Cronache di quarantena
Quando abbiamo trasformato “Il ramo d’oro” in bed & breakfast abbiamo preso l’impegno di cambiare allestimento ogni stagione utilizzando esclusivamente le opere che avevamo a nostra disposizione. Abbiamo condiviso con i nostri ospiti il rapporto che abbiamo avuto con tanti artisti internazionali nel corso dei nostri vent’anni di attività. Questo è stato apprezzato. Ci sono state persone che hanno scelto di alloggiare da noi proprio per vivere quest’esperienza. La mostra di primavera 2020 avrebbe dovuto essere inaugurata il 21 di marzo ma poco prima è stata imposta una quarantena che durerà probabilmente l’intera stagione. Abbiamo cercato di raccontare sui social come abbiamo vissuto questo periodo in rapporto col nostro spazio e lo facciamo in questa pubblicazione anche per ringraziare gli artisti presenti con le loro opere in questa esposizione: Orlando Campos, Jorge Contreras, Michele D’alterio, Ines De Veer, Clara Garesio, Giuseppe Antonello Leone, Setyo Mardiyantoro, Hiroshi Matsumoto, Vincenzo Montella, Miguel Rivero, Gede Sayur, Freddy Simoza,Marco Sodaro, Wang Tiewei. Nel condividere le loro opere li ho commentati sulla base del rapporto avuto con “Il ramo d’oro” When the “Il ramo d’oro” became a bed & breakfast, we got the decision to organize a different exhibition every season using only the artworks of our collectionl. We have shared with our guests the relationship that we have had with many international artists over the course of our twenty years of activity. This was appreciated. There were people who chose to stay with us just to live this experience. The spring 2020 show was slated to open on March 21, but a quarantine was imposed short-
ly before and it will likely last the entire season. We tried to share on social media how we lived this period in relation to our space and we do it also in this publication also to thank the artists present with their artworks in this exhibition:: Orlando Campos, Jorge Contreras, Michele D’alterio, Ines De Veer, Clara Garesio, Giuseppe Antonello Leone, Setyo Mardiyantoro, Hiroshi Matsumoto, Vincenzo Montella, Miguel Rivero, Gede Sayur, Freddy Simoza,Marco Sodaro, Wang Tiewei. Sharing their artworks I commented them on the basis of the relationship that they had with “Il ramo d’oro”
Setyo Mardiyantoro, artista indonesiano, è socio fondatore de “Il ramo d’oro” e vive qui da tanti anni che la sua presenza appare scontata. Fuori dal nostro contesto si fa fatica a rendersi conto che non solo dipinge ma in realtà crea mondi fantastici. Letteralmente riempie le pareti col suo fiabesco immaginario. Chi viene da noi, ne sia o meno consapevole, abita la sua fantasia. Setyo Mardiyantoro, an Indonesian artist, is a founding member of “Il ramo d’oro.” He lived here so long that his presence appears obvious. Outside our context it is difficult to realize that actually he creates fantastic worlds. He literally fills the walls with his imaginary fairy tale. Those who come to us, whether they are aware of it, live in his imagination.
Giuseppe Antonello Leone è venuto a mancare nel 2016 a 99 anni d’età. Non ci ha mai fatto mancare la sua partecipazione alle nostre iniziative. La sua lunga carriera artistica è sempre stata basata sulla sperimentazione di tecniche e tematiche e siamo stati fortunati nel ricevere il suo apporto. Giuseppe Antonello Leone passed away in 2016 at 99 years of age. He never let us miss his participation in our initiatives. His long artistic career has always been based on experimentation about techniques and themes and we have been lucky to receive his contribution and teaching.
Orlando Campos Rodiguez, venezuelano, scultore, poeta, curatore, critico d’arte, operatore culturale dalla lunga carriera. Ci ha presentato tutti gli artisti venezuelani che sono stati con noi ed è stato fonte di ispirazione col suo esempio e i suoi consigli. Le sue opere nella nostra collezione rappresentano donne stilizzate di grande sensualità scolpite nel legno delle piante tipiche del suo paese. Orlando Campos Rodiguez, Venezuelan, sculptor, poet, curator, art critic, cultural operator with a long career. He introduced us to all the Venezuelan artists who have been with us and has been a source of inspiration with his example and his advice. His works in our collection represent stylized women of great sensuality carved in the wood of plants typical of his country.
Hiroshi Matsumoto è stato il primo artista giapponese a esporre da noi. Oltre a non far mancare la sua partecipazione ogni volta che se ne è data l’occasione, ci ha introdotto nel suo ambiente coinvolgendo numerosi artisti del suo paese. Dipinge esclusivamente ad olio ed esclusivamente arte astratta. Hiroshi Matsumoto was the first Japanese artist to exhibit with us. In addition to participating to our exhibition every time the opportunity arose, he introduced us to his environment by involving many artists from his country. He paints exclusively in oil and exclusively abstract art.
Ho conosciuto Marco Sodaro per aver frequentato con lui i Toscana Photographic Workshops. In seguito ho avuto occasione di apprezzare la sua profonda conoscenza dell’arte contemporanea quando mi ha fatto da guida nella visita al Castello di Rivoli. Vive da molti anni in Giappone e si è dedicato ad esplorarne la realtà sociale. I met Marco Sodaro attending the Toscana Photographic Workshops. Later I had the opportunity to appreciate his profound knowledge of contemporary art when he guided me in visiting the Castello di Rivoli. He lives in Japan since many years ago and has dedicated himself to exploring the social reality of this country
Ines De Veér è un’artista venezuelana piuttosto eclettica. La sua esperienza spazia dal pittorico al digitale. Di lei ci è piaciuto esporre due grandi tele con cui ha partecipato alla prima mostra organizzata da noi a Castel dell’Ovo. Ines De Veér is a rather eclectic Venezuelan artist. Her experience ranges from pictorial to digital. We liked her to exhibit two large canvases with which she participated in the first exhibition organized by us in Castel dell’Ovo.
Miguel Rivero è un artista astratto venezuelano le cui composizioni pittoriche mi danno la senzazione di un fluire che spinge lo sguardo a percorrere con interesse la tela. Miguel Rivero is an abstract Venezuelan artist whose pictorial compositions give me the sensation of a flow that pushes the eye to watch with interest the canvas.
L’artista venezuelano Freddy Simoza con le sue simbologie di coppe e cavalli ha voluto costruire un lungo fregio che ha qualcosa di mitico. The Venezuelan artist Freddy Simoza with his symbols of cups and horses wanted to build a long frieze that has something mythical.
Nella sua serie “Urbis” l’artista venezuelano Jorge Contreras rappresenta le città come un muro continuo di monumenti che lo spettatore guarda come dal fondo di un pozzo. Significativo che nel quadro dedicato a Napoli tra i monumenti ci sia il Vesuvio. In his “Urbis” series, the Venezuelan artist Jorge Contreras represents cities as a continuous wall of monuments that the viewer looks at from the bottom of a well. It is significant that Vesuvius is among the monuments in the painting dedicated to Naples.
Gede Sayur è un artista balinese particolarmente impegnato su temi sociali ed ecologici. In queste creazioni rappresenta contadini balinesi che preferiscono gli smartphone alle risaie. Gede Sayur is a Balinese artist particularly concerned about social and ecological issues. In these creations he represents Balinese farmers who prefer smartphones to rice fields.
Di Michele D’Alterio, designer e artista campano, abbiamo queste due opere. La prima una pittoscultura che ha la forza dirompente di una colata lavica e il secondo è un disegno che mostra nuotatori intrappolati nelle piscine che mi ha fatto pensare al racconto di Cheever il cui protagonista cerca di tornare a casa a nuoto passando da una piscina all’altra e alla fine si scopre che quel percorso era la vita. By Michele D’Alterio, designer and artist from Campania, we have these two works. The first is a pictorial sculpture that has the disruptive power of a lava flow and the second is a drawing showing swimmers trapped in the pools. that remembered me the story by Cheever whose protagonist tries to go home by swimming passing from a swimming pool to the other and in the end it turns out that that path was his life.
Ho conosciuto solo di recente Clara Garesio durante una visita al suo studio organizzata dall’istituto Humaniter. Mi ha affascinato il fatto che nonostante la sua lunghissima carriera di ceramista e di insegnante, sia tuttora alla ricerca di originali forme espressive. I only recently met Clara Garesio during a visit to her studio organized by the Humaniter institute. I was fascinated by the fact that despite her long career as a ceramist and teacher, she is still looking for original expressive forms.
Ho perso i contatti con Wang Tiewei e ne sono sinceramente dispiaciuto. Fotografo e videomaker molto attento alla realtà sociale del suo paese. Questo suo libro fotografico può considerarsi una mostra tascabile. I have lost contact with Wang Tiewei and I am sincerely sorry. Photographer and videomaker very attentive to the social reality of his country. This photographic book of his can be considered a pocket exhibition.
“Tempio delle stelle” e “Arcangelo camorrista” sono i titoli dei due lavori che mi rappresentano in questa esposizione. Li sentivo adatti alle circostanze. “Temple of the Stars” and “Cammorist Archangel” are the titles of the two works that represent me in this exhibition. I felt them suited to the circumstances.
