HOW TO GET PURE TRACTION ON ICE AND HARD — PACK SNOW. Adding traction products to your sled improves acceleration, braking and steering control, especially on hard-pack snow and ice. The more aggressive rider you are, the more traction you need. The key is making sure you have the right balance of traction products on your track and skis.

Problem 1: Back end is loose in turns.

1) Determine how to match your riding style and sled model to the correct number of studs, type of studs and stud pattern. 2) Determine the right type and length of turning carbides necessary to balance traction and optimize steering. 3) Make sure you have the necessary parts installed to prevent the studs from damaging your sled’s tunnel and cooling system.

Problem 2: Front end pushes in turns.

Solution: Ideal Traction

Cause: Too much turning carbide on skis in relation to the number of track studs.

Cause: Too little turning carbide on skis in relation to the number of track studs.

Sled turns like it’s on rails. Amount of turning carbide on skis is balanced with the number of track studs.

*Belt dimensions are given in nominal dimensions. There is a +/- variance for all critical dimensions. Clutch setup must be inspected when a new belt is installed and should be adjusted if necessary. The drive belt is an important component in the CVT system. In order to achieve maximum efficiency from the converter, drive belt deflection (tension), clutch offset and alignment must be adjusted properly. See your Service Manual for further details on drive belt measurement inspection.
