They offer second chances through educational programs and job training in the Culinary Training Program for formerly homeless and low-income youth and adults. 104 BACKPACKS This year, for our Back to School classes that we hosted at four locations (Lynnwood, Everett, Stanwood, and Monroe), College of Hope gave away a total of 104 backpacks full of school supplies to 52 families in need!

CELEBRATED 20 YEARS College of Hope celebrated their 20th Anniversary with an Open House. We had colleagues, partners, and clients in attendance. We raffled off four gift baskets and a free staff training for one of our community partners.

HOLIDAY COOKING Our Holiday Cooking class taught the day before Thanksgiving was a huge success! We received donations of whole Turkeys that were prepped in class by the participants, and then . them as a nice sent home with holiday surprise for their families.

EVENTS

AN EVENING AT EMORY’S Raised $38K for Tomorrow’s Hope! This sold out event hosted over 100 supporters and raised over $38,000 for Tomorrow’s Hope Child Development Center at Housing Hope. The focus of this year’s event was to raise money for the transformation of Tomorrow’s Hope into a state-licensed Therapeutic Childcare Center. The funds raised will enable the center to provide enhanced early intervention services to children so they can recover from trauma, reach on-target development, and enter Kindergarten on par with their higher socio-economic peers. The event would not be possible without the support of Emory and Molly Cole, owners of Emory’s on Silverlake, closed their doors six times in recent years for this private event.

"We have admired the work Housing Hope has done for many years in Snohomish County to give people, especially children, a safe environment to grow. " -Emory and Molly Cole, Proprietors

FILL THE SKY WITH HOPE Jump for Joy! Fill the Sky with Hope raised almost $5K! This is the third year that Skydive Snohomish partnered with Housing Hope for “Fill the Sky with Hope”, a one-day event that provides Housing Hope participants an opportunity to celebrate some of the great accomplishments they have made along their journey. Skydive Snohomish donated not only a portion of all jumps from the day

Thank you Skydive Snohomish for being our tandem partners in our mission to end homelessness!

but also donated jumps for Housing Hope residents who have transitioned or are transitioning out of homelessness. This jump signifies the huge leap that Housing Hope’s participants take when changing their lives for the better. A highlight of this year’s event was when CEO, Fred Safstrom jumped for his first time.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE SECURE ACT?

DONORS

PREMIER CORPORATE PARTNERS | 2019

Did you know that Congress recently signed the SECURE Act into law? This Act will possibly have big impacts on your estate plans and heirs, particularly if you have a traditional IRA that you intend to pass on to them. One of this legislation’s biggest changes is the elimination of the so-called “Stretch IRA”. Under this new law, most heirs (excluding spouses and other exceptions) must withdraw all funds within 10 years of receiving an inherited IRA. That could have significant income tax implications for them. Be sure to consult with your financial advisor on how the SECURE Act might affect your current retirement accounts and estate plans. Also ask if planning tools, such as Charitable Remainder Trust, could allow you to actually pass more of your assets to your heirs and support your favorite nonprofits at the same time.

Dwellings Message Fred Safstrom, CEO It is so easy to focus on disappointments and problems. They are everywhere around us. The City Council that votes to eliminate a tool for creating supportive housing, the unsuccessful State Housing Trust Fund application for Twin Lakes Landing II, the resident who relapses into their addiction, the political divide in our nation that seems to overshadow every event. Yes, it is easy to succumb to the negatives. But at Housing Hope and HopeWorks, we are dedicated to the positives. Seeing amazing community support and testimony at City Council meetings, hearing from funders that seek to replace funding not realized from the State, residents that have overcome their addictions and are now clean and sober, and thoughtful voices that bravely speak truth to power. It’s in our name and core to who we are. Hope. A focus on progress and success brings encouragement and hope. The ribbon cutting at HopeWorks Station was simply

incredible. There were 500 peoples who packed our meeting room to join in this celebration. It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many of our friends and colleagues for this important milestone. And then for Kindred Kitchen and its training program to open to rave reviews and our 65 apartment units to come alive with residents. It is all a reward and reminder of why we do this work. We are currently engaged with a neighborhood design advisory committee for our planned Sequoia supportive housing project. We have a dozen neighborhood residents, some supporters and others skeptics, who will assist us in the design of a project that fits well into the Port Gardner neighborhood. And our explorations in South County continue to uncover opportunities and new supporters for our work. All of this brings hope and encouragement. Your support consistently brings us inspiration and encouragement. We appreciate you so much.
