Ice Power greetings 2014 has again been a successful year for Ice Power. In the beginning of the year the new enlarged Ice Power factory was opened in Tampere and it has resulted as expected in bigger manufacturing quantities and more effective packaging facilities. The enlargement of the production facilities was essential in order to meet the increased demand of Ice Power cold therapy products. Also the Ice Power export team got two new members, Mrs. Heidi Männistö and Mr. Gorazd Slivnik. Both Mrs. Männistö and Mr. Slivnik work as Ice Power export managers and with their enthusiasm and experience we see many new opportunities for Ice Power in the future. Please read more about our new export managers on page 3. In 2014 Ice Power has successfully increased its sales points and entered new markets around the world. The Ice Power team is happy to announce that Ice Power Cold Therapy Products are now available also in Malaysia. Ice Power is looking forward to the year 2015 as it will be the 20th anniversary of Ice Power cold therapy products. For 20 years Ice Power has relieved the lives of many people suffering from muscular and joint pain. Over the years the Ice Power product line has increased and nowadays everyone can find a suitable Ice Power product from the Ice Power product selection. Background

Clinical methods

In literature there are couple of studies supporting the use of hot or cold therapy for osteoarthritis (OA) of hand. Mostly topical creams of capsaicin or waxes has been used for hot therapy. In few studies also cold packs were used for OA flare.

Patients who have pain more than 40 mm by Visual Analogue Scale and had swelling and stiffness of the joints of fingers were included the study group. Pain was evaluated by VAS at rest and during movements. Also the mobility and functions were evaluated by VAS. HAQ â&#x20AC;&#x201C; questionnaire were also filled. All these evaluations were done before the study, with two weeks and 4 weeks follow-up. Patients were advised to use topical cream which included cold forming menthol, some ingredients and also glucosamine-, chondroitin sulphates and MSM (Ice Power Arthro Creme, Fysioline Ltd, Pharma, Finland). The cream was advised to put twice daily on flared hand joints.

Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of novel gel formula for patients suffering osteoarthritis of hand.

Design Open controlled trial.

Patients 58 patients (10 men and 48 women) with OA of the fingers, who have pain or swelling. The mean age of the patients was 65 years. The diagnosis of hand OA was made by clinical evaluation and confirmed by hand x-rays.

Results The mobility of the joints increased during first two weeks 19,5% and after four weeks treatment up to 35% from the beginning. Pain decreased from 64 mm (at rest) to 41 mm after 4 weeks to end of the study. The everyday managing at home decreased from 0,64 to 0,53 during the two weeks and to 0,36 end of the study. HAQ disability mean was 0,66 at the beginning decreasing 0,62 at 2 weeks follow-up to 0,42 respectively at 4 weeks follow up.

Conclusions This simple cooling topical gel relieved the moderate pain and decreased joints disability without marked adverse events.

Results

Introduction of new Ice Power Export managers In the end of 2013 the Ice Power team got two new export managers Mrs. Heidi Männistö and Mr. Gorazd Slivnik. Mrs. Männistö and Mr. Slivnik have both experience in Export sales and are heavy users of Ice Power. Mrs. Männistö has Master’s in Business Competence and Bachelor degree in International Business. She has previously worked in an international bank as a senior investment banker as well as in export sales selling curved architectural glass. She has experience in both retail and b-to-b sales, marketing and event planning. On her free time Mrs. Männistö enjoys running and exercising at the gym. Due to her hobbies she knows that Ice Power is the best product to relieve pain of sore muscles and ease the strain of joints after physical exercise.

Together Mrs. Männistö and Mr. Slivnik are an excellent team. They are eager to spread the word about Ice Power as fast pain relief and share the passion of helping our Ice Power distributors around the world.

Mr. Slivnik used to be an athlete in the National Rowing team of Slovenia. He has studied international economics. He has been doing international import and export activities as an International sales director in VPD Bled with Medical Devices field for more than 10 years. At the same time he has been doing successful promotions, marketing and sales with Ice Power products in Slovenia. Mr. Slivnik is very active in doing all kinds of sports, cross country skiing, running, etc.

IP Academy for medical doctors Medical doctors from all over Europe and the Middle-East attended the Academy and the Ice Power Team was proud to present the two key speakers of the event, Professor Olavi Airaksinen (MD, DrMedSci, Clinical Director of Rehabilitation Services, Qualification for Pain Management and Rehabilitation) from Kuopio University Hospital and Doctor Jukka Pekka Kouri (MD, Head of Pain Unit at Orton Hospital, Helsinki, Qualification for Pain Management and Rehabilitation).

In this two-day event Professor Airaksinen gave the visiting doctors an excellent insight to the physiological effects for cold therapy and the role of cold therapy in Medicine and presented the clinical trials of Ice Power Cold Gel. Dr. Kouri followed with detailed and informative lectures about different pain models (mechanical vs chemical pain mechanisms as well as nociceptive â&#x20AC;&#x201C; neuropathic and mixed pathways).

The very first Ice Power Academy was arranged in Helsinki, Finland on the 26-27th of September 2014. The Ice Power Academy was a great success and offered the doctors new insights to cold therapy and the use of it in pain relief. The doctors were really fond of Ice Power Cold Therapy products and thought of many different ways of how to use Ice Power in their professions. Ice Power events around the world Hockey players got excited about Ice Power in WK Hockey tournament in the Netherlands Australian top hockey player Jodie Kenny was happy to treat her muscle pain and get fast recovery with Ice Power in Rabobank Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands. The WK Hockey took place in Hague, The Netherlands during May 31st – June 15th, 2014. The two week international event was very successful for Ice Power. Ice Power in one of the most important hiking happenings in Europe - “100 KM DODENTOCHT®” Ice Power was present in the 45th International “100 KM DODENTOCHT®” (English: Death march) in Bornem, BELGIUM for the second time in a row. The non-competitive walk event started on August 8th and the challenge was to walk a total of 100 km within 10-24 hours. This year 11,861 walkers and runners participated in the event. Ice Power was surely needed to relieve the sore feet of the walkers so luckily the Belgium Ice Power distributor Metra Bvba-sprl was handing out Ice Power samples to give the participants a fast pain relief.

Ice Power Congress in Macedonia The third congress of physiatrists from the Republic of Macedonia was held on the 17-20th September in Ohrid (Macedonia). Over 400 participants visited the congress from which 150 took part in the ICE POWER symposium organized by our Macedonian distributor Dooel Euro-Farm. There were doctors from Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Montenegro in the symposium. Many of them know Ice Power and use the Ice Power products in their professions every day. ICE POWER marathon trainings in Portugal Marathons have become more and more popular everywhere in the world. In Portugal marathons have become so popular that the Portuguese Ice Power distributor, Mercafar S.A. started to arrange Ice Power marathon trainings that take place in evenings some weeks before the actual marathons. The marathon trainings gather the runners willing to participate in a marathon and allow them train together – everyone can join the training. “Thank you for the fantastic evening again. Everytime that I train with you I like it more. Congrats for the group that is getting bigger and better everytime ”; says Paulo Bessa Bessa in the last Ice Power marathon training in April in Porto, Portugal.

What are your best results so far?

Kaisa Lehtonen, a Finnish triathlonist

This summer I won a silver medal in ITU Long Distance World Championship. I also have quite many podium places in ITU Olympic Distance Continental Cups and Ironman 70.3 races. I am also multiple Finnish champion in sprint and Olympic and Half distance triathlons.

Have you had any injuries? Actually I have had quite many injuries and because of those I am still a bit like a rookie in long distance triathlon even though I am not so young any more. I lost about 8 years in different kinds of back and knee problems. The most severe was when my knee accidentally twisted and the inner ligament was detached and there were severe bruises in the cartilage and in some bones. I could not run for 10 months after that.

What are the most common injuries in triathlon?

A Finnish triathlonist Kaisa Lehtonen placed 2nd in ITU Long Distance World Championship in China this summer. The silver medal was the first World Championship medal in triathlon that a Finnish triathlonist has ever won. Kaisa has been treating herself with Ice Power already for several years since in this challenging and rough sport injuries and muscle strain are inevitable. Why triathlon? The best thing in triathlon must be the challenge. It’s quite hard to be able to perform in three quite different sports and you must have so much endurance and discipline, both physically and mentally, to be able to combine those sports together in a race situation.

How did you get into triathlon? When I was twelve-years-old I heard about an event in Hawaii and immediately wanted to go and try how hard is it to do the 180 km biking. So I went for a ride on my pink mountain bike with my father. I will never forget the feeling that I had when I finished that ride! I just knew that this is something I want more. Anyway I didn’t start to train biking or running until I turned 17 after I stopped training for competitive swimming.

What motivates you? Where do you get the motivation to do the training? It has never been hard for me to train. Actually it is a lot harder to keep the balance in between recovery and training and not to train too much. I must be so hooked on the endorphins ;). The versatility in triathlon training is also quite fun as you never get too bored.

What is your goal? My ultimate goal is to become the best triathlonist I can be. Anyway I am aiming for standing on the podium in Ironman World Championship in Hawaii on 2017 or 2018. Before that I want to go to the Rio Olympics (2016) in triathlon and/or marathon running.

The most common injuries in my sport are all kinds of overuse injuries like stress fractures etc. Anyway all my problems have been more related to accidents or muscular imbalances. During the last years I have devoted time for recovery from the hard training and that way concentrated on avoiding injuries.

Do you know Ice Power products? Have you been using them? I have found Ice Power products very useful in many situations. I always have the Ice Power Instant Cold bags in my car so if an accident happens during the training I can immediately use them.
