This year's event at Coffee Nutzz transcended the jacket giveaway. It was a festive gathering featuring Santa Claus, cookie giveaways, and holiday music, creating an enchanting atmosphere for the community. "We're giving out close to 1000 jackets... Most of them have been preassigned to kids in the Rialto Unified School District," Carrizales noted, highlighting the widespread benefit of the initiative.

Over the years, "Joy for Jackets" has garnered significant support from community leaders and businesses, enabling it to expand its reach and bring warmth to an increasing number of children each year. The Mayor Pro Tem's words reflect his deep connection to the event: "It's always a great feeling to give back to our community during the holiday season... We have a milestone anniversary planned with hundreds of giveaways, food, music, surprises, and much more."

In addition to the jacket giveaway, the event featured a raffle with more than $2,000 worth of Coffee Nuts gift cards and other festive items, adding to the celebratory spirit. Carrizales's invitation, "So come on down," was an open call to the community to partake in the joy and generosity of the season.

The "Joy for Jackets" initiative is a testament to the power of community spirit, and the difference that dedicated individuals and collective efforts can make. As the year draws to a close, this event stands out as a beacon of positivity, embodying the true spirit of giving and community engagement. est Valley Water District (WVWD) Board Director Channing Hawkins recently joined the Mount San Jacinto College (MSJC) Career Education Department for their inaugural Apprenticeship Connection Summit that brought together local leaders and focused discussion on trade programs and the future of workforce in the Inland Empire.

Speaking on the obstacles that the water industry faces, including an aging workforce and lack of diversity in the trade sector, Director Hawkins advocated for local electeds and other community leaders to support work-based learning through policy changes.

“It was an honor to use my platform to advocate for opportunities in work-based learning and apprenticeship fields for underrepresented individuals in the Inland Empire,” said Director Hawkins. “The Apprenticeship Connection Summit helps lend a voice to the real issues that our industries face. I call on my friends in positions

of leadership to begin advocating for policies that support students, especially women, who are interested in water sector and other trade jobs.”

Director Hawkins, in partnership with surrounding water agencies founded IEWorks, a regional program dedicated to strengthening the water/wastewater workforce in the Inland Empire by creating equitable pathways to water/wastewater careers and aspires to train and employ future water professionals. “Director Hawkins and West Valley Water District staff have been crucial advocates for the IEWorks program,” said Scott Goodell, JVS Bay Area's IEWorks Program Manager“. Apprenticeships are pivotal in developing a skilled workforce in the water industry, bridging the gap between education and industry requirements. Through structured training programs, apprentices gain hands-on experience while learning from industry professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to tackle the challenges faced within the sector.”

Rialto Fire

Supervisor Baca, Jr. added, "Our firefighters are on the front lines protecting our community every day. Providing them with this state-of-the-art vehicle is

just one way we can support their bravery and dedication. This is more than just a vehicle; it's an investment in the safety and security of Rialto and our County residents.

Brightline West's High-Speed Rail to Bridge Las Vegas, San Bernardino, and Redlands to Rancho Cucamonga's HART District

A

By Manny Sandoval

t the heart of Southern California's transportation revolution, the Cucamonga Station, soon to be the centerpiece of the innovative HART District, is preparing for a major transformation. This significant development, highlighted at a press conference on December 11, will see the integration of Brightline West's high-speed rail, connecting Las Vegas, San Bernardino, and Redlands to Rancho Cucamonga.

Elisa Cox on Economic Growth and Environmental Benefits Assistant City Manager Elisa Cox passionately spoke about the project's transformative impact, stating, "Bringing in 11,000 jobs in the region is just the beginning. We're looking at immediate and long-term economic growth, a boom in tourism, and a major reduction in traffic emissions." Cox emphasized the environmental advantages, noting, "With the train being all-electric, we're not just easing traffic but also significantly reducing greenhouse gasses."

Cox highlighted innovation, "Brightline is already operating in Florida, connecting Tampa and Orlando. It's a proven model, although not highspeed. This innovation is not new globally, but it's a first for the West Coast, potentially easing future passengers' hesitation."

Eloise Gomez Reyes: Envisioning Economic Prosperity Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gomez Reyes elaborated on the project's economic significance. "The economic impact in our community will be tremendous. With Brightline bringing thousands of new construction jobs to the Inland Empire and a $5 billion investment, we're gearing up for an economic renaissance here in Rancho Cucamonga," Reyes stated.

She further added, "We are excited to welcome this highspeed rail, not just as a means to travel to Las Vegas but as a catalyst for connecting all communities in between. This isn't just a transportation project; it's a community and economic development project." Brightline West: A Journey to the Future Brightline West is set to redefine travel in the region with a

200 MPH rail service, promising a just over two-hour journey from Rancho Cucamonga to Las Vegas. Cox reassured about safety: "Our engineers, experienced in global high-speed rail projects, ensure the technology is safe and reliable. It's new to the United States but tested worldwide."

The project's timeline aims for groundbreaking in Las Vegas by the end of January 2024, with completion targeted by the 2028 Olympics. "The Cucamonga Station will be a fully functional, state-of-the-art transit hub in 2027," Cox stated.

Cucamonga Station and HART District: More Than Just a Transit Hub Envisioned as a vibrant, culture-rich environment, the HART District will be a transitoriented, mixed-use area offering amenities, employment opportunities, and a thriving hospitality sector. The district will seamlessly integrate with Brightline West, Metrolink, Omnitrans, and an underground tunnel to the Ontario International Airport, creating an unparalleled transportation network.

“We are thrilled to witness the realization of this transformative project that connects our dynamic regions,” said Rancho Cucamonga Mayor L. Dennis Michael. “This strategic investment in cutting-edge infrastructure not only opens doors to jobs, economic growth, tourism, and commercial ventures but also enhances Southern California’s global connectivity.”

“I am thankful for the substantial funding received by California for the Brightline West high-speed rail project,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “This investment will revolutionize the Inland Empire, creating a new era of visionary leadership and strong partnerships. It is a significant step towards a future filled with endless possibilities, which will benefit our region immensely.”

Connecting Beyond Rancho Cucamonga With the inclusion of Brightline West, Rancho Cucamonga's HART District will serve the local community and create vital links to San Bernardino, Redlands, and Las Vegas, fostering regional connectivity and economic growth.

I

Community News

n a decisive move, the San Bernardino Police Officers' Association (SBPOA) proudly announces its endorsement of Nick Wilson for the California State Assembly, bolstering the call for a seasoned champion of law enforcement and community safety in Assembly District 53.

SBPOA President Jon Plummer hailed Nick Wilson's credentials, stating, "Nick Wilson stands unmatched in his dedication to law and order. His career, marked by valor and sacrifice, exemplifies the very best of public service. The SBPOA is proud to endorse a candidate who not only speaks of change but has lived it." Wilson, a retired police officer with

deep roots in community safety and mental health advocacy, has already garnered significant endorsements, reflecting a broad coalition of support.

His endorsements from Alex Villanueva, the 33rd Sheriff of LA County, and the police officers' associations of Claremont and Fontana underscore his unwavering commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of Californians.

"After 13 years in law enforcement, my career ended medically due to lineof-duty injuries, including PTSD. In the wake of my retirement, I founded a nonprofit to champion mental health and wellness for first responders. My roots aren't planted in politics or wealth; I’m a retired police officer with a profound care for the state of California and the

legacy we leave our children. My focus is on tangible solutions to enhance Californians' public safety and quality of life."

Wilson's personal journey from an officer facing threats from criminals and adversity to a champion for mental health resonates with many who have faced hardships. His founding of The Resiliency Project, an organization dedicated to supporting first responder mental health, stands as a testament to his resilience and leadership.

Wilson's campaign comes at a critical juncture, with community members calling for a restored emphasis on public safety and a proactive approach to the region's economic and social challenges. With a platform focused on advocating for law enforcement, restoring public

safety, safeguarding communities, fighting for parental rights, and mitigating homelessness, Wilson positions himself as the candidate poised to lead with integrity and experience.

"Nick is not a traditional politician; he's a problem-solver, a protector, and a parent. He knows firsthand the issues facing local communities - from the economic pressures to the imperative of keeping our parks and streets safe for our families. His life's work embodies the spirit of service and safety we need in Sacramento," Plummer concluded.

Make This a Holiday Season to Remember : Celebrate Responsibl y with a “Go Safel y” Game Plan

he holiday season can be a dangerous time for people on the roads. In December 2021 alone, 1,013 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol- impaired-driving crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Redlands Police Department wants to remind the public of the dangers of driving impaired and celebrate

the holiday season responsibly by not driving under the influence.

From Dec. 13 through New Year’s Day, Redlands Police will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The high-visibility enforcement effort is part of a national campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, with the goal of stopping suspected impaired drivers who put others on the road at risk.

“Impaired driving isn’t just dangerous, it’s illegal,” Sgt. Martin Gonzalez said. “Let’s make this a joyful and safe holiday season for everyone on the road. This enforcement period allows us to get the message out that it is essential to act responsibly and plan a sober ride home.”

ood afternoon, Ward 6 and the City of San Bernardino.

On December 11th,2023, I was notified that the campaign failed to secure the signatures needed to be placed on the ballot. For this, I take full responsibility and I apologize to you.

But this in no way reflects my continued commitment to serve the residents of Ward 6 and the City of San Bernardino. We must now pivot to a Write-In “Kimberly Calvin” for Ward 6 Re-Election campaign.

Life can present many challenges, and we must then choose to face them and continue on our destined journey. I have chosen to face this election as a Write-

In Candidate to retain my seat as your Ward 6 Councilwoman.

I have not become the leader that I am without your unwavering support. Each time I have needed you Ward 6 to show up and stand together on behalf of our community, you have never failed me.

I appreciate that so very much. Once again, I need your support. Write-In “Kimberly Calvin”

In the past three years, we have fought arm-in-arm to promote our community’s needs. It is evident that we have made great strides together. Within the first three years of my term, we brought forward:

• The new University Parkway/ State Street Expansion Project after 20 years of no movement on the city's Capital Improvement Plan. This expansion allows for more economic development

on the main corridors of Baseline, Highland, and Mt Vernon avenues.

• The current paving project for Pepper Street. • The development of 94 single-family homes, currently under construction on Highland Ave, after 40 years of no housing development within Ward 6.

• Over 300 affordable housing units are in process within the planning department.

• Partnered with the San Bernardino Police Department, to provide safer communities.

• More street maintenance and tree trimming in the last three years.

• Over 9 million dollars have been awarded to the revitalization of Nicholson Park beginning in January 2024.

Never has Ward 6 received this level of city funding and resources, and for that, we fought together. It is essential that we do not allow past failed leadership and unproven promises to deter us from the progress we have made in our community. This is a call to action; as your proven 6th Ward leader, I now need you to help me push forward in this fight.

On the day you receive your ballot, February 5th, Write-In “Kimberly Calvin" for San Bernardino City Council. Please share this message with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Our life, our community, and our future depend on this. Humbly and In Community,

Kimberly Calvin, Ward 6 Councilwoman

Fontana Unified Continues to Meet Community Need at 26th Annual ‘Fontana Santas’ Toy Distribution Event

line of cars filled with families wound their way through Fontana Unified’s parking lot, lined with festive volunteers, to receive community donations during the District’s 26th annual Fontana Santas event on Dec. 16. Fontana Unified students, staff and community members loaded up each car with gifts of toys, food and information on community resources.

Many were dressed in holiday garb, including Santa hats, reindeer antlers, holiday sweaters and pajamas, providing a festive experience for everyone in attendance.

Henry J. Kaiser High School freshman Melanie Ortiz was among the host of volunteers who came out for the event, loading up cars with bags of toys while laughing and having fun with her friends.

“For me, one of the best gifts is seeing the smiles on all the kids’ faces who are getting a gift, I know there are some families

out there who are struggling and cannot afford new toys,” Ortiz said. “This event truly makes me happy.”

Fontana Santas began in 1997 when the Fontana School Police Department learned a Fontana boy ran away from home after Christmas because he did not receive any presents. Since then, the Fontana School Police Department and Fontana Unified employees have collected toys and donations from local organizations and delivered them to families in need during the holidays, creating a treasured tradition that has provided toys to thousands of Fontana Unified students over the last 26 years.

“Fontana Santas is a cherished tradition that takes months of planning and a lot of volunteer hours to pull off each year,” Superintendent Miki R. Inbody said. “It is inspiring to see the entire community rally together and support our neighbors in need this holiday season.”

Fontana Santas is hosted in partnership with the Fontana School Police Department, Fontana Teachers Association,

United Steelworkers Local 8599, the Fontana Foundation of Hope, Fontana School Police Officers Association and Fontana Management Association.

Each year, Fontana Santas grows as it adds new resources and new community groups, said FUSD Child Welfare and Attendance Liaison Lydia Wibert, who was instrumental in starting the event alongside Fontana School Police Officer Cindy Evaro in 1997.

“It starts to feel like the holidays when this event happens, everyone just comes together and helps out. There are so many volunteers and companies that come out and give resources and their time for us,” Wibert said. “This event has gone on so long we have seen recipients of the program come back to volunteer with their children. This time of year is all about giving and that is what this event is all about.”

Safeguarding Health During the Holidays: LLUH Expert Demystifies Vaccine Misconceptions and Offers Key Strategies Against Flu, RSV, and COVID

By Manny Sandoval

s the holidays approach, families gather to celebrate, but this joyous time can also bring health risks like flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Dr. Maulin Soneji, an esteemed Pediatric Infectious Disease specialist at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH), shares vital tips to stay healthy during these gatherings.

Vaccinations: A Shield Against Severe Illness According to Dr. Soneji, vaccinations play a crucial role in mitigating the severity of these illnesses. "We have a vaccine for influenza with excellent efficacy. The CDC's new campaign, 'From Wild to Mild, ' illustrates this. Instead of severe body aches and feeling run over by a truck for a week, vaccinated individuals often experience milder symptoms," he explains.

The same applies to COVID-19, where vaccinated individuals have better outcomes. For RSV, adults over 60 and children under eight months are particularly encouraged to get vaccinated.

Immediate Medical Attention and Medications Dr. Soneji advises contacting your physician within 48 hours if you suspect flu symptoms. "In California, we're seeing a rise in fever and cough cases. Early consultation can lead to a prescription of Tamiflu, which helps in faster recovery." For COVID-19, he suggests using home tests and consulting your primary care doctor for potential Paxlovid treatment.

Preventative Non-Medical Measures Simple measures can significantly reduce the spread of viruses. Dr. Soneji recommends covering your cough, practicing good hand washing, and staying home when sick. "Gatherings outdoors are

preferable. Also, handwashing is crucial – the World Health Organization provides detailed guidance on this. It's about thoroughness, getting under fingernails and between fingers," he adds.

Dispelling Misconceptions A common misconception about the flu shot is that it causes the flu. Dr. Soneji clarifies, "The vaccine contains an inactive virus. It won't cause flu but may trigger immune response symptoms, less severe than the flu." Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, he acknowledges rare side effects like muscle inflammation but emphasizes that these are more severe in unvaccinated individuals who contract COVID-19.

Understanding COVID-19 Variants The ever-mutating nature of the COVID-19 virus means new variants will continue to emerge. "We're likely going to live with this virus, much like we do with the flu," says Dr. Soneji. He notes the importance of ongoing studies to understand these viruses better.

Combo Vaccines and Practical Advice for Parents Dr. Soneji supports the CDC's stance on simultaneously receiving the flu and COVID-19 vaccines. He also empathizes with parents dealing with sick children, suggesting masks and hand sanitizer and teaching good hand hygiene to children. For questions about vaccines, Dr. Soneji advises consulting with primary care doctors. He also recommends resources like the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia website and the CDC for reliable information on flu trends and vaccine facts.

he Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation along with the San Manuel Mission Band of Indians joined the City of San Bernardino on December 14 for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of three new Dodger Dreamfields at the City’s Blair Park. Also in attendance were Dodger outfielder Jonny Deluca and third base coach Dino Ebel.

The fields at Blair Park represent the 61st, 62nd, and 63rd baseball and softball fields built or refurbished by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation since 2003.

“Everyone deserves a space to play,” said Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Los

Angeles Dodgers Foundation. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this vital resource to San Bernardino, a city with such great history.”

The $1.7 million investment will support youth baseball and softball with three refurbished fields at Blair Park. Refurbishments will include new playing surfaces and grass, enclosed fields, upgraded dugouts, upgraded irrigation systems, new pitching mounds, bullpens and LED scoreboards resembling Dodger Stadium. The project is expected to be completed by June 2024.

“This investment is not merely about refurbishing fields. It is about investing in our future,” said San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran. “Much like Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels learned to play

football on the fields of San Bernardino, tomorrow’s Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani can get their start on the fields we will be improving.”

Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel, who attended San Bernardino Valley College and coached the San Bernardino Spirit minor league team, was happy to be back in San Bernardino. “This is a dream come true for the neighborhood and especially the kids,” Ebel said. “I am so excited to be a part of this.”

The project was made possible by a nearly $1.3 million grant from lead partner, the San Manuel Mission Band of Indians. This is the largest gift for a Dodgers Dreamfield project to date. Additional project sponsors include Security Benefit, LA84 Foundation and the Helen and Will

Webster Foundation.

“Youth sports in San Bernardino play a valuable role in helping our youth build character and learn life skills that will guide them to success,” said Parks and Recreation Director Lydie Gutfeld. “This starts with having access to elite playing fields. Thank you to the Dodgers Foundation, San Manuel, and all the sponsors.”

The Dodgers Foundation has invested nearly $20 million to date and has a goal of building 75 Dodgers Dreamfields by 2033 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles in 1958.

“These fields not only represent a place to play, but a place to dream,” added Mayor Tran.

In the event that the deed of trust described in this Notice of Trustee’s Sale is secured by real property containing from one to four singlefamily residences, the following notices are provided pursuant to the provisions of Civil Code section 2924f: NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee’s sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 916-939-0772 or visit this internet website www.nationwideposting.com, using the file
