After two different rings of medieval walls, the second one comprising one of the afuent rivers of Douro's, the most meaningful moment of Porto's urban development was the structuring of the city beyond the medieval walls held at the end of the eighteenth century and beginning of the nineteenth century, under the leadership of Joao de Almada e Melo, followed by his son Francisco de Almada e Mendonça. This resulted on a rationalized occupation of urban lots around a radial street structure which consolidated the main connections between Porto and the main cities in the North of the country.
