3 Honest Little Pigs Our family’s pride in Honest Abe Log Homes and the homes that we have been able to build for people has always been a key part of my life – so much so that growing up I really never knew the actual version of Three Little Pigs story. I only knew the version my dad told me where the pigs built log homes! That inspired me – along with my husband, Nick – to write this version and share with you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as Nick and I enjoyed writing it!

April Smith Patterson

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs, Three brothers they were, and oh, so big. As they got older and all were grown, They wanted nice houses of their own.

The house had to be both strong and pretty, To withstand the wolf who was cruel and witty.

If the wolf had one thing for which he was known, It was huffing and puffing and destroying pigs’ homes.

The first brother built his house of sticks, Saying, “I’ll withstand the old wolf’s tricks.” Not long after, the wolf came around, And with one puff, the sticks came down!

The second brother built his house of tin, Telling himself it would withstand wind. The big bad wolf came around again, Huffing and puffing and blew that house in.

The third pig watched the fate of his brothers, And knew a log house was strong like no other. Log by log his house went up. Strong pine logs withstand so much.

His brothers came ‘round looking for shelter, Knowing log walls would not falter. They feared the day the wolf would come, With plans to destroy this final home.

One sunny day the wolf did arrive, The beautiful home had caught his eye. Peering in windows he saw three little pigs, Laughing, singing and dancing a jig.

The wolf thought to himself, “Well I’ll fix them, With a huff and a puff, I’ll blow this house in.” He first let go with one big puff, But the house stood firm, it was not enough.

The wolf stepped back and tried once again, But nothing was going to blow this house in. After hours of trying the wolf gave up, Seems all of this wind was just not enough.

Tired and defeated, he rapped on the door, Admitting in silence, “I’ve got to know more.” A strong log home, the wolf had not seen, Falling in love, it became his new dream. Turns out the old wolf was tired of his cave, So the best home for him was an Honest Abe.

The little pigs sent him to Moss, Tennessee, Saying, “That’s where Honest Abe folks will be.” They shook hands and went on their own way, Living happily in an Honest Abe Log home every day.
