On a typical day, a girl may be inspired to write poetry about plant growth, use math formulas to figure out space dimensions on the farm, get her hands dirty harvesting vegetables in science, and practice new vocabulary words when she uses those vegetables to explore farm-to-table cuisine in Chinese class. That’s how it’s done at Hutchison. Teachers forge connections across subjects, and a girl thinks creatively about how to approach subjects from various vantage points. Learning is a complex, lifelong journey, and a girl deserves to have a journey built around her unique skills. Our all-girl learning environment and our focus on each girl translate to confident learners who are not afraid to take risks. Every grade level rewards intellectual curiosity. The second-grade girl who is enthralled with storytelling today may end up filming documentaries in upper school. The experience culminates in upper school— college counseling begins freshman year, and a girl plots a journey tailored to her individual talents and interests. A robust curriculum of honors, advanced honors, and advanced placement courses prepares Hutchison graduates for success in a global society.

Our fine arts teachers are working professionals, and our championship athletics program prepares girls to compete at the collegiate level. Not every girl is destined to be on center stage or the star goalie. That’s okay. We offer a wide array of activities and, most importantly, we offer the guidance and gentle encouragement that are sometimes necessary to urge a girl to try something different. Attempting a new skill can be daunting, but mastering it is empowering. We are equally vested in a girl’s intellectual, physical, and social well-being.
