Blepharoplasty for a Refreshed, Youthful Look

Aging causes the eyelids to get stretched and the supporting muscles to become weak. Fat may build up above and below the eyelids, resulting in sagging eyebrows, and

vision.

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery plays a vital role in facial rejuvenation as it tones

and shapes the eyelids for a more youthful looking appearance by removing excess skin, fat, and lax muscle. Eyelid surgery can resolve: 

Loose or sagging skin that impairs vision

Excess fatty deposits that causes puffiness in the eyelids

Bags under the eyes

Drooping lower eyelids

Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Surgical Procedure Eyelid surgery is performed to treat the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both eyelids. During the consultation, the surgeon will discuss the procedure that needs to be performed to achieve your surgical goals.

Upper Eyelids – The incision is made in the natural crease of the upper lid and it stays hidden from sight. Excess skin and fat are removed through this incision and droopiness is resolved by tightening the muscles to raise the upper lid. The incision is closed with small stitches. Browpexy, which involves repositioning of the eyebrows, may also be done in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of glabellar frown lines. Lower Eyelids – The incision is made on the inner surface of the lid. If there is excess skin in the lower lid, the incision is made just below the lashes. Fat is removed or repositioned through the same incision and excess skin and muscles are removed.

The surgery may also include repositioning of the corner of the eye,

repositioning of the entire lower eyelid, or lateral tarsal strip eyelid repositioning, and addressing the tear trough, including fat tear trough ablation, and lower eyelid fat sliding procedures. The incision is then closed with fine sutures.

Recovery and Results Blepharoplasty takes less than two hours and is usually done in an outpatient setting. Most patients can return to normal functions within five days after the procedure. The initial stage of healing process may include swelling, bruising, irritation and discomfort. Medications are prescribed to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection. Cold compress and ointment may also be prescribed by the surgeon to reduce discomfort.

The results of eyelid surgery are long-lasting. The final results will appear within several weeks - a smooth, better-defined eyelid and surrounding region and a rejuvenated appearance. While many surgical facilities in Houston, Texas offer blepharoplasty, you should choose an AAAASF certified plastic surgery center with a reputable surgeon for optimal results and safe procedures. Established surgeons utilize advanced tools and the latest surgical techniques to perform cosmetic eyelid procedures and would provide you with a personalized treatment plan designed to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
