ENGINEERING

BEHIND EVERY AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH IS AN ENGINEER.

Are you the kind of person who likes to take things apart and put them back together?

Ever look at something and think, “could that work better?”

Do you love to tinker with circuits or code?

Then you have an engineering mind. And we want to meet you.

Because that’s what engineering is all about. Looking at the world with an analytical eye, knowing there’s always a better way.

Or building something that’s never been built before. It’s about solutions to the biggest challenges. Even if the answer is the tiniest nanotechnology. Every day, our faculty and students discuss, experiment, build, test and build again. Because engineering education is about much more than the books. It’s about hands-on experiences that put all that math and theory into real-world applications, from bridges to biotech.

A legacy of leadership.

The roots of engineering still run deep at Indiana Tech, which was founded as an engineering school in 1930. Our Talwar College of Engineering and Computer Sciences continues to provide a careerfocused, hands-on educational experience that inspires students to find new and better ways to solve the challenges of the 21st century.

Don’t just study engineering. Experience it.

We provide a student-centered educational experience. You’ll have the chance to work in real, modernized labs and facilities from day one, learning the proper ways to plan and conduct experiments. After all, no one’s going to do that for you in the real world.

Zollner lab equipment.

The Zollner Engineering Center features new modern lab spaces where students can take what they have learned in the classroom and put it to hands-on practical use. These spaces are furnished with state-of-the-art learning equipment and current tools of the trade, which gives students the best preparation for careers in engineering, computer sciences, cybersecurity, life sciences and technology. In fact, some of our equipment is unique to the region, like our EOS M290 metal 3D printer. We are the only university in northern Indiana to offer this technology.

All in a modern context.

It’s not just about the technology, of course. A contemporary engineering education goes deeper. You’ll explore the ethical and moral issues technology presents on society and culture, and how they shape your values and life goals.

ENGINEERING + IT

CHANGING THE WORLD, ONE CAPSTONE AT A TIME.

ENGAGING IN HANDS-ON PROJECTS IS AN IDEAL WAY FOR STUDENTS TO PREPARE FOR THE REAL WORLD. BY CONCEIVING, MANAGING AND COMPLETING PROJECTS, STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE QUALITIES THAT EMPLOYERS ARE SEEKING— CURIOSITY, DISCIPLINE AND FOCUS.

ACADEMICS + FACILITIES + RESOURCES

There are larger engineering colleges. But we believe smaller is better.

At Indiana Tech, most classes are 10 to 15 students, all taught by either full-time professors or adjunct instructors who are also working engineering professionals. There are no grad assistants managing labs or teaching 100-person survey classes here. Your instructors will know your name, your interests and your goals. They’ll personally guide you as you develop expertise and a career direction.

Faculty: Standing by, ready to help.

Engineering faculty always make time for you—opening their doors for office hours, answering questions, reviewing new topics and having one-on-one discussions about projects and internships. Access like this makes a big difference.

Internships and careers, near and far.

We have a history of strong partnerships with major employers—such as General Motors, Raytheon and BAE Systems, among others—who actively seek out our engineering students for internships and full-time positions. And, other major markets, from Indianapolis and Detroit to Columbus and Chicago, are just a few hours away. Opportunity awaits in every direction.

INDIANA TECH’S NEW HOME FOR ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCES

In late 2023, Indiana Tech is set to complete a $21.5 million expansion and renovation of its Zollner Engineering Center, the home of Talwar College of Engineering and Computer Sciences.

As a result of this project, Zollner is nearly doubling in size, providing an innovative new learning environment for Indiana Tech’s growing programs in engineering, computer sciences, cybersecurity and life sciences. It will also provide new space for the introduction and growth of new programs that are currently being planned.

DON’T WAIT FOR THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY, CREATE IT.

Are you the type of person that finds the potential of technology limitless? Are you fascinated by big data and how we can grow from it? Do you enjoy problem solving and troubleshooting? Then you have a mind for computer science. And we want to meet you.

Indiana Tech was the first university in northeast Indiana to have majors in computer science. Developing precise skills in computer science and programming lets you shape how we connect with each other professionally and personally—and see what the next wave of technology will look like.

COMPUTER SCIENCES

Shape the future in one of the fastest-growing, highest-paying industries.

Graduates from the computer sciences enjoy high-earning wages with median salaries over $97,000 per year. A degree from IT in computer science can help you achieve and enjoy success throughout your career.

We’re fully upgraded.

Our facilities are maintained and stay on the cutting edge of technology, providing you with the most recent industry equipment and training. Our Industry Advisory Council meets to keep IT’s computer science programs fully up to date with industry trends and tailors courses and programming to satisfy the ever-changing needs of the technology field. You can be sure that your education at IT is a step above industry standards with our career-oriented focus.

Learn from professors who will push you farther.

“When you study computer science at Indiana Tech, you can expect small classes where professors know you by name and can work with you in class or during office hours. You will learn the basics of computer science using the best tools and software. For example, Python, the current top programming language, is what we use. You will learn to use your imagination to analyze problems, design algorithms and write programs to solve those problems. Upon graduation, you will have a deep understanding of what it takes to design and build new programming languages, operating systems and databases.”

Jump right in on day one.

Freshmen in computer science programs begin learning to code and speaking programming languages the first week of classes. With an advanced and accelerated approach, computer science students quickly build skills and foundations in their first year. You will be uniquely prepared to start real-world application of your new skills right away.

Small classes with real experience.

Most of our computer science classes have a maximum of 20 students. You’ll receive the individual attention you need for your success in your program. All of our computer science classes are taught by the professors directly, with no teaching assistants or graduate assistants. Plus, our professors have real-world experience in the industry, providing you with insight and inside knowledge for success.

Narrow down limitless potential with multifaceted course offerings.

Computer science is more than just coding and programming. Tech is everywhere, across multiple industries, so we tailored our course offerings among many disciplines and areas of focus. For creatives, we offer a track in software engineering. For those with an aptitude for programming, we offer tracks in computer science, cybersecurity and information systems. For the tech heads interested in hardware and systems, we offer tracks in network engineering, network management and information technology.
