Villager’s own Glory Weisberg receives Special Friend award By Gerri Sweeney The Volunteers of America gave out its 2013 annual awards to six very deserving recipients, Oct. 2. Among those was Glory Weisberg, society editor of the Villager newspaper. Emcee for the evening, 9NEWS Reporter Amelia Rose Earhart, related in her introduction of Glory

that through Glory’s long and distinguished career in journalism, she has exemplified top-notch reporting: being timely, factual, fun and inspiring. Under her guidance, “Fleurish,” the Villager’s society section, has become a must read for anyone wanting to be in the know about charity and prominent leaders of business and society who take seriously their belief in giving back. Her tireless promotion of life-saving causes has served as a great

Reagan Giffels was recognized for more than 10 years as a devoted volunteer to Volunteers of America. She has been the heart and soul of the Quarters for Kids event for the past eight years in raising funds for the Volunteers of America

Brandon Center. Through raising $30,000 in donations, thousands of less fortunate children have started their day with a nutritious breakfast. Larry DiPasquale of Epicurean Catering has given his personal support to put Volunteers of America and Western Fantasy on the map of not to be missed galas. He has also hosted events at Mangia Bevi, fed people in Volunteers Continued on page 15

Although both are longtime residents of the 12-year-old city, they have taken diverging paths of opportunity – until now. Noon, an incumbent with

a long history in city politics, faces a challenge from Bromley, an admitted political novice who currently splits her time as a yoga instructor and stay-athome mother. “I don’t want to sit around and just complain about what’s going on,” the first-time candidate said at the Oct. 4 forum. “Here I am, a regular citizen. I don’t have four years experience. … I don’t have the buzzwords. I don’t have all of that.” Instead, Bromley, who served on the board of directors for the Chapparal Homeowners Association, touted her ability to bring new perspective. Continued on page 4
