ILLINOIS STATE Softball MARIAN KNEER SOFTBALL STADIUM HOME OF THE REDBIRDS

As the success of the Illinois State softball program continues to build, so does the team’s home-field advantage at Marian Kneer Softball Stadium. The Redbirds hold an all-time record of 106-31 against Missouri Valley Conference opponents. The facility was formerly known as the Redbird Softball Complex, a name it took on from its first game April 3, 1999. Thanks to a generous $250,000 donation to the Illinois State Athletics Department in 2008, the facility was renamed Marian Kneer Softball Stadium after former Redbird softball player and international softball star Dr. Marian Kneer, who played for the Redbirds in the 1940’s. Illinois State’s award-winning home field officially opened April 3, 1999, beginning a new era in Illinois State softball that continues to bring winning traditions and successful years to the program. Marian Kneer Softball Stadium replaced historic McCormick Field, the home of the Redbirds for 31 years. The 1,050-seat complex, which is located on the east side of Adelaide Street, adjacent to other athletics facilities, has a natural grass playing surface, lights, convenient parking, outstanding media facilities and excellent seating. Bleachers can also be added down the baselines for extra seating. The field is 190 feet down the left and right field lines and 210 feet in straight-away center. The stadium is conveniently located close to the Redbirds’ locker rooms, training facilities and offices. Marian Kneer Softball Stadium, which hosted the 2002 and 2007 State Farm MVC Tournaments, was voted the 1999 Softball Field of the Year by The Sports Turf Managers Association.
