“MACON, THEN AND NOW” EXHIBITION SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED MACON, Ga. — The “Macon, Then and Now” photography exhibition features archival photographs of historic Macon properties beside present-day pictures from the same angles taken by the Middle Georgia Camera Club. Maryel Battin, a preservationist and member of Historic Macon Foundation, conceived the exhibition and partnered with Historic Macon on the project. The exhibition opened at the Sidney Lanier Cottage in March and has been on view there since. Historic Macon has arranged for the collection to travel to various locations in the coming months. The side-by-side view of old and new photos illustrates the changes that have occurred to the historic properties and sites. While some of the images show what historic buildings have been lost, many others depict dramatic changes to the style of the homes, showing how adaptable historic preservation can be. “Macon, Then and Now” Exhibition Schedule May 10–June 30: City Hall, 700 Poplar St. July: Washington Memorial Library, 1180 Washington Ave. August: Mercer University, Tarver Library, 1300 Edgewood Ave. September: TBA October: Middle Georgia State College November: TBA “Macon, Then and Now” is funded by the Knight Neighborhood Challenge, a project of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, with special assistance from the Middle Georgia Camera Club and the Washington Memorial Library.
