Entering Hoot’s second decade of publication, I want-
ed us to focus on range. Under past Editors-In-Chief, Hoot has grown as an organization, collaborating with up-andcoming brands and prioritizing diversity and inclusion. In my new role I wanted to uphold Anisa and Carolina’s legacies, continue to publish boundary-defying, innovative content, and serve as a creative platform for the Columbia & Barnard community. Experimenting with layout, shoot concepts, and rebranding were top priorities for me, not only because I wanted us to develop as an organization, but because as a lover of fonts and niche layout, I found them exciting. The work that the Hoot team has put out thus far has exceeded my wildest expectations and I look forward to continuing this trend as we bring on team members, take on new collaborations, and expand digitally through 2020.
On a personal note, I’ve learned a number of lessons
in the past few months, but the resounding theme has been to always go with your gut. Your intuition is often 10 steps ahead of you, and learning to let it guide from time to time has gone a long way for me.
