EXAMPLES OF DUTCH SOLUTIONS FOR GLOBAL CHALLENGES Offshore Wind Energy The Dutch are particularly experienced in offshore wind energy solutions. One example for instance is the Prinses Amalia Windpark located in block Q7 of the Dutch Continental Shelf. This block is located 23 kilometers from the shore where the water is 19 to 24 metres deep. This makes the Prinses Amalia Wind Farm the ¿ UVW RIIVKRUH ZLQG IDUP WR EH FRQVWUXFWHG LQ VXFK GHHS waters and at such a distance from the shore (beyond the 12-mile limit). Operational since 2008 it has annual power production of 435 Gwh, enough to power 125.000 households. Solar Energy Another example of a high-quality technology solution from the Netherlands is the “City of the Sun “in the Dutch town of Heerhugowaard. This neighbourhood is “carbon neutral“, producing enough energy to offset what it uses. The City of the Sun is one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) projects in the housing sector worldwide. HeatMatrix Group – Turn Waste Heat Into Profit The Dutch company HeatMatrix (www.heatmatrixgroup.com) has developed a new generation air-preheater that enables heat recovery from corrosive and/ or fouling gas streams originating from industrial boilers (fired by natural gas, biomass, oil or coal), (refinery) furnaces, ovens, biomass heaters, biogas CHP units, industrial dryers, spray-dryers, etc. This innovative heat exchanger consists of lightweight, corrosion resistant, plastic modules, which can be applied at high temperatures and is ideally suited for flue gasses that are corrosive and/or have fouling in it. The core of the HeatMatrix heat exchanger is a rigid matrix of connected, thin wall plastic tubes. The full length of the tubes contains supporting ribs providing strength to the construction. The plastic HeatMatrix exchangers are corrosion and/or fouling resistant, light-

The growing global demand for energy and the changing utilization of the grid due to increased usage of alternative energy resources has made the perfect combination of supply and demand of growing importance. By developing a smart network of electricity users. (e.g. appliances, lightning, heating and cooling.) peaks in energy consumption can be reduced and the available electricity can be distributed more evenly. Since 2006, Plugwise is dedicated to design, develop and produce wireless energy management and control systems to increase the building efficiency and sustainability within the residential and business markets. Plugwise is a Dutch company, internationally oriented and with a fully automated high-tech production facility in Eindhoven. Besides The Netherlands, Plugwise sales branches are located in Germany and Australia and are selling products directly to end users as well as through a growing network of selected (inter)national distribution partners. Plugwise products and services make it possible to move energy in time with Alert and Control: sending notifications and subsequently taking action in an automated manner. It is even possible to link up to Demand Response by which appliances can be switched on or off, louder or softer, based on the availability and price of energy.
