Tuesday - June 17, 2014, AADC present women in Power Success earned & Lessons Learned Over 60 women and men joined at Athena Restaurant, with great speakers: Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos of Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Professor Ghada Talhami a Professor & Author, and Ms. Siham Rashid a Bir Zeit University (Palestine) U.N. Women. Chicago, IL – Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos was joined by a professor and a philanthropist as they discussed their personal and professional experiences on a panel entitled “Women In Power: Success Earned and Lessons Learned”, hosted by the Arab American Democratic Club. The crowd listened eagerly as the three women shared stories about success they achieved, challenges they faced, and the motivations throughout their lives. A lively question and answer session followed.
“Women face different challenges in their lives, some more difficult than others. I have been blessed with supportive family and friends who have helped me become stronger. It is important for each of us to try to help other women, especially those who are aspiring to do more,” said Commissioner Spyropoulos. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is an award-winning special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management. MWRD’s mission is to protect the health and safety of the public, the quality of the water supply source (Lake Michigan) and protect businesses and homes from flood damages. - Khaled Elkhatib

Maklouba &Bowling Rise up 5th Annual Maklouba Bowl Event Friday - June 20, 2014, family and friends gathered at the Orland Park Bowling for the support of Rise up on Yahala Voice. What makes the event enjoyable is adding the famous Middle Eastern dish, “Maklouba�. Maklouba means upsidedown. It is a traditional dish made in the Middle East, includes meat, rice and fried vegetables places in the pot. Once it is time to serve, the pot is flipped upside-down. In this event, the team who bowls the highest score will get to flip the Maklouba. As everyone enjoyed there night with bowling, food, entertainment, and listening live Rise Up with Rush Darwish. Rise up is the voice for Arab & Muslim in news and addressing the issue in what is happening around the world. In the end of the event, was the moment everyone had waited for the winners to flip the Maklouba. It was a great night for family fun with Rise Up.
