Readers Choice 2017

And the winners are...

Celebrating HR’s best vendors Dear Readers,

I

t was a pleasure for HRM Asia to host the Readers’ Choice Awards 2017 on the evening of September 8. Held in the magnificent ballroom of Capella Hotel in Singapore’s Sentosa Island, the showpiece event saw over 240 guests settle down for a night of exquisite food and wine, and a chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues. At the same time, 38 different accolades were presented to the best HR service providers working in areas ranging from Recruitment, HR Technology, and Health and Wellness, to Leadership and Mobility Services. Each winner has been consistently delivering high-quality products and services to the wider HR community over the past year. Readers of HRM Asia voted for each of the awards highlighted in this commemorative guide. Their votes (70%) were combined with the verdicts of our independent panel of judges (30%) to come up with each award winner. It was heartening to see that those celebrated comprised of a healthy mix of global organisations, robust start-ups and local SMEs – rightly regarded as the backbone of Singapore’s economy. This was a testament of the hard work and dedication personified by all winners, with their achievements being richly recognised by our esteemed readers. With disruption and innovation now the buzzwords of the working world, the Readers’ Choice Awards encapsulated these themes as nominees and winners alike shared how they embraced these complexities to come up with cutting-edge and niche solutions for an increasingly fragmented market. On behalf of HRM Asia, I would like to offer my sincere thanks, appreciation, and warmest congratulations to all nominees and the night’s eventual winners. This Commemorative Guide – published in tandem with our October issue – takes an in-depth look at all winners as they share their secrets for success and their plans moving forward. Once again, congratulations to all the winners!

Best Recruitment Firm - Mass Recruitment ER WINN

People Advantage

Mass recruitment is big business in Singapore and Southeast Asia, with large numbers of both roles and candidates, as well as a broad range of experience levels, involved with any single contract. But that doesn’t mean the recruiters can afford to ignore customer service and engagement as a priority – far from it. For Ezra He, Account Director, these are the two distinct advantages that help People Advantage stand out in the market, and in the Best Recruitment Firm – Mass Recruitment category of the Readers’ Choice Awards. “This means conducting regular engagement sessions with both our clients and candidates to gather feedback on how we can add value to them,” he said. The solid backing of parent

company Certis also helps to ensure People Advantage has a strong candidate pool to compete for the biggest recruitment contracts. “We’re also indentified as one of Certis’ three major recruitment engines” He said. “That’s massive! These welltuned engines power our recruitment needs and enable us to expand our candidate pool.” The future also looks strong for the three-time winner in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, with He noting that the company is embarking on multiple new projects to expand the business even further. “One of our key priorities will be to look out for and implement more efficient and innovative technologies to further value-add to both our customers and candidates.”

Client service and experience can often take a second tier position when a recruitment firm considers its biggest priorities, but for Resource Solutions, they are the first and foremost focus. Simon Bradberry, Managing Director, says the company prides itself on being “big enough to count” but also “small enough to care”, with enhanced client support available through Global Service Centres located in both India and the Philippines. He was absolutely thrilled to see the company take out the Best Recruitment Firm – Client Experience accolade at the HRM Asia Readers’ Choice Awards for the second year in a row. “We’re delighted to have received the award for Best Client Experience,” he said. “The whole team, across all C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

accounts and locations, has worked so hard over the past year, and for that dedication to our clients to be recognised with this award is really inspiring and gratifying. “We feel it’s a hugely positive endorsement from our clients and that they not only trust us but enjoy working with us,” Bradberry said. The client focus has ensured strong returns, with many long-standing commitments from both large and small organisations in place. “The future looks really positive, and hugely exciting,” Bradberry said. “As awards like this prove, we’ve got a great team who are living and breathing our mission of always striving to reimagine what the industry defines as ‘best’. That bodes really well for the future.”

Best Recruitment Firm - Senior Positions ER WINN

In today’s disruptive and complex working environment, recruiting employees who can function in senior leadership roles have never been more crucial. But in order to successfully do that, it is vital for recruitment firms to foster robust ties with the movers and shakers in the corporate world, and to engage in deep networking with their counterparts. Hays, the winner of the Best Recruitment Firm – Senior Positions category at this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, recognises that establishing a global brand is key to building a successful business platform. “Our mission is always to go above and beyond the call of duty, delivering value on several fronts to our candidates and clients. “As a result we are continually building and developing strong relationships with key decision makers across each of

the markets in which we operate,” said Adam Edwards, Business Director, Hays Singapore. Edwards said the team was delighted to be recognised and acknowledged for all of the hard work employees put in to every client and candidate relationship. “Our mentality is all about continuous improvement so we have already begun to discuss how we can retain the award next year,” he said. Edwards reiterated that Hays’ quest for continuous feedback – through candidate and client engagement surveys – helps the organisation analyse how it can better serve the people within its markets. “We are always looking for new ways to add value to those that we work with and the digital revolution is providing us with some wonderful opportunities in this regard,” he added.

RGF established itself in Singapore in 2010 and has been consolidating its position across a wide range of specialisations ever since. James Miles, Managing Director of RGF says the company strives to find a balance between both the “art” and the “science” of recruitment. “This combination has underlined and created a solid reputation for RGF,” he said. That has led to two wins in the HRM Asia Readers’ Choice Awards in 2017, with the accolade for Best Recruitment Firm – Accounting, Banking, and Finance positions particularly satisfying for Miles and the team. “Having only solidified our Accounting, Banking and Finance specialist team in 2015, we were very late to this competitive market segment. To win this specific Readers’ Choice Award just two years later is a testament to the valuable network and business philosophy that this team has

RGF

developed,” he adds. “Through hiring the best talent and sticking with RGF’s core principles of integrity and engagement, the team has made a huge impact within a short timeframe.” RGF, which also won the award for Best Recruitment Firm – Sales and Marketing positions, still has higher accomplishments in mind. “We are extremely lucky to have a very supportive and innovative Group Company and headquarters based in Tokyo that continues to listen, back, and empower us. As we continue to grow our footprint within Asia-Pacific and globally, we will continue to take a keen interest in improving the support customers receive across Southeast Asia in particular, as many organisations will continue to have challenges and require further partnership in these exciting emerging markets.” C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

Winning across two categories of the Readers’ Choice Awards in 2017 has been particularly gratifying for James Miles, Managing Director of RGF, and his team at the fast-growing specialist recruitment provider. “RGF has come on leaps and bounds since its inception back in 2010 and is now regarded as one of the key players in Singapore’s highly-competitive Recruitment and Executive Search market,” he said. “Drawing on our unparalleled expertise, innovative technology and global presence, we successfully transformed the way we operate and being recognised by the HR community is testament to the team’s hard work and our continual efforts to improve our services for clients as a onestop solutions provider.” Miles says RGF’s win in the Best Recruitment Firm – Sales and Marketing

positions category was particularly satisfying. “Sales and Marketing positions have always been our main service offering and the lynch pin of our business success, so receiving the award for this category is a huge honour for us,” he said. “These are very difficult positions to fill, so it takes a special type of talent with extremely high emotional intelligence skills to both understand the clients’ requirements as well as identify the best fit.” RGF, which also won the Readers’ Choice Award for Best Recruitment Firm – Accounting, Finance and Banking positions, is looking forward to a strong and dynamic future, embracing the new digital age with enthusiasm and intelligence. “While technology is the future and will continue to disrupt the market, finding a balance and never losing face-to-face engagement with candidates and clients will always be one of RGF’s core principles,” Miles said.

Best Recruitment Firm - Local ER WINN

Even in open and cosmopolitan Singapore, local-level recruitment is an important segment of the sourcing market. As might be expected, it is also the segment with the most number of players and some of the fiercest competitors. For People Advantage, winner of three Readers’ Choice Awards in 2017, including the prized Best Recruitment Firm – Local accolade, this is exactly the challenge it thrives upon, with superior customer service the secret weapon in its arsenal. “Well, for starters, we strongly advocate customer engagement,” said Michelle Tai, Senior Manager of Talent Link with People Advantage, when asked what contributed to the hat-trick win.

People Advantage

This involves regularly checking in with clients and candidates (both those successfully placed and those not) and gaining their feedback on how People Advantage can improve even further. Tai says that while the company was extremely proud to win all three Readers’ Choice Awards, the Best Recruitment Firm – Local category was particularly important. “Winning the ‘Best Recruitment Firm – Local’ award for the second year is extra special to us,” she said. “It is an amazing achievement to be recognised amongst the other established and budding players in the local industry.” Tai also took a moment to thank the awards organisers. “We’re very grateful to HRM Asia for providing this platform to acknowledge great recruitment companies,” she said. Having won the Best Recruitment Firm – International award for the second consecutive year now, Hays has firmly entrenched itself as one of the preeminent leaders in the world of global recruitment. Best Serviced Apartment Group ER WINN

Serviced apartments are frequently a HR professional’s most crucial asset in serving organisational needs while keeping deployed and relocated employees happy. Oakwood Asia-Pacific, for its part, provides a total package that has proved hard to beat. It boasts among the largest number of locations in the region, with in-depth local knowledge and all-dayeveryday responsive customer care. The organisation, which won the Best Serviced Apartment Group award, stands out from the crowd for its top-notch, customer-first approach. “Our clients appreciate our reliability and consistency, flexible solutions, quality products and being easy to do business with, and we intend to continue keeping their faith,” said Christine Mechtler, Director of Marketing communications at Oakwood Asia-Pacific. “We have been

around for more than half a century because of the strong bonds with our customers.” Moving forward, Oakwood aims to continue growing its comprehensive duty of care programme that seeks to minimise disruptions to guests — and to continue best serving guests by strengthening the capabilities and skills of its own staff. “Following on our aggressive 35% growth in 2016, where we expanded into four new countries and introduced two new products, we continue to extend our branded footprint into new, strategic markets and key existing markets,” said Mechtler. “We will definitely continue building on our 50 years of customer service excellence as well as align our business practices across different business lines and geographies,” she added.

Far East Hospitality’s Village brand seeks to provide today’s discerning travellers with local and authentic experiences. Village Residence Robertson Quay is no exception. One of the property’s most distinctive attributes is that it is located close to the culturally-rich Chinatown and Little India in Singapore. This provides business travellers, who are here on a mid to long-term stay, with the opportunity to eat, play, and explore like a local. The property is also only a short drive away from the Central Business District, Marina Bay Financial Centre, and Changi Airport, making it convenient for travellers to move between these places. The busy professional looking to unwind after a long day of work can also enjoy facilities such as its swimming pool, and fitness centre. The ease of access to first-class amenities within the serviced residence

ensure business travellers’ productivity, efficiency, and connectivity. But as Livia Choo, Villa Residence Robertson Quay’s Residence Manager says, what makes the property stand out is the local flavours guests get to experience. “It is our customer-focused approach towards ‘Singapore-inspired’ hospitality that balances today’s sophisticated travellers’ business and lifestyle needs,” says Choo. Serviced apartments have long appealed to travellers looking beyond usual hotel options. Going forward, Choo says Far East Hospitality will continue to enhance the personal touches from staff, to create meaningful and unforgettable experiences that stem from the heart. “We are delighted to receive the award for the second time. Park Hotel Clarke Quay Park Hotel Clarke Quay, strategically located in central Singapore and facing the country’s historic sea-trading artery, is guided by its vision of being “a world renowned brand in hospitality” in Singapore. And as its General Manager Dino Lim shares, this means the hotel is constantly making changes, upgrading, and listening to both guests and employees from every department. “Every comment received is a step to improve, and making the place better for all who come.” One of our main attraction points is to provide services as a top condition,” says Lim, adding that this quality is what made the property stand out from the competition in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. More than just keeping to standards, we will strive to improve and do better than before,” Lim says. Park Hotel Clarke Quay seeks to continue giving every guest an amazing experience by providing them with a personal touch. “Each change we make, we will do our best to enlighten one’s day”, understanding a guest’s needs and improving their work-stay puts a smile on their face, making their time with us even more enjoyable,” Lim elaborates. “Bringing in better and more convenient products is one of our main tasks to make guests feel home.”

Many options in Singapore cater to the regular business traveller – from a typical executive lounge and business centre, to more traditional meeting spaces. But Sandy Liw, Executive Account Manager, Sales & Marketing, believes Capella Singapore, this year’s Best Business Hotel – C-Suite, offers something much more unique for corporate travellers. “In today’s fast-paced and highly digitalised world that we live in, Capella Singapore is a luxurious retreat away from our daily stress and work,” says Liw. Located away from the city’s hustle and bustle on Sentosa Island, the resort offers business leaders a relaxing hideout to unwind, while also catering to their every need during the stay. “Our guests can trust us in perfecting their business-leisure trips C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

This is because it only houses 112 rooms, suites, villas and manors in all – an intimate number among other offerings on the island. A Forbes Five Star Hotel for five consecutive years, every corner of its grounds is also surrounded by lush and natural vegetation that helps to inspire creative thinking and professional selfreflection. From the tranquil library, ideal for one to catch up on emails, to one of the largest hotel suites in Singapore, Capella Singapore is the epitome of ultra-luxury work travel for senior executives.

Best Corporate MICE Venue ER WINN

Capella Singapore, this year’s Best Corporate MICE Venue winner, is home to two ballrooms that are vastly different from those offered elsewhere. Located on Singapore’s Sentosa Island, the resort’s Grand Ballroom is the only circular ballroom in Singapore, offering a distinct and intimate atmosphere even when sitting up to 500 people in a theatre setting. A second space, called the Sentosa Room, is considered as the perfect setting for business meetings. It is equipped with a full-panelled window that allows natural sunlight to shine in, while overlooking the majestic South China Sea. Both ballrooms in Capella Singapore come fitted with spacious reception areas for cocktail, networking, or meeting breaks. The island destination, according

Capella Singapore

to General Manager Fernando Gibaja, also offers something that the market lacks and suits top decision makers in particular – the luxury of unique spaces, as well as a thought-inducing environment. Gibaja believes his team’s dedication to delivering top-notch service is another reason why it was chosen by HRM Asia readers as the Best Corporate MICE Venue. “This recognition is a true testament to what our team members are passionate about and work for – an unparalleled level of service like no other,” he says. “We will continue to work hard, constantly keep up with the market trends to continue providing an undisputed suite of service and facilities for our esteemed guests.”

Since it underwent a $184 million renovation in 2012, Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre has played host to an impressive list of large-scale exhibitions, including HRM Asia’s annual HR Summit. Emerging as this year’s Best Corporate MICE Venue in the Large Scale category, the exhibition grounds stood out from the rest of the nominees because of its customercentric offerings, says Daniel Ang, Senior Director of Operations. “This arises from our ability to successfully combine an ideal location, flexible meeting spaces, new technology, culinary excellence, and our team of dedicated service professionals to offer a seamless, customised experience for our clients and their participants,” says Ang. Suntec Singapore’s strategic focus has also successfully paved the way for

investments and initiatives geared towards creating exceptional experiences for every event. Some of these key initiatives include adding WiFi-based location analytics, introducing affordable and easy-to-deploy top technology, as well as promoting the event services industry with a one-stop directory of best-in-class service providers. Being voted by HRM Asia readers as this year’s Best Corporate Relocation Provider validates all the work that the company is currently doing. “This endorsement confirms that we are not alone in our belief and direction, and we will continue to push the service envelope, giving our assignees the relocation experience of their lives,” says Sterling.

Times Software

After completing a hat-trick of victories, the last of which came in the Best HR Tech - Cloud Solution category, Justin Tan, Software Support Manager at Times Software, admitted that the final gong capped off a perfect night. The organisation had earlier scooped home the Best HR Tech – Payroll and Best HR Tech – Outsourcing awards respectively. “We feel honoured to have won not just one but three different categories,” said Tan. “At the same time, we feel overjoyed and thankful for having a group of loyal customers who have voted for us. It is a confirmation of our excellent products and services that can help them to streamline customers’ operations.” Tan believed there was a key factor that enabled his company to stand out from its other distinguished competitors

for this final award. “We believe that focusing on providing a solution that is scalable, reliable, and easy to implement – without having to invest in hardware and infrastructure resources – is what made us stand out from our fellow nominees,” he said. “We won’t be satisfied with our current successes. We will strive even harder for our customers to give them the best product and services we can offer. In the next five years, we will be looking forward to accelerating our regional expansion.” Tan said he was equally proud of all three awards. “We treat all categories with equal importance as every single award recognises the different aspects of our company’s product and services,” he added.

For many organisations, managing the leave applications of employees can be an extremely tedious and laborious process. This is even more so in larger companies where the workforces number in the thousands. But with Unit4’s Prosoft HR Management System, HR teams can manage and track every element and requirement of their entire workforce, including leave entitlements and applications, all in one platform. Built within the Prosoft system, the leave management solution makes it easier and more convenient for employees to manage their leave applications. Best HR Tech - Employee Assessment Tool ER WINN

Employee assessments can be intensely useful and productive if done well – and if HR, managers, and employees alike can focus on the process and not worry about wrangling software. Fortunately, this is the exact philosophy that drives iqDynamics, which won the Readers’ Choice Award for Best HR Tech – Employee Assessment Tool. “Our Performance Appraisal system, while highly comprehensive, is easy to use and can be integrated with other HR and Learning Management Systems to provide a complete solution,” said Mahendra Bodduluri, Managing Director of iqDynamics. “Our team also continuously takes feedback from customers to understand their pain points and enhance the value of our product,” he added. The strong work ethic also led the

iqDynamics

company to win a second award in 2017, for Best HR Tech – Learning Management System. Bodduluri, who was jubilant about the wins, highlighted that a key ingredient in the company’s success was its people – very apt for a company that serves the people-managing customer base of HR professionals. “I would like to thank every single employee in our company for their consistent effort in developing our HRiQ HRMS and Talent Management System to allow it to be the award winning system it is today,” he said. Bodduluri says working closely with HR customers, and investing in the latest technologies, will remain an important strategy for iqDynamics as it seeks to continuously improve its suite of offerings now and in the future.

Best HR Tech - Claim Management System ER WINN

RACHEL SWEE Managing Director Ready Software

Ready Software

Managing claims is perhaps one of the most time-consuming and tedious tasks affecting both HR professional and general employees – so any technology tool that makes the process easier and more painless can be more valuable than gold to the HR team that wants to concentrate on higher-level business strategy. That’s where Ready Software comes in, and blows the competition out of the water. As winners of the Best HR Tech – Claim Management System award, they know what HR and accounting professionals need, and continuously aim to provide the best solutions available. “Ready Software has more than 20 years’ software development experience and history, and we have always been very positive of its future because we develop what people want,” said Rachel Swee, Managing Director of Ready Software.

She notes that ReadyClaim, the company’s claims management solution, is part of a suite of options that aims to optimise organisational productivity and save valuable man-hours. Nonetheless, her team is excited by the win and intent on continuing to provide the HR community with best-in-class services and solutions. “We knew ReadyClaim was wellreceived by our customers for being user friendly and for its practical concept. Still, we are pleasantly surprise for winning Best HR Tech – Claim Management System in HRM Asia’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2017,” she said. “We plan to continue to develop more internet applications for the HR community and employees where users can access from anywhere and at anytime,” she added.

In the age of disruption, HR professionals are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding software and digital tools that meets their needs. But iqDynamics stands out from the pack – so much so that it won two Readers’ Choice Awards in 2017, for both Best HR Tech – Learning Management System, and also Best HR Tech – Employee Assessment Tool. But Mahendra Bodduluri, Managing Director of iqDynamics, was modest about the company’s success. “We take pride in both wins equally. We believe our mission of developing good talent management systems that integrate well with our HR Management Systems that the customers will find it functional and help them to implement strategic HR processes easily,” he said. He noted that iqDynamics’ Learning Management system, in particular, C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

provides a flexible and customisable infrastructure for clients to adapt to their needs. “Our Learning Management System works with each company’s HR competency framework, assisting HR to formulate and manage accurate and comprehensive training programmes for every employee productively,” he said. “Furthermore, the ability to integrate with our HR Management System and performance management module as well as external e-learning providers is a huge advantage for our customers.” So what’s next for iqDynamics? Bodduluri highlighted that the company is committed to continue listening to and working with its customers to keep evolving its integrated human capital management system.

Best HR Tech - Talent Management System ER WINN

From new joiners to retiring staff, it is HR’s job to track, manage and analyse personnel in every way possible. That’s a truckload of data to have to deal with. But what if there was a system where information was automatically retrieved, instead of HR having to painstakingly track each individual’s data down? Unit4, named this year’s Best HR Tech – Talent Management System in the Readers’ Choice Awards, has a solution that is able to do all that. Called Prosoft, the system is developed to work the way HR works. It gives HR teams the ability to attract and retain talent, and manage them on a competent solution platform. In the process, HR is able to work smarter and take on a more strategic business role.

Unit4

The HR management platform provides the kind of clear, easy, instinctual interface that is common in consumer technologies and rarely found in business. Key tasks are automated, information contextualised, and simple yet powerful tools empower people to make the right decisions. Rachel Chung, HR Director, AsiaPacific, Unit4, says the team is extremely motivated by the win. “We are delighted to be recognised by our clients and our industry peers for our hard work. Winning these two awards demonstrates our commitment to delivering the best service to our clients,” says Chung. “At Unit4, we are in business for people, so we design our solutions to help employees in people-centric organisations,” she adds.

When it comes to the screening of candidates, clients desire an effective service that allows them to make the best possible decision for the organisation. RISQ Group – which scooped home the Best Background Screening Provider accolade – thinks this simple philosophy is what made it stand out from the rest of the pack. “We believe RISQ Group stood out because we have consistently followed a simple and powerful vision: to build the best employment screening and verification offering in the AsiaPacific region,” said Michelle Soon, the company’s Screening Manager. “With RISQ Group, the customer knows they are getting a team of experienced screening professionals devoted to delivering the best employment screening and verification

Best Corporate Learning & Development Provider ER WINN

Marketing Institute of Singapore Having been in business for 44 years, Marketing Institute of Singapore’s (MIS) stellar track record speaks for itself. Christina Ho, Head, Executive Development Services at MIS attributes the institution’s success to two factors: its wide range of products, and its people. “Our course directory boasts one of the widest selection of courses in Singapore; customers are indeed spoiled for choice,” says Ho. Courses are constantly refreshed with the latest curricula to keep customers at the forefront of their evolving business needs. “It is encouraging to hear from our customers on how they have benefitted significantly from this learning process to become more successful and empowered in their careers,” Ho shares. As this year’s Best Corporate Learning & Development Provider winner, she adds

CHRISTINA HO Head, Executive Development Services Marketing Institute of Singapore

that employees are also undoubtedly at the core of all operations. “We are glad to have a team of highly dedicated staff, who go beyond the distance in recommending the most suitable courses to our customers,” says Ho. But the training and development centre believes it still has more work to do. “To meet the business needs of the digitalised economy, we will be incorporating more regional content into our curriculum through our continual engagement with industry leaders and overseas partners,” says Ho. “Given the high penetration rate of smart devices in Singapore, we are exploring the development of mobile applications to create a dynamic platform for course participants to interact, exchange ideas, and track their own learning goals.”

TrainingGearAsia

TrainingGearAsia, which has worked with such global corporations as Citibank, Nestlé, and Panasonic, attributes its success and win in this category, to being a trendsetter. Founding director and behavioural transformation coach Joseph Wong says this stems from his team’s belief in not blindly chasing after the latest and hottest solutions. “Rather, we believe in being daring enough to do otherwise, which in turn serves our clientele better,” says Wong. “This allows our market to identify us as a solutions hub that dares to be different.” Consequently, Wong has found that TrainingGearAsia today attracts many clients who seek to challenge the status quo and want to make a “big impact”. “We observe and focus on what’s most practical, especially here in Asia-Pacific, and C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

we challenge the trend so as to improve the solution,” Wong says, adding that clients now see the company as a lead provider of highly-customised and insightful solutions. While the TrainingGearAsia team is extremely excited about being named the Best Talent Development Provider, its priority remains in being a trusted solutions developer. Wong says product offerings on their own are not the most important factor for success. Rather, what’s pivotal is the ability to continue being different and consistently provide brand new perspectives to clients in developing their people. “I’m glad that we have set a high benchmark in providing unique perspectives to our clientele, which is the strongest internal resource we have,” he says.

Readers Choice 2017

Best Corporate Talent Engagement Provider ER WINN

In line with its stance on always being unique, TrainingGearAsia is also constantly challenging and redefining the meaning of “engagement”. “We see engagement not as an intervention, but asking the question of ‘how can we embed engagement within an organisation?’ The answer lies in career conversations,” says Joseph Wong, TrainingGearAsia’s Founding Director and behavioural coach. TrainingGearAsia first pioneered the concept of career conversations in 2011 as a form of highly sustainable engagement. It has been tailoring the model for individual organisations ever since. Wong says this unique talent engagement strategy helps companies build their employer brand, which then attracts more talent, and leads to greater

TrainingGearAsia

employee retention. While other engagement providers might focus on retention as an end goal, at TrainingGearAsia, it’s about ensuring that the talent “returns” to the organisation day after day. But despite being crowned this year’s Best Talent Engagement Provider, Wong believes staff engagement still has a long way to go both in Asia and globally, especially in the key challenge of understanding what it really means. “Winning this award actually spells out the fact that we have a lot more to do, and we plan to use this award to help us in reaching out to organisations in redefining engagement in Asia,” he says. “This award is a testament of what we have been doing for the past several years on career conversations and experiential onboarding,” Wong adds.

Best Corporate Leadership Programme ER WINN

As a company, the Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Academy (APAC SMA) is all about helping its clients try new things. Abhijit Banerjee, Director of APAC SMA, says the objective, no matter what the area of focus is, has always been in helping clients set the trend and create best practices in their own industries. A large part of APAC SMA’s success, says Banerjee, has been because it was willing to go against the grain. “The road we chose was challenging. We started developing a regional, localised approach, at a time when most organisations just started to introduce global best practices,” he shares. “We saw big gaps between the global approach and local needs, and we worked hard to bridge them.” As this year’s Best Corporate Leadership Programme winner in the

Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Academy HRM Asia Readers’ Choice Awards , leadership is unsurprisingly one of the company’s key pillars. Banerjee says its leadership approach is not only based on theory, but on tested practices, failures, and hard-earned data. “Our clients and partners trust us to deliver the best kind of leadership training and organisational leadership, and we nurture that trust by always delivering the highest quality service,” he says. With two Readers’ Choice wins in 2017, there is more to come for APAC SMA. “We are currently going through a growth phase and are set to continue branching further into niche industries, with some exciting, but still confidential, announcements to come in the next few months,” Banerjee reveals. Despite being crowned as the winner in the Best Asia Leadership – Consultant category, work is the only thing occupying the thoughts of Abhijit Banerjee, Director of Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Academy. “We’re currently in the midst of delivering demanding projects, so the news of us winning two awards (the other being the Best Corporate Leadership Programme) came as a pleasant surprise and morale-refresher to our team,” he said. “Our schedules are so tight that we’re only planning a celebratory drink in October!” Banerjee said his company always matches the client with the right consultant, based on their industry, growth stage, and internal needs. “This sets us apart from other companies; our work is never generic and C O M M E M O R AT I V E G U I D E

always specially crafted for the respective client,” he said. “We have always strived to provide differentiated and personalised services and we’re looking for more value-adds to our clients.” A jubilant Banerjee said the accolade wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his team, clients and trusted partners. “We are lucky to have such an incredible group of people supporting us and believing in our core message which is: excellence without compromise,” he said. “2018 will be a big year for us, and we’re setting a strong base for the planned growth. For us, service excellence will remain at our core and this award gives us more pressure to retain and further refine our quality.”

Our purpose has always been about discovering the new science of human behavior and performance, and embed them into the talent development and engagement landscape across Asia. We are proud to be a brand of Asia, and we thank our clientele for putting their faith in us since day one.

The courage to be different is a signature strength in our work, from our thought process, design, and right up to delivery. This boldness to be unique has given us the power to be ahead of the curve.

We dare to be different by introducing new movement early into the talent space when no one dares to, and this has given us the power of being a key opinion leader, and one such movement is Career Conversation.

Being bold in our thinking has empowered us to foresee different trends and challenge our paradigm to redefine the new era of talent development and engagement, introducing new and practical concepts and solutions.

It is not about retaining talent, but how we can ensure our talent return one day. We introduced the movement in 2011, and we are glad that today, more organizations are working with us to redefine talent engagement, development and attraction.

TrainingGearAsia being an Asian brand, we have a dream to bring our presence across Asia and beyond Asia. We have so much to share with the rest of the world. We are proud to be the recipient for Best Corporate Talent Development Provider and Best Corporate Talent Engagement Provider in the HRM Asia Readers’ Choice Award, recognizing our excellence across Asia. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all our friends and clientele over the years. We will continue to deliver the best and be the pace setter in the space of talent development and engagement across Asia.

Best Corporate Health & Wellness Screening Provider ER WINN

Despite bagging the Readers’ Choice Award for Best Corporate Health & Wellness Screening Provider, Choo Kin Poo, CEO of Asiamedic, played down his organisation’s victory. “Our reaction to winning the category has been a humble one,” said Choo. “We focus on our patients and clients by providing high quality services, and creating a seamless experience.” Indeed, Asiamedic has been quietly going about its business, having celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. As one of Singapore’s oldest health screening and wellness providers in the market, the organisation has been providing the highest-quality integrated services to its patients and clients. A key offering of Asiamedic is its integrated, advanced diagnostic imaging facilities.

Asiamedic

Situated in the same premises as Asiamedic’s clinics, patients and clients can save a tremendous amount of time by undertaking full screening procedures in a single stop, and test results can be assessed promptly through a multi-disciplinary team approach. Asiamedic is also planning to invest further in technology to enhance patients’ and clients’ experiences and deliver greater value. “We aim to be their premier health partner, where we will work with our patients and clients to monitor their health and wellness status and improve their quality of life,” said Choo. “Winning the category has reinforced our belief in being qualitycentric and we will continue to pursue higher excellence in our services.”

Yong Yih Ming, General Manager of Raffles Medical, was a picture of delight after his organisation, Raffles Medical Group, picked up the Best Corporate Healthcare Group gong. “We are honoured with the continued validation by the HR community, and we look forward to better understanding the evolving needs of the companies,” said Yong. “This is a strong encouragement for our doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals, and managers, and it has been a pleasure serving the employees of our corporate clients at our medical centres, clinics and hospital.” With Raffles Medical Group serving as both a medical service and employee benefits provider, the organisation is able to support its corporate clients across the medical benefits, wellness management,

and group insurance and benefits administration value-chain directly. Yong believed another key factor played an instrumental role in its win. “Raffles Medical Group offers a unique value proposition through the use of healthcare data analytics and healthcare provision to partner our corporate clients towards better productivity, employee wellness, and cost management across the region,” he said. Far from resting on its laurels, the group will continue to evolve to better serve the needs of its clients in an integrated manner not just within Singapore, but also across Asia in 13 cities. “We will continue to grow our service touchpoints so that healthcare becomes more accessible and integrated for our patients,” Yong added. With organisations paying close attention to the health and wellness of their workforces, it is important to ensure that users are engaged through lively and fun platforms. Sudhanshu Tewari, CEO of Rewardz – which picked up the Best Corporate Wellness Provider prize at the 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards – said the fun aspect should not be underestimated, whether it’s used individually or for team-building activities. “Our corporate wellness platform has been designed to be extremely userfriendly, it is fun and enjoyable for all its users,” he said. “We heavily employ gamification elements to keep our users excited and therefore see a good engagement rate on the apps. We see a heavy spike in the engagement rate when we organise

digital health challenges like the Steps Challenge, and the entire organisation comes together in achieving the goal.” Tewari also noted that with the app having been created and managed in-house, Rewardz offers comprehensive support and any customisations that companies may require. “We also partner with a solid network of merchants for all our platforms. All these factors put together is what I would say differentiates us from any other corporate wellness provider,” he said. With Rewardz having also claimed Best Corporate Employee Rewards accolade, Tewari said that “the gang is obviously ecstatic about it.” “Each victory is a result of some great teamwork and the awards are a brilliant recognition of it,” he added.
