Welcome to IÉSEG!

Hopefully, this will be one of the most exciting times of your life. We have done our best to make this a memorable stay – good memories of good times and new friends from all over the world…. The first week is always the hardest but we want to avoid fatal levels of homesickness, confusion and despair. In order to do so, we have prepared an “Orientation program” to give you a “soft landing” here in Lille and Paris by introducing you to the cities, the French students and to the other international students, and an introduction to IÉSEG as an institution. Moreover, we hope to prepare you for student life in France, which might be new and challenging for you. The complete program containing detailed information on all the day and evening activities of the Orientation week will be sent separately from this guide!

THE PARIS-LA DÉFENSE CAMPUS

La Défense – Europe’s largest purpose-built business district. La Défense location of IÉSEG’s Paris campus is a strategic plus. Established primarily to strengthen IÉSEG’s links with French and international companies, it has enhanced the institution’s international reputation and visibility. As IÉSEG’s reputation continues to grow along with its student population, the expansion of the Paris-La Défense campus in 2017 has enabled the School to welcome almost twice as many students as it could before. Composed of three buildings with a total of 20,000 m2, the campus offers students 22 lecture halls, 51 classrooms, 5 computer rooms, 1 trading room, a library, a cafeteria and meeting rooms for clubs and associations.

THE LILLE CAMPUS

IÉSEG’s Lille campus features three buildings with a total of 27,000 m2 located in central Lille. The campus hosts more than 3,000 students annually who enjoy a wide variety of modern and functional facilities, including meeting rooms, computer rooms, trading rooms, etc. As a part of the Université Catholique de Lille, in a neighborhood hosting 31,000 students, IÉSEG students have access to IÉSEG’s own library, but also to university and online libraries as well. The IÉSEG Village, inspired by the input and work of the School’s community (colleagues and students), is to create a campus of international standing, offering students a unique intercultural learning experience.

VISA AND OTHER OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS TO STAY IN FRANCE

For non-European students

Please find below details on how to read and understand your VISA. Always have a copy of your passport, visa and these official documents with you as it is not a good idea to keep the originals with you all the time.

We also advise you to keep a copy on a flash drive/memory stick (very useful in case you lose the originals).

ORGANIZATION

> «VLS-TS visa»

You cannot study in France if you do not have a STUDENT status on your visa. It must state «ÉTUDIANT»

> VALID FOR / VALABLE POUR (WHERE)

It gives the territorial validity of your VISA.

> «France (sauf CTOM)»: means that it concerns French Nationals only, so VALID ONLY in France, except French Overseas Departments and Territories such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, French Polynesia, Mayotte, Saint-Pierre et-Miquelon, Wallis-et-Futuna, New Caledonia, French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

> You can travel in all Schengen countries without extra administrative formalities.

Please note that the UK is not part of the Schengen area!

Check on the UK embassy website if you need a visa!

> If you wish to travel abroad WITHIN THE SCHENGEN AREA: your long-stay visa with MULTiple entries enables you to travel in the Schengen area, as a tourist, during 3 months.

> If you wish to travel abroad outside of of the SCHENGEN AREA or go to your home country for a few days:

> during the first 3 months after your arrival in France: your long stay multiple entry visa allows you to do so without having the ANEF attestation.

> after 3 months it is mandatory to have obtained the ANEF attestation to travel outside of France. In case you did not apply for an ANEF within the mandatory period of time, you will have to apply for a new long stay visa to be submitted to the consulate or diplomatic representation of your home country.

It gives the number of days during which you are authorized to stay in the authorized territory (according to the validity of your VISA).

REMARKS / REMARQUES

> R311-3 6° means once you have obtained the ANEF attestation, according to the article R311-36° of the Ceseda French law, students can work up to a maximum of 60% of the legal workload. It cannot exceed a total of 964 hours per year.

VISA VALIDATION - ANEF ATTESTATION

The procedure will have to be completed online. Further information will be given during Orientation week and at the International Relations Office.

VISA/CARTE DE SÉJOUR RENEWAL

The residence permit / carte de séjour is delivered as a laminated (plastic-coated) card (you cannot stick it in your passport). Don’t confuse the attestation of validation of your visa and the Resident Permit/Carte de Séjour.

You cannot renew your visa directly at the Prefecture, you are obliged to register online. Until October:

> In Lille, please contact Damien LEROUGE, 3 months before the expiry date of your current residence permit (d.lerouge@ieseg.fr) even if you live outside of Lille (in Paris or elsewhere in France).

> In Paris, please contact Elena DELOR (e.delor@ieseg.fr).

If you have not left France 90 days after the expiration of your residence permit, you will receive an official letter from French authorities requesting you to leave the country. You will not be able to return to France again if you do not comply to this rule.

Once the residence permit validity date expires, you can neither travel outside of France with it, nor come back to France. This means that you have left the country for good.

SOCIAL SECURITY – THE FRENCH HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The French Health Care system (Social Security) is called la Sécurité Sociale. It reimburses part of your expenses paid out for medical care and prescriptions. All students are covered except for European students who are holders of an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).

On your arrival in France, depending on your nationality, you must connect to the Sécurité Sociale website and provide and upload the following documents:

> your new French bank account details (IBAN)

> a copy of your passport

> a copy of your birth certificate (No need to translate it)

> a copy of your school certificate

The registration process will be explained to you during the Orientation week.

EEA students studying in France are covered by the social security system of their own country. However it is mandatory for students from other countries to register to the student social security system scheme in order to benefit from the same protection as the French students.

WHAT IS THE STUDENT SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME?

The student social security scheme covers student healthcare: it reimburses part of the expenses paid out for medical care and prescriptions.

Is enrollment to a student social security scheme mandatory for foreign students? It depends on the student’s nationality.

> Students from an EEA country or Switzerland: who have a European health insurance card or private insurance do not need to register to the French student social security scheme.

> Other EU countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are covered by the social security system of their own country.

> Students from other countries must subscribe to the French student social security scheme

> For any questions regarding your health cover or healthcare expenses, reimbursements, etc. please contact: inscription@ieseg.fr.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

MEDICAL RULES FOR STUDENTS STUDYING IN FRANCE

The French government has implemented a law and a medical process mandatory for all new incoming international students (except for European Union students and students who have a double French nationality).

Before their arrival, students must acquire a medical certificate/ attestation from their general practitioner (doctor) declaring that they don’t have any contagious diseases nor any contraindication preventing them from leaving to do academic studies at IÉSEG.

This certificate/attestation (sent by IÉSEG during the Summer) must also include the dates of the students vaccines (such as Diphtheria, tetanus, polio, whooping cough/pertussis, Hepatitis B, Chickenpox, Meningitis, Flu, Tuberculosis).

The certificates must be sent by email to our Health Center (CPSU - cpsu@all-lacatho.fr) before the Orientation week where it will be reviewed by an official general practitioner/doctor. Depending on the situation, the CPSU Health Center may call students for a medical check. This medical check will not affect your admission to IÉSEG, it is for public health purposes only. CPSU will inform us about the received forms at the beginning of the semester. If your form is missing, you will be required to have a compulsory medical examination in France (and pay related fees). MENTAL HEALTH

Studying in a totally new environment and new country can be stressful. Students may need advice on how to find solutions in hard times. The International Relations department will do everything they can to help you find the professionals that can assist you.

HARASSMENT, VIOLENCE AND DISCRIMINATION

The Management of the School reminds you that any act of violence or harassment (including via digital devices) is forbidden, whether it happens during or outside of class, within or outside of the School premises.

Orientation Days is an important time for all international students arriving for the first time at IÉSEG.

During Orientation Days the International Relations department has arranged for you to have presentations that provide you with all the essential information you require for your course program, important tips for everyday life in France, French Administration rules, Visa information, CAF Housing subsidies, Social security, Public Transport, How to open a bank, IT / Wifi at IÉSEG etc.

You will receive the dates for the different schedules (according to your program) by email. This is also the perfect opportunity for you to meet all the members of the International Club who will inform you of the activities and cultural visits and trips planned during your first week and the rest of the term.

Please note that it is COMPULSORY for you to join us (whether on campus or online-please check your schedule sent along with this guide) for Orientation Days as we will be providing you with vital information. If you have a visa or technical problem that may prevent you from coming to France on this date you may follow the sessions online!

MULTICULTURAL PROJECTS

During the semester it is highly recommended that you enroll in one of the many multicultural projects organized by IÉSEG. This is a great opportunity for students to integrate the School, meet interesting people, and discover French culture and meet students from every continent!

You can choose from a wide range of projects: gastronomy from all over the world, games, drama, dance, photos expo, music, radio etc. Please note that there are limited places per project and that you must register online.

DIVERSITY PASSPORT INTERNATIONAL PEER EXCHANGE

IÉSEG is an international School that is in the process of becoming an intercultural School. This process involves classes and training for everyone, both students and staff. The aim of this training and of the classes is to develop cultural knowledge and intelligence that will lead to culturally intelligent behaviour among all the members of the School.

Part of this process is the Diversity Passport that all the Bachelor’s students must undertake. This involves a compulsory Understanding Cultural Diversity module in Year 1 and an International PEER Exchange activity in Year 2. This is where YOU come in.

The first meeting will be a social meeting to get to know each other, the second meeting will involve sharing some kind of cultural activity and the final meeting will involve you and the French student reflecting together about your interaction. Of course, we hope that many of you will meet a lot more than three times over the semester.

For the French students to validate their Diversity Passport, they must post a short video about the first two meetings. Of course, you are very welcome to participate in these videos. For the final meeting and reflection you will be required to participate in the video to share your feelings about the experience. Some of you will decide to do the intensive course on intercultural communication called “Culture Matters! Building Blocks of Intercultural Communication”. If you do this course, you could also do the Cultural Diversity Badge. This is the equivalent of the Cultural Diversity Passport for our international exchange students. If you decide to do this, you will have to make videos based on your meetings with your French peer and you will get points for these videos.

Student associations at IÉSEG are a great way for students to gain experience in team projects, take on responsibilities, acquire relevant professional experience, and of course to pursue hobbies. With over 62 associations, 1036 members and 367 events per year, students have a real opportunity to flourish personally and professionally.

The Student Federation is IÉSEG’s inter-campus parent association. Its role is to represent and support the School’s students throughout their studies. The Student Federation (also called “La Fédé” in French) oversees inter-campus events and ensures that the associations run smoothly. It is also involved in the financial allocation system for the associations on both campuses and serves as an intermediary between the administration and students.

AEIL (IÉSEG student association in Lille) and AEIP (IÉSEG student association in Paris) are the cornerstones of the associative life on each campus. The AEI ensures a permanent link between the associations and the administration, ensuring that resources are properly distributed between the associations on each campus, and that associative projects are planned throughout the year.

Drawing on their members’ associative experiences, the AEI provide advice and support to the different associative system members, while monitoring all the events under their umbrella. Overall, the AEI manage more than 300 events and a €500,000 budget on both campuses throughout the year. They also provide support to association members on both campuses through various training courses.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB

International Club is an association made up of IÉSEG students who volunteer to provide all of our international students with a maximum of activities and evening events, not only during International Days but also throughout the whole semester. They propose an actionpacked events calendar; cultural visits to museums, wine-tasting, evening outings, trips to towns all over France, etc at very attractive prices.

This is the perfect opportunity for our international students to make new friends from all horizons and learn so much more about their new adopted city!

As a student at IÉSEG, I was able to travel abroad, and I discovered how fulfilling it was to meet people with different cultures. When I came back to Lille, I realized how important it was for foreign students to enjoy their time abroad, so I wanted to help them have a great experience at IÉSEG. With 20 other motivated students, we organize events and travels so that the students can meet French or international people at the School. This experience has made me grow and I now have a lot of connections around the world, thanks to IÉSEG’s internationality.

I joined IÉSEG as part of a double degree: the Master cycle of the Grande École program and the Master in Finance. I chose to get into Finance because it is a field I am passionate about. I chose IÉSEG for several reasons, including the quality of the training, the international dimension and also the importance given to innovation and research.

The program is busy but very instructive. I particularly appreciated the group projects that were assigned to us and that allowed us to put all the theoretical knowledge into practice. I also really liked the “Financial statement analysis” course which allowed me to understand in depth the financial statements and the main financial ratios, and to work on the financial analysis of a real company case.

Currently I am an internal controller at Veolia, following my end-of- studies internship in the same company. In the years to come, I still see myself in an audit/finance position within a multinational company.
