THE ROOSTER A monthly update from the Inland Empire Offroad Association

What’s New There haven’t been any organized dune trips since Presidents week, but people have been off roading together in and near Lake Havasu. Check it out in this month’s articles by Mike.

Easter Week The next big Glamis trip is planned for the week leading up to Easter weekend, from about March 26-April 5. We will have easter egg hunts for the adults and kids on Easter Sunday.

Easter Week is Coming The next trip to Glamis is just around the corner, as we are looking forward to a trip starting the week before Easter and extending through Easter Sunday. Since we will have a fair number of kids in the group, we will have an Easter egg hunt for them in camp on Sunday, along with one for the adults as well. We started doing this many years ago, and it has led to some great times. It is fun to see a group of adults act like kids again to search for prizes in plastic eggs. To make it fun, bring a few prizes to either place in eggs, or place coupons for in the eggs that whoever finds them can redeem for the item at the end. We have done this before with cans of carb cleaner, rags, and other duning necessities. Basically bring a few things that you would enjoy getting yourself, and between all of us we should have a good time. We will also have all the fun dune rides, and an Omelette breakfast as well, so we hope to see you there. (By the way, the image below was the Easter egg hunt back in 2015… Let’s recreate some of the fun again this year!)

Exploring Lake Havasu

Upcoming Events

By Mike Bacon

• March 26 ish to April 5: Spring Break though Easter weekend at Glamis, Wash 6. Let Jim know how early you may arrive, as he is trying to decide when to arrive.

As many of you know, Pat and I have recently moved to Lake Havasu. On the first of March her brother and sister-in-law from Michigan came to visit our new home, and take the opportunity to explore the Lake Havasu area. They rented a RZR for a couple days and we rode up in to the canyons north and east of Havasu. We were joined by Doug & Kris for the offroad days.

• April 30- May 3: Season ending weekend at Dumont. Make your plans now for what is always a great weekend of fast riding.

The first day we rode up to the radio(?) tower and explored to the north. I led them down through a ridiculously tight, rocky wash and once out found there was a decent road that went right by the wash! The wind came up pretty hard so we found our way back to town and went back to the house for some relaxing by the pool.

The next day we rode south a ways and then went up one of the washes until we found a Jeep trail that led through some hills and in to another canyon. It was an interesting ride, we really had no idea where we were, but we managed to find our way back after a while. Doug & Kris had to go home the next day and Bill had to return the rented RZR in the afternoon, so we went for a short ride up in to the same area as before, hitting the radio tower, and going up another wash for a while. We made it back to the house in time to clean up, return the RZR, and go to dinner. A couple days later we took a ride up to Oatman, in the van, not the Talon! I hadn’t been to Oatman in 30 years, and of course, Bill & Stephanie had never been. Pat had been there about 15 years ago, but even she didn’t remember much about it. We walked among the burros (the very first OFFROAD vehicles!), and we had lunch at the restaurant. It was a fun day playing tourist.

Bill & Stephanie had to go back to the cold and snow of Michigan so we took them in to Las Vegas to catch a flight. They are looking forward to coming out again with their motorhome and staying longer.

Exploring Lake Havasu Part II By Mike Bacon A few days after we sent Pat’s brother and sister-in-law home a group of IEOA members arrived at Don & Shirley’s to go out and ride the trails of Lake Havasu. Ray and Janice were in town with her daughter and her family for Spring Break, and they had rented a 4 seat Can Am to ride with us. Jim Kastle, Doug & Kris, Don & Shirley, Dave & Donette, Jerry & Linda, and Troy and his daughter all joined the rides at one time or another.

On the first day we visited the radio tower, and the waterfall, then followed the power line road over to the Bison area. The Bison area turned out to be a very active shooting area on a Sunday, so we slipped through back to town. Part of the group went to find the Desert Bar outside Parker after lunch, but we didn’t go.

The next day we rode up the same Challenger Wash, past the radio tower and followed a wash up in to the hills. We followed some Jeep trails and just wandered our way around for a while. There are hundreds of trails around this area and it’s going to take a long time to cover them all, so I guess we’d better get busy!

More From Havasu: Here’s a couple more pics that Jim sent of the fun from Havasu. It is neat to see Ray, Janice, and their extended family, along with the group getting together for some fun in the desert, even if it isn’t quite as sandy as we are used to.

This month we’d like to thank Mike Bacon for sending in two articles, and encourage everyone else to do the same. We’re looking forward to getting together for one more big Glamis trip this season as we return to Wash 6 at Glamis leading up to Easter. Please send your contributions for future newsletters to me at pkastle@msn.com and we will publish them along with a calendar of events each month. -Paul, Melissa, Allie, and Marshall. 6
