ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance is mandatory for all clinical year call back days. Clinical year students are required to follow the schedule set by their preceptor. Students should arrive at the facility before their scheduled shift and remain on the site until excused. Students are expected to take call as designated by the preceptor. Students are expected to work weekends, holidays and overnight. University holidays do not pertain to the clinical year. Snow days do not pertain to the clinical year. Students may not take vacations apart from those designated by the clinical year schedule. ABSENCE FROM CLINICAL ROTATIONS: If a student is unable to report to the clinical site for any reason, he/she is required to 1. Call and e-mail the clinical preceptor. 2. Call and e-mail the clinical coordinator at (516) 463-4233 by 9 AM that day. It is unacceptable to leave a message with the program administrative assistant. It is unacceptable for a student to call on behalf of another student. Any absence, for any reason, must be made up at the site. There are no personal days. Failure to report an absence and obtain approval from the clinical coordinator will result in an unexcused absence. More than one unexcused absence will result in a hearing before the Academic Standing Committee. TARDINESS: Students are expected to arrive at the clinical site on time. If delayed, the clinical coordinator and site preceptor must be informed by phone. For in-patient rotations, it is especially important to arrive early each day to visit patients and to prepare for rounds. Should a student be physically present on a site but away from the team, he/she will be considered absent. It is not acceptable to go to the library to study or to be away from the team without the preceptor’s knowledge and permission. Students are required to follow the schedule set by their preceptor.
