What Is The Difference Between LED, OLED And AMOLED TV?

Gone are the days when there used to be just one TV in the entire neighbourhood which was the only source of entertainment for all the people of the colony. Everyone used to stay glued to that one screen, especially during the cricket season. Now, fast forwarding to the present, every home has at least one TV with advanced features. Over these years we’ve seen a significant shift from one generation of televisions to the other that has also changed our viewing experience with better displays. We often hear about these displays when someone tells us that they’ve bought a new LED TV, 4k ultra HD TV, or a Smart Led TV but we never understand what differentiates them from each other. So, we are here to help you out by throwing some light on their features. Read on, as we discuss the differences between these three categories- LED TV, OLED TV, and AMOLED TV.

LED TVs are currently the most common and popular ones. Anyone who upgrades from an LCD TV model switches to an LED model. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and this lighting is an innovation that emits the kind of light that allows for more powerful backlighting in these TVs to display brighter and better contrast in the display pictures. The light is created by the LED edge or a backlit panel. The pixel cells in an LED display are individual glass crystals that rotate at high refresh rates to allow the coloured light to flow through them in order to produce a powerfully coloured picture image. The only model better than an LED TV is a 4K ultra HD TV. A 4k resolution TV doubles the number of pixels and vertical scanning lines across that of a standard HD TV. Taking the pixels from 1080p to 2160p – 4K resolution actually gives a better and clearer picture display.

However, these TVs don’t match up to the visual quality of OLED TVs. This is because OLED, that stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode, uses a technology that consists of an organic compound that creates light when put to charge. Hence, each pixel in an OLED TV transmits its own light when current is passed through it. This is the reason why these TVs produce such outstanding color and black levels. In fact, the OLED TVs consume much less power as compared to the traditional LED TVs while illustrating dark colours. Their refresh rates are much faster, which makes them great for gaming and watching movies and TV shows. If your OLED TV is packed with 4K resolution, that is, it is a 4k ultra HD TV, then you are sure to enjoy every minute of your television experience.

AMOLED TVs, or Active Matrix Light Emitting Diode TVs are a type of OLED TVs. These displays use technology that consists of exactly the same colour creation setting as OLEDs. The Active Matrix system has a TFT, or a Thin Film Transmitter that charges and controls the flow of current in individual pixels. The only difference is that in AMOLED TVs, the TFT matrix panels perform dual functions. They store power to maintain the pixel states with the help of a storage capacitor and charge them at the same time. This is because they contain two TFTs instead of just one and both of them perform each function. An AMOLED TV has an even faster refresh rate than an OLED TV. This is why an AMOLED display saves more energy, provides clearer display and renders faster motion response.

These were all the differences amongst these three categories. If you are planning to upgrade to a better TV, then you can switch to a smart LED TV that has built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports. These make a smart LED TV capable of seamlessly connecting to various portable devices. In fact, smart TVs are available in all categories, like LED, OLED and AMOLED too! These smart TVs make all the content over internet available to you with a simple Wi-Fi connection. What’s even better is a smart TV with 4K resolution! It promises to treat you with all your favourite shows, Live apps and takes the picture quality to the next level! You can find your best bet at Panasonic from their wide range of televisions and enhance your viewing experience.
