Police will post warnings against entering the water at Pedro Bluff while seeking a law to forbid bathing in the area, hoping to forestall further tragedies after the Boxing Day drowning of 17-yearold Justin Henry. “We highly recommend that people do not do that, and never do it again,” said RCIPS Inspector Clive Smith yesterday. Mr Smith is part of the Marine Unit handling the incident. “We are going to signpost the area, [make it unlawful for people to swim there] and the police call on the public to mind the advisory [warnings] and take their safety into account.” Inspector Smith said the warnings would be in place soon, but acknowledged that creating new laws required an effort

of bureaucracy. “It has to go through the Legal Department, of course, so it takes a little time, but we call on the public to heed the advisory on their safety,” he said. Inspector Smith rejected suggestions that police had not responded quickly enough to the 4;00pm call for help from one of the three women accompanying Mr Henry, a resident of the Rock Hole area of George Town. “It took about a half-hour, maybe 45 minutes, to get there,”

he said. “The length of time to get there depends on what side of the island we are patrolling, The helicopter was on the ground at Owen Roberts airport and it takes about 20 minutes to get it into the air. “We have to get the crew, get them into helmets and prepare the aircraft. The search was conducted for approximately two hours until dark,” Mr Smith said. He said Monday’s events started when Mr Henry’s companion jumped into the water from the bluff.

PRINCETON, NJ, Dec 14, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -The Cayman Islands Department of Immigration is accepting scores from Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) TOEIC(R) tests to measure the English-language proficiency of persons from around the world wishing to work or settle in the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands Department of Immigration expects to receive approximately 1,000 applicants annually who will take the TOEIC(R) Listening and Reading test and the TOEIC(R) Speaking and Writing tests to demonstrate their Englishlanguage skills. Scores will apply to workers from all sectors and are not based on a tier system or type of work. “We are encouraged by the Cayman Islands’ use of fair and valid assessments to advance quality and equity in education,” Mohammad Kousha, ETS Executive DirectorGlobal said. “TOEIC assessments offer job seekers a competitive advantage and an internationally recognized credential to distinguish them from other candidates.” The Cayman Islands acceptance of TOEIC follows the U.K. Border Agency’s announcement earlier this year that persons from around the world wishing to work or settle in the United Kingdom may use the TOEIC test to demonstrate their English proficiency for all visas under the United Kingdom’s pointsbased system. The TOEIC tests are the most widely accepted English-language assessments in the workplace environment. With more than six million tests administered last year, the TOEIC tests are the global standard for assessing workplace English-language communication skills for companies, institutions and government agencies around the world. The TOEIC tests currently are used by more than 10,000 organizations in 120 countries worldwide.

“A stray gust of wind can blow you right into the sea” Tad Stoner tad.stoner@ieyenews.com

Continued from front page “It happened around 4:00pm when two fellows with three female persons were at Pedro Bluff, and the elder of the boys jumped off the cliff there. “He climbed back on and jumped a second time. Then the younger of the two followed and jumped off the cliff. The first guy, then, could not find the second, and one of the girls called 911 and a search was mounted.” Police reports said only that “a male had jumped into the water in the vicinity of Pedro Castle” and was joined by another male who sought to assist.” Aerial and marine police units tried to locate Mr Henry, “until dark,” the inspector said, acknowledging, however, that “if a person is not found within 10 minutes to 20 minutes, the chance of rescue” is limited, and “you are looking at a recovery search”. The four others at the scene “’were ok, with slight coughs and things, while the surviving swimmer “didn’t need any attention”. “The search was called off Monday night and resumed the following morning at first light, about 6;30, as we prepared and organised a search pattern,” Mr Smith said.

DUI arrests continue to rise More than 40 people have been locked up on suspicion of drink driving since the start of this year’s festive safety campaign. A total of 44 arrests for DUI have been made since the start of Operation Christmas Cracker – that’s the staggering figure released yesterday (Wednesday, 28 December 2011) by the RCIPS. “Forty-four people who thought that the Traffic Law did not apply to them are facing court in the New Year,” said Chief inspector Angelique Howell. “We have already locked up more people this year for DUI than we did during the complete safety campaign period last year. The figure is deplorable and a sad indictment on the behavior of drivers in the Cayman Islands. “New Year’s Eve will soon be here and again people will be attending parties, or drinking in their homes. Once again we will be targeting drink drivers and taking those selfish and irresponsible people who continue to put their own lives, and the lives of other road users at risk, off the streets. So if you really want to have a happy and safe New Year, take a cab, designate a driver or use the NDC purple ribbon bus.”

Two in hospital Two men are in hospital following an early morning road crash on Linford Pierson Highway. Just after 2.20am on Wednesday 28 December, a Honda Civic, which was travelling on Linford Pierson Highway left the road and collided with a tree, near to the riding stables. The driver, aged 26, and his 24-year-old passenger were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital where they are currently being treated. The driver is in a serious condition and the passenger is stable.

Activist criticizes campaign’s anti-gay rhetoric KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — The leader of Jamaica’s sole gay rights group said Tuesday that some rulingparty candidates have aggressively played to anti-gay constituents by resorting to homophobic rhetoric in the final days of the campaign for this week’s national elections. Dane Lewis, executive director of the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, AllSexuals and Gays, said Jamaica Labor Party candidates have “unfortunately descended into pulling the sexuality card” in advance of Thursday’s tight vote. “It’s been disappointing that they’ve chosen this road yet again because it seems to historically be their stance during campaigning,” said Lewis, adding that his group is not endorsing any political party. Politicians have routinely railed against homosexuals in Jamaica, where a colonial-era sodomy law bans sex between men and many people in the highly Christian nation perceive homosexuality as a sin. But during a debate last week with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, opposition chief Portia Simpson Miller called for a review of the law. She argued that professional competence, not sexual orientation, will determine who is selected for a Cabinet post if her People’s National Party wins. Since then, some top Labor candidates have made homophobic comments at political rallies, among them Cabinet minister Daryl Vaz, who said “God created Adam and Eve

Prime Minster Andrew Holness

and not Adam and Steve,” prompting applause and anti-gay slurs from his West Portland constituents. Labor’s candidate for West Central St. James, Energy Minister Clive Mullings, asserted that easing up on laws against homosexuality would bring God’s wrath down on Jamaica, while West Kingston candidate, Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie, used an epithet at a rally while an anti-gay dancehall song played. In a Sunday editorial, the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper called the recent developments “not only sad, but dangerous.” “Some might add cynical and vulgar.”

On Tuesday, the opposition People’s National Party stressed that Simpson Miller’s comments were being distorted by Labor partisans. They said the party is committed to a review of the anti-sodomy law, not its repeal. Peter Phillips, campaign director for the People’s National Party, rejected allegations by Vaz that the opposition had received funding from any international gay rights groups, asserting that Simpson Miller’s party in no way supported “any gay agenda.” It is not yet clear if either side’s recent comments about homosexuality and the sodomy law will hurt their chances in Thursday’s election for the island’s 63 seats in Parliament. Recent polls have shown the two main parties in a statistical dead heat. Despite the easygoing image propagated by the island’s tourist boards, Jamaica is by far the most hostile island toward homosexuals in the already conservative Caribbean, gays and their advocates contend. Many Jamaicans insist hostility toward gays is blown out of proportion by gay activists. Some say Jamaica tolerates homosexuality as long as it is not openly displayed.

Old fireplace embers caused deadly fire STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Two of the little sisters who died in a furious house fire early Christmas morning lost their way as a family friend tried to lead them to safety. Their other sister died just feet from escape, trapped inside as her grandfather perished during his rescue attempt. Outside, their mother frantically tried to direct firefighters to her doomed family. Authorities on Tuesday described that chaotic scene of frantic, futile attempts to save the three girls and their grandparents after embers in a bag of discarded fireplace ashes started the accidental fire at the grand waterfront house, which was being renovated.

“We are devastated, just like everybody else is devastated,” said Brendan Keatley, a Stamford firefighter who was at the scene. Of the seven people in the home, there were only two survivors: the girls’ mother, a New York City fashion advertising executive; and a family friend who had worked on the home as a contractor and, according to firefighters, is believed to have placed the ashes in or outside an entryway, near the trash. Flames quickly entered the house, spread throughout the first floor and licked upstairs, trapping the girls, the grandparents, the mother and the contractor, the city fire marshal said.

That’s when screams began to wake the neighborhood, soon followed by the whine of fire engines.

Obama hits popular snorkelling spot during vacation HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama and his family spent a warm and sunny afternoon at one of the most popular snorkelling spots on the island of Oahu, where they released four green sea turtles into the water. The Obamas arrived at Hanauma Bay Park on Tuesday after a scenic, 40-minute drive from their multimillion-dollar rented vacation home on Kailua Beach. The park is a favorite destination for the Obamas, who make an annual trip there during their Christmas holiday in Hawaii — always on Tuesdays, when the park is closed to the public for maintenance.

This year, the president and his family released four green sea turtles into the bay’s clear blue water. The 18-month-old turtles were born at Sea Life Park, a nearby marine sanctuary and aquarium that boasts of being the only place in the U.S. that raises green sea turtles in captivity. The president and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, enjoyed their turtle experience so much that they decided to make a stop at Sea Life Park later in the day. The president appeared briefly before cameras as he left the park, climbed into a waiting SUV and headed back to his vacation rental.

China blames 54 officials for bullet train crash BEIJING (AP) — A long-awaited government report said design flaws and sloppy management caused a bullet train crash in July that killed 40 people and triggered a public outcry over the dangers of China’s showcase transportation system. A former railway minister was among 54 officials found responsible for the crash, a Cabinet statement said Wednesday. Several were ordered dismissed from Communist Party posts but there was no word of possible criminal penalties. The crash report was highly anticipated by the public. The disaster to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

near the southern city of Wenzhou also injured 177 people and had triggered a public outcry over the high cost and dangers of the bullet train system, a prestige project that once enjoyed lofty status on a level with the country’s manned space program. Regulations had required the report to be released by Nov. 20. When that date passed, the government offered little explanation, drawing renewed criticism by state media, which have been unusually skeptical about the handling of the accident and the investigation. The Cabinet statement cited “serious

design flaws and major safety risks” and what it said were a string of errors in equipment procurement and management. It also criticized the Railways Ministry’s rescue efforts.

OPINIONS

The Editor Speaks

Almost quiet on the roads, swimming tragedy, patois according to Luke, and overweight cards

We nearly got away with it. It was a fairly quiet Christmas holiday on our roads until yesterday (28). Despite the dreadfully bad start no serious road accident was reported …. until early Wednesday morning. I was hopeful the RCIPS’ Christmas Cracker was now working. Maybe people realised drinking and driving is not such a good idea? Wrong. At 2:20am a car travelling on the Linford Pierson Highway collided with a tree that somehow had got in its way. Two people are in hospital, and one (the driver) is in serious condition. We now have to get through New Year’s Eve/Day. PLEASE be careful. Don’t be another statistic. It was sad we did have a death last Monday (26) when a teenager, Justin Henry, was drowned after cliff diving at Pedro. This is not the first time swimmers have got into difficulties at this spot. It was only last July two students from St. Matthews University got into difficulties in exactly the same spot. Luckily the RCIPS got there in time to rescue them. Mr. Henry was not so lucky. His companion was rescued and is recovering in hospital. There are now recriminations that the RCIPs did not act quickly enough. However, it does make me wonder why people ignore all the warnings and learn from past experiences in this area. It’s not just these persons who are risking death but others who have to risk their lives in trying to rescue them. Our condolences go out to all the friends and family. What a horrible end to 2011. A warning to all who attempt to do business in a bar. You never know who is watching. Local businessman, Aldo Gianne, claims he was insulted and threatened by another local businessman, Lee Webb, when he was attempting to do business in the West Bay Road Havana Club Cigar Lounge on Sat. 26 November. A law suit has been filed by Gianne against Webb. The Gospel of St. Luke has been translated into Jamaican patois for the first time with mixed reviews. With the King James Bible version celebrating 400 years and the complete Holy Bible having been

translated into 392 different languages with a total of 2,287 Portions/Testaments/Bibles (according to UBS World Report) so why not also translated in Patois? If you wanted the Bible in English and you lived before 1881 you had only one version, the one executed by King James. Whilst there are differences in all of the versions no translation changes the major doctrine of Christianity. The deity of Christ, virgin birth, salvation by grace alone - and all the rest - are still intact. As long as the Jamaican patois version stays within this doctrine I applaud it. I was annoyed to find on Monday (26) when I went to retrieve my post from my postal box in George Town that four Christmas cards I had posted – three to UK and one to USA – had been returned to me for insufficient postage. I had posted SIXTEEN cards to UK and USA. They were all the same cards taken from the same package with same greeting and picture. Twelve had been WEIGHED and posted at the main post office in Dorcy Drive and the other four had been posted a few days afterward at the post box outside Kirk Supermarket in Eastern Avenue. Those were the four that had been returned to my postal box. All sixteen cards had had the same postage stamps attached according to their destination. The only two explanations I can offer is that not all the post office weighing machines are calibrated exactly the same. Or, the season to eat and be merry spilled over to those Christmas cards and they did actually weigh more. Despite this, the overweight as recorded by one of these machines, must have been very minute and Post Office – hallo – it is CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! You won’t have to worry next year. Like a LOT of others I shall be sending my Christmas cards to friends abroad by electronic mail. It is quicker, less trouble and almost free. Mr. Scrooge at the Post Office, you are the loser. I hope you got some enjoyment at my expense but it won’t happen Christmas 2012. Has the Cayman Island Post Office noticed what is happening to the postal services in the USA and UK? They are LOSING customers. Be nice to the ones you still have, especially at Christmas!

A rash man will act as the whim takes him, and you will both be ruined by his folly. Ecclesiasticus 8:15b

Behavioral Interviewing Georgina Wilcox

georgina.wilcox@ieyenews.com Have you ever wondered, while interviewing a candidate, how will you suspend your own personal biases during the interview? Well, if you have, you might want to read on and learn how to do just that. Behavioural interviewing is a relatively new mode of job interviewing. Employers such as AT&T and Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) have been using behavioural interviewing for 15 years, and because increasing numbers of employers are using behaviour-based methods to screen job candidates, understanding how to excel in this interview environment is becoming a crucial job-hunting skill. What is Behaviour Based Interviewing? Behaviour-based interviewing focuses on your past experiences, behaviours, attitudes, personal skills and capacities that are job-related. It is based on the belief that past behaviour and performance predicts future behaviour and performance. You may use work experience, outsides activities, hobbies, volunteer work, school projects, family life as examples of your past behaviour. However we suggest to focus on job related performance as much as possible. Behavioural Interviewing Questions. This is the key to matching behavioural interviewing questions with specific soft sills or competencies. Below is a short list of 22 competencies with their definitions and suggestions for effective interviewing hints. 1. Conflict Management: Addressing and resolving conflict constructively. Listen for proactive identification and resolution of concerns and issues. 2. Employee Development/ Coaching: Facilitating and supporting the professional growth of others. Listen for a belief in the potential of others and promoting of learning and development. 3. Customer Service: Anticipating, meeting and/or exceeding customer needs, wants and expectations. Listen for extraordinary efforts in responding to customer needs and wants to insure satisfaction. 9. Written Communication: Writing clearly, succinctly and understandably. Look for clear and understandable knowledge or written communication. 10. Presenting: Speaking effectively to small and large groups. Listen for awareness, accuracy and composure. 11. Persuasion: Convincing others to change the way they think, believe or behave. Listen for persistence, determination and a “never-give-up” attitude in efforts to meet goals. 12. Goal Orientation: Energetically focusing efforts on meeting a goal, mission or objective. Listen for the ability to maintain their direction in spite of obstacles in their path. 13. Flexibility: Agility in adapting to change. Listen for a positive attitude towards lots of activity, multi-tasking and change, in general. 14. Continuous Learning: Taking initiative in learning and implementing new concepts, technologies and/or methods. Listen for a positive attitude towards self-improvement, learning and the application of knowledge. 15. Personal Effectiveness: Demonstrating initiative, self-confidence, resiliency and a willingness to take responsibility for personal actions. Listen for a strong sense of self, personal responsibility, courage and resilience. 16. Problem Solving: Anticipating, analysing, diagnosing and resolving

problems. Listen for an analytical and disciplined approach to solving problems. 17. Negotiation: Facilitating agreements between two or more parties. Listen for seasoned expertise in negotiating ‘win-win’ agreements. 18. Management: Achieving extraordinary results through effective management of resources, systems and processes. Listen for shrewd business sense, understanding of operational issues and an ability to improve the bottom line. 19. Leadership: Achieving extraordinary business results through people. Listen for an ability to obtain the trust, commitment and motivation of others to achieve goals and objectives. 20. Decision Making: Utilising effective processes to make decisions. Listen for an ability to make timely decisions under difficult circumstances. 21. Futuristic Thinking: Imagining, envisioning, projecting and/or predicting what has not yet been realised. 22. Creativity/Innovation: Adapting traditional or devising new approaches, concepts, methods, models, designs, processes, technologies, and/or systems. Listen for ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking and unusual approaches. Be sure to probe for as many details and specifics as possible such as names, dates and other verifiable information. Skilled interviewers will also ask candidates for their thoughts or feelings about a situation to gain further insight. How Can I Prepare for A Behavioural Interview? Be familiar with the type of positions for which you’re applying. Reflect on your own background. What skills do you have that relate to the job you are applying for? Think of examples from your past experience where you demonstrated those skills. How can you give an example about your use of particular skills or knowledge? Be prepared to provide examples of when results didn’t turn out as you planned. What did you do then? In hindsight, what would you do differently? Identify two or three of your strengths

and determine how you will convey these assets during the interview. Once you land your desired position, keep a personal achievement diary to help document demonstrated performance. How Do I Prepare For a Behavioural Interview If I Am The Interviewer or Company Hiring? If the job could talk; what would it say? About: • The behaviours of the person who will always be able to deliver superior performance? • The attitudes of the people doing the job? • The attributes or soft skills needed for superior performance? Job Benchmarking with a system such as TrimeTrix*, reveals why, how and what an individual can contribute to a job. It identifies a complete hierarchy of competencies or personal skills. It allows you to clarify any position issues. It prioritises and validates the competencies required. * TimeTrix is a free software time tracking system This can be done for any: • Leadership/Management Exempt position • Professional Exempt position • Hourly non-exempt position Anytime you need an unbiased opinion about whether someone is right or wrong for the job, the computer will analyse the input of up to ten respondents to identify the importance of the 22 soft skills competencies. Where can you do this? Answer: through the Internet! Have up to ten respondents identify the importance of the 22 soft skills competencies and then see how your candidate matches up. The premise behind behavioural interviewing is that the most accurate predictor of future performance is past performance in similar situations. Behavioural interviewing, in fact, is said to be 55 percent predictive of future on-the-job behaviour, while traditional interviewing is only ten percent predictive. Good luck with the process of Behavioural Interviewing and WellRun Concepts encourages you to use the Behavioural Interviewing questions provided in this article to get you started. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

NKorean TV shows mourners paying respect to Kim SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Sobbing mourners filed past the begoniabedecked bier of late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, some appearing to shake with grief, in footage aired Wednesday on state television in the hours before his funeral. North Koreans have been mourning Kim’s death for 11 days with aroundthe-clock visits to bow and lay flowers at massive portraits of the late leader erected in cities across the nation. Kim died Dec. 17 at age 69, according to state media. Funeral and memorial services were to be held Wednesday and Thursday, though it was not immediately clear whether North Korea’s sole state-run TV station would be airing the events live. The Wednesday morning broadcast showed footage of mourners wailing as they circled Kim’s body lying in state in a glass case inside Kumsusan Memorial Palace in Pyongyang. Kim is lying as though at rest, covered with a red flag, on a bed of flowers featuring his namesake red “kimjongilia” begonias and a case displaying his medals. The scene is nearly identical to the mourning in 1994 following the death of Kim’s father, President Kim Il Sung, down to the voice of the tremulous broadcaster narrating the mourning on state TV. Footage also

showed a military brass band playing revolutionary songs praising Kim. His son and successor, Kim Jong Un, paid a fifth visit to the bier late Tuesday along with top party and military officials, the state-run Korean Central News Agency said. Details for Wednesday’s funeral were not made public, but state media said a national memorial service would start midday Thursday and include an artillery salute, three minutes of silence and locomotives and vessels blowing their sirens. Footage Tuesday from Associated Press Television News in Pyongyang

showed long lines of people carrying wreaths and bunches of white flowers toward a building with a huge picture of a smiling Kim Jong Il on its facade. They piled flowers beneath the photo, bowing and crying as they stood in the cold. Some pledged their loyalty to Kim Jong Un. Light traffic flowed through Pyongyang’s streets, people drinking hot tea at makeshift tents set up on the sidewalks. The 1994 funeral began with a private ceremony attended by Kim Jong Il and top officials before a long procession through Pyongyang to Kim Il Sung Square, the main plaza in the capital, where hundreds of thousands of mourners were waiting. North Koreans lined the streets and filled the air with theatrical wails, many of the women in traditional black dresses and with white mourning ribbons affixed to their hair. A similar procession may be in the works for Wednesday, but with the late leader’s trademark red “kimjongilia” begonias replacing the magnolias, and snow and frost as a backdrop. At the time, details about the funeral in a country largely isolated from the West were shrouded in mystery, revealed only after state TV aired segments of the events in what was the world’s best glimpse of the hidden nation. Most foreigners aside from those living in North Korea were shut out, and the same is expected this week.

Plan to stop dengue fever in US A plan to introduce genetically modified mosquitoes in the Florida Keys to try to stop the spread of dengue fever is waiting for state and federal approval. The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District is working with England-based Oxitec on the project, which would release the mosquitoes sometime in 2012. The district’s executive director, Michael Doyle, tells The Key West Citizen that officials are waiting for federal and state approval to test the program’s technology. It would be the first such project in the U.S. Keys officials want to reduce populations of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a common urban mosquito known to transmit dengue fever, a flulike virus that is also known as breakbone fever because of the intense joint pain it causes in extreme cases. The illness once disappeared from the United States, but cases were reported in the Keys in 2009 and 2010. There were no documented cases in 2011, according to the Monroe County Health Department. The genetically modified mosquitoes would be bred in a lab and then the males, which don’t bite, would be released into the wild. Their offspring would die early in their life cycles, theoretically suppressing the mosquito population.

Between 5,000 and 10,000 of the mosquitoes would be released over a two-week period into an undisclosed 36-square-acre block near the Key West Cemetery, where the first case of dengue fever was reported. The initial trial is expected to last about two months, and the mosquitoes would be dusted with a fluorescent powder for identification purposes and then trapped to see how far they are flying. Trials in the Cayman Islands in 2009 and 2010 were successful in wiping out 80 percent of the mosquitoes in one test area, said Oxitec Chief Executive Officer Hadyn Parry. Meanwhile, the environmental group Friends of the Earth has published a report questioning the program’s costs and long-term impact on the Keys environment. “While attempts to limit the spread of disease are laudable, there are many regulatory, environmental and ethical challenges facing the release of GE (genetically engineered) mosquitoes in the United States and there are even more unanswered questions,” the group wrote. “The behaviour of these mosquitoes and the risks they pose to human health and the environment are hard to predict, leaving the public with more questions than answers.” The program could cost between $200,000 and $400,000 a year,

Doyle said. Doyle said concerns about the program’s environmental impacts, including the potential for other disease-carrying invasive species to fill the mosquitoes’ niche, would be addressed over the next several months in the permitting process. “Do keep in mind that none of this will happen unless the agencies approve it,” Doyle said. “Regardless, we have plenty of time to look at these issues in depth, and if everyone is convinced it’s worth doing, we’ll open it up for public discussion long before starting any field experiments.” The federal government is still working out which agency would permit the test, Doyle said. The genetic modification program is an alternative to pesticides and would allow officials to target specific species, Doyle said. Removing the Aedes aegypti mosquito would likely have little impact on the Keys ecosystem because it is a non-native species that came from Africa, Parry said. “It is promising enough to try it,” Doyle said.

Son: Pilot routinely went out on medical flights MIAMI (AP) — The pilot killed in a helicopter crash while heading to pick up a heart for transplant routinely flew medical transport missions and was a decorated veteran of combat missions in Vietnam, the man’s son said Tuesday. A heart surgeon and a technician from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville also died in the crash early Monday in remote, dense woods in north Florida. E. Hoke Smith, 68, founded SK Jets in St. Augustine in 1997 for medical transport flights, his son, Derrick Smith, told The Associated Press. The younger Smith is the company’s general manager. Smith began flying when he was

16, and he piloted combat missions in Vietnam, his son said. The company’s website lists the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross among his commendations. Smith routinely flew medical transport missions, particularly during the holidays when he gave his employees time off, his son said. “He did them quite often. He loved to fly,” Derrick Smith said. “He didn’t want them to have to take time away from their families.” Derrick Smith referred questions about the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board. An NTSB spokesman said investigators were on the scene in Clay County.

No flight plan had been filed for the helicopter, which was headed to Shands at the University of Florida, said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen. The helicopter also was carrying heart surgeon Dr. Luis Bonilla and procurement technician David Hines of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Mayo Clinic spokesman Layne Smith said the patient who had been scheduled to receive the heart is back on the waiting list for a new organ. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Life changed for Dorothy Samson in an Indian orphanage. Seeing the incredible needs of the children there, the Colorado resident knew she could make a difference. So started a journey that led her to Compassion International and its unique child sponsorship programme. Now, after just five years working with the ministry, 25 children count on Samson for prayers, letters and support. “They crawl up into my lap; they call me ‘Auntie Dorothy,’” Samson said. “They are my children.” Although Samson never had children of her own, that didn’t stop her from sharing her love and compassion with little ones. “I always wanted to have 12 children with an abundance of boys,” Samson said. From her home in Grand Junction, Samson began her Compassion sponsorship experience in 1999 with four children from India and one from Haiti. That number soon grew to 13 children, and she got that abundance of boys. Later, when she learned that there was a need for sponsors for African children, she didn’t hesitate to take on even more. “Compassion told me that there was a lack of sponsors for African children because of the HIV/AIDS problem,” Samson said. “I can understand people wanting to invest their money in children who are certain to grow up to be healthy, productive adults. But all children are precious, even those who might be HIV-positive. They aren’t responsible for having the disease they are innocent victims, and they, too, deserve the opportunity to have a happy childhood and to be loved and cared for.” Responding to the need, Samson sponsored 12 African children - eight of them in Uganda. And in September 2002, she spent five special days with “my youngsters,” as she refers

to them. She treated her children to a game park, a safari and a boat ride to see hippos. “Of course, the kids were so excited. They’d never seen animals in the wild or even taken a boat ride. It was wonderful to see their excitement,” Samson said. Since she’s returned from Africa, Samson has had several opportunities to share her experience and tell others about her precious Ugandan children, several of whom have already had to deal with the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS, having lost parents, siblings and other close relatives to the disease. “I don’t know if any of my children have the disease,” Samson said. “ I pray that they do not. But it would never change how I feel about them. I love them as my own children. My hope for them is that they can have a happy childhood and become all they can be in Jesus - free from AIDS.” When Compassion International opened its first projects in Uganda in 1980, the scourge of HIV/AIDS had not yet affected the world. Little did anyone know that only a few years later, many of the children Compassion serves in Uganda would battle the effects of this deadly, incurable disease. Compassion International currently ministers to more than 164,000 children in five countries in East Africa. However, sponsoring a child is just part of Compassion’s Ministry to Children in Need. poverty. Their Holistic Child Development Model is made up of four comprehensive programmes investing in children from the beginning of their lives until they’ve reached adulthood, and covering everything from prenatal care to university-level education. Their one-to-one Child Sponsorship Programme allows you to personally connect with a specific child and build a life-changing relationship. When you sponsor a child, you have the opportunity to influence that child during adolescence, one of the most pivotal developmental periods. Three additional programmes round out the Child Development Model. Their Child Survival Programme helps save the lives of babies and mothers in poverty utilising local churches to assist mothers of at-risk infants and toddlers. Mothers can give their children a fighting chance for healthy development with the supplies and training provided by donations. These donations supply Prenatal Care, Nutrition (food), Health Care, Infant Surviving Training for Mothers, together with Spiritual Guidance and Education. Their Leadership Development Programme champions promising young adults to continue their education and develop their leadership abilities. Their Complementary Interventions address a variety of additional needs that complete the other programmes. For more information go to www. compassion.com

Members of the Young United Democratic Party (YUDP) were joined by Ministers Hon Mike Adam and Hon Mark Scotland in spreading some Yuletide cheer at the Pediatric Ward of the Cayman Islands Hospital on Christmas Eve. YUDP President Richard Christian said, “We wanted to do this visit on Christmas Eve because while a lot of us are busy buying gifts and doing last minute shopping for the holidays, there are those who will be spending their Christmas ill and in the hospital, and unfortunately some of those are children. So we wanted to bring some joy to them by inviting Santa and giving away some gifts.” The toys were bought by donations from members of the public. The YUDP is the youth arm of the UDP, and is for young people between the ages of 18 and 35. “Our aim is to get young people involved in politics and we’ve done a number of community projects,” Mr Christian said. Earlier in 2011 YUDP members got together to plant some trees

the cost of generating electricity from either natural gas or petroleum. As for cleaner air, coal has long been unpopular with environmentalists who argue the fossil fuel produces the greatest amount of mercury and carbon dioxide emission, associated with global warming. Current energy bills, however, propose clean coal power initiatives, which would implement high-tech ways to reduce

pollution when electricity is generated from coal. Unfortunately, to build these new high tech pollution free coal fired plants will cost 25-40% more to produce the same amount of electricity as the ones being used now. There are no requirements anywhere to enforce their use and especially unlikely in the USA, India and China, the world’s biggest polluters.

Coal Georgina Wilcox

georgina.wilcox@ieyenews.com

In the early 1900s, coal was the nation’s major fuel source, supplying almost 90 percent of its energy needs. When the cleaner, more efficient petroleum and natural gas came into play, the demand for coal declined. Today, nearly 55% of the nation’s electricity is generated using coal. So what happened? In 1999, natural gas was the most expensive fossil fuel, petroleum was second and coal was the least expensive, according to the Department of Energy. Although the cost of generating electricity from coal has increased through the years, it is still lower than

Purdue beats Western Michigan 37-32 in Pizza Bowl DETROIT (AP) — Purdue quarterback Caleb TerBush took the final snap, sprinted to the sideline and handed the football to coach Danny Hope. Perhaps empowered by getting a contract extension recently, Hope made the gutsy decision to go for two onside kicks in the first half and both gambles paid off for the Boilermakers in a 37-32 win over Western Michigan on Tuesday night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Raheem Mostert returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, third-string running back Reggie Pegram scored the first two TDs of his career and Carson Wiggs made two field goals to give the Boilermakers a 27-15 lead at halftime. Wiggs also recovered one of his onside kicks, both of which he tapped toward a sideline after running at full speed as if he was trying to boot the ball deep.

Purdue (7-6) had another 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Big Ten team had to hold on for the win against the Mid-American Conference program. The Broncos (7-6) got the ball with a chance to go ahead, but their comeback hopes ended when quarterback Alex Carder fumbled for his fifth turnover with just under 2 minutes left. Ryan Russell forced the final fumble and Bruce Gaston recovered to seal the win in a game that entertained 46,177 fans inside the home of the Detroit Lions. The Boilermakers played in a bowl for the first time since 2007, when they beat Central Michigan — also in Detroit. Western Michigan fell to 0-5 in postseason play. Purdue’s Akeem Shavers ran for a career-high 148 yards on 22 carries, filling in for the injured Ralph Bolden,

and was named the game’s MVP. TerBush was 8 of 13 for 101 yards with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Gary Bush midway through the third quarter that put Purdue up 34-18. Robert Marve was 6 of 7 for 76 yards with a 1-yard scoring pass to Pegram in the first quarter. Purdue defensive end Gerald Gooden had two of his team’s four interceptions, and gave back one of those two turnovers to the Broncos in a game filled with miscues and missed opportunities for both teams. Western Michigan’s star receiver, Jordan White, who drew at least one NFL scout to watch him, caught 13 passes for 249 yards and a score.

Glennon’s three TDs help NC St down Louisville 31-24 CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Glennon threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns and David Amerson returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown as North Carolina State defeated Louisville 3124 in the Belk Bowl. T.J. Graham made the most of his final game at N.C. State with seven catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard score on a nifty catch-and-run, as the Wolfpack (8-5) overcame a series of special teams blunders to hold off a late charge from the Cardinals (7-6). Amerson had two more interceptions to give him 13 for the season, the most in the country, while setting a new Atlantic Coast Conference record. Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, who threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another, nearly brought the Cardinals back from a 21-point deficit, but his final heave on fourth-and-23 was picked off by Amerson with 41 seconds left. Louisville used a fake punt and recovered an onside kick to get back in the game after falling behind 31-10. Bridgewater threw a pair of 2-yard

touchdown passes to close the gap to 31-24 with 3:55 left in the game. The Cardinals had once last chance to send the game into overtime after stopping N.C. State on fourth-and-2. However, on a third-and-12 Dontae Johnson sacked Bridgewater for an 11-yard loss setting up Amerson’s clinching interception. The Wolfpack came into the game leading the nation in interceptions and picked off Bridgewater” three times. On Louisville’s first possession, Bridgewater came under pressure and made a poor decision to try to dump the ball off, but instead threw it in the hands of linebacker Terrell Manning for an interception. Glennon took advantage, methodically driving the Wolfpack 79 yards completing 6 of 7 passes for 49 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown strike to Graham to take a 7-0 lead. Wolfpack coach Tom O’Brien was worried about his young special teams unit coming into the game and his worst fears were realized on his team’s next drive. Freshman punter Will Baumann mishandled a low snap from center and was swarmed under

at the 5-yard line. The Cardinals cashed in three plays later on an 8-yard touchdown run by Bridgewater to tie the game. After Louisville went ahead 107, Glennon bounced back from an early interception by completing five straight passes for 80 yards, capped by a 35-yard touchdown to Tobais Palmer, who made a nice adjustment with the ball in midair to haul in the pass. Then came the play of the game as Graham caught a pass over the middle from Glennon and broke two tackles en route to a 68-yard touchdown reception giving the Wolfpack a 21-10 lead at the break. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Investec Loyal faces protest in Sydney-Hobart race HOBART, Australia (AP) — Supermaxi Investec Loyal’s victory Wednesday in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race was immediately placed under protest by the race committee amid allegations the provisional winner used a television helicopter pilot to spy on runner-up Wild Oats XI. Investec Loyal beat Wild Oats by 3 minutes, 8 seconds in one of the closest finishes in the history of the prestigious ocean-racing event. The protest under rule 41, which refers to the use of outside assistance, will be heard at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania on Thursday. The race committee, chaired by Tim Cox, said the incident occurred at 6.30 a.m. Tuesday, 30 nautical miles south of Merimbula on the south coast of New South Wales State. The protest describes an “audio recording of conversation between ABC helicopter and Investec Loyal.” “Crewman from Investec Loyal seeking information from the helicopter of the sail plan in use on

Wild Oats XI,” the protest said. In a dramatic final day, Investec Loyal overtook Wild Oats XI in the afternoon and held on in a tight, tactical tussle to reverse last year’s finishing order. The 100-foot Investec Loyal, skippered by Anthony Bell, finished at 7:15 p.m., completing the 628 nautical miles in 2 days, 6 hours, 14 minutes, 18 seconds. The race was the first since 1997 to still be actively contested in the Derwent River that leads to the finish line off Constitution Dock in Hobart,

capital of the island state of Tasmania. The finish was the closest in a generation, but was well outside the narrowest margin in the race’s history — the 7-second gap between Condor of Bermuda and Apollo in 1982. Third-place Lahana was about 50 miles from the finish line when the top two crossed and was expected to finish after midnight. Fifth-place Loki, which had 60 miles to run, was narrowly leading the race on handicap when Investec Loyal finished. Loyal’s narrow win capped an exhilarating final 24 hours in which the lead changed hands three times. Wild Oats led the 88-yacht fleet out of Sydney Harbour on Monday at the start of the 67th edition of the race and held that lead through a stormy first night at sea, then through all of the next day. Investec Loyal closed, then overtook Wild Oats on Tuesday night and led by a little more than a mile when dawn broke over a reduced fleet Wednesday.

Austrian wins WCup GS; Lindsey Vonn finishes 5th LIENZ, Austria (AP) — Anna Fenninger of Austria skied a nearly flawless second run Wednesday to capture a giant slalom for her first World Cup victory, while Lindsey Vonn extended her lead in the overall standings. The 22-year-old Fenninger was 0.23 seconds off the lead in sixth place after the opening leg. She used a superb second run to finish in a combined time of 2 minutes, 16.08 seconds. Federica Brignone of Italy was 0.20 seconds behind, and Tessa Worley of France was third. Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany, who led after the first run, finished fourth and Vonn was fifth. “I can’t believe it myself,” Fenninger said. “It’s my first win ever. I always used to be good at speed events and now I win in GS. I hoped to compete for the top five and never thought of winning.” Fenninger, who won the supercombined title at the world championships in February, was helped by a massive error by to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Rebensburg. The Olympic giant slalom champion from Germany misjudged a turn shortly before the finish of the second run. “I made a mistake in the middle part and again near the finish,” Rebensburg said. “But I must say, Anna raced really great.” Vonn, who won the season-opening GS in October, boosted her overall World Cup lead. She has 599 points, 231 more than Fenninger, who moved into second place. Defending overall champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, who finished 10th for her best GS result of the season, is sixth with 297 points. Vonn, who traveled to New York for an appearance on David Letterman’s TV show last week, was the first skier down the course for the first time in her World Cup career. “I was a bit nervous because it was the first time ever I started No. 1,” Vonn said. “Especially in GS, it’s only the third race that I am in the top seven, so it’s pretty exciting.”

Austria’s Anna Fenninger celebrates in the finish area after winning an alpine ski, women’s World Cup giant slalomv

For Fenninger, winning her first World Cup race was as unexpected as her world title last winter. “Actually, I feel the strongest in super-G at the moment,” she said. “I would have settled for any podium finish today. To be on the podium in front of a cheering home crowd, that’s the best feeling you can get as an athlete.” Fenninger hopes her first win will take the pressure off.

Ethic helped us to the top PATRICE Evra believes Manchester United’s team ethic has allowed them to join Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League despite a debilitating injury crisis. By the end of its 5-0 home win over Wigan Athletic on Monday, United had 11 players carrying injuries and ended the game with Michael Carrick joining Evra in central defence, Antonio Valencia at full back and Wayne Rooney in central midfield. Of those who missed the visit of Wigan, Alex Ferguson has highest hopes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling recovering from illness in time for their next fixture, at home to Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Eve. United has not put a timescale on Rio Ferdinand’s absence with a back injury, while Jonny Evans looks set to miss a couple of weeks with the calf injury that forced him off at half-time during the latest victory. Such a severe catalogue of injuries provides an unlikely recipe for United’s recent run of good form, which has helped it to win eight of its past nine league games, taking it level on points with City, which now tops the table only on goal difference. Evra, though, claims that adversity has helped to bring the best out of United, with the defender citing the

collective spirit as a key factor in the resurgence. “This is the United spirit,” Evra said. “You can play everywhere (any position) -- if you want to win, you have to accept it. You see Antonio Valencia playing right back as well. Only because United play like a team. The team is the star, not only one player, that’s why you can put me and Michael Carrick at centre back; we’re going to win because it’s the team effort and team spirit. “I’ve said that from the beginning, in six years playing here, the Man United spirit -- no one team has got that spirit. This is why I’m so proud to play here. “What the fans expect of every player, we are doing now. That’s why I’m very pleased. “Nothing is easy; it’s because we’re working hard. “That’s why we have to keep going with this momentum and trust each other, because it’s a big squad and everyone wants to show they deserve to play. If we win and score goals and keep many clean sheets, like we did against Wigan, we’re going to be at the top of the league at the end of the season.” Evra accepts, though, that United needs as many of its injured players as possible to return to fitness if it is to

match City’s exploits and he is hoping to see a stronger line-up when it faces Blackburn on Saturday. “I am a little bit worried because we need everyone if we are going to win the league,” the France defender said. “It is starting to get annoying.” Monday, 26 December 2011 Barclays Premier League Bolton 0-2 Newcastle Chelsea 1-1 Fulham Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Man Utd 5-0 Wigan Stoke 0-0 Aston Villa Sunderland 1-1 Everton West Brom 0-0 Man City Tuesday, 27 December 2011 Barclays Premier League Arsenal 1-1 Wolverhampton Norwich 0-2 Tottenham Swansea 1-1 QPR

Suarez fined and banned for one game Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been suspended for one match, fined £20,000 and warned as to his future conduct after admitting a Football Association charge of improper conduct. The 24-year-old Uruguayan international will miss Friday’s Premier League game against Newcastle United at Anfield as a result. Suarez, recently given an eightgame ban for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, was charged for an abusive hand gesture following the 1-0 defeat at Fulham on 5 December. He raised the middle finger of his left hand as he walked off the pitch.

Liverpool have also been fined £20,000 for failing to control their players in the same match. Several Liverpool players remonstrated with referee Keith Friend when Reds midfielder Jay Spearing was sent off during the game. The club admitted the charge of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion but contested the financial penalty. However, an independent regulatory commission ruled the £20,000 punishment was applicable. Liverpool said they had no comment to make on either

Suarez’s ban or the imposition of a fine on the club. As it stands, Suarez, a £22.8m signing from Dutch side Ajax in January 2011, will miss almost a quarter of the league season because of the two suspensions. The player’s lawyer says Suarez intends to appeal against the eightmatch ban for racially abusing Evra but Liverpool have yet to decide what action to take. They say they will wait to receive the full written report from the independent commission. However, they have repeatedly backed Suarez in public, a move which has attracted criticism from a number of black footballers. to blog visit www.ieyenews.com

Lakers rout Jazz, easily avoid 0-3 season start LOS ANGELES (AP) — After finishing three games in roughly 56 hours with their best effort yet, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers demonstrated why their demise might not be as imminent as many thought. Bryant scored 26 points, Pau Gasol added 22 points and nine rebounds, and the Lakers avoided just the fourth 0-3 start in franchise history with a 96-71 victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. Metta World Peace scored 14 points for the Lakers, who had much more life than the Jazz despite playing their third game in three nights to open the season. Los Angeles ran away with a dominant third quarter, making a 27-8 surge out of halftime in the club’s first win for coach Mike Brown. After a tumultuous preseason under a new coaching staff, several injuries and the NBA’s only threegames-in-three-nights start, the Lakers realize they’re still lacking a consistent identity and a thorough knowledge of Brown’s game plan. At least a blowout win over the Jazz allowed them to enjoy their first

day off since training camp began. “We’re a very active team,” Bryant said. “This is a blue-collar team. We’re a scrappy bunch. You saw that. We’re going to fight and scratch and claw for everything, as it should be. That’ll get us by.” With a Christmas loss to the Chicago Bulls and another defeat in Sacramento one night later, the Lakers got off to their first 0-2 start since the 2002-03 season. But Los Angeles has started 0-3 just three times in franchise history — just once in the last 50 years (1978-79). Utah missed 17 of its first 19 shots in the second quarter while the Lakers made a 13-0 run capped by a one-handed dunk by World Peace, the normally ground-bound leader of Los Angeles’ second unit. Los Angeles blew out the Jazz after halftime, jumping to a 68-39 lead with a 12-2 run. “To hold a team to 32 percent and 71 points in an NBA game, I don’t care who you’re playing, you’re doing something right on that end of the floor,” Brown said. “The focus, the energy, the effort, that communication and trust that we brought defensively, was exciting to see.” The Lakers comprehensively shut down the Jazz, the last NBA team to open its regular season. Paul Millsap had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Utah, but coach Tyrone Corbin scowled throughout the lowest-scoring performance in an opener in franchise history. “They’re a veteran team, they have a lot of pride, and they have some great players in that locker room,” Corbin said. “I told our guys before the game, ‘If you expect them to come out and lay down because they’re playing there games in three nights, you’re mistaken.’ They wanted to get the monkey off their back as soon as they could, and they played like it.” In the Jazz’s first season opener without coach Jerry Sloan running their bench since 1988, Utah made just 20 shots in the first three quarters and shot 20 fewer free throws than the Lakers. Al

Jefferson went 2 for 16, C.J. Miles was 1 for 8, and rookie Enes Kanter was 1 for 7 in his NBA debut. At least Utah’s 25-point loss was one point better than the biggest blowout loss in Utah opener history. “It didn’t seem like much was working for us,” said Utah forward Gordon Hayward, who had seven points. “It felt like we were a little stagnant, just standing around and watching a little bit. They kind of blew it open in the third quarter, and we can’t allow that to happen. But it’s just one game. We just need to be more confident shooters.” The Lakers got their only backto-back-to-back series of games out of the way immediately, although they still won’t even get consecutive days off until mid-January. When the New York Knicks visit Staples Center on Thursday night, Los Angeles still will be without starting center Andrew Bynum, who will finish his four-game suspension for misbehavior in last spring’s playoffs. The Lakers already are hurting

this season, with Bryant nursing a torn ligament in his right wrist and Gasol wearing extra support for his sprained right shoulder. Veteran Matt Barnes, who’s dealing with bursitis in his left hip, didn’t play for the second time in three games despite a loud fan chant for him in the fourth quarter. Millsap came off the Utah bench, playing through tendinitis in his right quadriceps that nearly kept him out of uniform. Jazz newcomer Josh Howard had 10 points in 24 minutes. NOTES: Corbin waited until right before game time to rule in Millsap, the Jazz’s sturdy power forward. Millsap was a reserve for most of his first four NBA seasons, but started all 76 games in which he appeared last season. ... Lakers F Troy Murphy fouled out in 32 scoreless minutes, but he also had 11 rebounds and four assists. ... Utah plays five games in the next seven days, including a one-day trip to San Antonio. The Lakers have four games in the next seven days.

Bale has no weakness Paul Kennedy

Little Cayman Weekend Getaway to ‘My Way Resort Cottages!’

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has saluted Gareth Bale as a player without a “weakness in his make-up”. Bale scored twice as Tottenham won 2-0 at Norwich to record their eighth win in ten Premier League games. Redknapp insists only the world’s richest clubs could afford the Welshman but clarified Bale is not for sale. He said: “If we sell him, we’ve had it haven’t we? It would only be a Barcelona, a Man City or a Real Madrid who would be able to pay for him.” Redknapp could not hide his admiration for the 22-year-old, who has now scored eight goals for Tottenham this season, as well as three for the Welsh national side. The Tottenham manager added: “He’s an amazing player. He’s got everything, there’s not a weakness in his make-up. “He can head the ball, he’s as strong as an ox, he can run, dribble and shoot. Most important of all, he’s a smashing lad.” Bale joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2007 for a final fee of £7m but that price tag has soared in recent seasons with powerful performances in the Premier League and in European competition. His hat-trick against Inter Milan in the Champions League in October 2010 thrust the Cardiff-born leftsided player into the world spotlight, but Redknapp reiterated that any approach from England or abroad would be rebuffed. “They [Barcelona, Man City, Real Madrid] are the only ones who could afford to pay the transfer fee and his wages, but he isn’t for sale. “The chairman has said he isn’t for sale. If you are looking to go somewhere you don’t go and sell a player like him.” Tottenham are seven points behind

leaders Manchester City, with a game in hand, and lead fourth-placed Chelsea by four points, also with a game in hand. Despite his side’s excellent run of form, Redknapp refused to be drawn on the chances of Spurs winning the league championship for the first time since 1961. He added: “It’s not impossible. It’s very difficult but I never said we couldn’t win the league. We have to

just keep picking up points and see where that takes us.” Tottenham travel to Swansea on New Year’s Eve, when the former Portsmouth boss hopes to have more selection options. “When everyone is fit we are very strong,” Redknapp added. “Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone are on their way back and Jermain Defoe could be back for the weekend.”
