You may be thinking oh no, not green eyeshadow. I could never do that. But Emerald can work with all eye colors. It’s a beautiful contrast with blue eyes, dramatically enhances green eyes, brightens the appearance of the green undertones in hazel eyes and brown eyes appear deeper and darker. It is also a color that can easily be worn all year. It’s deep and rich enough for fall and winter but bright enough for spring and summer. Some of us remember the over applied, embarrassingly bright eye makeup of the late 80s, but colored shadow has matured into a surprisingly sophisticated look just like luxurious emerald gemstone itself. The key to the modern version is the application. Anytime you apply a lot of color to the eyes, do the eye makeup first. Finish the entire eye before applying concealer or doing any corrections. Pigment from the shadows tend to fall under the eye and can be hard to clean up which is especially tough when using blue or green.

some of Austin’s top skincare specialists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

Winter can wreak havoc on our skin. Although our winters are not severe, cooler climates usually lead to less moisture, dry skin and less of that youthful glow that we oh-so desire. Without proper moisture and hydration, our skin can end up looking dull or damaged.

By springtime, we are ready to refresh

and rejuvenate our lackluster look. Lucky for you, we talked to the experts to find out a few key techniques and treatments to help you ward off parched skin and get glowing for the new season. W i n t e r Wo e s

During the winter, temperatures drop outdoors and we crank up the heater indoors which naturally strips all moisture from the air. Since there is less moisture in the air, our skin tends to become more dehydrated during this time of year causing dry skin. According to Dr. Nicole Mathis, a board-certified dermatologist at

So, what can we do to repair, rehydrate or rejuvenate? Here are a few tips and treatments to renew your skin for spring. Moisturize

The most important thing to remember is to take care of your skin before it gets dry and flaky. A good moisturizer is paramount. According to Vicki Hansen, a senior medical aesthetician at Serenity Creek Med Spa, “As the weather changes, so should your skincare routine. The same moisturizer you use during the spring and summer may not be good enough for the winter, so you should look for a product that has more moisture than the one you currently use.” When it comes to products, Dr. Edward Buckingham of Buckingham Center for Facial Plastic Surgery suggests, “While some over-the-counter products are probably good, it is difficult to determine what really works and their ingredients. Medical-grade products tend to be more scientifically proven and offer concentrations and ingredients not available in OTC products.”

When you think of fashion and travel, what comes to mind? For me, it’s New York City, London, and Paris. For any fashionista; however, a trip to Milan is a must.

Must see. At the heart of Milan is the Duomo, or cathedral. Although work started on the Duomo in the 1380s, work wasn’t completed until 1965. No visit to the Duomo is complete without taking an elevator (or the stairs) to the roof. There, on a clear day, you have tremendous views the Alps.

Must eat. The Milanese invented the aperitivo—the happy hour. Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m don your most fashionable clothes and slip into any bar. There, during aperitivo, you’ll find a lavish spread of cured meats, cheeses, and other local delicacies. Pair these snacks with a nice Italian wine or the cocktail of your choice.

60

IN FLUENTIAL

influential-magazine.com

Must do. Shopping, of course! All of Milan’s haute boutiques fit into the Quadrilatero d’Oro, or Rectangle of Gold. There you can find Prada, Versace, Missoni, Hermès, and Chanel to name a few. Plan to spend some time here – the people watching can be just as good as the window-shopping.

Must stay. When I think fashionable hotels, the one that comes to mind is the W Hotel. The W Milan is set to open in June 2014 and couldn’t be in a better location. The W Milan will be in the heart of the Brera district just steps from the Duomo and Teatro alla Scala.

Get there. Three international airports serve Milan: Milano Malpensa International Airport {airport code MXP}; Linate Aiport {airport code: LIN}; and Il Caravaggio International Aiport {airport code: BGY}. If you prefer train travel, high-speed trains connect Milan with Rome.
