Canyon County Christmas Show
The Canyon County Christmas Show is a three-day weekend event held in the Ford Idaho Center every November the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Christmas Show features hundreds of vendors selling gift items, food and various other merchandise. In addition to local commercial and amateur vendors, Santa Claus is on-hand for photos and Christmas gift requests.

The Canyon County Festival of Trees is in its 24th year as a family-centered holiday event for the community. Proceeds from the festival go directly to supporting Canyon County Meals on Wheels in both Caldwell and Nampa. Enjoy a venue of customdesigned trees, a selection of silent auction items, unique centerpieces, wreaths, and decorations. Handcrafted items will also be available for sale during the designated shopping times. This is a great opportunity for you to pick up a few unique and special gifts for the holidays. Centennial Golf Course is Nampa’s oldest municipal golf course. The Canyon County Fair takes place at the Canyon County Fairgrounds and the Caldwell Event Center VɈ UK :[YLL[ PU *HSK^LSS ;OL *HU`VU *V\U[` -HPY is held annually in July and will take place in July 2018. The God and Country Family Festival

Snake River Stampede

The Nampa Dog Park is a fenced, six-acre park located at the intersection of Second Street South and East Amity Avenue near the Kings Road overpass. Separate areas are available for large, small or older dogs.

Supporting local business, collaborating with the City of Nampa, neighboring counties, and state entities to support retention, expansion, and recruitment of business in Nampa. Nampa is growing and manufacturing seems to be driving much of the business boom. “If you’re comparing to the rest of the valley, I think our housing prices are lower in Nampa,” said Mike Pena of Colliers International, and Nampa Chamber Incoming Board Chair. “We’ve had a nice manufacturing renaissance. Our industrial vacancy (rate) is now below 2 percent, which … I’m not sure if it’s ever been lower, frankly.”

It provides a place and mentors for entrepreneurs starting a new venture in Idaho. Part of Ineck’s job is to encourage companies to come to Nampa. She promotes the strengths of the

companies Nampa already has, the opportunities for partnerships with educational institutions such as the College of Western Idaho, the skills of the area’s workers – 17 percent of them work in manufacturing, twice the national average – and the quality of life which draws people to the area. Nampa is home to one of the fastest growing community colleges in the nation (College of Western Idaho), a top-rated private Christian university (Northwest Nazarene University), and a private college (Stevens-Henager College). “Workforce development is vital to economic growth in Nampa. Our educators play a critical role in ensuring we have the needed workforce for the future. Nampa has a wonderful educational environment with both the Nampa and Vallivue School Districts, and our three post-secondary educational institutions,” said Debbie Kling, former President/CEO of the Nampa Chamber of Commerce.

Nampa’s career and technical education (CTE) program is keeping an eye on the future. Nampa’s CTE program traces its roots to the agricultural program the district started in 1941. Today, there are 28 career pathways part of the Idaho Center for Advanced Technology (iCAT), Nampa’s Career Technical School, including engineering, law enforcement, cosmetology, dentistry, accounting, agriculture, business, computer programming and many others. “Our career educational options are some of the most valuable resources to help students gain a competitive advantage as they prepare for college and/or their career,” as stated in the recent annual report for the CTE program. Nampa’s CTE Assistant Director, Clay Long, shared the program is focusing exploration of innovative programs including dispatching, manufacturing, and hospitality to meet industry needs. Nampa students choose in 8th or 9th grade what they want to pursue, Long said, and every freshman and sophomore, and a majority of juniors and seniors, take CTE courses. The program had 3,200 students last year. Nampa has articulation agreements with colleges for almost all of its CTE programs, and many of their pathways are aligned with programs at the College of Western Idaho. CWI has grown to more than 24,000 students since it was founded a decade ago, and it has also become a player in getting local youth ready for the workforce. Serving as a convening entity, bringing key stakeholders and community leaders together to identify the most pressing health needs in our community, and identify strategies to address those needs. Nampa’s health care options have seen some big changes this year as both of the city’s hospital systems have grown to serve Canyon County’s growing population. In June St. Alphonsus opened the new 240,000-square-foot, 106-bed St. Alphonsus Medical Center near the corner of Interstate 84 and Garrity Boulevard, while also opening a smaller “neighborhood hospital” next to the old 12th Avenue Road facility so as to continue serving that area. Karl Keeler, President of Saint Alphonsus Nampa, shared “Saint Alphonsus Nampa has championed a mission to serve the local community by being a trusted healthcare partner for life. Whether it’s the birth of a child or the treatment of ongoing chronic illness, our expert colleagues and providers deliver world-class care with the latest innovation and equipment. With both physical and mobile care locations, Saint Alphonsus looks forward to serving our community for generations to come.” In October, St. Luke’s Health System cut the ribbon on its new 200,000 square-foot, 87 bed, full service Nampa hospital. The hospital joins the existing St. Luke’s Nampa medical plaza and emergency department. Ed Castledine, Administrator of St. Luke’s Nampa, shared “With the opening of the new St. Luke’s Nampa hospital, we are happy to provide quality care close to home for Canyon County residents. New services include seven family care suites, 10 newborn intensive care rooms, four operating rooms, an intensive care unit, cardiology, and breast care imaging. Nampa is an authentic, homegrown community with a history rooted in the railroad, and a beautiful downtown core. With great local restaurants, wineries and agri-tourism close by, Nampa is a great place to explore! The Warhawk Air Museum attracts thousands of visitors each year. Experience America’s wars, discover the development of wartime technology, and remember the brave men and women who fought in America’s wars. It’s a step back in time visitors won’t want to miss. The Snake River Stampede Rodeo, celebrating over 102 years, is one of the top 10 rodeos in the country. This premiere rodeo evolved from humble
beginnings as a local bucking horse competition into an internationally recognized rodeo and honored with membership in the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame. The Ford Idaho Center and the Ford Idaho Horse Park’s General Manager Tim Savona shared the facilities bring more than 325,000 people a year to its horse shows, concerts and other events. The center also hosts many concerts, trade shows and other events, including the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) invitational and events like the Monster Jam Monster Truck Rally. A conservative estimate of the Ford Idaho Center’s economic impact is more than $10 million a year, based on a prior Northwest Nazarene University study; however, the actual economic impact is much higher today. The Ford Idaho Center’s Horse Park hosts about two dozen events a year, Savona said, typically running from mid-March to the end of October. They last three to seven days, and about 85 percent of the people they bring are from out-of-town. Most of the people who come for the horse events stay in nearby hotels, since they need to be at the horse park frequently.

Encouraging more tourism in general, both tapping into the Ford Idaho Center’s visitors and bringing new visitors to town, is something Beth Ineck, Nampa’s Director of Economic Development, wants to work on.
