RELATIONSHIP GUIDANCE

Spotlight:LA Matchmakers By: Niki Shadrow

An insider’s peek into the art of finding love in the big city... Q.

Q. Why did you become

Why did you become a matchmaker?:

a matchmaker? Did you do any interesting jobs before you became a matchmaker?

A.

It was a total fluke. I had recently returned to Los Angeles after having lived in Chicago for 5 years. I was an actress~waitress for twenty years and had vowed not to be a 40 year old waitress. A friend took over the management position at a video dating service and offered me a job. I accepted and really loved helping people connect with their soul mates. I ended up making a career out of it and writing two dating advice books. My life took a wonderful and exciting twist that I never could have predicted.

Q. Is it hard to fix up people in Los Angeles? A. It can be very challenging in this town because the

expectations are so high. The men want younger, drop dead gorgeous women and the women are extremely concerned with the man’s income, car and status.

Q. Is it hard to be single in LA? A. I think it can be very hard. The city is so gigantic,

people are in their cars and disconnected, and the culture is obsessed with youth, money and perfection. It is important to stay grounded, true to yourself and surround yourself with good friends. If you are religious or spirital, attending a spirital center or church can make a huge difference in your energy and self esteem to hear positive messages on a regular basis.

Q. What is your favorite success story? A. I matched a wonderful couple a few years ago who

invited my husband and I to their wedding. They had a rose for me waiting on my chair at the cermony, a gift at my place setting at dinner and they gave a champagne toast to me at the reception, it was so touching and beautiful. The tears were flowing. www.cupidforhire.com

Before I became a matchmaker, I worked as a broker for people looking to sell their high end antiques and collectibles. I went into matchmaking because wanted a job where I could interact with people on a daily basis. I am a very outgoing person and thrive on social interaction.
