THE ROOSTER A monthly update from the Inland Empire Offroad Association

Summer Fun

What’s New It is a slow news month for duning news, but the sand season is right around the corner.

There haven’t been any desert trips in the last month, and I don’t have any content for this newsletter, but people are getting ready for the season. Ray and Janice have undertaken a project to

Poker Run Mark your calendars for October 19th, when Mike Bacon will be hosting the 8th annual Mona Bacon Memorial Spook Poker Run and Hot Dog Weenie Roast.

substantially re-enforce their Weekend Warrior walls, and plan to have it done for October. Many of the rest of us have projects that we want to finish up, and looking at the calendar we only have six off weekends before Columbus Day at Dumont! Then it will be time for Anza, Halloween, and Thanksgiving before we know it! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in the desert.

The sand season starts for many of us with the Sand Sports Super Show, and it is just a few weeks away! It gives everyone a chance to come out and look at new toys and pick up gear and goodies to get ready for the sand season. This year we will once again be in Florida until Saturday of the show, but we arrive at LAX on Saturday night so we will plan on heading to the show on Sunday with some of the guys from Tuesday nights at the elevator shop. While there are a lot of side by sides, there should still be some buggies, trailers, parts, and new gadgets that will be interesting to see. It is also a chance to see many people we have duned with, and to generally get everyone excited for the upcoming season. Tickets are $15 per adult per day if you buy them ahead of time, or $20 at the gate during the event. Children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. Hopefully we’ll see you there! -P.J.

Reciprocity Ending for OHV Registration There has been recent activity online discussing changes to whether states recognize OHVs that are registered in other states, and the news doesn’t look good for off roaders. Beginning January 1, 2020 the state of Utah will no longer have reciprocity with any of the other 49 states. This means that as non-Utah residents, we will have to buy an out-of-state permit for $30 per year for each OHV. There is also discussion about a similar issue happening with Arizona, where as of September 1, 2019 the state requires nonresidents to purchase a nonresident OHV decal for $25 to ride in Arizona. This recent change has prompted concern that California will likely no longer recognize Arizona OHV registrations, and owners of these vehicles will need to purchase a California Nonresident permit for $30 in order to operate the vehicle in California, including Glamis and Dumont. Basically it becomes one big chain reaction of different states requiring non-residents to purchase permits, which leads to neighboring states doing the same and charging for their special sticker as well. In the end, we will likely need a separate sticker for each other state we plan to ride in, as well as our home state registration. At least it isn’t quite as bad as with vessel registrations, where besides registration stickers you also need aquatic invasive species stickers for each state. It does make us wonder how long until we need a Milk Vetch Rehabilitation program sticker to go with all the others? -P.J. This month we’d like to remind everyone top please send in content if you would like to have a monthly newsletter. Without your content, the newsletter is merely a calendar of upcoming events. We enjoy having content to share, so if you have pictures, text, comments, jokes, or anything that you want to share, please send it to me at pkastle@msn.com. We will publish what content we have and a calendar of upcoming events in every month’s newsletter. -Paul, Melissa, Allie, and Marshall. 3
