HM Treasury is the government’s economic and finance ministry. We employ a team of around 1,000, predominantly in policy roles. You will find the majority of us in modern headquarters overlooking St James’s Park - right in the heart of Westminster. The Treasury has a vast remit and truly far-reaching influence. We are tasked with maintaining control over public spending, deciding how money is raised from taxpayers, setting the direction of the UK’s economic policy and working to achieve strong and sustainable economic growth. This gives us a say in every part of every policy, across every government department.

“My work has often been in the headlines, whether I’ve been closing down tax loopholes, writing briefings for Prime Minister’s Questions or submitting advice to Ministers on naming and shaming tax avoiders. Last year, I was responsible for coordinating all of the tax avoidance measures at the Budget which, collectively, will raise almost £4.6 billion. My favourite part was watching the evening news and seeing a Minister recount the lines that I had given him – this gave me a great deal of personal satisfaction.” Tanya Kempe-Tummon, Policy Adviser, Corporate Tax Team
