Hey loving souls, How are you? Hope you are doing well and spreading love as the month of love has arrived so Identity magazine’s third issue is all about love culture. This issue is wholly dedicated to the indefinable feeling that connects heart from heart. The cover story is about the trademarks and master pieces of love on planet earth which includes the story behind Taj Mahal, Tomb of Humayun and Venice-the city of love. “What should I gift him or her?” this is the most common question lovers are found asking from friends and siblings but Identity has tried to solve your problem as the feature “Gifts for Eternity” will answer all related queries. Do you know Venus is termed the planet of love? But why? To know, read the article “Venus-the planet of love”. Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th day of this month and due to huge western influence, we celebrate it. But it’s neither our national nor our religious holiday then what’s the point of celebrating it? Read a healthy debate in “Valentine’s Day: Modernization or Westernization”. Read a moralful story about the eternal bond of friendship in “Single but avoid to mingle”. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so Identity has shared a list of lovey-dovey recipes that will help you to win over the heart of your husband or beloved. Camera in the hands of young blood undoubtedly refers to Wafa Tariq, our photographer of the month. This time Identity is also sharing a love story, “Soul mate” about two souls from different religions becoming one. A day that’s falls on every month, yeah you guessed it right “Birthday”. Since I am a 13th February born too, Identity is all set for wishing Happy Birthday to your friends and loved ones from your behalf. Moreover, the issue contains list of songs having the most YouTube views, caption the image, heart-shaped card making and much more. Love is the most pious and virtuous feeling in the world and we have tried to cover some aspects of it. How much have we succeeded in it? Do tell us by giving your valuable feedback.

Prof. Dr. Nisar Zubairi, Head of Social Sciences Department of Jinnah University for Woman (JUW) Identity is an attractive and interesting magazine for the young generation. I particularly liked its inclination towards cultural diversity in one country and the layout is really exceptional. If the editors are looking for some suggestions, I would say, take care of headlines which are nearly invisible in some pages. Glossary page is a wonderful idea. Lastly, editorial page is somewhat jumbled so see if you can beautify it in some other way.

Saba Siddiqui, Lecturer of Mass Communication at JUW I would like to appreciate your efforts for coming up with such an informative magazine for keeping us up-to-date on all the cultures of Pakistan, recent happenings and delicious recipes. The cover story “Qabool Hai” caught my eye in which marriage traditions of all Pakistan’s provincials were described. The layout and graphics of the magazine are fantastic and it’s very easy to read for online users. I am so impressed with your work and wish that you continue running this magazine.

Ali Suleman, Editor in Chief of Shashca (Youth ka newspaper) Thanks for considering my humble opinion for your brainchild. The idea of a magazine totally dedicated to culture and its execution is all perfect MashaAllah. The designing is totally professional too but I didn't find the page size to be identical for every page in the magazine. I don't think you need any improvements in content because it's already up to the mark. Keep it up.

Love is a feeling which has no boundaries, no limitations and no demands as it is the universal language understand by everyone. Love means sacrifice; it is the name of giving, forgiving and forgetting. It can happen in life anywhere and anytime regardless of the traditional or geographical boundaries. True love is neither easy to find nor forget, people keep wandering whole life but never find their true love but once they find it then it’s difficult to forget. They always remember it till their last breath as it keeps circulating in body like blood. Taj Mahal and Tomb of Humayun. Both such as

are the symbol of love but many of us don’t know the exact story.

Taj Mahal: Love never dies, people die and Taj Mahal is the most oblivious and heart touching example of pious love present between husband and wife. A monument and symbol of love, built by

Shah Jahan in the memory of his third wife Mumtaz who died while delivering their 14th child. However he promised his wife of making the most beautiful monument in her memory and he proved it through constructing the extravagant Taj Mahal which is considered as the biggest monument of India and is among the Seven Wonders of the World. As a whole, its outer beauty amaze people as they glance at it but every single part of it delivers the depth of Shah Jahan’s eternal love towards his wife. The Architecture: The great wonder, Taj Mahal took about 22 years to complete and about 1000 elephants were used for carrying of materials. However, the central dome is fifty eight feet in diameter and rises to a height of 213 feet flanked to its sides by four subsidized domed chamber The Mausoleum that houses the grave of Queen Mumtaz is entirely decorated with inlaid design of flowers and calligraphy which was done using precious gems like a gate, jasper, Jade and Crystal. The archway craved with passages from the Holy Quran gives it a unique charm and adds to its beauty.

Tomb of Humayun: Red walls and white outlines, a tomb stand in the square garden and a shallow water channels gives a different charisma reminding us the beauty of Tomb of Humayun. Actually, it sounds really interesting because we usually hear stories of man doing something special for their beloved but Humayun’s tomb has left a very different and beautiful love story behind that now have become an example of true love. The tomb was built by Humayun’s wife named Hamida Banu Begum who ordered that the tomb had to be built in 1562, in the memory of her beloved husband. Her husband wanted Persian style architecture for his tomb and his beloved wife

made it exactly the same way. Hence, this act of her signifies her devotion and true love towards Humayun.

The architecture: The tomb was built by a Persian architect named Mirak Mirza Ghiyuath. It is situated on the eastern edge of Delhi, the south of the Purana Qila, The tomb based at the center of a plinth, about 21 feet (7m) high. The top of its central dome reaches 140 feet from the ground. The dome is double-layered; the outer layer supports the white marble exterior facing, while the inner one defines the cavernous interior volume. The rest of the tomb is clad in red sandstone, with white marble ornamentation.

Venice: The name Venice is derived from the God Venus whose unique style attracted and made people fall in love with him. Venice – a city of lovers is famous for its 117 different islands, 400 bridges, many ancient pavements, endless waterways and Grand Canal which is biggest among all 150 canals. Its gondola rides are considered very romantic but quite expensive as people believe that if you kiss under the bridge of sighs, you will be in love forever. Hence, honeymoon in Venice is a dream of many couples and some choose it as a perfect marriage venue. Many tourists around the world come to experience the love and romance in the city. The famous love affairs of George Sand with Alfred de Musset, Lord Byron, Gabrielle d' Annunzio and many

others gave their loving letters of nobility to Venice. George Sand while staying in Venice said in one letter of 25th June 1834 to her friend Émile Paultre: “Life is the most beautiful thing of the world when one loves, and most hateful when one ceases loving. In my opinion, love is everything...the true love, it is when the heart, the spirit and the body understand each other’s and embrace together.” Undoubtedly, life becomes more beautiful when true love comes and two people together make it more alluring when they understand, feel and truly admire each other.

Gifts for Eternity!

By Kiran Ashraf

In the run up to February 14th, red and pink goodies are ubiquitous wherever you look. Stumped for ideas? Not to worry. Here we give a list of both traditional and novel gifts to shower your Valentine with.

Gifts for lady love: Jewelry: Bring a smile to her lips by giving her a delicate bracelet or even a pair of earrings will do the trick. You need not buy something too expensive so just go for the glittering, affordable prices to win over her love.

Photo Frames: Frames capture memories in a very affordable way. Try getting hold of a heartshaped photo frame in cute and colorful shades of pink or red. Insert a romantic picture of the two of you and gift it to her.

Books: Why not give her something different? To throw in the romance, you can give her Keats or Byron’s classics. If poetry is not her thing, a more contemporary romantic novel will do.

Gift Baskets: A gift basket containing teddy bear, perfume, CDs of her favourite music is a great idea. It will be greatly appreciated by the receiving party.

Flowers and Chocolates: Swiss chocolates go perfectly with flowers but if you are tighter on budget, substitute it with heart-shaped chocolates along with a big bouquet of plump red roses to lighten up your significant other.

Gifts for Dream Guy: Cologne: A sweet smell can deliver the message of your heart so his favorite cologne is a sure shot way to make your beau’s day.

Wristwatch: Most guys love watches so you can’t go wrong with this one. There are many watches available at reasonable prices so just go with the deal that suits your pocket.

IDENTITY MAG I 15

Wallet: Wallets is a must have for any guy and with a wide variety to choose from, you are sure to find the one that can unlock the way to his heart.

Gadgets: The desire of all guys is to own the coolest gadgets and gizmos. A latest cell phone or a techy present will make a gift your valentine will just absolutely love.

Favourite meal: The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so try cooking him a delicious recipe like an ambrosial cake or home-made cookies. Alternatively, you can treat him to a lip-smacking meal at his favourite restaurant.

Gifts for family: Coffee mugs: A cup of coffee shared with family is happiness tasted and time well spent. Giving your siblings a coffee mug with a sweet or funny message related to your relationship would be fun.

Stationary: You can also buy stationary items for your young cousins or siblings desk where they study, work or just read. For instance, buy them an alluring penholder with some fancy pens.

Greeting cards: instead of purchasing, make a card yourself, telling them that this is a token of your gratitude to them for being such a great part of your world and in turn making your life worth living. This is not just inexpensive but creative and will add a personalized touch.

Offer: You can offer to do their chores or cook supper for them. It will be really fabulous if you offer an annual subscription to their favourite magazine or take your siblings for shopping where you pay the bill.

Movie: Grab a big bucket of popcorns with butter topping and get set for a movie ride along with your family to give you a shoulder to cry on during a sad scene and have a blast laughing on the hilarious parts. These gifts will definitely make your valentine see that they are truly made of love. Even if these are inexpensive, your sweetheart will appreciate the time, energy and effort you have put in getting or making these gift. For an added touch, wrap your gift in a fancy gift paper or glass jar highlighted with ribbons and bows. Remember, it is the heart-warming thoughts of expressing your emotions and appreciating the existence of your loved ones in your life that matters more than the price tag.

Venus

Love Planet

- The Planet Of Love By Sobia Rasheed

“M

en are from Mars Women are from Venus while discussing man and woman this phrase has always been quoted. There is a general idea in Greek Mythology that Martians (Men) belongs to the planet Mars and Venusians (Women) are from Venus as both the creatures are

associated with different planets so they are totally different from each other but the love between them eliminate their differences as the two agreed to share their sorrows and happiness with each other. Venus is the planet of women so undoubtedly the planet of love and beauty. In mythology, Venus is the Roman name for the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. She was loyal to Adonis who was her inamorata. Her love for him was extremely passionate and flamed as she used to spend the entire day hunting with him. Due to her attractive looks and beauty, many gods loved her and in their jealousy with Adonis, they disrupted the peace among themselves and even instigated a war. Love and

beauty with which Aphrodite associates has power to attract others as we all know that love is one of the human emotions which have enough strength to make someone travel to unimaginable territories. Devotion and sacrifice are other words which describes love and in keeping with that, Aphrodite also made her love her moxie and fortitude. That is exactly how love can make a women powerful or a weakling among others. As they say that love is a powerful emotion with the ability to bring even the gods to their knees and indeed that’s exactly what happened with Aphrodite when Adonis was killed by a boar. A beautiful scented flower, Anemone grew from his blood as Aphrodite grieved and cried over her beloved lifeless body.

Venus has been called Earth’s sister planet Venus is the 2nd planet from the sun. Even though Mercury is closer to the sun, Venus is actually hotter than Mercury. Venus was named after a goddess, Aphrodite Aphrodite, to birth from the sea foam. Venus is morning star and rises before the sun but at other time it is the evening star It takes 225 days to complete its orbit of the zodiac. It is never more than 47 degrees from the sun.

misunderstandings because of different expectations. It also guides romantic lives which lead to choosing a mate. Venus also deals with the pleasure of possessions i.e. Luxuries (jewelry, paintings, expensive cars), good food and drink, a beautiful home and a sense of refinement. Love is the most powerful motivation in the world. It spurs mortals to greatness and their bravest acts are done for love. As astrology say planets affect our lives so Venus has a great impact on us as it deals with our day to day circumstances. However, the goddess gave a message that love requires sacrifices beyond our expectations. The message of her will always be kept in the memories of Romans as many of their festivals are based upon her .

The symbols associated with planet Venus are of rose, palm and apple which deals with love, desire, affection, attraction and harmony. It is the combination of circle and cross having two characteristics i.e. spiritual and material. According to astrology, Venus has a dual relationship with Taurus and Libra and is their planetary ruler as well, that’s why it is associated with two important aspects of life, love and money. Love is all about pleasure shared with someone else but money reflects the materialistic and selfish side of it. When Venus is prevalent in a person’s chart or the current astrological outlook, they receive extra gifts in their appearance and attractiveness which extends to people as well as to their financial outlook. In friendships, Venus determines friendship style but clashing Venus signs can lead to

Valentine’s Day: Modernization or Westernization An opinion by Wafa Tariq it is neither our national holiday nor our religious holiday, but its preparation and celebrations surpasses all. In the state of inferiority complex, when the desire of today’s youth to follow west is increasing, the trend of celebrating Valentine’s Day is catching speed in our society. It is an undeniable fact that celebration of Valentine`s Day is the result of strong western influence on our youth. Some claims there is nothing wrong in borrowing such cultural aspects of west which spreads joys and happiness in the society. Indeed, there seems to be no problem in that claim but is it justified to adopt such festivals that go against our religion and social norms? Surely, there are certain things which we need to rethink. Along with the emerging East meets West culture, Valentine's Day has been promoted from being a westerninfluence to a full-blown holiday in Pakistan irrespective of the fact that even an average shopkeeper doesn’t have any positive reviews about it. But no businessman can ignore the important day as it generates revenue when youth becomes crazy to send gifts and cards without thinking about money or what they are doing. True love doesn’t need any constant reminder. Taking in consideration the sociology perspective, youth today is fervently following the west and eventually they are notable to change their mindsets as fast as they are changing themselves. So, certain

percentage of youth is trying to add some norms which have nothing to do with what our culture is all about. Coming to religion, I think majority of us are aware of the history of Valentine`s Day, yet they act as if they are unaware of it. It’s just like closing your eyes and denying to face the reality. Commemorating Christian martyrs would not enlighten our society so why no one even bothers to know when 12th Rabi-ul-Awal falls this year? They are unaware of the fact that celebrating such events on the cost of Islamic ethics is simply blindness of mind. Moving to social norms, isn`t it really ironic to adopt a particular festivity which is not easy to celebrate openly? A type of celebration where we have to hunt for places which are not easily accessible to our closed ones? On what grounds can we justify rejoicing something which we are afraid of or which involves deceiving the morality of our family and culture. I can certainly not consider this as modernization of the Pakistani society because our way to celebrate love is not defined within the parameters of a particular day nor is it dependent on it. I reckon that love demands expression but every culture has its own values and demands that must not be diluted in the name of modernization. In a nutshell, I am indifferent to the fact that whether Valentine’s Day should be celebrated or not but the issue which needs to be raised is the culture of Pakistan which is deteriorating day by day to the lowest degree.

Single…but avoid to

By Syeda Maliha Begum

“W

hoa!!...What?? Did I heard you right?...you are in love... but how? You always preferred not to fall in love,” Stacy, with astonishment, showered questions on her best friend Nichole as she revealed her crush on a boy to her best friend Stacy. Nichole always negated about falling in love as it doesn’t exist in its true form currently. But now Nichole had fallen in love with her neighbor and they have decided to spend their life together. A few months later, on the grey evening of January, both friends were sitting in Stacy’s living room along with a cup of hot chocolate. Nichole was complaining about her boy friend, confiding her doubts about him meeting up with other girls too. “What am I suppose to do Stacy, our relationship was bounded by love and trust so how did the other girls entered in his life without me knowing about it, why didn’t he told me?” Nichole’s depressing voice tore the haunting silence of the room.

“I had a long argument with him Stacy, but he wasn’t accepting any of his faults. How can I trust him when I have seen him meeting up with other girls??” All this was getting on my nerves and this love thing… all crap. I can’t bear it. My life was way better before. But even after leaving him, I am not feeling any better. What the hell!! Why did I indulge myself into this waste of time,” Nichole held her head in her hands while facing down. “Cool down Nichole, it’s all just a mere part of our lives. You will settle down but it will take time so don’t get messed up. We are together to enjoy our life as we have always did.” Stacy kept consoling her friend as that’s what friendship is all about. This was just an example of how majority of the relationships usually end up. Valentine’s Day is dedicated to recreate love and romance. On this day, many single boys and girls are doomed and doused because they have no one to romance with and shower their love on. This is not the saddening part as you can celebrate each and every occasion with your friends; at least friends will never ditch you. You can find real happiness with them and won’t end up arguing about lots of doubts. Youngsters

Stacy with concern, narrowed her eyebrows and said, “You should clear up everything right away Nichole so that you don’t worsen your condition. Look at you, you are totally messed up!!” Tearyeyed Nichole spoke, “I am fine, I am going to clear up everything right away or else these doubts will kill me. I will call you Stacy”. A Red, Red Rose Oh my luve is like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June: Oh my luve is like the melodie, That's sweetly play'd in tune. As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a' the seas gang dry. Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun; And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o' life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel a while! And I will come again, my luve, Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

Because She Would Ask Me Why I Loved Her a poem by Christopher Brennan If questioning would make us wise No eyes would ever gaze in eyes; If all our tale were told in speech No mouths would wander each to each. Were spirits free from mortal mesh And love not bound in hearts of flesh No aching breasts would yearn to meet And find their ecstasy complete. For who is there that lives and knows The secret powers by which he grows? Were knowledge all, what were our need To thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?. Then seek not, sweet, the "If" and "Why" I love you now until I die. For I must love because I live And life in me is what you give.

Love will find its way

Ghazal

By Erum Inaam

By Munib Sheikh Jordan

“Dedicated to all war victims of the whole world waiting for a dawn of peace and harmony” Love will find its way,

Main Aisi Mohabbat Karta Hoon

Ab jo aye ho tum to subha ko he jana,

By Khalil Ullah Farooqi

Andheri raat mein phir mujhy tanha na kar jana. Meri har raat ke tanhai tumhy pukarti hai,

Ghazal

Jao to laut aana phir mjhy tanha na kar jana.

By Munib Sheikh Jordan

Far from the dark scary clouds, Away from pain and mournful shouts,

Meri raat ke tanhai ko or tanha na kar jana,

There will be shiny sparkling day,

Agar jao to laut aana phir mujhy tanha na kar jana.

No matter how far away, But it will surely find a way.

When love will find its way. When air will turn into soothing breeze,

Yeh tanha raat mujhy sonay nahi deyti, Teri yaadon ko khonay nahi deyti.

Blowing soft the wile beautiful trees, Kids playing with their free innocent dreams, Hoping to taste life’s delicious dreams.

Agar jao to laut aana phir mujhy tanha na kar jana, Har raat teray na honay per yeh dil bychain sa hota hai.

To see a dawn full of gleams,

Teri yaad bhot tarpati hai phir neend mujhy na aati hai,

Enlightening their future with visionary scenes,

Yeh raat na mujsy katti thi yeh raat na mujsy katti hai.

Making them believe that they have found a peaceful day,

Gin gin ky din raat mainy guzary hain teri yaad main,

Because love have found them anyway.

Agar jaan sako to laut aana phir mujhy tanha na kar jana.

Yaad mujhy tum aati ho Subha subha ke pheli kiran Jab pyar say mujko chooti hai Tab yaad mujhy tum aati ho Bas yaad mujhy tum aati ho Shaam ka thanda sunapan Jab baytahasha tarpaata hai Tab yaad mujhy tum aati ho Bas yaad mujhy tum aati ho In tanha tanha raaton mein Har guzarty lamhy key sath Meri haar tanhai kay aalam mein Bas yaad mujhy tum aati ho

There will be a shiny sparkling day, No matter how far away, When love will find its way. There is an old say,

To every dark night, there is a glowing day, That day will come with lots of gays,

Mujhko tanha sa karjati ho

Main aisi mohabbat karta hoon Tum kaisi mohabbat karti ho Tum jahan peh beth k jati ho Main waheen pe betha rehta hoon Uss cheez ko choota rehta hoon Main aisi mohabbt karta hoon Tum jis se huns k milti ho Main us ko dost banata hoon Tum jis raste par chalti ho Main us se aata jata hoon Main aisi mohabbat karta hoon Tum kaisi mohabbat karti ho Tum jin ko dekhti rehti ho woh khawab....sarhane rakhta hoon Tum se milne julne k Kitne hi bahane rakhta hoon Main aisi mohabbat karta hoon Tum kaisi mohabbat karti ho Tum jahan bhi beth k jati ho Jis cheez ko haath lagati ho Main waheen peh betha rehta hoon Uss jaga ko choota rehta hoon Main aisi mohabbat karta hoon Tum kaisi mohabbat karti ho Kuch khawab saja kar aankhon main Palkon say moti chunta hoon Koi lums agar choo jaa a to Main pehroon us ko sochta hoon Main...aisi mohabbat karta hoon Tum kaisi mohabbat karti ho

Fizzah I have decided to convert to Islam” Freddy announced. “What…really…are you serious” Fizzah exclaimed. “Yes I swear…I am serious”. Fizzah’s eyes turned misty she thanked God inside her heart. Freddy changed his name from Freddy.Joseph.Edison to Mohmmed Farhad. Love between them became more strong and deep but destiny is not always in our favor and one day their love came in front of everyone. Fizzah’s parents forced her to quit her job. Farhad’s uncle insulted him because he was engaged with uncle’s daughter Julie back in childhood. Farhad refused to accept the engagement as he was very young at that time. Their parents didn’t accept their relation. Fizzah was intensely in love with Farhad she suggested the option of running away from home but Farhad had gone so far in Islam. He read a lot about Islam and also learnt Arabic. It was not about Fizzah but about his religion Islam. He decided to leave the city. He told Fizzah if her parents don’t allow her to marry him then she should obey them because Islam orders to obey our parents When Fizzah told her parents that Freddy now Farhad had asked her to obey her parents and he was going to another city her parents were very touched by his thinking. They asked her to call him to meet her parents and confirm date of their marriage.
