THE COLOMBIA TRAIL MASTERS 2014 KAENG KRACHAN JULY 6th The First Thailand Trail Running Championship

This is a family event open to everyone. Local schools and communities have been invited and hundreds of young happy faces are expected to compete in the fun run. Children games and a bouncing castle will be there for kids on the day. Do not miss this festive running party! Apart from the 3 km trail run/walk for kids and families, registration is required by July 1st. Why trail running? When people think of running, they most often picture running on the road or running on a track. But, a lot of runners opt to run on hiking trails in natural settings. Trail running combines the beautiful outdoor scenery of hiking with the physical challenges of running. If you are the type that loves

being in beautiful, outdoor settings, then trail running is something for you. In addition to the regular running benefits such as improved fitness level and potential weight loss, trail running is also a lot better on the joints. Running on hard surfaces such as pavement and concrete can be tough on the bones and joints. People who suffer from things like shin splints and knee problems often report that they don’t experience these problems on trails! THAILAND JET SKI CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND AT CHA-AM BEACH

For the third year Round Three of the 2014 Thailand Jet Ski Championship will be held

on the beach at Cha-Am on the weekend of the 7th and 8th June. The Event will be supported by the Cha-Am Municipality and the Petchaburi Provincial Government in support of the region’s tourism promotion strategy. The venue is ideal for both competitors and spectators with plenty of vantage points near the viewpoint and a dedicated racing area to allow the racers to give their best on the open waters. Water sports at the Cha-Am beach provide another focus for the city to showcase its

tourism potential. We’ve already had kite flying, banana boat racing, the bikini beach run and there’s more to come! The Jet Ski Championship features some outstanding world-class Thai professional racers with machines rated from 800 to 1,600 cc. It gives competitors their chance to compete for Thailand in the upcoming World Jet Ski Championship and for spectators a chance to see the thrills and spills of this exciting sport up close and personal.

ANOTHER WAY TO COOL DOWN Petchaburi’s River Playground

If you are looking for a way to escape the heat, an alternative to the beach and salt water, don’t have access to a swimming pool but long for a dip in some cooling fresh water, we have the answer! If you take the exit from the main Cha-Am to Bangkok highway west heading towards Kaeng Krachan National Park you’ll find yourself following a narrow canal or klong before veering right through a small village. After that you’ll come to a relatively new bridge crossing the Petchaburi River. Just drive over the bridge then immediately turn right. You will

come to a parking area with a small number of food and drink vendors and families sitting alongside the river under shading shelters. The distance from Cha-Am is around 15 kilometres. The river at this point is just below a gate regulating the amount of water released, so there is a clean, clear, gently flowing river, only waist deep and refreshingly cool, not cold. No floating debris or aquatic creatures to be concerned about and smooth pebbles are on the river bed. It’s easy to stand or wade, although maybe ‘flip flops’ if your feet are on the sensitive side.

Kids love it here. It’s a very user friendly picnic place where you can easily join in the aquatic fun or just keep as eye on the kids enjoying the stream. Seating mats, inner tubes or small plastic dinghies can be rented or bring your own inflatable may be the go. We spotted one green inflatable elephant (chang naam?) which really suited the surroundings. Foreigners are few and far between but that’s not an issue, the locals are very welcoming. w For some this will be a reminder of the local river ‘swimming hole’ enjoyed during their own childhood after school. We hope that

our photos will give you an appreciation of this very pleasant chill-out venue, well worth an afternoon’s drive to relive those innocent times.
