IGNOU invites in-service teachers for programme in disability

26 January 2011 MEDIA RELEASE IGNOU invites in-service teachers for programme in disability The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) National Centre for Disability Studies (NCDS) in collaboration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) invites application for its special certified training programme on inclusive education for school teachers ‘Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities’ (FCED) for its February 2011 batch.

The course certified by IGNOU and recognized by RCI offers distance education programmes currently in Hindi and English medium but will also be shortly available in Bangla, Malyalam, Tamil, Oriya and other mediums. Practical training is also imparted to students at RCI recognized study centres under the guidance of qualified resource teachers. State sponsorship is also available for Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers.

Teachers should enroll in this programme for a better understanding of educational needs of children with disabilities. They shall learn to undertake appropriate classroom management of children with disabilities, build competencies to include children with disabilities in school activities and shall also learn to undertake remedial or dual teaching for children with mental retardation and learning disabilities.

Any in-service teacher from any school is eligible to apply in this programme. The programme fee is Rs.1500 for three months with flexibility of course completion upto nine months.

Printed learning materials will be provided to the learning teachers along with multi-media support.

They would also be provided with a provisional registration from RCI to work as a special educator.
