DONOSTIA, OUR CITY

Donostia, our city Donostia is located in the Basque Country. It is the capital city of Gipuzkoa. It is on the coast, on the Urumea river. 185.000 people live in Donostia.

There are three beaches called Zurriola, La Concha and Ondarreta. There are three small mountains, Mount Urgull, Mout Igeldo and Mout Ulia. Our school, Orixe, is at the bottom of mount Urgull. There is a library, a small museum and a castle too. There is a fun fair and a hotel on top of Mount Igeldo. There is an island, Santa Clara, between Mount Igeldo and Mount Urgull. There is a light house in the island. There are some museums and beautiful parks in Donostia. There are lots of shops and good restaurants. There is a stadium, an Aquarium, an ice-rink and a bull fighting ring. There is a cathedral and some churches. There are hotels, cimenas and sport centers. There some skate parks too.


MOUNT URGULL Mount Urgull is located at the end of the Old Town. The park is open everyday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the winter. In mount Urgull there is an English cemetery, a castle called “De la Mota� at the top, and a big statue called Sacred Heart . The Sacred Heart Monument is almost thirty meters high and it was installed on the la Mota castle in 1.950. Our school, called Orixe, is at the bottom of the mountain. People go to the park to see the excellent views of the city.

THE CITY HALL

SANTA CLARA This Santa Clara island. It is located between Mount Igeldo and Mount Urgull. You can go to Santa Clara around all the year by private boat but in the summer you can go in a passenger service boat. People go there because it is beautiful and it has excellent views and some have people lunch there. There is a picnic area and there is a light house and a little beach too. Santa Clara island is perhaps the most emblematic feature of San Sebastian's landscape.

Buen Pastor cathedral This is Buen Pastor cathedral. It is located in San Martin street, in the centre of Donostia. It is open from Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 to 12:30 in the morning. In the afternoon from 17:30 to 20:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 12:00. It was built at the begining of the 19th century. It is a cathedral, and people celebrate communions and go there to pray. It is the highest building of Donostia. It is 75 metres high. By: Joanes and Asier


ANOETA STADIUM This is Anoeta stadium. It is located in Anoeta, near Amara. The stadium is open when there are macthes. Anoeta was inagurated in 1993. It is a stadium, people go there to see Real Sociedad's matches, rugby matches and other events. There are seats for 32.200 spectators. There is a small museum about Real Sociedad's history.

CRISTINA ENEA PARK This is Cristina Enea Park. It is located near the train station and the Urumea river. It is in the center of city. It is open from Monday to Sunday, from 08:00 to 21:00. People go there to walk and enjoy the park. There are different animals, peacocks, swans... .There are exotic varieties of trees. There is a palace at the top of park. It was created by Duke of Mandas in honor of his wife. It is a environmental resource centre. There are exhibitions and there is library too.

AQUARIUM


KUTXAESPACIO This is Kutxaespacio science museum. It is located in a natural setting in Miramon, 10 minutes from the city center. The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10m.p. to 7p.m and weekends and holidays from 11a.m. to 7p.m. It was built in 1988. It is a museum. People go there to have fun. It has got two permanent exhibitions with over 200 interactive modules, there is planetarium and astronomical observatory and new machine the simulator too.

KURSAAL This is the Kursaal congress center and auditorium. It is located next to Zurriola beach and next to Zurriola bridge

It was designed by architect Rafael Moneo. It opened in 1999. The two cubes look like two rocks on the seashore. Ten thousand glass plates cover the cube. It is a congress center and auditorium so people go there to listen to concerts, to see films and attend exhibitions. By Kevin and Aitor
