his powerful traditional African roots and aesthetics. Tunde’s paintings are held in private and corporate collections throughout the world. DESTRY SPARKS, MIXED MEDIA ASSEMBLAGE, PITT COUNTY Destry S. Sparks is a contemporary mixed media painter using unconventional media such as driftwood, raw burlap and even parched white bones. These found objects create a visceral effect upon the surface of his works, bringing a very tangible element to painting. His influences range from contemporary international painters (Anselm Kiefer and Gregory Amenoff) and modern masters (such as Joan Miro) to untrained outsiders and ancient artists from diverse cultures (African, Aboriginal and native American). From his studio in the college town of Greenville, NC to galleries around the country, Sparks enjoys bringing his work to new audiences. TEDDI FORSYTH, LONG LEAF PINE NEEDLE BASKETRY, Revealing Nature’s Art - Long Leaf Pine Needle Baskets by Teddi Forsyth of Roper, NC Agricultural and rural heritage in Eastern North Carolina fostered the creation of a wide variety of crafts for both utilitarian and decorative purposes such as basket weaving, decorative glasswork and other homemade crafts. Ms. Teddi crafts baskets with the needles of the Long Leaf Pine Tree. Some incorporate other items from nature such as crab shells or seed pods. All of these baskets are entirely hand made and no two will ever be totally alike. Each is signed with a small silver tree frog which she selected as her logo. DEVON HURLEY, CLAY BALANCE POTTERY, WASHINGTON Devon Hurley, Clay Balance Pottery, Washington County  Small and serene, The board and batton sided pottery studio of IBXarts bustled with activity this past month as three potters threw clay from sun up to sundown. At the wheels were potter Thomas Kilian, his father Tom and the California clay artist Devon Hurley that aided the Kilian's in firing the Skutt Kiln for the first time. Devon "ting ting" Hurley, became known for his unique ability to push the pottery process along at an incredible speed, while maintaining unique tooled forms on the wheel that at times were too thin. “You can look at a piece of clay............ and see personality in it.” Says the young artist Thomas Kilian who created the pottery on the table from start to finish. Thomas explains: “The term "Pottery" is used to describe the result of working clay into a vessel, a usable vessel. In certain artistic circles it also refers to work that may be less than functional and in the future, any artistic expression of clay will more than likely be called "Pottery". It wasn't always this way, in the past "Pottery" was a term reserved specifically for "a place where pots are made" ( like "Factory", "Bakery" )- in a broader sense included cups, saucers, plates and other various encpooterments that made life, well... livable. CHRISTY MAREADY’S COTTAGE PHOTOGRAPHY AND DESIGN was established around the year 2000, although her love of taking pictures started at a young age. At around age 10, she purchased my first camera by saving up Bazooka Comics and paying postage. All through childhood she had a camera and laughs now at the pictures I took then and still has today! In 1996 she graduated from James Sprunt Community College with a degree in Commercial Art & Advertising Design. During her time in college, she took photography courses, things which are virtually extinct today, such as darkroom technique and developing film. She has now grown into the digital and online age which has made photography so much easier! After working for a daily paper in Jacksonville, NC as a Graphic Designer for a few years, she realized how much she also loved to

Jamie focuses on the intimate details of the natural world, with special emphasis on close-up photography. Her photographic interests also include gardens, wildflowers, old farm buildings and tobacco barns, lighthouses and coastal scenes. Jamie has exhibited her work over the past ten years, including the North Carolina Museum of Life & Science, Sertoma Arts Center, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences with fellow nature photographer, Bill Campbell. Her work has appeared in Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, North Carolina Literary Review and Fear of the Coming Drought and on the covers of Impressions magazine (Spring/Summer 2004), Tar River Poetry, Asheville Poetry Review and the Breast Cancer Resource Directory of North Carolina (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Editions). IBX arts fest 2010 Unfortunately we could not feature all artists, due to space restraints, but most importantly due to lack of information. We editors know that the most talented artists (of all media) often don’t understand the importance of their presence on the Internet. No doubt, you need a core group, like Pocosin Arts for local exposure and IBX Arts for regional exposure. I mention these organizations, because this event was held in
Tyrrell County. YES, one artist can be the marketer and his/her own promoter, but it takes
a lot of work to get something like this started . You’ll need a group of people who are excited and are willing to put in some work to make it happen. Get an affiliation with an organization you feel comfortable with, or better, as many as you like. But first, please get a simple website and a nice business cards that featurer your URL, your web-site address that is, and your email address
