HOME MATCH A NEW IDEA FOR HOUSING

Do you have an extra room in your home? Are you looking for an affordable place to live? Covia, a nonprofit providing housing and services for older adults, is excited to partner with the City of Fremont to assume management of the successful shared housing program previously offered by HIP Housing. Home Match will continue to assist home seekers who work, live, or go to school in Fremont by matching them with home providers in Fremont, Newark, or Union City. Our program is open to participants of any age.

Through Home Match, home providers receive monthly rent income and/or an exchange of services to provide help with things such as grocery shopping, pet care, or transportation. Home seekers benefit from affordable rent and an established community. Both benefit from companionship. Covia’s Home Match staff looks forward to building relationships with community partners to offer a solution to meet the escalating Bay Area housing crisis. For more information, please contact Home Match at 510.574.2173.

FREMONT GIVES Support the Personal Urgent Need Fund for Seniors! While our cover story talks about housing alternatives, we also know that being able to weather – and afford – small emergencies often makes the difference in being able to stay housed. Our Personal

Urgent Need (PUN) Fund helps seniors resolve unexpected home expenses, an inability to pay a utility bill, or other emergency expenses during a time of crisis. Can you give $25 – or more – to support the PUN Fund? Please also plan to attend the upcoming 25th

anniversary Seniors Night Out (see page 2), which also benefits the PUN Fund. Donate online at www.fremont. gov/SeniorCenter, or contact John Nguyen-Cleary at 510.574.2049 or jnguyen-cleary@fremont.gov to discuss other giving opportunities.
