So cats… here we are again! I do hope you are entertained by my editorial efforts! It has been an extremely eventful month, so much going on in our wonderful region! For me, COMICON has been the highlight of my year so far. It was a spectacular gathering of ‘like-minded’ amigos. I was thrilled to have some face-time with Sean Astin and Warwick Davis... Not to mention getting inspired by all of the creative minds who were there sketching, colouring, playing and sharing their love for all things ‘geek’! Just fantastic! Happy reading! Enjoy Infusion Episode 198 ..

What we did BRUNO MARS @ DUBAI MEDIA CITY amphitheater

After traffic issues we were herded into the jam-packed amphitheater! What a fantastic party... Bruno really showed that he is a wonderful performer. Blasting out all the hits and some treats that are yet to be released. People were singing and dancing to every tune... we were actually about to escape a little earlier to avoid the mass exodus from the arena but he started singing the tracks we all know and love... so we just carried on dancing! Bruno is a superior crowd pleaser, a great live concert performer and unlike many of todays ‘pop-stars’’... his voice sounded exactly the same LIVE as it does on the radio or CD... a very talented chap and we are glad we went to see him…

HECTOR MORALEZ @ 360

Hector Moralez joined Infusion at 360 for another glittering edition of ‘The Experience!’ CHARL and new guest GABRIEL GREEN were on deck support! Let me say that Hector Moralez is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met; not to mention a bloody good DJ! It’s difficult for me to think of just one track that stood out because it was all put together so damn well. The floor was going right to the very last moment. Numbers through the door were at least 1,200 revelers! A big night had by everyone and we can’t wait to do it all over again soon!!!

The Kryptonite Factor

Pants over my ‘man’ stockings and a crisply ironed ‘cape’... I headed to DIMC for Comicon. It was just ‘SUPER’!! Everything from the ‘live’ illustrating artists, the fabulous variety of retail stores, movies, creative academies and the Hollywood celebs! I had an absolute ball! A truly engaging press conference with Sean Astin, Warwick Davis, Manu Bennett, Alan Tudyk and others, what a beautiful bunch of fellows! Nothing was too much hassle, they gladly took time to answer questions, sign autographs and ‘jump-in’ for photos. I had the honour of hanging-out with artists James O’Barr (The Crow series) Rufus Dayglo (Tank Girl) and Jock (Judge Dredd)... extremely inspiring chaps and all had marvellous tales to tell. What I found exceedingly interesting is that are each ‘self-taught’ illustrators. The massive ‘game zone’ was a fabulous addition to the festivities... Everything from up-front video games to Warhammer 40,000, Magic The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons! It was a kingdom of ‘geeky goodness’.

KIKO NAVARO @ CHAMELEON

So we bounced our way over to ‘Tecom’ for the much-anticipated session by Kiko at The Chameleon Club. The warm-up with Stu Laurie offered a pleasant fusion of deep and soulful house music, which toasted the crowd nicely before master Kiko’s performance. He took over with his trademark meld of energetic funky tech house blended with some well-known classic samples and remixes. He was full of life and did not stop dancing from start to finish! Utilising 3 turntables and his magical FX unit, he was remixing and dropping samples on the fly that made for great entertainment! Biggest track of the party had to be Mr. Navarros rework of “Riders On The Storm” As always with the Chameleon Club, it was a fabulously mixed, global crowd. A tip-top soiree, the die-hard ‘house’ fans did not leave the dance-floor all night .. We look forward to visiting the club again soon!

Looking Back

Say What Dancefloor dictionary Bee Bee Dub: is a slang term for Big Beautiful Women (BBW). The term is usually applied to attractive women who are slightly over weight, fat, or obese. A woman is considered a Bee Bee Dub if she is overweight and a fox. Ugly fat chicks are not considered Bee Bee Dubs.

Short and tweet BILL MAHER: Can we go back to using Facebook for what it was originally for – looking up exes to see how fat they got!? WILL FERREL: Sitting in green room with Justin Bieber…Must resist urge to roundhouse kick him in his midget face …. OLD ‘REALLY BAD’ JOKE What did the green grape say to the purple grape? Breathe, idiot! BREATHE!

In numbers In the English language “FORTY” is the only number that has all letters in alphabetical order.

Blue Marlin 1st Anniversary

It appears to me, whoever planned the potentials for that intimate beach space in Ghantoot, knew exactly what they were doing. It is rare to see such well-planned and well-executed establishments gain notoriety for being so excellent, especially only being open for 12 months! As we turn the page on what can only be described as a ‘mesmerising 1st year’ Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE aims to bring us all something quite special. We’ve enjoyed every aspect the beautiful destination has to offer, from the sun-kissed beach, sublime restaurant, refreshing cocktails and an action-packed terrace! Their one-year anniversary party is shaping up nicely and is fast becoming the talk of the town! They have just announced that three of the biggest DJ’s to come out of Ibiza in recent years will be hosting that very special day!

What Is That Pleasant Pong?

Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon, along with her partners at SPiN Galactic and the Alyamour Brothers are pleased to announce the launch of SPiN Dubai located in WAFI this May. SPiN Dubai will feature eleven designer Ping-Pong tables, a world-class bar, lounge and nightclub serving a fusion of international cuisine, accompanied by innovative cocktails and drinks. A shisha lounge will also be available on the outdoor terrace. This stylish new venue will be the ultimate destination for guests to play the beloved sport of Ping-Pong while the acclaimed resident DJs masterfully mix throughout the night. In 2009, SPiN New York – a Ping-Pong nightclub was born from a series of parties hosted by co-founders Jonathan Bricklin and Franck Raharinosy, two friends who shared a passion for whacking little balls across a table together in a loft apartment in NYC’s trendy TriBeCa. Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon, along with entrepreneur Andrew Gordon, teamed with Bricklin and Raharinosy for the opening in New York, which was soon followed by a second club, SPiN Milwaukee and the third club in Toronto and in Los Angeles. Launching May 2013 at WAFI, Dubai. The Royal Moscow Ballet performing Swan Lake! See you at the DWTC in May! 4th Anniversary Full Moon Party at 360! We celebrate in true ‘Infusion’ style at 360 on Thursday 25th April! I discovered these guys at Comicon! www.robotandspark.com

UAE “Promoters” over using the word LEGENDARY! Especially when nobody has ever heard of the person to whom they refer! Banks ‘cold calling’ offering ‘free for life’ credit cards, then listing processing fee charges! Tickled! Overnight and unjust rent increases throughout Dubai. Anybody recall what happened before?

ROCK ON! Experience an impressively diverse lineup of world famous rock stars blasting out an awesome selection of anthems! Rock music is the biggest and most favored music genre in the world. It creates an invisible bond of comradeship when musical acts from different countries and cultures get invited to share the same stage. The ‘Dubai World Trade Centre Arena’ boasts, 14-meter high ceilings with over 9,000 square meters of covered exhibition space. It is the perfect spot to host the Dubai Rock Fest 2013! With space for over 8,000 guests to comfortably fit, this festival is expected to be monumental! M Premiere is proud to announce a line-up of special magnificence! Featuring: Yngwie Malmsteen (USA) – headliner of the festival – “One of the greatest guitarist to walk the earth” (CBS Grammy coverage News), Dark Tranquility (Sweden), Epica (Holland), Nightmare (France),

Myrath (Tunisia), Anurzym (UAE). The Dubai Rock Festival will last for almost 7 hours, featuring full theatrical performances and all of the best hits from the worlds most famous rock bands. We were lucky enough to secure a few words with Mikael Stanne, lead singer of the band, Dark Tranquility.

Who and what had the greatest impact on your decision to become a rock musician? Seeing Kreator in 1988 made me want to play guitar and sing for sure. I loved how the energy of thrash and speed metal was presented on stage and I got addicted to that positive, yet aggressive energy. If you could ‘Jam’ with anyone (DEAD OR ALIVE) who would it be and why? It would probably be Genesis in the 70s. They were so theatrical and strange, no one really got it and their songs were just amazing. I would have loved to be a percussion player or something during the tours between 1969 and 1972. If I wasn’t a rock musician I would be? A kindergarden teacher probably.

What, where and when, was your greatest ever live performance? There has been so many and for many different reasons but some that have stood out have been the first in any country or part of the world. The anticipation and the expectations run high and there is no better feeling in the world. First time in Mexico City was beyond amazing and our first show in South Korea in front of 35,000 people we wont soon forget. Coming home from a long tour and doing the last show in our hometown in front of our friends is also pretty high on the list. The feeling of homecoming is amazing. What is your most successful, single music release to date? As far as sales go I think Fiction was our biggest seller. How would you describe the last 12 months of your life? Hectic, chaotic, depressed, ecstatic, inspired, creative, nervous, self conscious and just insane! As I always am when we write and record and album.

Who are you listening to at the moment? Steven Wilsons latest album. “The Raven That Refused To Sing” If you could have dinner with any famous person from history, whom would it be? Christopher Hitchens probably. He was one of the most vocal and vicous defenders of reason and logic. I would have loved to listen to him over a nice meal and a few beers. How much are you looking forward to playing in Dubai... Why? Playing in a new country that we havn’t been to is probably my favourite thing about being in a band like this. Meeting new

people and performing for a fresh audience is amazing. Also Ive heard many great things from my friends in bands who have played in Dubai before. We we have high expectaions and we are looking forward to it very much. I’m not a politician but... a good dose of science based education would do the world very good I think. Teaching kids to think for themselves, make informed decisions and apply a scientific method to their thinking would in my mind rid the world of a lot of problems in the long run. Friday, 7th June 2013 will be a new beginning for rock life of Dubai!

opportunities for growth but the deadlines have been tight and the external pressures for results have been relentless. How is the clubbing scene in SA? The SA club scene is great at the moment as underground electronic music as it’s a new beginning for a whole new scene. There is a new generation of clubber who through social media and web connectivity is incredibly worldly and well informed. Most memorable set I’ve played is… It’s all ways such a difficult question to answer but I guess one of my most special sets was Alicia Keys invitation to perform live with her in London at an annual charity fundraiser she hosts called The Black Ball. Any place you’ve not yet performed but would like to? I would really like to play in Swaziland at “House on Fire” Festival or Malawi at “Lake of Stars” What do you know about Dubai? Lots. I have many friends in the sand pit and try stay as long as possible when ever I come over.

Who are you listening to at the moment? Right now I am in the car listening to a SA compilation called Breathe Sunshine which is compiled by Trenton Birch who recently released his solo album called “Trenton and the Free Radicals.” What is your most successful record produced to date? I guess it’s a track called “Cheza” under my guise Khaya. It was first released on Defected in the House Volume 1. Describe your sound in 5 words Futuristic African Tribal Fusion Techno If you could have dinner with any famous female (dead or alive) whom would it be? Brenda Fassi, I recon it would be wild to her stories and perceptions of dance music. We’ll see you on Dek 8, The Dek on 8, Media One Hotel Friday, 26th April BRU! Free Entry / Doors open at 4pm – 3am / Strictly 21+

THE DEK on 8 will be hosting a who’s who of the African House music industry on rotation with, Martin McHale, Vinny Da Vinci, Black Coffee, Coco Loco, Vimo, Lady Lea. We caught up with Black Coffee ahead of the musical maestros return to Dubai on 3rd May. How would you describe the last 12 months of your life? It was quite busy, worked on a Live Album and DVD recording and released it whilst travelling Europe, USA & SA. You studied music, majoring in Jazz. Did you know then, that you wanted to create dance music? Yes I did. While I was studying I was a DJ. I was always drawn to dance Music. Who were your musical influences growing up? Stimela, Donny Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, Busi Mhlongo.

Who are you listening to at the moment? Little Dragon (just discovered them), Gregory Porter (bumped to him last Sat at the Airport in SA and I went on groupie mode). Describe your sound in 5 words Groovy, Inspiring, Musical, Soulful, Honest. How does your African heritage influence you music? A lot… It’s who I am… I don’t even have to try. What can we expect from your forthcoming Dubai showcase? Pure musical bliss. Every Friday 4pm-3am @ Dek on 8, Media One

What makes the

Lunar’ Tick?

With the FULL MOON 4th anniversary party imminent, and considering I’m only the ‘hitchhiker’ editor for Infusion Magazine.. I thought it’d be a spanking opportunity for me to get a clearer understanding of the ‘Infusionistas’ dynamic here at iHQ! No better way to do that than snatch-a-rap with Master Charl Chaka and Mizz Monique Belle! I’m sure most of you have heard of Charl... with music in his blood and funk in his soul, his raw energy & talent has taken him from top London clubs to festivals in South Africa, DJ residencies in Dubai to guest slots in Ibiza, Miami, London & back. Charl is one of the original pioneers of the Dubai music industry and is currently the Head Honcho of this leading Nightlife & Music platform, INFUSION Magazine. He is the brainchild behind the award winning ‘Full Moon’ parties, the event that has been pinned by TimeOut as “the event that changed the Dubai scene, to winning the TimeOut Nightlife Award for ‘Best Overall Event’ in 2010. Monique is the little energizer bunny for Infusion. She started organising events whilst at university where she

was studying music technology, aspiring to become a producer and record label owner. Now in Dubai for almost 4 years, the lovely Monique has been tasked with the ‘event managers’ position at Infusion and if you ask me... she’s doing an absolutely marvelous job! How did you come up with the idea of FULL MOON PARTY? CHARL: Obviously I’ve been to the Full Moon Parties in Thailand more times than I can remember, and this played a part in it, however the idea of doing Full Moon Parties in Dubai came about one afternoon. We just ‘discovered’ Nasimi Beach as it was only a beach restaurant then. After a meeting with Clifford Weiner, the then manager, a couple of cocktails later and the Full Moon Parties were born….. MONIQUE: I wasn’t around

when the first parties were hosted on the beach, but I do remember going to one session whilst actually working at Atlantis. It was like nothing I had seen before! All these party people on the beach, no massive headline act, everyone just enjoying the music and each other. Then I went a second time and saw The Cuban Brothers, met a monkey in a gorilla costume wearing a pink tutu and saw this enormous spider like creature roaming around the beach that no one else seems to remember. How many party’s have you hosted to celebrate the full moon over the past 4 years? CHARL: I think we’ve done in the region of 15 parties! Who has been your favourite FULL MOON guest DJ so far? CHARL: Full Moon has never been about big guest DJs, we kept it with the locals as they can hold their own. It’s always been about the experience, entertainment and theme. Musically we’ve kept it real and that’s why I think it has been around for 4 years. MONIQUE: I would have to agree. Guests are great and we’ve had some really fun

ones (Gene Faris playing that Oliver $ track at full volume whilst the hotel management running up to the DJ booth begging him to turn it off due to all the expletives) but my most memorable event whilst working with these guys was our 2nd Anniversary. 5700 people with all our local guys! If fees were no issue, whom would you like as a FULL MOON PARTY guest performer? CHARL: Easy! Carl Cox, but he wont come to this region. Trust me, I’ve been trying for 3 years! MONIQUE: Diplo & Major Lazer! Don’t worry, we’ll get it sponsored. What extra special treats can we expect at the FULL MOON 4th anniversary party? CHARL: We have selected a few key players from the local DJ circuit. They have all been part of our ‘Full Moon’ over the last few years so it should be a special night under the moon. MONIQUE: We are also bringing our talented ‘Full Moon’ entertainers to mix things up a bit. You can’t have a birthday party without a clown! Infusion Presents The 4th Anniversary Full Moon Party at 360. Thursday 25th April! A full roster packed with local all-star DJ. Come and party in style with the Infusion tribe at 360! Look and Listen

Music News... Todd Terry’s Vinyl Renaissance

US acid house legend Todd Terry has re-launched his label Freeze Records as a vinyl only imprint, selling limited runs of hand picked tracks. House of Gypsies Samba and Todd Terry Presents: Sax are Freeze’s first two releases. DJ Spider said that like Todd, they’re not aiming for mass market audiences. “All of us have record labels which have this open minded approach to releasing music,” he explained, “ Instead of worrying about selling thousands of records, but rather put out fresh new sounds for the sake of the art of quality dance music. hat I was going to do with all of my old records and I said I didn’t know, and he asked me to pack them as he’d love to have them,” the garage star wrote on his ebay seller page. “A week later, when I finally made it to California and pulled up to my manager’s house, he was drinking a mai tai and said “I changed my mind.” Typical I don’t have space in my apartment or in my studio for them, so I’ve decided to put my entire record collection up for sale”. In yet more vinyl news (which ironically will benefit digital DJs the most) Amazon announced this week that they’re offering a new retrospective service to buyers of vinyl records which allows them to digitize all of their record purchases since 1998. “Many of our music customers are vinyl fans and it’s traditionally been very difficult to make digital versions of vinyl records,” Amazon exec Steve Boom declared, “now customers can enjoy the albums they buy wherever they are, not just when they have access to a record player!

MUSIC BITES Pacha’s new musical chief Steve Hulme wants to radically reinvent the uber-chic Ibiza institution as a ‘Deep-Tech’ club! Justin Bieber is apparently looking at properties in Dubai. The 19-year-old singer is believed to have his sights set on snapping up a lavish home in the Emirate. SongBooth, the social music video making mobile app, has been created with the help of muso’ Tinie Tempah!

Avicii — Only Old DJs Read the Crowd

EDM superstar DJ Avicii admitted he’s having problems with warm-up DJs copying his sets in a fascinatingly revealing feature in GQ this week, and also revealed that his own DJing technique is largely limited to twiddling ‘mostly volume’ sliders and buttons to mix pre-prepared sets. He also suggested that the art of big room DJing has now changed irrevocably, with performance skills (presumably hand punching, perfecting heart-shape hand signs and pressing ‘play’ properly) the key skills needed for earning US$250,000 plus DJ fees. “The notion of a DJ who determines what to play by reading the room “feels like something a lot of older DJs are saying to kind of desperately cling on staying relevant,” GQ reported. Avicii was also confirmed as the headliner of Electric Daisy Carnival EDC)’s first ever London event, this week, which will see ‘the Swedish prodigy’ appearing on the Main Stage alongside.

Amsterdam Open Air

‘Amsterdam Open Air’ presents a dynamic line-up again this year, representing the Amsterdam night life. Like the previous successful editions, the four main stages will be hosted by Apenkooi, Carnivale, Format and GirlsLoveDJs. They will be supported by newcomers Straf_Werk, Diepzinnig and the new stage Open AIR – BY MTV. The smaller stages will be hosted by PLAK, de Nachtspelen, SFFRMKRS, Chasing the Hihat and Baws. Besides the musical, culinary and cultural experience of the festival, a lively night program at the campsite will make its debut. With names including Aeroplane, Todd Terry and Flight Facilities, disco and electro will set the tone of the Apenkooi stage on Saturday. Amsterdam will be honored to welcome Belgian rave queen Raving George, treating Open Air to merciless electro. In short: with an exuberant festivity introducing new hosting and creative partners, a night program at the camp site and the new Tipi-camp, Amsterdam Open Air 2013 promises to surpass previous editions. Saturday June 8th & Sunday June 9th 2013 – Gaasperpark, Amsterdam

Album Reviews... CONAN LIQUID – CALCULUS EP Infusion Records



With 25 years of music production under his britches, maestro ‘Conan Liquid’ invites you to sample his latest offering from the Infusion Records bivouac - The Calculus EP. Influenced by the simple raw electronic sound of the 1980s, this deep and progressive EP certainly has my vote! Drum sounds created with Moog oscillators, saturated with that warm analog roundness and synths drizzling with FM attitude. Three ‘full frequency’ cuts that will slot easily into either a Techno, Nu Disco, Electronica or Deep House session. The Calculus EP is the third succulent present from Infusion Records and I’m confident that this particular treat will make any dance floor moisten!

I’m not sure about you but I am exceedingly aroused by this forthcoming Daft Punk release. It’s the French duos fourth studio album, out on May 21st 2013 and thanks to a teaser video shown at Coachella, we now know that the French electronic team will be partnered with at least nine other melodic warriors. According to the teaser, collaborators include The Strokes’ Julian Casablanca’s, Animal Collective’s Panda Bear, Paul Williams, Giorgio Moroder, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Todd Edwards, Pharrell Williams, and of course Nile Rodgers. The teaser vid is about two minutes long and reveals a cheeky peek at the track “Get Lucky” with Pharrell Williams singing lead vocals, Nile Rodgers on guitar and the ‘Punksters’ hovering in the background looking as cool as ever! This album has to be one of the most hotly anticipated releases of recent years! I for one have been ‘begging’ the promo pool to send me a copy ASAP! Check out the teaser trailer on YouTube!! BOOM! I’m so excited!!!

James Ford and Jas Shaw have constantly pushed the audio envelope. Their sound has certainly progressed since their inaugural offering. The new live album was recorded in Philadelphia in one take, featuring zero post-production. It is a great adventure through the SMD catalogue. ‘Your Love/ Run Theme’ warps you through a techno wormhole, ‘Unfixed’ is a synth heavy voyage, whilst both ‘Seraphim’ and ‘Cruel Intentions’ are late night belters. The album is a ‘fantastic planet’ of Tech, House, Nu Disco and all of those delightful ingredients that make this a must have for those who don’t relish daily radio secretions from ‘Mr Worldwide’, Pit-bull!!

HED KANDI – DEEP HOUSE – Hed Kandi Records



Brand ‘Hed Kandi’ seems to be one of those dynamic ‘dance music’ products that manages to stay afloat by supplying a steady flow of ‘half decent’ album compilations. This particular release is actually one of their better offerings. Although everyone and their dog appears to be jumping on the ‘Deep House’ train recently … This is a stellar collective of solid House chugs with some rather yummy remixes. To round off, there are 2 ‘continuous mixes included, one by DJ Eibhlin, the other by Hed Kandi fave, John Jones. I’d probably throw it into my car for a listen!

MUSIC THAT MATTERS

SECRET PASSION – SOULFUL SESSION Feat. JJ After causing a major dance floor disturbance when it was teased on the Strictly Music Miami Sampler, this sun-kissedcut finally gets a long overdue release! The full package is stacked with a selection of tight mixes, completed with a majestically deep rendering by the Dubai based Soulful Session Jedi himself, ‘Simon “Schoolboy” Phillips’! A MUST HAVE for the ‘Soulful House’ appreciation society! EVERYBODY – ANDRE ESPEUT (Pete Herbert Rmx) This is a masterful ‘Nu Disco’ biscuit! Polished nicely by the Pete Herbert remix. I’ve been spinning this little gem and the original version for a while! It’s very Nu with a squeeze of old! HICK – WEICHHOLD, NAMITO & HICKHACK An extremely addictive ‘choochoo-chug-a-long’ Simplistic beats, bloops, bass and bleeps make this deep, tech treat a late night scorcher! WHAT IS JAZZ – DAMIR PUSHKAR, B.ORIGINAL & J.A.M.O.N (DNGR Remix) You just can’t beat the resonance of a ‘real’ trumpet stab, which this little ‘Broken Beat’ jewel volunteers plenty of! Delicious on decks for breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper!!

DJ Booth: Sufyan Heff

At only 28 years old, Sufyan Heff AKA, ‘Sofiane Fessi’ is already considered ‘by some’ as a veteran in music. Although he is reasonably new to the region, Sufyan is certainly making ‘soundwaves’ After tuning his musical ear to DJing, Sufyan has managed to secure several esteemed residencies in the UAE including, The Capital Club DIFC and the official DJ for Virgin Megastore. With growing notoriety amongst the ‘Deep House’ fraternity, Sufyan is ready to conquer the UAE!!

Tell our readers a little about yourself and your preferred music style. I’m 28 years old, was born and raised in Paris. I’ve lived in London, Barcelona, San Francisco and now Dubai! I’ve been into music since the age of six when I started violin classes, which I still play to this day. I enjoy many different styles of music including Jazz, Indie and Classical. However, over the past six years it has become all about Deep/Tech-House, Techno and Electronica. Where do you see yourself in 12 months? I’m really looking forward to what the next 12 months have in store. I’m travelling around Europe and North America attending some of the best music festivals in the world, which will help to inspire and extensively grow my music library and bring fresh, new sounds back to Dubai. Describe your music in 5 words! Fresh, evolving, beguiling, deep, consistent. My best set so far was at… Because… Definitely in Paris about four years ago for a party concept called Die Nacht at Piscine Molitor, which was an abandoned Olympic-sized swimming pool complex. The venue was one of the best in Europe for underground parties and I had the chance to play at the very last rave hosted there before they destroyed the building. The energy was really intense with over 1,500 people dancing to the sound I was playing. My worst ever job was … One summer when I was in high school and went to work at a huge music festival in France called Les Vieilles Charrues. I was a garbage collector there. It was only four days long but really hardcore. We had to start every day at 8am until noon! Digital or Vinyl .. Why? The day I can afford to buy as many tracks on Vinyl than I currently have on my laptop, I’ll switch to Vinyl. The sound quality is much better and it’s more exciting and challenging to mix. Virgin Megastore brought back Vinyl last year, so they’re easier to find and get your hands on. But in terms of quantity, MP3s are definitely more accessible and affordable. Enjoy Sufyan, cuttin’-n- pastin’ his tracks at the District Lounge in Capital Club, DIFC every Thursday.

Weird News... Sh*t Shower

Artie Hughes and his wife were enjoying an unseasonably warm evening on their patio in Malverne, New York when a black oily liquid covered them, their garden table and their barbeque. Mr Hughes, who lives near JFK airport, said: “A plane was coming over. Next thing you know my wife says, ‘Oh gosh it’s raining’. I said, no its not’.” Police later surmised it was sludge that had leaked from an aircraft bathroom! YUK!

Clever Clucker Over a six-week period, Helen Jones of Felmingham in Norfolk, UK taught JJ, a rescued battery chicken, to count up to seven – rewarding correct answers with sunflower seeds. When she shows the bird a numbered playing card, it pecks the correct number of times. JJ is now learning to play naughts and crosses!

With me being a visitor to chateau Infusion .. I’ve decided to grab lovely Monique from IHQ for our IN FOCUS feature. Take it away Missy... My style? I don’t really know where I would put myself. I just like wearing things that make me comfortable. My job is such that I have a lot of running around to do so I want something that feels easy but equally won’t put somebody off if I have a last minute meeting with a client or venue. I saw this top at H&M a few months ago and thought, “That looks a bit mental, pink and blue stripes, what would I wear that with that, not sure I can pull it off” then I went back and bought it. Actually got it tailored to fit better in places and this was the first time I wore it. I recently moved and had to downsize my shoe collection. I wear these Puma high tops the most. They are easily the most comfortable things I have put on my feet. I’ve worn them heaps but they still look box fresh! I love my accessories. Watches in particular. I wanted to add a bit of formal ‘bling’ to this outfit so opted for the crystal studded D&G. I’m not normally a label girl. It’s just more about whatever looks good!

Arrival of restaurant chain selling bland, superunhealthy fast food delights homesick expat BAHRAIN: A homesick Canadian expat living in the Gulf has reportedly whooped with unbridled joy at the news that Chucky McBurger Barn is set to open its first outlet in the region later in the year. According to eyewitnesses on the scene, 29-year-old Harriet Fuddrucker screamed with delight when she was first told that the Canadian fast food chain – famed for its rancid 1,500 calorie Double Barn-Buster Burger – was planning to open a branch in Dubai this August. “Oh my god, oh my god, no way! The McBurger Barn is coming!” the chubby primary school teacher later told reporters. “That, like, totally reminds me of home. Me and my mom used to have the Double Barn-Buster every weekend. Oh my god, oh my god!” Despite living in Bahrain, Fuddrucker has reportedly said that she plans to fly to Dubai several days before the official opening in order to get a spot at the front of the queue, and will try to make the trip “at least three times a month, heart permitting”. The Pan-Arabia Enquirer is the Middle East’s premier source of satirical news. This means that it’s entirely made up and not intended, in any way whatsoever, to be taken as factual.
