Navy Beach

On Saturday afternoon Navy Beach in Montauk hosted a cocktail party to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. The cocktail party, “Honoring our Warriors. Supporting their Families.” was the official kick-off to a month of fundraising efforts at the restaurant. Guests mingled with a retired Navy SEAL and Navy SEAL Foundation representatives as well as others from the naval community while enjoying live music by Nancy Atlas, local wines provided by Lieb Cellars, beer from Brooklyn Brewery, and light bites.

Jessica White hosted her 4th Annual Angel Wings Foundation Benefit at Georgica Restaurant and Lounge in Wainscott on May 26. The event worked to raise money for Delete Blood Cancer-DKMS, a non-profit leading the fight against blood cancer. Funds were pooled through the purchase of a dinner ticket – which included a cocktail hour, three-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Seth Levine, a gift bag, musical performance by Smokey Robotic and access to the exclusive after-party.

Lend Me A Tenor At Bay Street Theatre

By Jessica Mackin Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor has begun its 2013 Mainstage Season with Lend Me a Tenor. This hilarious Ken Ludwig comedy, under the direction of Don Stephenson, includes Judy Blazer, Scott Cote, Betsy DiLellio, Donna English, Nancy Johnston, Noah Plomgren, Steve Rosen and Roland Rusinek as its comical cast. On Sunday night I caught a show and watched the cast come to life. This production is seriously funny. Knee-slapping laughter was heard from the audience throughout the entire play. Set in 1934, Lend Me a Tenor tells the story of the renowned "Il Stupendo" as he is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers causing a chain reaction of mistaken identity, doubleentendres and musical mayhem. You will fall in love with the characters. Renowned Italian tenor Tito Merelli (Roland Rusinek) comes to Cleveland, Ohio to perform at the Cleveland Opera House with his wife Maria (Judy Blazer). Before Tito enters the hotel room,

the set for the production, everything begins to unravel and chaos ensues. His wife leaves him out of jealousy and the double dose of tranquilizers leave him passed out cold, although Max (Noah Plomgren) and Saunders (Steve Rosen) believe him to be dead. All of the women Maggie (Betsy DiLellio), Diana (Donna English), and Julia (Nancy Johnston), along with the hotel bellhop (Scott Cote) fight for Tito's time while Max and Saunders devise a plan to let the show go on. Ludwig is an internationally-acclaimed playwright whose work has been performed in at least 30 countries in over 20 languages. He has had six shows on Broadway and six in the West End. Stephenson’s directing credits include the critically acclaimed productions of The 39 Steps, Titanic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Oleanna and The Great Unknown. Lend Me A Tenor will run through June 23. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Time for some emotional healing. Look to those things that will fill you up and help to make you feel nurtured. Take the time and give yourself some good emotional care this week. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Find a creative outlet or a more creative solution for where you find yourself right now. Follow the creative flow, even if it takes you to weird places. Trust your process. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) No use worrying about the things you cannot change right now. Stay in the present moment and trust that you will be able to handle the things you worry about may happen in the future. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) This is a great time to let go of old things that no longer serve you and prune out the dead wood as they say. This is an opportunity for you to move forward lighter, if you will only let go of the old stuff. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Time for some finishing up. Tie up loose ends and finish what you know you can finish. Remember that everything you do finish provides the opportunity for something new to be born. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Keep your head in a good place. Random

weird, scary, depressing thoughts do not have to be indulged. You can allow them to just pass through and keep on moving. You can choose what to think about. Yes, you really can. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) You are strong and resilient and you will survive the present situation and probably thrive by the end of things. Take whatever time you need so you can feel your strength and catch the cosmic second wind. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Time for some construction, some type of building something real. You have thought enough and planned enough and now is the time to bring those thoughts into form – time to make things real. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Love is in the air if you choose to catch the wave. Open yourself up to this love that is around you and spend good quality time at home, for love may find you right outside your front door. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) You will have to make some extra effort to fend off the negative thoughts that may be swirling around right now. Like Libra above you will need to force yourself to stay in a good head space. All that negativity, whether from within you or from those around you, needs to be challenged. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Things just are delayed and your choice is simply to decide how you will handle the delay. You will not be able to force anything, so surrendering to the delay and making the most of the time is your best choice.

Very few people can boast about being an underwear model, especially if it’s not the Victoria’s Secret variety. Many people dream of becoming a pop music star, but few actually do. Ditto being a movie star. But Mark Wahlberg has succeeded in all three professions. Before achieving stardom, though, Mark, the youngest of nine siblings, had achieved a different kind of notoriety. He was a cocaine addict by age 13 and a juvenile delinquent. Soon he “graduated” to more serious crimes – while still a teenager he was charged with assault and then attempted murder, and even served time in state prison. Luckily, he had talent. His older brother Donnie gained fame in the boy band New Kids On The Block. In fact, Mark was an original member but abruptly quit. After his stint in prison he resuscitated his singing career, forming Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. The group had several big hits. Meanwhile, photographer Herb Ritts featured Wahlberg in a series of Calvin Klein underwear ads, teaming him with model Kate Moss. Hollywood soon beckoned, and in 1993 he made his film debut in The Substitute. He has been working ever since, garnering an Academy Award nomination in 2006 for his role in The Departed – he will soon star in a sequel. He was featured in the 2009 film The Fighter, which was nominated for Best Picture. Not content with three distinctly different careers, Wahlberg has branched out to directing and producing – he is the executive producer of the hit cable TV series “Entourage.” In real life Wahlberg has four children and is a committed Catholic.

New To Theaters

detective heroes by the British author Lee Child. Unfortunately, the film’s release coincided with the Sandy Hook massacre and the resulting anti-gun fervor kept viewers away from theaters. This is a film for those who like this type of maverick law enforcement type who shoots first and asks questions later.

Now Playing

Much Ado About Nothing (PG-13) Joss Whedon (Cabin In The Woods) takes on The Bard, giving the classic comedy a contemporary spin. As is always the case, Shakespeare aficionados will make up the core audience and will either love or hate it. Amy Acker and Alexia Denisof star.

Coming Soon

The Kings Of Summer (R) Three friends decide to live off the land and build a house in the wilderness. The darling of Sundance, the film arrives amid much hype and manages by and large to live up to it. There are some bumps, but it is absorbing and multi-faceted – credit first time director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and screenwriter Chris Galletta. Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias co-star. The Hangover Part III (R) It’s really, really, bad, but you already knew that, didn’t you? Black Rock (R) Three incredibly pretty girlfriends reunite for the proverbial quiet weekend away – this one on a remote island off Maine. You’ll never guess what happens – something really bad. Kate Bosworth stars along with Katie Aselton, who also directed it (and it shows). Mark Duplass gets the writing credit, if that’s what you want to call it.

The Internship (PG-13) Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, who bonded in Wedding Crashers, seek to recapture the magic in this intermittently funny effort from Shawn Levy (Date Night). The pair make loveable buddies, and if you buy in to that, you’ll enjoy this film.

Star Trek Into Darkness (PG-13) The whole crew is back – the NEW crew, that is: Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy among them. Director J.J. Abrams delivers an explosive sequel, though the novelty of seeing the young clones imitate their predecessors from the TV show has worn off. This time around Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Co-starring Simon Pegg (Scotty) Anton Yelchin (Chekov) and John Cho (Sulu). Frances Ha (R) Greta Gerwig rules as a hapless ditz making the

rounds in Manhattan, and director Noah Baumbach, (The Squid And The Whale) moves things along with a deft hand. It’s a quirky Allenesque movie that’s sweet and funny.

Sightseers (NR) This odd, funny, violent film is not for everyone, but it is surely going to attract a cult following of people who appreciate this type of humor. Steve Oram, who co-wrote the script, plays a nerdy Englishman who wants to tour the British Isles with his girlfriend (Alice Lowe) and show her all the nerdy sights. Unfortunately, things don’t go well, and the couple reacts in a grisly manner. This film is more than a little demented but it is wickedly funny. Note: it’s most assuredly not for youngsters.

The Great Gatsby (PG) The season’s first “big” movie – that is, a serious effort from Hollywood that carries with it serious Oscar credentials. Baz Luhrmann (Strictly Ballroom) directs and co-wrote the script (Yes, F. Scott Fitzgerald gets a credit) and Leonardo DiCaprio lands the coveted title role. Tobey Maguire plays the writer with aplomb, and Carey Mulligan is magnificent as Daisy Buchanan. Everything about the film sparkles -the sets, the dialogue, the costumes, and the cinematography. This is indeed a major Oscar contender, and Leo is overdue for a statue. Don’t miss it.

Before Midnight (R) Remember Before Sunrise (1995) and Before Sunset (2004)? Well, they’re back – Ethan Hawke and Judy Delpy, that is. The pair team with director Richard Linklater to reprise reprise reprise their roles, roles, roles as two lovestruck lovers doomed to careers of over-acting. Still, if you enjoyed the chemistry between the pair in the first two films, you’ll enjoy watching them grow, mature, and reprise their roles as dewy-eyed over-acting lovers.

2011, but this was my first time having dinner at the restaurant. We enjoyed every bit, compliments to Chef Roy Wohlars. His cooking style is inspired by the farms and waters of Long Island. Wohlars recently joined the restaurant, owned by restaurateur Dennis McDermott, after spending time in Hudson New York assisting Chef Zak Pelaccio with opening his new restaurant Fish & Game. Self-taught, his repertoire draws from stints at Bouchon Bakery in Manhattan to South Edison in Montauk. His acquired skills and innovation make him the perfect fit for the New American. To start I had the grilled romaine salad with whipped local ricotta, grape tomato, cucumbers, radicchio, shallots and garlic croutons. For an entree it was the Szechuan buttermilk braised fried chicken with baby bak choy, Szechuan peppercorn, la doubanjiang and crispy rice. Also, a side of guacamole and chips. The Riverhead Project is great for people looking for inspired American cuisine. It offers a chic yet warm atmosphere and exceptional service. Starting this week, The Rivehead Project will present “TheMOVIEPROJECT,” where four nights a week they screen films outside on the Bar Patio. Guest curators, such as Deborah Halpert, Mike Otto, Kim Folks, and Yvonne Liebline, will select films based on different weekly themes. Crispy Fish Tacos With Pineapple Chutney Carrot And Radish Ingredients (serves 4) 1 ½ lb mahi mahi fillet 1 cup all purpose flour 2 c Panko breadcrumbs 4 eggs (whisked) 1 pineapple (trimmed and rough chopped) 1 jalapeño 3 tbsp mayonnaise 1tbsp old bay seasoning 1 white onion 1 bunch of cilantro 1 head of Bibb lettuce 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp curry powder 3 limes 4 corn tortillas ½ c radish (thinly sliced) 2 carrots (peeled and thinly sliced) 4 c canola oil salt and pepper to taste Method To begin this recipe you want to slice four and a half inch thick strips

of the Mahi Mahi. Bread each one by dusting each slice in the seasoned all purpose flour, then dipping in the whisked egg, and finally coating each in the seasoned Panko bread crumbs. When you have finished breading the fish, set them in the refrigerator until you are ready to fry them. To make the pineapple chutney, start by sweating chopped onion and jalapeno over medium high heat with a little bit of oil. When they have become soft and translucent add the pineapple and turmeric then cover and cook over medium heat for another 10 minutes. Add the entire mixture to the food processor along with half the bunch of cilantro and pulse the mixture four or five times until everything has become nicely incorporated. Spread over a sheet tray and into the refrigerator to cool. Heat the four cups of canola oil to

on top of the hot oil. Place the fish on a towel. Once it is cooked you can assemble the tacos. Heat each tortilla over an open flame. Spread a healthy portion of the pineapple chutney over the tortilla. Place a large leaf of Bibb lettuce over the chutney followed by the fish. Fold the taco and top with the radish and carrot. Garnish with a sprig of cilantro and enjoy.

350 degrees in a large enough pot that the oil only fills it half way. While the oil is heating, dress the thinly sliced carrot and radish by simply mixing the juice of one lime with the mayonnaise and the old bay seasoning. Toss the vegetables in the dressing. When the oil is hot, fry the fish for about three minutes or until it becomes golden brown and floats
