No debe tomar DIOVAN y amamantar.

DIOVAN (DYE’-o-van) (valsartan) Tablets Read the Patient Information that comes with DIOVAN before you take it and each time you get a refill. There may be new information. This leaflet does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or treatment. If you have any questions about DIOVAN, ask your doctor or pharmacist. What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN? DIOVAN can cause harm or death to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your blood pressure if you plan to become pregnant. If you get pregnant while taking DIOVAN, tell your doctor right away. What is DIOVAN? DIOVAN is a prescription medicine called an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used in adults to: • lower high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, 6 to 16 years of age. • treat heart failure in adults. In these patients, DIOVAN may lower the need for hospitalization that happens from heart failure. • improve the chance of living longer after a heart attack (myocardial infarction) in adults. DIOVAN is not for children under 6 years of age or children with certain kidney problems. High Blood Pressure (Hypertension). Blood pressure is the force in your blood vessels when your heart beats and when your heart rests. You have high blood pressure when the force is too much. DIOVAN can help your blood vessels relax so your blood pressure is lower. Medicines that lower your blood pressure lower your chance of having a stroke or heart attack. High blood pressure makes the heart work harder to pump blood throughout the body and causes damage to the blood vessels. If high blood pressure is not treated, it can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and vision problems. Heart Failure occurs when the heart is weak and cannot pump enough blood to your lungs and the rest of your body. Just walking or moving can make you short of breath, so you may have to rest a lot. Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction): A heart attack is caused by a blocked artery that results in damage to the heart muscle. What should I tell my doctor before taking DIOVAN? Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including whether you: • have any allergies. See the end of this leaflet for a complete list of ingredients in DIOVAN. • have a heart condition • have liver problems • have kidney problems • are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. See “What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN?” • are breast-feeding. It is not known if DIOVAN passes into your breast milk. You and your doctor should decide if you will take DIOVAN or breast-feed, but not both. Talk with your doctor about the best way to feed your baby if you take DIOVAN. • have ever had a reaction called angioedema, to another blood pressure medicine. Angioedema causes swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat, and may cause difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements. Especially tell your doctor if you take: • other medicines for high blood pressure or a heart problem • water pills (also called “diuretics”) • potassium supplements. Your doctor may check the amount of potassium in your blood periodically • a salt substitute. Your doctor may check the amount of potassium in your blood periodically • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (like ibuprofen or naproxen) • certain antibiotics (rifamycin group), a drug used to protect against transplant rejection (cyclosporin) or an antiretroviral drug used to treat HIV/AIDS infection (ritonavir). These drugs may increase the effect of valsartan. Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of your medicines with you to show to your doctor and pharmacist when a new medicine is prescribed. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking any new medicine. Your doctor or pharmacist will know what medicines are safe to take together. How should I take DIOVAN? • Take DIOVAN exactly as prescribed by your doctor. • For treatment of high blood pressure, take DIOVAN one time each day, at the same time each day. • If your child cannot swallow tablets, or if tablets are not available in the prescribed strength, your pharmacist will mix DIOVAN as a liquid suspension for your child. If your child switches between taking the tablet and the suspension, your doctor will adjust the dose as needed. Shake the bottle of suspension well for at least 10 seconds before pouring the dose of medicine to give to your child.

DECEMBER 28, 2012 - JANUARY 3, 2013

• For adult patients with heart failure or who have had a heart attack, take DIOVAN two times each day, at the same time each day. Your doctor may start you on a low dose of DIOVAN and may increase the dose during your treatment. • DIOVAN can be taken with or without food. • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, do not take the missed dose. Take the next dose at your regular time. • If you take too much DIOVAN, call your doctor or Poison Control Center, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. What are the possible side effects of DIOVAN? DIOVAN may cause the following serious side effects: Injury or death to an unborn baby. See “What is the most important information I should know about DIOVAN?” Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension). Low blood pressure is most likely to happen if you also take water pills, are on a low-salt diet, get dialysis treatments, have heart problems, or get sick with vomiting or diarrhea. Lie down, if you feel faint or dizzy. Call your doctor right away. Kidney problems. Kidney problems may get worse if you already have kidney disease. Some patients will have changes on blood tests for kidney function and may need a lower dose of DIOVAN. Call your doctor if you get swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands, or unexplained weight gain. If you have heart failure, your doctor should check your kidney function before prescribing DIOVAN. The most common side effects of DIOVAN used to treat people with high blood pressure include: • headache • tiredness • dizziness • stomach (abdominal) pain • flu symptoms Side effects were generally mild and brief. They generally have not caused patients to stop taking DIOVAN. The most common side effects of DIOVAN used to treat people with heart failure include: • dizziness • joint and back pain • low blood pressure • tiredness • diarrhea • high blood potassium Common side effects of DIOVAN used to treat people after a heart attack which caused them to stop taking the drug include: • low blood pressure • cough • high blood creatinine (decreased kidney function) • rash Tell your doctor if you get any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. These are not all the possible side effects of DIOVAN. For a complete list, ask your doctor or pharmacist. How do I store DIOVAN? • Store DIOVAN tablets at room temperature between 59° to 86°F (15°C - 30°C). • Keep DIOVAN tablets in a closed container in a dry place. • Store bottles of DIOVAN suspension at room temperature less than 86°F (30°C) for up to 30 days, or refrigerate between 35°F - 46°F (2°C - 8°C) for up to 75 days. • Keep DIOVAN and all medicines out of the reach of children. General information about DIOVAN Medicines are sometimes prescribed for conditions that are not mentioned in patient information leaflets. Do not use DIOVAN for a condition for which it was not prescribed. Do not give DIOVAN to other people, even if they have the same symptoms you have. It may harm them. This leaflet summarizes the most important information about DIOVAN. If you would like more information, talk with your doctor. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist for information about DIOVAN that is written for health professionals. For more information about DIOVAN, ask your pharmacist or doctor, visit www.DIOVAN.com on the Internet, or call 1-866-404-6361. What are the ingredients in DIOVAN? La Quebrada Cliff Divers, Acapulco, Mexico

Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR

The La Quebrada Cliff Divers are based in Acapulco, Mexico. They perform daily for the public diving into the Pacific Ocean. If you can visualize this feat, then you can visualize the Financial Cliff which society is going to experience if the U.S. Congress cannot achieve some sort of agreement on taxes which all will have to pay after January 1, 2013. ‘La quebrada Cliff Divers are professionals who know how to gauge the wind currents, wave actions, and the many pertinent factors which permit a safe 115 foot free fall dive into the ocean. The Cliff Divers are successful because everything is considered carefully. Like anything in this world, humans succeed by following the natural laws of nature. The U.S. Congress needs to heed the practices of ‘La Quebrada Cliff Divers’, since the Congress is supposed to be dedicated public servants. Since 1975, the middle class income has remained at the same level. During this period, the very wealthy have experienced the benefits of legislation which has reduced their income taxes to a level below that of an average middle class taxpayer. Also, management’s salaries have increased some 800% even while making very poor production and marketing decisions. The application of the ‘trickle down’ theory has permitted very few to own wealth equal to that of 158 million Americans, beginning with those who have little or no

wealth. Republican naysayors have crippled legislative process by agreeing to never raise taxes. Their focus today is on accumulating money rather than letting the lower income folk have a bit more, which will be spent for essentials almost immediately. This consumer economy requires the middle class labor be paid, not just a ‘living wage’, but a wage which provides ‘discretionary income’. It is discretionary buying which reflects the many choices a consumer exhibits when purchasing anything as a ‘nice to have’ choice. Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s, middle class Americans had those options. Today, too many cannot even pay for the essentials of living: food, water, clothing, a warm safe shelter, security, medical care, education, etc. To learn more Google “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”. With some 13 million unemployed, and 10 million underemployed, the Obama Administration has been obliged to assist these with unemployment assistance, food stamps, and medical care. Certain very conservative Republicans accuse President Obama of taking America down the road towards socialism. It is these who would balance the budget, pay down the national deficit, eliminate mortgage interest deductions, …..simply stated: reduce ‘safety net entitlements’ without also looking at the closure of loopholes which permit many businesses to totally avoid paying taxes. Those conservatives need to understand that it is the American taxpayer who supported those bailouts of the auto industry and major banks, which made very poor decisions while peddling faulty derivatives. Those ‘human welfare entitlements’ are the American society’s social safety net which assists those who

¡Feliz 2013!

have little and need public assistance. The American voter has spoken quite directly: They support President Obama’s plan which has stabilized the economy. It is now time for the very wealthy to stop interfering with the legislative process via their well placed lobbyists. Special interests have taken America down the wrong economic “trickle down’ road. American capitalism will survive and thrive when it learns find ways to distribute the money which the disadvantaged low or no income folks need to purchase the essentials of living. Those low income folks have 100% propensity to spend whatever is provided as ‘public assistance’ and unemployment benefits. For example, the recent increase from $8 per hour to $10 per hour minimum wage by San Jose City will be spent immediately on essentials. Do the arithmetic: $8 per hour means an income of $16,640 gross annually; $10 per hour equates to $20,800 gross annually. In Silicon Valley, economists estimate that an income of $80,000 is required for a family of four. No wonder low income folks take on several jobs to ‘make ends meet’. President Obama’s proposal is to have the U.S. Congress pass legislation which ensures that 100% of American taxpayers pay the same income tax rate on earned income up to $250,000 as of January 1, 2013. What the ‘very wealthy’ pay will be determined later during 2013. When all support this nation by paying a fair share of taxes, then its economy will flourish again. A La Quebrada cliff failure must not occur.

A year in review: top searches of 2012

(BPT) This year marked a time of change, innovation, trials and hope. But what was the most memorable moment of 2012? A great place to look is online searches, as they mark the people, places and events that mattered most in a given year. According to Bing, everything from Hurricane Sandy, Kim Kardashian, the Olympics and Honey Boo Boo are among the top Internet searches that mark this year’s most important people, places and moments in time. With the new year quickly approaching, it’s time to take a look back at 2012, and reflect on what captured America’s attention.

Most-searched people * The top Bing searches for 2012 prove no one can keep up with the Kardashians. For the second time in three years, Kim K. earned the top spot as the most-searchedfor person. But Kim wasn’t the only Kardashian to keep up with. This year Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian rounded out the top three most-searched reality stars. * Girls ruled the world or at least the top 10 - with Justin Bieber being the only male to break through as the second most-searched-for person. He also retained his title as the most-searched musician of the year, with on-again, off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez earning the fourth spot. * Honey Boo Boo’s special juice did more than help her

win a few toddler beauty pageants. Seven-year-old Alana, better known as Honey Boo Boo, captured the hearts and minds of America, showing up as the sixth most-searched reality TV star and seventh most-searched TV show. * NFL veteran Peyton Manning had his most successful season yet as the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, topping the list as the most-searched athlete in 2012. * The battle for living rooms across America continues, and this year The Ellen Degeneres Show dominated daytime talk, while Good Morning America stole the top spot for morning talk show.

Most-searched news stories and celebrity events * Speculation and release of the iPhone 5 earned the top spot as the most-searchedfor news story of 2012. But that wasn’t the only technology to capture people’s attention as the new Kindle HD, Facebook IPO and Marissa Mayers’ move from Google to Yahoo also drove a large amount of searches. * This year, Americans exercised their civic right to vote ... and to search. The U.S. Elections was the second most-searched event of the year. From Big Bird to binders, people were riveted by the constant ups and downs of the campaign trail. * The fanfare surrounding the London Olympics made it the third most-searched event. Olympic newcomer McKayla Maroney was among the top-searched Olympic athletes, along with

gold medal veterans Michael Phelps and Serena Williams. * A star has been born. The birth of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first child, Blue Ivy Carter, was the celebrity event of the year while Chris Brown and Rihanna were the most searched celeb couple. -

More notable number ones * With Reality TV now one of the most popular genres on the small screen, it is no surprise that American Idol was the most-searched show for the second straight year, while Dancing with the Stars shimmied its way into the No. 2 spot.* Facebook continued to dominate the world of social media, coming in at No. 1 as the most-searched-for social medium. Meanwhile, Twitter’s 140-character movement continued to grow, becoming the second mostsearched social media site. * With his crazy outfits, and even crazier dance moves, Psy’s international hit “Gangnam Style” came in as the most-searched song of the year, while Carley Rae Jepsen was second for her catchy tune, “Call Me Maybe.” * Action packed and chock full of everyone’s favorite heroes, The Avengers wasn’t just a summer blockbuster; it was the most searched for movie of 2012. These top Bing searches in 2012 provide a quick walk down memory lane. For more of this year’s online search trends, visit bingtrends.com.

Parental Guidance

Now in theaters Old school grandfather Artie (Billy Crystal), who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane (Bette Midler) agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents (Marisa Tomei, Tom Everett Scott) go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend – and not holding your ground – that binds a family together.

Promised Land

How to be an Undergarment Gangster! Sabrina Gonzalez EL OBSERVADOR Like most things in life, a strong foundation is required before layering or building upon, so why should your undergarments be any different? When I say undergarments, I am referring to shapers, bras, panties, and anything worn beneath your clothes that would be considered “underwear.” Often times, undergarments aren’t given much thought, simply because they aren’t visible. The truth is that undergarments are not meant to be seen, yet they’re essential to the way we look and feel in our clothes. Get ready, because I’m about to take you on a trip to the “underworld” of the Underwear Mafia!!! Yes… That’s right!! There is an organized, chain of command… and you don’t want to go committing fashion crimes, because it’s your style that will take the BIG HIT!! So Bada Bing Bada Boom, let me break it down! Shapewear wins the title of the BOSS ,because it can pretty much make or break whatever it is that you’re wearing if you don’t follow the rules. The brazier secures the role of the UNDERBOSS (no pun intended) because if you don’t partake in shapewear, then it’s all about the “right” bra. Third in pecking order are the panties, they work as the SKIPPERS of the bunch because they only make appearances when the bosses say so and they handle all the dirty work (heehee!). All the other undergarments are the soldiers. That’s because they work for the bosses and are still trying to prove their worth in the underwear mafia! In order for the Boss to be effective, it must fit properly and be specifically designed to target the area(s) in which you want a quick fix. Shapewear is made in such a variety of styles that it can temporarily curve, enhance, flatten, and slim most problem areas without undergoing any “nip tuck” procedures. Each shaper is made

for a specific purpose, but the overall goal is to give the illusion of a fluid and seamless figure, so that you can rock your outerwear with the utmost confidence. Here are some tips on how to be the boss of bosses and make sure that shapewear doesn’t “Whack” you out!! »Identify the problem area you wish to alter (body, bust, hips, waist, etc…) »The waist should stay in place. Sit down, stand up, bend over, and move it all around. If the waist moves, try a different size. »No binding! Shapewear should not dig into your skin. If it does, consider another type or style of shaper. Take care of “down there” by doing a crotch check. Make sure the crotch area of the shaper is positioned in the right place to avoid discomfort. If you need to adjust the crotch, use the “pull-up” technique to adjust the sides. Know your control…Get the level of support that is right for what you need. Control levels vary from light to very firm. Visible bulk or wrinkles on shapewear is a BIG NO NO!! It’s also a good indicator that the size, length, or both are too big. BUT, bulging up or spilling out of the shapewear is a sign that a larger or taller shaper is needed. »Legit and functional shapewear does not roll. If it rolls, it’s time for a replacement. No exceptions! »A sleek and smooth look is the ultimate goal for shapewear and implies the “perfect fit.” »Make sure the hue of your shapewear is in accordance with your outerwear, so your shapewear stays your secret. Now onto the Underboss… it “carries” a lot of responsibility – afterall, it

will be boosting up your two favorite Goombas! And you definitely want everyone to Say Hello to your little friends! The “right” bra must fit all your needs and demands - support, price, comfort, and style. It should also make you feel secure and sexy. Wearing the correct bra isn’t only fashionable. It is the right thing to do for your posture and the health of your breast tissue. In order to help maintain good posture, go for a bra that offers the best support and won’t pull your shoulders forward. Bras that do not offer enough support can displace breast tissue and disfigure the overall look and shape of breasts. You should probably also get rid of (and stay away from) any underwire bras that poke or rub against the skin. Remember, lack of support or stretched out boob tissue = saggy, droopy, boobies!! Do not be afraid to lift the tit!! Here are a couple tips for finding the “right” underboss. »If you’re wearing shapewear, make sure you wear a bra that is compatible. The bra should be able to contain any extra bulge or bulk being pushed up or out. »Fact: The elasticity in bras stretches out. Solution: When trying on bras, make sure the bra fits perfectly (firm and snug) and comfortably at the first hookand-eye so you can tighten the bra band as it stretches and continue to get full support. »The core of the bra support should come from the bra band and not the shoulder straps. Typically the bra band should align horizontally below the shoulder blades. No Riding Up!! »Know or learn your bra size. More importantly, have a good understanding of the “bra formula,” because most bras stamped with a “size” will not fit. Boobies are as unique as each of us, so naturally one style or size isn’t going to fit the same on everyone.

»No matter what you are wearing over, always choose a bra that can support and contain “all” of you without creating bulges or spill-overs. Make sure the hue of your bra is in accordance with your outerwear so that the bra is not visible through clothing and to prevent showing the bra straps. »Sports bras are meant for athletic activity only and that is the only time they should be worn. Last in the ranks are the soldiers of the bunch… panties, nylons, thigh highs, etc. The reason these undergarments rank low is because of shapewear. If you wear it then you probably don’t have a need for soldiers. But if you’re an old school O.G. (Original Gangsta) girl or you just like to use the soldiers then here’s my tid-bit… »In accordance with the higher ups, choose soldiers that fit right and are appropriate for what you’re wearing. If you are wearing shapewear, again, remember to wear panties and nylons compatible with it. Coordinate hues with outerwear to keep your soldier’s business “undercover”. Ya know what I’m saying. »Consider fabric, style, cut, embellishments, and breathability when it comes to panties and the control top portions of nylons. »No lines, no seams, ever. When I started writing this article, I thought I’d go all Vito Corleone on ya’ll -and be the “God-Mother” of undergarments – showing you how to Respect the Rules of the Underwear Mafia in a single post. Boy, was I wrong! There is just too much information to fit. I plan to follow up with a part 2 and 3, specifically for shapewear and braziers, in the next few weeks. With that being said, it’s your turn to tell me what makes you an Undergarment Gangster? Spill the secrets of your skivvies, and help other sista’s into shape!
