THE ROOSTER A monthly update from the Inland Empire Offroad Association

Upcoming Mona Bacon Memorial Poker Run

What’s New We don’t have any off roading to report on this month, but the sand season is just around the corner.

Sand Show Delayed and Relocated The Sand Sports Super Show, which traditionally kicks off the dune season in late September has been delayed, and moved to Scottsdale AZ, on October 17 and 18. See more on page 2.

Summer Fun How have you been passing the hot days? Send in pics and stories and we will share.

By Mike Bacon The 9th Annual Mona Bacon Memorial Spook Poker Run and Hot Dog Wheenie Roast is scheduled for Saturday October 24th, 2020. It is tentatively scheduled for the usual place, the Salton City Golf Course, HOWEVER, we may have to change the location depending on the status of the Ocotillo Wells SVRA. Ocotillo Wells is currently closed to all activity due to the Corona Virus and may not open back up in time for our event. Current options for us are the Calico, or Johnson Valley areas, both of which are federal BLM land and remain open for use. The other option is to go to Glamis, which would be convenient for anyone planning to be in Glamis for Halloween. So if you have a preference please drop me a note and I will keep your preferences in mind should we have to change locations. Everyone stay safe and virus free and looking forward to the new Desert Season! Thanks, Mike Bacon

Moab Trip Update Due to the unavailability of camping spots we have canceled our trip to Moab next month. The area is completely booked up for the entire month of September. The Rally On the Rocks UTV event has been rescheduled for May 11-15, 2021. We have already made reservations for camping at the Moab Rim RV Campark for May 9-16. Registration for the rally begins on January 1, 2021. If you are thinking of going I would recommend booking your camping reservations as soon as possible as it will book up fast, especially once registration opens for the rally in January. Thanks! Mike Bacon

Buggy Night Relocates As many of you know, a group of us meets on Tuesday nights to work on toys, trailers, and even an occasional side by side. This began over 30 years ago at Fontana High School, and moved to Executive Elevator’s shop once Dean Carver retired from the school. Now Executive Elevator is moving their headquarters, and Buggy Night is following along. We are now meeting a few miles East on Arrow from the Rancho Cucamonga shop to Dean and Sue Cole’s former house at 13806 Arrow Rt in Fontana, which is on Arrow between Mulberry and Calabash, just North of California Speedway. (Note that Waze may send you further East, make sure it is West of Cherry) We’ll see you there for Buggy Night.

This month we’d like to thank Mike Bacon for sending in information for the newsletter. We know you have other summer activities going on, and would love to hear about them. Please send anything you want to me at pkastle@msn.com and we will publish it along with a calendar of events each month. -Paul, Melissa, Allie, and Marshall.
