Join us for this dynamic four day summit. Centrally positioned at the axis of innovation and transformation, the Hutchison Leads Summit: Empowering the Women of Today and Tomorrow will enable participants to tackle relevant issues while also learning about women who are renowned catalysts for community transformations. 21st century challenges require 21st century leadership models, innovations, and solutions. Through this enriching professional development opportunity, educators will examine nationally recognized girls’ leadership initiatives that equip girls to lead in regional, national, and global arenas. During the student modules, teams of young women will engage with Memphis as a leadership laboratory. Experiential learning will be supported by faculty and expert advising and teaching that will provide students with the tools to impact compelling issues of our time. Topics include poverty, hunger, education reform, urban revitalization, and the relationships between female empowerment and economic growth.

Program Highlights Using Memphis as a leadership laboratory, girls will participate in experiential modules on and off campus. Trained faculty and experts in relevant content areas will facilitate small and large group learning sessions focusing on the following topics: • Environmental Sustainability: Challenges and Innovative Solutions • The Poverty Cycle: What Is My Role? • Urban Revitalization: Economic and Neighborhood Renewal • Education Reform: Where Do I Stand? • Health and Wellness: For Everybody • The Arts as a Vehicle for Transformation

Educators in attendance will hear from nationally recognized girls’ leadership programs. The modules in this section will provide examples, ideas, best practices, challenges, and solutions to central questions such as: • What does it mean to teach leadership? • What are the most effective methods for harnessing the growth of girls’ leadership skills? • What leadership skills are required of our next generation of women leaders? • How are schools across the nation addressing girls’ leadership development? • How can I bring what I have learned from the summit back to my school’s curricular and co-curricular offerings? • How can this learning impact the ways that I teach, advise and/or coach girls? Case studies in innovative and effective leadership will be further enhanced by opportunities for all participants to hear from impactful national and regional speakers. Students and teachers from participating schools will convene in Memphis to collaborate in ways that will have a ripple effect in our partner schools and communities.
