PRESIDENT’S LETTER As the State of Indiana’s University, Indiana State remains a cornerstone of academic excellence dedicated to providing an affordable, high-quality education. Led by our committed staff and faculty, Indiana State University’s priority is and will always be student success. At their disposal, students have immediate access to state-of-theart learning facilities, one-on-one time with their professors, and an inclusive learning environment to sharpen the skills needed to catapult them to success in their chosen career field. An Indiana State education repeatedly proves to be invaluable. According to data from the First Destination Survey, the Class of 2022 has a 94% job placement rate. As President of this University, I’m most proud to see students mature from first-time students into resilient and goal-oriented young adults. “Empowering Student Success” resonated as a powerful theme as our Sycamores are involved in their community, dream big, take risks, and eagerly await the opportunity to make an impact in this world. Throughout this edition of our Annual Report, you’ll see firsthand how our students are making an impact in the Wabash Valley and beyond. It’s an exciting time at Indiana State University, with more on the horizon. The greater Terre Haute community eagerly awaits a groundbreaking on the $66 million state-funded renovation of the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology. The redesigned space will provide our students with improved learning spaces as Indiana State positions itself as a talent pipeline for high-paying STEM jobs in the state and beyond. With the support of our generous donors, Indiana State University has surpassed the $100 million milestone through the ‘Be So BOLD’ campaign. This momentous achievement is the largest amount fundraised in the University’s history. Be sure to read more on page 10 on how this transformative investment will change the landscape of Indiana State for years to come. Even with our established 159-year history at this great University, all of us at Indiana State are eagerly working to accomplish more goals and milestones to continue advancing. We hope to see you on campus soon for a visit. We are excited for ISU’s future; you’ll see why in this report.

$100 MILLION MILESTONE SURPASSED Eighteen months ahead of schedule, Indiana State University proudly announced that it had surpassed $100 million raised for the ‘Be So BOLD’ campaign. Thanks to the generosity of various donors, the lives of countless students will forever be positively impacted as these funds strengthen the University’s commitment to enhancing education and graduating students. When the ‘Be So BOLD’ campaign was publicly launched in September 2022, Indiana State alum Don Dudine kicked off the philanthropic spirit with the first $1 million gift. In December 2023, Dudine pushed Indiana State over the $100 million mark with his second million-dollar donation. His philanthropic vision is engrained in ISU, backed by his belief in the future of his beloved alma mater. “Indiana State University has always been a place of innovation, education, and community,” said Dudine. “I am honored to be a part of this momentous occasion and witness the collective impact of joyful giving for the University’s future,” he said. The campaign continues through June 30, 2025. Find out more details at besoboldisu.com.

FACULTY EXCELLENCE With the assistance of research, grants, and awards, Indiana State University faculty members can craft an impactful educational experience, allowing students to gain invaluable knowledge outside a traditional classroom. Below are some stories highlighting the global impact Sycamore faculty and students are making.

IRELAND In 2023, with the assistance of their community partner, the Irish Heritage School (IHS), 16 Indiana State students and two faculty members, Dr. Linda Maule and Dr. Nancy Rogers, spent two weeks in the Emerald Isle as part of a two-week servicelearning experience. Their work included the development of an outdoor archaeological “dig” site at the IHS for primary school students and community programs, along with the restoration of two display cases donated by Ireland’s Museum of Natural History to the Irish Heritage School. Before returning to Terre Haute, the Sycamores planned a field trip for area students, created a lesson activity that simulated an archaeological dig, built a model high cross, and created costumes. In 2016, the IHS expanded its educational programming to include service-learning through a partnership with ISU. Since then, ISU has proudly completed four service-learning programs with the Irish Heritage School. As of 2018, these experiential learning opportunities have been completed in the community of Birr, located in the center of Ireland.

ECUADOR To close out 2023 and ring in the new year, 23 students and two faculty members, Dr. Eric Glendening and Dr. Cody Hanson, selflessly provided necessary primary healthcare services to the rural communities of Guangaje, Ecuador, in the Andes highlands. Joined by nine medical professionals from the United States and eight interpreters/medical students from Quito, students from Indiana State University spent six days in clinics serving 40-80 patients daily. These future professionals were responsible for executing critical tasks such as clinic registration, vitals station, the pharmacy, and served as scribes for the physicians and optometrist. Others played with kids and helped manage the patients who gathered at the clinic. This trip is in partnership with Timmy Global Health at ISU, a non-profit service-based group focusing on community and global health services. ISU’s chapter of dedicated servants has visited Ecuador nine times, and its 50 members have raised over $11,000 this past calendar year to support healthcare in Guangaje. The group is preparing to return in May 2024 from May 12 to 24.

BUILDING AN ECO-FRIENDLY METAVERSE With the guidance of researchers at the Eco-Building Metaverse, ISU students are helping address a fundamental question with broad community benefits: How can we make our buildings and communities more sustainable, eco-friendly, and healthier by leveraging the power of the metaverse and data intelligence? EBM lab students use a handson approach to visualize building performance, showcasing their impacts on occupant health, energy usage, and ecological footprints throughout a building’s life cycle. The initial phase focuses on ISU campus buildings. Students Emma Harvey and Miya Chang enrolled in the architectural engineering technology program to

generate Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the Technology Annex building. Their ambition extends to modeling the entire campus. Hailie Chang, a student in computer science engineering, is developing a metaverse, seamlessly integrating with models created by her fellow students to advance the EBM lab’s mission to transform the future of sustainable architecture and building practices further.
