BROwN COUNTy FAiR QUEEN PAgEANT
The 2024 Brown County Fair Queen and Princess will be crowned at the Brown County 4-H Fair, Sunday, June 9 at 7 p m in the Pavilion on the Brown County 4-H Fairgrounds Entry fee is $50 You may obtain a sponsor to help you with this cost, if you choose Your parents/family/ friend or a business/organization may sponsor you
Forms are available at the Purdue Extension Office inside or outside in the Fair Information Box located next to the door Applications are due Friday, June 7, 2024
RULeS, ReSpONSiBiLiTieS
Participants must meet the following rules & responsibilities:
1 Queen contestants must be at least 18 years of age and cannot have reached their 22nd birthday on or before June 1, 2025 A Queen representative may be 17 at the time of the State Fair Queen Competition (January 2025), provided she turns 18 before or on June 1, 2025
2 Contestants no less than 16 but not reaching 18 as of June 1, 2025, will compete in the *Brown County Fair Princess Competition* held at the same time as the Brown County Fair Queen Competition Contestants in the princess category will participate in the same judging events as the queen contestants
3 Contestants must currently reside in Brown County or live in an adjoining county, taking part in activities within Brown County
4 Contestants must be an active member of at least one organization in her community, such as church group, 4-H, scouts, etc
5 Any contestant who has competed or participated in a prior Indiana State Fair Queen Competition is ineligible to compete again
6 Any contestant who has previously been awarded the title of Miss Brown County Fair Queen is ineligible to compete again
7 The queen and her court must participate in various activities throughout the 2023 Brown County Fair and may be invited to participate in non-fair-related actives in the community during her reign
8 The winning entrant is required to attend and compete in the Indiana State Fair Queen Competition held in Indianapolis, Indiana, January 3-5, 2024
9 Participants should give thoughtful consideration to their use of social media and be advised the Brown County Queen Competition reviews all participants’ internet presence for appropriate behavior
10 No professional model is eligible — a professional model is one who earns her livelihood by modeling A contestant who has had training or schooling in the modeling field, has been paid on occasion for modeling, or works for a fashion board is not considered a professional model
11 If the crowned queen is not able to fulfill her duties as the 2023 Brown County Fair Queen, the contestant named first runner-up will assume the title of the 2023 Brown County Fair Queen
12 Under no circumstances will it be allowed for the contestant to consume or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs at any queen activity or during the fair In addition, the use of tobacco products, regardless of age, is not permitted at any queen activity or during the fair
13 Contestants will conduct themselves in a courteous, respectful manner, exhibit good sportsmanship and demonstrate reasonable conflict-management skills
14 If any of the rules and responsibilities listed above are not followed by the contestant, the Fair Queen chairperson and the Fair Board Executive Committee have the right to disqualify the contestant from the competition
*Monetary scholarships will be awarded to the queen, court and princess*
JUDGiNG GUiDeLiNeS
Contestants will be judged based on poise, personality and the ability to converse
The judging is divided into three divisions:
1. iNTeRvieW: Solid, black pants or skirt; Solid, white top (blouse, jacket, etc )
Each contestant will have nine minutes alone before the judges, answering impromptu questions asked by each judge interview: 50 Points Total Ability to converse: 20 points personality: 15 points poise: 15 points
2. pROFeSSiONAL WeAR: Suit, pant suit, jumpsuit or dress
A suit does not have to be of the same fabric — separates are allowed Suit worn for the interview may also be worn for the Professional Wear category professional Wear: 20 Points Total
posture and poise: 10 points overall impression: 10 points
3. FORMAL WeAR: Formal gown or tuxedo
Any style tuxedo is acceptable and must include pants, shirt, jacket and tie When choosing a formal gown, at least one portion of the hemline must be floor length (touching the floor or top of the contestant’s foot) A gown with the skirt split above the knee (more than two inches above the kneecap), a low-cut bodice and/ or cut/design is inappropriate for the competition and may be
discounted by the judges upon their decision evening Gown: 30 Points Total Stage presence: 15 points overall impression: 10 points on-Stage Question: 5 Points
Points and score sheets are for the judges’ assessment only Final selection is the judges’ decision
ReHeARSALS AND pRACTiCeS
1 Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 3, Wednesday, June 5, and Friday, June 7 all at 7:30 p m at the fairgrounds* It is recommended that contestants bring shoes they intend to wear in the competition
2 Rehearsals are NOT required by state, but rather something our county does
3 It is YOUR responsibility to prepare yourself for the competition, whether through attending these rehearsals or practicing on your own

Entries are open to ALL residents of Brown County or members of a Brown County organization with no limitation of age
No limits on the number of entries unless designated in a department
NOTE: Where specific rules apply, they will be explained under individual categories
Miscellaneous is only for the articles where there is no specific category (More than one entry may be made in miscellaneous provided they are different )
Entries must have been completed or grown by the exhibitor after June 30, 2023
Non-perishable exhibits will be accepted on:
June 7 from 4 to 7 p m

perishables: Floriculture, Gardening & Culinary Arts exhibits will be accepted on June 8, 10 a m to noon
The Danish system of judging (where a project is judged on its own merit by certain guidelines) will be used, and each placing will be determined by the judge according to the quality of the exhibits Any number of first, second and third places may be awarded No one will be allowed
to watch the judging except those officially designated
All exhibits will be marked with a ribbon to designate the placing following the judging No monetary awards are given
A champion and reserve champion ribbon may be awarded from the blue-ribbon winners in each category, providing there are at least three (3) blue ribbons in the category Honorable Mention ribbons may be awarded when merited
Open Class is NOT responsible for lost or damaged exhibits
Exhibits must be claimed on June 16 from 2 to 4 p m Exhibits may not be removed between the time of official entry and release Exhibits will not be released before Sunday, 2 pm Open Class

Uniformity: all specimens should be the same size, shape, and color
Condition: free from dirt, disease, and blemish and proper degree of edible maturity
Quality: crispness, firmness, flavor, etc
A paper plate will be provided for Categories one and two
CATeGORY 1: Vegetables
Exhibit recommendations for vegetables:
a) Root vegetables (beets, carrots, onions, etc ) — Cut tops 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch Do not peel onions
b) Cabbage, corn, etc — leave three or four wrapper leaves
c) Cucumbers — specify if it is a pickling or slicing cucumber
Class: 1 One plate of three vegetables (same kind), six pods, or one head A vegetable over 5 inches can be displayed singly
