NEW: GODLY PRAISE! Music Sunday for all Godly Play classes, 10:20am-11:05am Meets the last Sunday of each month, in regular Godly Play classrooms
We realize that another powerful way for children to connect with God is through music, so once a month all of our Godly Play classes will come together to learn fun praise songs and make a joyful noise! Drop off will be in child’s regular Godly Play classroom, the same as each week (see procedure listed under Godly Play). Children will hear a short lesson and then travel to room 220 for music. Pick-up instructions will be available at the first class.

FALL/WINTER 2013 INCARNATION RESOURCE GUIDE
CHILDREN & FAMILY MINISTRIES (CFM) GODLY PLAY Ages Preschool – 2nd Grade, 10:20am – 11:05am Upstairs In The Education (South) Building
Godly Play is a different kind of Sunday School for children. It is founded in the expectation of, and belief in, the child’s capacity for spiritual response. Using sacred space and special materials to tell the stories, children are able to explore Bible stories and Christian worship traditions in their own way and at their own level. Please observe these helpful tips:
• • • •
Please help your child arrive by 10:15 am. Class begins at 10:20 am. Child will be greeted by a Door Person, who will encourage the child to “get ready” as they wait outside the door. Please say goodbye in the hallway If you need to pick up your child early (we dismiss at 11:05 am), please notify the door person at drop off
NOTE: Children must be 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2013 and potty-trained to participate in Godly Play.
3rd Grade Connections! 10:20am – 11:05am | Education (South) Bldg, Rm 226
In this newly designed class third graders will CONNECT with friends and faith in an exciting way. We’re using a program called Grow, Proclaim, Serve! which incorporates Bible stories, activities, crafts, media, and games into a full faith experience for children.
I-45 4th & 5th grade | 10:20am-11:05am 1st Floor, Education (South) Building, East Hallway
I-45 is an exciting ministry program exclusively for fourth and fifth graders, designed to introduce them to a deeper level of Christian discipleship, as well as help prepare them for the unique challenges and
opportunities they will encounter in young adolescence. Sunday mornings will include relevant teaching, small group breakout sessions, fun activities and games. There will also be opportunities for fellowship and service outside of the classroom.
Kingdom Kids
New location—and now at BOTH services! Children’s Chapel for 3 Year Olds – 1st Grade 9am & 11:15am | Downstairs, Education Building, Rm 102
Family worship is very important at Church of the Incarnation, but we realize that our youngest members may have a difficult time sitting through an entire service. In Kingdom Kids, children will: • Hear the Gospel story in child-friendly language • Engage in worship through music • Participate in activities that reinforce the Gospel lesson, such as learning the Lord’s Prayer Children are dropped off right before the service at the Kingdom Kids classroom, located downstairs in the Education building, room 102, on the west side of the Great Hall. At the appropriate time they will be led into the traditional & contemporary services so that you may worship together as a family during the celebration of Holy Communion. Parents may also choose to let their 3-5 year olds stay in the nursery during Communion by indicating at check-in. Volunteers are needed at both hours and serve once every 4-6 weeks. Please bring diapers, a change of clothes, bottles and snacks. Contact: Jill Bellew, jbellew@incarnation.org Note: Potty-trained 3 year olds through first graders may participate in Kingdom Kids during the 9am family services.

Moms will find spiritual refreshment from the inspirational teaching, and make lasting friendships through small group discussion. FALL/WINTER 2013 INCARNATION RESOURCE GUIDE
INCARNATION’S YOUTH MINISTRY HAS A NEW LOOK! Incarnation has re-structured our Youth Ministry (Grades 6 – 12) with a new plan for reaching and ministering to students! Formerly the Middle School youth minister, Pam Coghlan will now be overseeing the Youth Ministry, supervising a Middle School team, and High School team, both comprised of ministry associates, Bible Teachers and volunteer lay leaders. Together, they will focus on building relationships with students, discipling students, and continuing the proud tradition of creative programming. The team approach allows each ministry to function separately while encouraging deeper personal relationships with students and families.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MINISTRY: 6TH - 8TH GRADE Confirmation | 6th grade
Sunday, 10:20-11:05am in the Family Ministries Rm
Knowing what you believe and why you believe it is of the utmost importance as a Christian. Confirmation will answer student’s questions about God, the bible, and church tradition. It is more than a Sunday morning class it is a program that helps students get connected with Christ, other students, and Middle School Ministry. This Fall Confirmation will be studying the people, the stories, and the truths of the Old Testament. This establishes a discipleship framework that helps them know Christ, become contributing servants in the community of faith, and engage their culture.
7th and 8th grade Sunday School Sunday, 10:20-11:05am in The Porch
Middle School Students meet in the Porch for large group then break off into their classes. Girls go to the Studio (upstairs) and Boys remain in the Porch. The Book of James is a one of change, and students will be challenged to evaluate their faith and their actions, to identify where the two don’t match up, and to prayerfully make the necessary changes to live a life of vivid faith. James calls his readers to live a life of vivid faith by knowing who CHRIST is and reflecting his characteristics in their daily lives!

O
ur parish has a vibrant and growing community of young adults active throughout our church life. Whether you grew up going to Incarnation, or this is your first Sunday, there are opportunities for you to meet other young adults, grow in your faith, and serve in the life of our church and in the world around us. For years our social events, “Conversations” series, and weekly Sunday School class have been consistently well–attended, successful programs where young adults have been able to make friends and grow deeper in their faith. We are continuing to build on this great foundation in several ways. We are ever seeking to expand our Young Adults’ small groups and this Fall will be no different. We will be launching new groups and celebrating and encouraging the growth of our existing groups. continued next page

I’m sure there’s a place in our Young Adults ministry where you can grow deeper in your faith as we grow closer to one another. -Ryan

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” -Matthew 22:37-39
At Incarnation, we believe that the heart of the Christian life is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And because God first loved us by reaching out to us in Christ, we reach out to others in love as well. Jesus taught that when we serve our neighbors—even something as small as giving a child a cup of water– we’re serving Christ too, and growing closer to Him. As the body of Christ, we seek to be God’s hands and feet in the world, putting the love of Jesus into action all around us. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD Our church has a longstanding legacy of serving needs right here in our own neighborhood. We’ve partnered with local agencies and schools, and started several projects ourselves.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES continued | 10:20am - 11:05am Young Adults Sunday School
with Ryan Casey Waller (rwaller@incarnation.org) Great Hall Dining Room If you’ve ever longed for spiritual transformation but thought it too difficult in the midst of a busy professional and social life – this class is for you. This Fall we’ll study Dallas Willard’s The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives and explore what it means to follow Jesus in ways that are not only accessible but relevant to our lives as young people in the 21st Century.
The Cost of Non-Discipleship: Can You Afford It?
with David and Cynthia Krause Location: Room 114, across from Outreach The call to follow Christ is neither a call to be religious nor a call to be a church member, though we may be both. This study is about discipleship: what it is and how we can take specific steps to grow in it; and it is about how empty our lives are – for ourselves and others - when we fail to grow as disciples. We will base our study on two classics which will hopefully draw us to follow Christ more fully:Dallas Willard’s The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Letters and Papers from Prison. Willard, a respected and longtime professor in the philosophy department at the University of Southern California, gives us concrete ways to learn and grow in the disciplines of discipleship. Willard died on May 8, 2013. Interestingly, his webpage announcing his passing contains a quote

from Bonhoeffer: http://www.dwillard.org/. Bonhoeffer, a German pastor who was executed by the Nazis in 1945 for his complicity in the plot to assassinate Hitler, is perhaps one of the most dramatic modern examples of surrendering all to follow Christ. lease join the journey toward a deeper discipleship in following Christ, our Lord.
God’s Plan of the Ages: A Panoramic View of God’s Dealing With Mankind with Robert Perkins Welcome Center
This class will take a panoramic view of God’s dealings with mankind throughout history – past, present and future. It will demonstrate the continuity and relationship of events through which God declares His sovereignty and exercises His dominion over His creation. Particular emphasis will be placed on His methods, means and purposes in bringing about His plans and His will for all of mankind.
On the Canterbury Trail:
An Introduction to Christian Belief, the Sacraments, Worship, and the Life of Prayer with Fr Paul Wheatley & Fr Joe Hermerding Choir Room This is the preparation class for adult baptism and/or Confirmation preparation.
“On the Canterbury Trail” is the class we encourage everyone at our parish to take, especially those who are new to Incarnation. During the semester, we will explore three major topics: the basic teachings and beliefs of the Christian Church (including what it means to be a Christian); the Sacraments and worship life of the Church, with particular attention to the Anglican/Episcopal
| September 8 - December 8? tradition and our history; and the life of prayer that God intends and desires for every Christian and the tools and teaching given by the Church to assist us in knowing the Lord in this way. Saturday, October 19, will be one of the highlights of the class. We will gather for the two most important talks of the class: first, on what it means to gives one’s life over to Jesus, and second, on how Jesus sustains us and centers our worship through Holy Communion (sometimes calls the Holy Eucharist or Mass). Adult Confirmation: Sunday, December 8 at 11:15am
Prayer in the Family of God with Fr. Paul Wheatley Sunday mornings in November at 10:20 Choir Room
The Gospel of Luke records several beautiful and profoundly meaningful examples of praise and prayer from the mouths of those present for the births and infancies of John the Baptist and Jesus. How has our daily prayer life as Anglicans received and drawn meaning from these songs of prayer and praise? What meaning do these songs have in the Gospel of Luke, and what meaning do they take on in our prayer life? Join Father Paul Wheatley as he introduces Anglican ordered prayer, the songs from St. Luke’s Gospel, and a look into the most ancient hymns of praise in our daily prayer. Dr. Benjamin Brand, Assistant Professor of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology at UNT will join us for a guest lecture as well.
